[Q] Need Help With Updating hboot for JB - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ok first off I would like to start off by thanking everyone in advance. I am a little weird at explaining over text but ill try. I have a old AT&T HTC One X that I was wanting to install a jellybean custom rom on. I guess in order to do that i have to update the Hboot to 1.36 (Hboot currently 1.14). Now correct me if i'm wrong but I did a little research and noticed I had to unlock the bootloader prior to updating the Hboot, so I watched a video by a guy known as "onexroot" (link below) and followed his steps. But when I looked at my CID it was 11111111 so I didn't really know which option to pick. So I stopped and did a little more research on this and had no success. I continued and picked list . After going through the next few steps I get an error "FAILED(12 signature verification fail)" I went online and researched this and it seemed that that error only came up on nexus one devices? I am completely stuck and seem to run into a error every time I try to mess with this phone. I would be very thankful if someone on this forum could shed some light in the direction i need to go with this phone. I have attached a ZIP file with the pictures and a text document containing the link to the youtube video and my email address. I put them into a ZIP because the pictures were to big and i'm unable to post links because I am a new user.
Thanks,
Tyler

I think you're a bit confused here, and it's probably due to going to onexroot.com for information. XDA is the only place you should go to for info regarding modifying your device. That other site doesn't properly distinguish between the HTC One X (Endeavoru) and the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita), they're completely different phones and the firmware isn't compatible. You have the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita), but the tool you've been using is for the HTC One X (Endeavoru), it's a good thing it keeps failing otherwise you'd have an expensive paperweight on your hands.
Anyway, stay within XDA, and more importantly, stay within the correct device subforum. This is our device main page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
Don't ever venture out of this section or you'll end up in trouble.
So, what you need to do is go to htcdev.com and unlock your bootloader. Once you've done that you can flash TWRP recovery to your device. Once you've done that you can flash SuperSU to get root. Once you've done that you can get s-off via the Facepalm s-off method. And once you've done that you can upgrade your firmware (not just your hboot) in order to run the latest Jellybean ROMs. I have a guide thread in my signature which will explain most of the above stuff, but feel free to ask any questions if you need further help.

Help! Bought already rooted phone, it's having issues, I want to start over.

Like the titles says, I bought a rooted phone from someone and it's messing up so now I'd like to take it back to factory settings 100% with the latest update, and unrooted as well. I'm currently frustrated to be honest...I've been trying to do this for the last 6 hours and it's not working out.
Recently my number has not been showing up when I call people it just shows as withheld/unknown, and also when people call me it always shows their numbers as unknown even if they are saved in my phone already. I was told at T-Mobile these problems are just part of the version software I'm running on my phone and I should update it.
I've tried doing the latest update through the phone and it will restart then be stuck on the screen with the little green guy sitting under a triangle with a orange exclamation mark inside of it. I took it to T-Mobile and they tried to install the latest software and eventually (after many times trying to update it) said I just need to go home and find the latest software update and install it via my computer to bring it back to 100% normal as they cannot do it without it being hooked up to my computer.
Where can I even download the latest firmware/whatever it's called and how would I do the updating with the phone connected to my computer? Is there a guide I can be linked to to explain updating rooting/unlocking/etc all in one thread?
If there are any specific threads that already have this information please link me, I haven't found anything that helps me thus far! Thanks ahead of time for your help with this everyone!

Thanks for the link and attempting to help me but I've just gone to start that process and I already have a problem with it. My HBOOT version is not listed on the websites supported HBOOT versions.
I have 1.17.1111 and it's not on the list of HBOOT versions, there is only a 1.17.0011. So what should I do now?
I need to unroot and uninstall anything that would effect this process firstly (I'm not sure how to do that either). I want to do a total wipe of everything and uninstall all modifications to phone as well, then I want to re-do the best ones. So I will need to be linked to a guide to do these as, obviously, I'm one of those stupid needy nubs roaming the forums. Also, how would I go about finding and downloading the latest t-mobile update (Android 2.3.4 / software version 1.50.531.1) for this phone? The guys at the store said there was a new one that just came out and that I'd need to download it and install it via computer.
Hello
The first thing you are gonna do is write supercid follow this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 - step 4
This is so you can flash any RUU, you want and not to brick your device.
After that find the a RUU that matches your phone company : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
After that run it on your phone. When you have done that, you should be non-rotted, stock recovery(means that you can install updates from HTC), but you are still S-off. Now this is a very tricky a dangerous thing to do.
I have done it before, and I did it exactly as I am telling you to do. Now click on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And go to step 5, and do as exactly it says, when done, you should be s-ON and now your phone should be as It was new
That is what I did and nothing went wrong, but don't blame me if something goes wrong
Nvm, I think I might have it now.

