I just started having this issue, i can't connect to any data at all, i have tried battery pulls, using restart connection, running different roms, using restores where everything was working, doing a full wipe and then installing a new rom, but still no luck. Should i try just a factory restore? i also read that taking out the battery, then take out the sim card, booting the phone up with out the sim card in, getting errors and then shut it off and then put the sim card back in works, but im not sure which of those to try, any advice?
when that happened to me i did a factory reset and it worked afterward
Check around first, see if Verizon is having problems in your area. I know recently places have been popping up with sporadic outages.

But isn't installing a rom and wiping the data and cache the same as a factory restore?
I had this happen to me earlier this week. When I called Verizon support they told me that towers were down in my area, they told me the same when I called back the next day. Meanwhile, others who own the TB seemed to be having no issues. Finally I took my phone into a Verizon store and they are shipping me a replacement phone. They would not swap my phone in the store since I was a whopping 4 days beyond the 14 day return window...but, I digress.
The one workaround that I found in the meantime is to switch your modem settings. Dial ##778, select Edit Mode, enter 000000 as the password and select Modem Settings. Select Rev. A and choose Enable. Press your menu button and select Commit Changes. Your phone will reboot and you can use the LTE On/Off App (or just dial *#*#4636#*#* and choose Phone information) and switch the radio to CDMA Auto (PRL). That enabled me to have 3G data, though it seems extremely slow relative to 3G on my OG Droid. But, in a pinch it seems to work.
One additional bit of advice, in case you are running a custom ROM. I was running Virus ROM and ##778 would crash whenever I tried to run it. In order to swap the modem settings, I had to flash back to stock and make the updates, then flash back to Virus. I don't know if this is specific to Virus, but just an FYI.
Just tried on das bamf and worked fine (##778) must just be virus.

You won't get 4G on that setting, it turns the 4G radio off entirely. You would need to switch back to the CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto or LTE mode settings to get 4G. Ultimately, my issue ended up being a defective phone. You can try to wait it out and see if you get 4G back later, but you may just have a faulty device.
If that is the case, just remember to follow the instructions that jcase posted in the development forum to get your phone back to stock with s-on before taking it into a Verizon store. If you bring a rooted device in, I suspect they aren't going to honor any sort of warranty.
My phone had this problem too... turns out when I went into a 4g area the mobile network box got unchecked in the wireless & network settings.
I use the "verify with multiple devices method". I am tired of the standard VZW "towers are down in your area" bs answer.
If another tb, xoom, and bb have service and my tb doesn't, that tells me something is wrong.
I have a feeling that there is something seriously wrong with the network (implementation or backend hardware) that is causing this with 4G devices. Either that or the tb is to blame entirely for Verizon's 4G issues...... /rantoff..... LOL

Was having issues earlier today with 4G. The connection and signal were good, but no data would download. The white up arrow would light up, but the down arrow never would. It was like that for about 4 hours. It's working great now and speeds are disgustingly fast.. maybe VZ doing some maintenance?
EDIT: THis is in San Diego.

Factory Reset from bootloader worked for me. I had the exact same problem. Tried everything that was suggested, but no data still. Only enabling Rev. A worked.
Thanks for the help, the problem I'm having now is I got 3g but I can't get 4G back, I have tried to switch my settings back to get 4G using LTE on/off and by dialing the number, and I have had no luck, in those menus it tells me service type LTE but it is disconnected, and I get no data or 4G symbol in the status bar, so I'm confused if I maybe messed up a setting or what, so should I just try a factory restore via the bootloader and see if that works? Any other suggestions ?

I would try the factory reset from bootloader, but I was on the stock ROM when I did it. So I don't know if that would matter or not.

Just to reiterate, my 4G never came back. The phone was just broken. It sounds suspiciously like you are having the same issue. Maybe there is a manufacturing defect that makes this issue more prevalent with this phone right now? If you are in the 14 day return period, set your modem and radio settings back and get into the store ASAP to swap the phone out. Otherwise, call customer service and have them replace the phone. They will overnight you a new phone if you complain enough.
Ok I was looking through my modem settings after dialing ##778 and I had changed the rev a. Setting to enable, that got my 3g working, but what is eHRPD is that would I should have it on too have 3g/4g? But everytime I have tried setting it to that I get no data so is that the setting that is messed up?

