Very specific question, and I have search everywhere for an answer.
I know it's a little lengthy of a post, but I tried to be as detailed and specific as possible.
I have android on HD2.
I need the pin lock to kick in and lock the phone completely after a set amount of time (let's say 5 minutes of inactivity). What I mean is, the only way to access the phone is by entering the pass-code or by complete hard reset only. This is for security reasons in case I loose the phone, or if I leave it somewhere unattended- at my office desk for example). I DON'T want the pin lock to kick in every time I turn off/on the screen, because that would be very inefficient and time consuming.
On the other hand, I need the slid lock to kick in within seconds after turning off the screen (so I don't activate the phone every time I touch the screen, or every time I press on a hardware button by mistake, when the phone is in my pocket).
Lastly, I am not looking for an app lock program. I do not need an a program that can prevent individual apps from running.
Before you answer:
Android 2.2 only allows to
1) activate and set time delay for both (pin-lock and slide-lock) at the same time interval. (There is no option to set delayed activation of pin-lock independent from slide-lock. For example if I set to activate the lock in 5 minutes, than both the slide lock and pin lock will kick in after 5min. If you turn off the screen and press on a button inadvertently while it is in your pocket you will be activating the phone and consequently make random calls, activate programs and so on...)
2) disable pin lock and keep slide lock activated. (but than, you than don't have the security of the pin-lock).
3) disable pin-lock and slide-lock altogether
Windows mobile behaves in a similar way, but using S2U2 fixes these issue.
I am using HTC HD2 with Android HyperDroid CyanogenMod 6.
I'd rather see this baked into CM myself, but this feature is actually standard in HTC Sense-based builds.
Anyone? Someone?
Am I the only one who thinks this is Extremely useful and basic functionality?
Also looking for a solution on this. Have you maybe found one?
Running CM 6.1.1 on HTC Desire Z
Greetings!
Hi, on HTC Desire (HD & Z) you can set the lock time out in the "lock" menu independently of the screen on/off setting
Does anybody know of a fix for e.g. Galaxy S
any luck, any help?
You can use a widget to enable or disable pin lock, and have the auto lock set on a low time.

Can you recommend any specific apps that do that?
(surprisingly, this is still not a built in feature in the native OS).

Where is the setting that sets the lockscreen timeout to 15 seconds? I still have a huge issue with pocket dialing and would love to adjust it down to 2 seconds (improve battery life as well). I know that it's not in the apk since the default android timeout is the same with the htclockscreen deleted.
Is this a kernel issue that can't be addressed until the source is released?
Thanks for your time.

The timeout should be in the display section of settings.
It actually most likely is part of the apk. HTC modified the settings apk to add the scenes feature in there. Most likely they either modified that part too or, even more likely, they just read the settings for the lock screen in their lock screen apk. Either way, this is what would need to be modified to allow for adjusting of the timeout. Now, that said, there may be a plethor of other places that need to be modified to allow for this change to actually work. Right now this would be a lower priority.
There is already a 15sec lockout option. Go Menu>Sound & Display>Screen Timeout (will be at the bottom of the page).

So you're saying that on a vanilla build of android there is a setting for the lockscreen timeout, and that the default android lockscreen is part of the settings.apk?

Not the screen timeout, the lockscreen timeout. In my pocket the menu button can be pressed, then pressed again within a 15 second window to wake the device and magically start dialing. I would like to cut that 15 seconds down to a realistic 2-3 seconds.
That's a good idea and I'm interested to hear if it's possible.

I commend you then, I didn't last an hour inputting the damn thing every few minutes just to read a text message...but of course I don't need my phone to be that secure so the annoyance > necessity
That said, the lockscreen should be able to accommodate the both of us, and I'm just looking for a solution that works for me.

And I was simply suggestion a possible solution. Also I have my lockscreen timeout set to 1min.
My personal recommendation: follow the directions in the thread on deleting unwanted apps to root your Hero, remount the filesystem so you can delete HtcLockScreen.apk, then buy LockbotPro & install it instead. The current version is a little buggy in the way it handles reboots (after you reboot, the Android non-HTC lockscreen becomes re-enabled and "first in line"), but it's not too hard to fix when it happens, and it works wonderfully the rest of the time.
To fix it after rebooting, you basically swat away the default Android lockscreen (menu-menu), launch Lockbot, launch its settings menu, un-check "enable lockbot", return to home, relaunch Lockbot, launch its settings menu, re-check "enable lockbot", and you're done. Looking at the changelog, it appears that the bug I just described is a fairly recent new bug, and it looks like the author is releasing updates every couple of days trying to fix it.
Note that Lockbot will "kind of" work if you don't root & delete HTC's lockscreen... but it won't work well because HTC's lockscreen is pretty aggressive about defending its turf. It's a night & day difference. (Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but as they say... there's no zealot like the reformed sinner. If I'd known how easy it would be to fix the #1 thing I hated about my Hero, I'd have done it the afternoon the first "how to root the CDMA Hero" hit the net
I can definitely say that my overall happiness & satisfaction increased dramatically after I did it. It sounds petty, but HTC's dysfunctional/useless lock screen (backed up by Android1.5's annoying & tedious default) really did annoy me to the point where I was starting to dislike my Hero. Rooting & replacing them with Lockbot really made a difference.
Thanks for the recommendation, nice to see I'm not the only one annoyed with the default lockscreen issue.
I tried out LockBot all day yesterday but it still has one major flaw, any/every button will wake the device (not just 'menu' and 'power'). Each time I pulled the phone out of my pocket the screen was on, pretty sure it's the trackball constantly getting tapped in my pocket.
Had to delete it due to battery drain. Still looking for a solution
Hi
I was wondering if there is a app that can co-exits with the original lockscreen.
The idea is that the normal slide lock will work as a normal keyguard (just makes sure you don't press any buttons when it is in the pocket)
Furthermore I would like another lockscreen at the same time, that won't kick in before a user defined time has durated, let's say 5 minutes. The second lockscreen is to prevent use if the phone is stolen, and should need a PIN code for example.
Is there any app that does that? or is there a lock screen replacement, where you just don't need to type a password within the first 5 mins but afterwards you do?