Okay, I can do the above if you could tell me where I can get TMOUS_1.45.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208218_signed.exe downloaded, or even the newest 1.50.531.1
I followed the links on there until it sends you to filefactory.com and gives you a SUPER slow download. I have a 16mb connection and it's downloading at 20kb/s which is going to make this take 4 hours as this is 389mb to grab this replacement.
Can you tell me of another place where I could download this where it allows faster downloads without having to pay for a membership to get this update?

Yeah, I finally got it to 1.50. It took a lot of trial and error and reading and re-reading though. I'm just happy its done finally now.
What's the best app to back up my phone like it is right now before I start trying to do other things to it?
What are considered the must have apps for the Sensation currently, or what are the coolest ones?
Can you add the beats audio to the regular Sensation? Or will it even effect the quality?

Help on how to restore rooted AT&T One X to stock

Hey guys. I recently purchased a used One X on the MP here. The seller let me know the phone is rooted and running a custom ROM. In my searching for how to restore it to completely stock, I've hit a wall and I need some help.
The only return-to-stock methods I can find are designed for rooted phones running the stock ROM. It seems there's a different method for a phone on a custom ROM? Maybe I'm just plain wrong, but if there is a different method, could someone point me in the right direction please?
While this isn't my first rodeo with rooting/unrooting, it is on anything other than a Samsung device. I'd like to start from scratch on this new phone so returning it to stock is the first step.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wrong section, this should really be in the Q and A section.
I'm assuming this is your first HTC device. We have something called RUUs, or ROM Update Utilities.
This is what you will need to do when you get your phone:
1. Download the RUU for 1.85 (found in the development forums)
2. Install the fastboot tool (google on how to do that)
3. Connect your device in fastboot mode (boot into the bootloader)
4. Run this command:
fastboot oem lock
5. Then from there start up the RUU's .exe file
6. Follow the RUU instructions.
At the end of the RUU you will have a stock phone with one exception, the bootloader will say "relocked" instead of "locked" as it does on stock phones. There is no way to currently get back to it saying "locked" untill we get S-OFF (security off, a "feature" on HTC phones that we are currently working on achieving)
However, your experience with the phone will then be 100% stock.
Sorry about sticking this in the wrong section. I'm usually better than that!
Thank you so much for the info. That's extremely helpful. This is my first HTC device and I'm feeling a little lost so far. Some things seem to translate across devices, but others don't (such as S-off…I could not figure out what that meant, so again, thanks for that!)
I'll have the phone in my hands sometime next week, so I'm trying to do as much research before it arrives as I can.
5. Then from there start up the RUU's .exe file?

Hello, I am also trying to install the factory rom on my HTC One X and I have completed step 4 in the instructions that you put up above. I am stuck on step 5. There are no .exe files from the download i got. These are the only files I got:
evita_readme.txt
evita-ics-crc-3.0.8-271616b.tar
So I am confused when you say to start up the RUU's.exe file
Your help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your response.

[Q] Xfactor exploit repeatedly fails, cannot change CID

Hi everyone,
I just received a used AT&T One X in the mail and was hoping to root and install CM10. The phone came with 1.85 and I was able to get root using the manual method, but hasoon2000's all-in-one tool fails repeatedly to execute the xfactor exploit. I accepted both of the backups on my phone, and as the phone reboots into the bootloader the command line prints "[-] Failed" and returns that my CID is still CWS_001.
I've tried just about everything I can think of and I'm about to give up. I've read that updating to 2.20 with the RUU and then retrying the all-in-one tool has worked, but the RUU will not complete either (I repeatedly get a low battery or USB connection error despite a fully charged battery and correct USB drivers).
Is there anything else I'm missing, or should I just give up and return this thing?
Put the phone down and read read read. The last thing you want to do is upgrade from 1.85 to 2.2 by ota or by ruu.

