Does anyone know of any applications that uses Google authentication to tricker a GV call back? im trying to use this with Sipdroid for true VOIP calling over data.

AFAIK you cannot trigger a callback with and unauthorized client since the clients spoof the GV webapp's callback feature (not entirely certain on that one.). So you will have to trust one of the current apps, use the gv mobile website or wait for/request a client to use OAuth or some other protocol that does a similar method of authentication.

I am have that exact setup: GVoice->Sipgate->Sipdroid.
Works great on wifi but kinda sucky over 3g. But hey it is free...!
Yeah ill just have to create a throwaway account for this since i dont feel safe passing my credentials to a third party app.

Yeah, if I had to choose one thing I miss about my iPhone, it would be visual voicemail. Would definitely like to see a mod for it.

Google Voice is the best/free app that comes to my mind (works great for me), however I'm sure if you Google or just look for apps on the marketplace they shouldn't be hard to find...

Duh, I completely forgot about my Google Voice account. I need to set that up haha.

There is an app called visual voicemail. It is made by Fusion. Works great for me. I used it with Windows mobile. Had an account back then. I even get faxes to my cell number. All free when I signed up with Windows Mobile.

Yes, Google Voice is pretty good. Its about as close to iphone visual voicemail as you're gonna get on the Captivate.
Plus I kind of like the transcribed voicemail emails.

Log into your google account on your computer. Find google voice on google's site. There is an option to use google voice for just voice mail. There will also be instructions for setting up your phone to forward voice mails to your google voice account. When you are all done wth that, download google voice from the market and go through its options.
I did all that and google voice works seamlessly for my voice mail.
Just open another google accountunder the same email. Problem solved

Problem NOT solved because it's still a different account with a new contact list.
Your google voice account does not have to be the same as your primary account. I have a google apps account that I use as my primary account for contacts, email and calendars. I have a second account that I use for the market and google voice. It works fine.

But none of your Voice stuff syncs with the main account.

For example like Netmeeting on Windows, or Buddyphone which I used for this purpose yeeeears ago.

I'm an amateur, but how about Jabber from Cisco? (Or Cisco Mobile 8.1 for Apple iPhone)
I am looking for a way to use an Android or iPhone as a handset for an ip-phone in the house - on WiFi. It seems this would do the trick.
My friends have the option to make calls with Google Voice...but I do not...even Sipdroid does not have the option to set it up with Google Voice like a lot of my friends have...the option is just missing entirely from the Sipdroid app
I have checked Voice settings, its certainly sync'd with my phone number, and I receive voicemails via Voice, but no option anywhere to make calls....

When u installed did u select the option to ask whether to use google voice automatically? Also don't move app to sd cuz I sent wasn't able to use widget. So either move to phone internal mem or uninstall and reinstall. Hth

I'm not sure about Google Voice, but SIPDroid works great with my company's SIP gateway. To call via SIP, as I remember, you need to either set SIPDroid as your preferred calling method, or suffix the number with a "+"
You might also want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548405 which came up from a Google search for "sipdroid" as the second listing, right after http://sipdroid.org/
I see there are a few threads on this subject but I wanted to know what works for you.
Edit! I got it working and it is simple.
1. Download Google Voice
2. Go to pbxes.org and register an account or you can install sip droid from the market and it will set up your account. I recommend going to their website, but if that seems to complicated just install sipdroid then disable it. You will still have your pbxes.org account.
You will need your user name which will be something like:
yourusername-200
password that you create at pbxes.org
server will be pbxes.org
Now This is setup is for CM7.
Go to settings and click on call settings
Click on Accounts
add account
and fill in the information above username,password,server
go to more options
set transport type to TCP
You may need to set your router to open port 5060
I also gave my phone better QOS, which is optional
I can make calls for free on my wifi or even over 3g!
Now i just need some tips from you guys on optimizing this.
i use SipDroid, but i have a VM set up in one of my ESX hosts at home running PBXinaFlash tied to my google voice account...so I get to control the quality of my calls and my extensions.
I took a look at that. I would do that but my extra computer i had now a htpc but if i had another one I would love to pbxflash.

There is nothing wrong with the build in SIP client in 2.3.3. I use it, via TCP (to save battery) to my home PIAF server. Works great. Just because it didn't work for you doesn't make it crap.

How do you set it up?
I too use pbxes.org but i can't get it to work on the built in client. I'm using CM7.
Lets say my user name is username-200
password is password
server is pbxes.org
what else do you have configured?
These are my other settings: (my rom is Cyanogenmod on a Captivate)
*use internet calling for all calls when data network is available
*Receive incoming calls (checked)
*transport type = TCP
When you enabled your native client to work with pbxes, did you use tcp out udp? I noticed more battery drain with native client.

I am using tcp. Unfortunately the native client is a battery hog. My battery life went from horrible to average after I changed the keep alive interval to 30 minutes. It was set by default to 15 seconds. Once again, my rom is CyanogenMod.
After getting this working nicely with the native sip stack on CM7 I tried csipsimple and I got to say it is much better and much more robust.

But i'll try again. Since cm7 2.3.5 sip calling has been working flawlessly.
So since your running nightly 73 your good.
You need to get a google voice account.
Go to the web page and make sure you have google chat enabled.
You now need to set up a sip account you can go to pbxes.org or install sipdroid and sync it with your gmail account.
Once you have sip droid up and going you can just forget about it or uninstall it because you have a pbxes.org account set up
Next you will need your sip credentials that you got from sipdroid that is linked to your pbxes.org account.
Username
password
server
That's about all the info you will need. I'll try to help you a little more just hit me up on a g+ account. I'll think about making a video for this since it won't be too hard to do.

Well, I've been using sipdroind for what seems like ever, but ever since I've got 2.3.3 installed on my phone, I've switched to the native client.
It feels way more responsive and gives me better battery life than the sipdroid.
I do miss rules (so I could set which calls go where) and SIP registration status notifications and I've considered writing an app for that (registration status), but doesn't look like there's a way to get the registration status of the settings-defined SIP profile.
If you have a Google voice number like me, you are probably sad that all the third party apps that enabled VoIP using Google voice on android have stopped working. Like grooveip and talkatone.
Well here is a good news.. You can use VoIP calls from your android device. You need to do two things
1) Enable hangouts instead on talk in gmail
2) Download opera browser (any browser that can fake a desktop UA might work. I use opera)
Now, change the user agent to desktop in opera browser and call using hangouts in gmail like you usually do on a PC and it works!!!
If you already knew this, good for you. I didn't and I just found out so I am sharing an option till Google releases full hangouts Google voice integration.

Thanks. I am especially bitter about this issue as I reside abroad and came to depend on Google voice.
I hope they rather, and soon, integrate features into hangouts for it. The fact they haven't is annoying.