Does it show the normal lock screen within the 1st minutes and need a pin code after for example 5 minutes?
Tried it, and didn't quit do as I wanted...
Im on HTC Sensation with android 2.3.3 and Sense 3.0, could be it is not supported
EDIT: got it to work... just needed to check and enable security ;-) Thanks for the heads up
Is it possible that the app isn't compatible with Samsung Galaxy S II ?
It works fine on my HTC Sensation, but get reports from SGS2 users that it doesnt work
Do you use a passcode lock on your phone? If so is it a pattern or password based. Why or why not? I've just been wondering lately. It's becoming more of a hassle not having a reliable timeout for putting in a password.
I wish you could set the passcode lock to come up only every hour and until then it would use the regular lockscreen that can take you directly to texts/missed calls etc.
What do you prefer?
I used pattern lock for a bit when I first got my phone. Then I realized you could see the pattern left by the grease on my fingers. Also very easy for one to watch you and replicate. Same with pin, as far as one watching you. If someone gets ahold of your phone physically, they have access to your sdcard and internal with adb. the only security I use at the moment is, holding on to my phone.

I use the non visible pattern lock and Sim lock.
I'll sometimes disable the pattern lock if I'm using my phone heavily but make sure I enable it when I'm done.
I'm a secret squirrel kinda guy. You just can't pick my phone up and read my emails, text, contacts and browser history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Juice Defender give you the ability to set seperate screen off and lock times? Its full of many other usefull tools as well.
I don't use the locks personally, seems more trouble then I'm willing to deal with. I have the app setup to lock and locate it remotely via SMS if the need be. Besides, what's the worst that could happen other then someone seeing all the porn I have on here.

Juice Defender's lock timeouts never worked right for this specific phone. I looked into it a while back and went with Unlock With Wifi. It worked very well in Froyo in the early versions of the app but with GB and the latest versions it locks on its own randomly even though it's been more than 15 minutes (my timeout at the moment).
Lockscreens are just a hassle :/.
I stopped using the pattern lock when I realized that Odin would get rid of it. I'm sure almost everyone has a friend that knows about how to root phones, so if it's lost, the lockscreen doesn't provide that much protection.
Aside from security, it also doesn't let me use my music player on the lockscreen! It was quite annoying to unlock > access music. Now that I'm using the MIUI lockscreen, it's just turning on the phone and pressing the button.
Btw, for those that might not know, pressing the unlock button twice will open up your music player on the MIUI lockscreen! I found out a few weeks ago! XD
Yes I use the pattern just bcuz it looks cool. Lol. I just wish u could also put one of the EDT tweaks lockscreens and the passcode so i could use the MIUI lockscreen :/

I have my corperate emails linked with my phone which requires me to have my screenlock password enabled for it to work. I hate having to put in my code every time I look at my phone. Is there any way to bypass this security requirement, like tell the server that I have this feature enabled when it is not? Thanks.

Have you tried the app No Lock? It's free in the Market. Basically it disables the lock screen. It's been a while since I've used it, but if I remember correctly you can still have a security password set. No Lock just never lets the phone actually lock. You can enable/disable it easily with a widget on your homescreen.
I used to use it because I wanted to be able to wake the phone using the volume keys. Since I found a mod to allow that and still have the lock screen enabled, I stopped using the app.
Look I'm the android general forums. They have a way to bypass it, but mind you that if your IT department finds out you can get into trouble for it.
The no lock app prevents the lock from turning on if the screen goes black due to inactivity, and suits my need perfectly. I can push the power button and the lock comes on. Thanks for the help and advice.

Hi, those of you who use WidgetLocker Lockscreen by TeslaCoil Software app will notice than every time when you unlock your phone from the replacement lock screen, you will see that the phone will flash the default lock screen for a very short period of time (less than a second, but this can be really annoying), but it will generally be able to bring it to the screen where you enter your password or pattern. However, sometime it will fail to bring you to the *"simplified version" of the lockscreen, and will just bring you to the default lock instead.*(I mean "simplified version" because unlike the default lockscreen where you can also have the option to use the Emergency Call Option, they only give you the pattern lock or the password lock. (Those who use this software will know what I mean!)). And here's an idea that comes out of my mind: Can we actually disable the default lockscreen while using the WidgetLocker application?
And one more question: Sometime even WidgetLocker brings me to the right lockscreen and I draw the right pattern, it will just simply say that the pattern is not correct and I need to enter it for several times before it accepts it and sometime after many failed tries, I even need to wait for 30 seconds before trying to entering it again. Can someone also fix this problem? Thanks a lot.
My device Atrix 4G ME860 HKTW version is rooted, so feel free to give suggestions that involve root access
