My friends have the option to make calls with Google Voice...but I do not...even Sipdroid does not have the option to set it up with Google Voice like a lot of my friends have...the option is just missing entirely from the Sipdroid app
I have checked Voice settings, its certainly sync'd with my phone number, and I receive voicemails via Voice, but no option anywhere to make calls....
Wow no help at all? Lol

When u installed did u select the option to ask whether to use google voice automatically? Also don't move app to sd cuz I sent wasn't able to use widget. So either move to phone internal mem or uninstall and reinstall. Hth

I'm not sure about Google Voice, but SIPDroid works great with my company's SIP gateway. To call via SIP, as I remember, you need to either set SIPDroid as your preferred calling method, or suffix the number with a "+"
You might also want to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548405 which came up from a Google search for "sipdroid" as the second listing, right after http://sipdroid.org/

New to android, and was wondering if there is an app that will do voicemail like iphone? I think evo has it.

Yeah, if I had to choose one thing I miss about my iPhone, it would be visual voicemail. Would definitely like to see a mod for it.
Google Voice
Google Voice is the best/free app that comes to my mind (works great for me), however I'm sure if you Google or just look for apps on the marketplace they shouldn't be hard to find...
the best visual voicemail app ive found is called youmail
I use Google voice for visual voicemail.

Duh, I completely forgot about my Google Voice account. I need to set that up haha.
Visual voicemail by Fusion
There is an app called visual voicemail. It is made by Fusion. Works great for me. I used it with Windows mobile. Had an account back then. I even get faxes to my cell number. All free when I signed up with Windows Mobile.
I don't think this belongs in the development section
this definitely belongs in general. keep the development section open for roms and fixes etc.
Anyone else think we need a q&a sections like some of the other phones?
Unfortunately for those of us that use Google Apps they left us in the dust on Google Voice.

Yes, Google Voice is pretty good. Its about as close to iphone visual voicemail as you're gonna get on the Captivate.
Plus I kind of like the transcribed voicemail emails.
How do I use that instead of att
voicemail?
Sorry for a noob q??

Log into your google account on your computer. Find google voice on google's site. There is an option to use google voice for just voice mail. There will also be instructions for setting up your phone to forward voice mails to your google voice account. When you are all done wth that, download google voice from the market and go through its options.
I did all that and google voice works seamlessly for my voice mail.
Just open another google accountunder the same email. Problem solved

Damn. I didn't know you could do that. I started another account under a different name because the market wouldn't work with my apps name.

Problem NOT solved because it's still a different account with a new contact list.
Your google voice account does not have to be the same as your primary account. I have a google apps account that I use as my primary account for contacts, email and calendars. I have a second account that I use for the market and google voice. It works fine.

First off, I thought Google apps would be easier to find on the Android market... my god was it not. Second, I notice this phone has a visual voicemail feature... but then you can go and setup google voice. I was able to enable Visual Voicemail, set google voice as my primary voicemail... but now when I click my voicemail tab under Phone its just a white screen...
Do i actually have to use the Google Voice app? I thought Android would have more voice integration than this...
any assistance on making Google Voice my primary voicemail?

Visual VM app will only work with Tmobile VM, so in order for you to use Google Voice VM you need to use google voice app and if you like you can use one of the google voice widgets but you can not use Visual vm in sense with google voice
hope this helps
What are you ranting about!
Go to the market, search for "google", pick any app that is from "google inc", slide down & click on "view more applications". How hard is that!
As for VVM, first and foremost, it's a carrier-side service. Go rant there.

LMAO nap time?
You don't need VVM with GV. The voice app gives you transcribed VM and highlights the words as you play it. I put a shortcut to GV on my homescreen and viola.
Just change your vm number to your googlevoice number and u will be good to go

I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

This uses bluetooth right?
i set my dad up with a nexus s 4g the other week. he already had an evo shift and used gv as his vm provider, but when i went to set it up on his ns4g it did not give me any options to keep his number. normally when i set it up the first screen asks me if i want to integrate my gv and sprint numbers, but gives me the option to skip it. the ns4g didnt, and after i set it up i even went in and disassociated the numbers via the web interface to make sure i didnt miss it but when i went to set up the app again it forced the integration.
i searched but didnt find anything, is this normal? im planning to get the galaxy nexus but keeping my gv and regular numbers separate is a must so this would be a deal breaker. thanks!

I use it but not integrated. Op try going to setting apps and look for google voice and clear data see if that works.

You going to have to go to www.google.com/voice. Log in and disable integration
I was looking for this online and couldn't find anything.
Basically I want to be able to make phone calls via Samsung Galaxy S 4G using an extension within Chrome.
i.e, I want to click on an extension (within Chrome), dial numbers on my computer keypad and have my phone call it.
And I want to be able to see my contact list AS WELL AS have the ability to dial numbers.
Is this possible???
Thanks!
Theres one for your body called your arm. It also has a hand that you can pick up your phone and dial/view contacts with.
For google chrome probably not.
Google Voice yes. Not sure if its exactly what ya want but it works.

Sounds like you'd benefit from using Google Voice
https://www.google.com/voice
Log into the google voice page, pick the contact you want to call and select call, it'll ask you which phone you'd like to connect with and you can use your sgs4g or even gtalk if you want to do it directly from your computer (you need a mic).

i tried that but it doesn't work.. if i click on the contact list, the only thing i can do is check the box associate with the contact.. nothing more..i then tried to sign up for google voice and I had to port my number to it. I tried the lite version but i'd rather have my voicemail goto my carrier (Tmobile) than to google..
Just kidding man ill look at google voice after class and see what i can find.