I used the adb method for 1.85. I didn't get any errors at the command line, until I try to get superuser access in adb and I get "/system/bin/sh: su not found."
MOD EDIT: unhelpful.
Anyway, it's getting late so I'll check in on this tomorrow. If someone has some insight, I would appreciate it.

SuperSU says that I don't have the SU binary installed. I thought maybe the binary linked in the 1.85 rooting method post might be the problem, so I tried pushing the binary from androidsu.com and I still have the same problem - no su access at the command line, SuperSU says no binary is installed, busybox won't install. My bootloader does say TAMPERED.
Solved! For anyone who finds this later with the same problem, I tried the 2.20 RUU in fastboot for the 4th or 5th time, and it finally worked! Once I was on 2.20 I was able to easily use the all in one tool to unlock my bootloader.

Lol... that's why all in one tools are bad for the community. If you actually read the compilation thread, you'll find a 1 click Super CID and root script for 1.85.
Hope you don't brick your device soon.
Enjoy hboot 1.14 you definitely deserve it

He will eventually want to downgrade just like all 1.14 hboot users. He would have to search and read for the script though, oh no.

Yeah, I tried both of those and neither worked. But again, thanks for assuming that you're the only person who reads the stickies. Jesus, this is a hostile forum. Every other device I've owned the communities have been welcoming and helpful, but here it's always LOL CAN'T ROOT? GO READ NEWB. When I posted here I was hoping to get some feedback from someone who might understand what was going on, but I guess that's not the majority of people on this forum. If someone finds this thread with the same problem in the future, I hope they can figure it out as I did.
I had hboot 1.14 when I got the phone, and I see no reason to downgrade now that I've got CM10 up and running, which is all I wanted in the first place.
No you didn't. You were on hboot 1.09. Don't claim we don't know jack when you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
It would be safe to say it's user error if you can't use the super CID script or 1.85 root others else seems to be able to use them without fail.
And this forum seems to be filled with noobs posting asking for root when there are people who take time out of their life to compile resource for noobs to read. If you followed the instructions to the tee, everything would work.
Thank you all for your help, I have learned a great deal in just a short time of reading thanks to your contributions. I have been away for a few months and last I checked, this exploit was not available. I was very pleased to find the wealth of new information and have been reading about the current exploit, and then Hasoon's GUI soon after. But then I too had the same error when attempting both methods, the command line prints "[-] Failed" and returns that my CID is still CWS_001. I am fairly certain my version is 2.20. But I see you mention HBOOT 1.14 Could someone tell me do I need to downgrade to Hboot 1.09 first? Also, point me to the information thread on this or do I just need the Jewel/Evita toolkit? Thanks again for such great support.
Nevermind I figured it out, thank you for all the good reading.

[Q] tried many things, now need help for daughters phone

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to get a 'stable' rom for a phone I've given to my daughter (Evita / Telstra one XL).
I've tried a heap of things, tried to s-off, change radio files etc... Anyway, current status is that it's been unlocked, s-on, and I have twrp.. I'm using KickDroid XL v4.0.0 ROM, looks great, but the phone keeps on rebooting... Also loosing 3G signal, so have to reboot it quite a few times a day to resolve. (tired another rom, same problem, loss of 3g signal and multiple reboots during the day)
I'm sure it's got to do with the radio file, but can't seem to fix that. I've read 'so much!' information, but really confused now. I've tried to supercid it, unsuccessfully, tried to find the all-in-one toolking (bt it looks like its been removed)..
So, this is what I have when I boot it:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.11.0000
RADIO-0.23a.32.09.29
OpenDSP-v28.1.0.32.0504
eMMC-boot
Jun 7 2012,13:10:34
TWRP recovery
2.6.3.0
htc one xl
Evita
Any help in how to (or if I should) get the radio/hboot up to hopefully resolve the loss of 3G?
I'm no expert, but not that dumb either. I follow instructions from the start, but most of the time it gets stuck half way (ie, when doing supercid, boots to the HTC logo, but won't go any further)..
Any help really appreciated.
The problem is not that the ROM is unstable, the ROM is perfectly stable if you meet the requirements. The problem is your current firmware version. You need to update to the 2.15 firmware package. It does state that very clearly in the "You Need" section in the beginning of the Kickdroid thread. Please search/research properly before posting in future, it's part of the XDA rules. This issue has been discussed extensively in every single Sense 5 ROM thread, plus this is probably the 100th thread like this in our Q&A section.

Why are you even giving your daughter a rooted/modded phone at all? Unless she has an understanding of what root means, its not a good idea. Does she even need anything except a bone stock phone?
thanks timmaaa, I appreciate you taking the time out to reply.
I'll do some more checking on firmware 2.15... I've honestly read about 5 hours last weekend on various threads... some lead to dead ends (it toolbox), some I can't get to work (supercid)... I tried this a couple of months ago, and almost bricked it, but managed to get twrp working...
Redpoint73, are you asking why give her a phone, or why a rooted phone? The answer to the first one is that she is 11, and catches the bus to and from school. The phone is used in an emergency. I've rooted it to give her some new features, and because it was locked with Telstra and that is not the carrier we are using anymore (much cheaper options here than Telstra), so I needed to get rid of the firmware...
Overall, I appreciate any help. I actually run 5 forums (car related), and I fully understand noob's coming on and asking the same question week after week. Our forums have a lot less posts than this one (< 200,000), but we still have members, week in-week out, answering the same questions because they like to help, and because sometimes there is too much information out there to sift through, especially when somebody is willing to point you in the right direction with a friendly smile

Its pretty clear from my post that it was root/mod that I was referring to. Root has nothing to do with Subsidy (SIM) Lock, and the firmware has little to do with the carrier you are on (I've been using the German T-Mobile stock ROM for a while now, despite being on AT&T).
Of course its up to you to decide what you do with the phone. But you should consider (if you haven't already) the security risk of giving a rooted device to a user that knows little or nothing about such things. Even more so for s-off, which is necessary for the solution that timmaaa suggested.
My question has less to do with exactly "who" the phone is for. But more to the point, when people come on here saying they are modding the phone for "someone else" (be it mom, third cousin, or whatever), if that person isn't doing it for themselves, its pretty questionable whether they need such mods at all.
ok, thanks redpoint73..
I understand where you are coming from, and appreciate your comments.
Now, anybody else like to point me in the right direction (to a link to get the latest firmware, or a compatible one working)?

You serious? timmaaa already told you where to find it.
Since I'm feeling charitable right now, here it is, complete with step-by-step instructions (only need to follow Posts #2 and 4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485865
The original thread where Turge posted his firmware package (see under "OPTIONAL", s-off is required before doing this): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45072132&postcount=1
Or just install the Beastmode kernel (S-off not required): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165880
thanks mate. I appreciate the charity, I really do I'm trying not to be a nob.. I'm actually having another go this morning... I've got win 8.1 (yeah, I know) so trying to get the latest driver to work is a pain.... Just trying x_factory windows, backups up twice, but then doesn't run the next command (to change CID)...
Anyway, thanks again. I'll persist on...

HTC One S Bricked

Hi all!
About a month ago, I decided to install a custom firmware for my HTC One S but something went wrong at some point.
The phone doesn't load the normal firmware and it just goes in TWRP all the time.
I tried fixing it with several tutorials, but I just got more confused...what should I do now?
I learned about the RUU, but still can't get it to work since I can't find the right one for my phone.
Please help me!
Mike
(I would give you the specs about the phone, but I can't post the screens...XDA policy for external links won't allow me to xD)
Except for the CID part the information I've already posted here apply to your situation, too. If your version-main is deleted you should post your CID here so that we can guess the SKU of your phone.