Over the past 2 weeks my data will drop all the way down to G or E and when I open up a webpage I get an error that says no internet is available. I have to refresh the page a few times for H to show and display the page. I live outside a major city and I don't recall this happening when I purchased the phone. Right now I'm stock rooted, any ideas what may be causing this? I looked through the settings but nothing stood out that I could change.

I have this Problem ALL the time......i lose connection and have to toggle airplane mode to get it to come back. ON ANY ROM, ANY KERNEL, or MODEM
I think its the INFUSE.
^ really? How in all of hell would hardware cause a problem with network dropping out when a specific app is doing a specific task? It's AT&T's disgusting froyo ROM and kernel messing it up.
Im just telling you, that on Stock or Custom roms i have this issue.
i have had this issue with this phone since i opened it, and i have already returned it for another one, with the same issue.
not saying i lose it all the time, but at least twice a day and it Does not come back unless i reboot or toggle airplane mode.
i have HAD this issue. i fixed it by forcing the phone on to the 3G network.
>settings>wireless and network>mobile networks> network mode? WCDMA only.
fixed my issues, but you have to set it after every reboot.
if you dont see the option try from the dial pad *#*#4636#*#* and go to >Phone Information>scroll down and set preferred network type to WCDMA only

yeah id be great if you can report back with a yes or a no.
i had to use the 4636 meathod to change that option.
but when i do this, it makes my time go to East Greenland Summer time....lol unless i leave off the Automatic setting.
will continue to test and see if i lose Carrier.
yeah some roms dont have the options i know infused. its a safer bet to do it from the dial pad.
Tried the 4636 method and that didn't help. I wonder if I should Odin back to stock again, I'm at a loss.

ive seen this method work for any rom that i try.
dont reboot because that will put you in the same place as you started.
SGSII Has similar issue...
Hey All,
The SGSII (of which I own) has a similar issue with it. What needs to be done is to switch "off" Fast Dormancy of which the option can be found by dialing a specific code (*#9900#* i believe)...

It wont let me do the *#9900#*. As soon as I input the second # it takes me to an odd screen where I don't see that option

Phone: Bionic
OS: ICS (6.7.232) Rooted
Would like some discussion going here on about the program LTE OnOff.
I know it accomplishes the same thing as *#*#4636#*#* and my question/problem is as follows regarding it;
I used this method to turn 4G off and switch to 3G to conserve some juice, been working well all day. About an hour ago, the phone went klafui and the only option that worked was cdma auto prl (3G). I could not get my 4G back and I am in a full bar 4G area. I did everything short of doing a factory reset (which I wasn't sure if I should even do that running the leak, not all that knowledgeable on this stuff yet).
Should I avoid this menu all together? If so, what else can I do to enable 3G / Disable 4G? ICS (at least on Verizon) as you know does not allow you to change the network. I am kinda iffed about going back in there to change it in fear that I may have just gotten lucky this time. This has happened to others before as well (Link Here) but no real cause or solution has been found (except reprovision the sim card? (*2767*3855#) They gave a code but it appears to be Samsung specific) so I wanted to get the input from the forum with smart people.
Is it a good question, dumb question or does nobody know?
I am surprised by how many views and how quickly but no responses.

Check your modem in 'About Phone'. LB6 only shows 3G but you get 4G speeds. Other CM9 modems will show H instead of 4G.

I looked under About Phone and there is nothing that shows the modem version, I did try flashing several modems though. I never had one show "H"
always 3G, What modem would be best to run? I appreciate all your input, still learning!
Modem is baseband version.
It says T959VUVKJ6 Also says under status Mobile Network Type EDGE 2 is that correct?
Silly question here. You don't happen to have use 2g connection checked or anything silly like that. Data roaming and such also checked.?

Not a silly question, I realized that the data connection for use only 2G networks was checked. I unchecked it and reset the data connection and there you go 4G. I appreciate all your help. I do have one more question. It seems every time my phone is rebooted the 2G connection sets by default automatically, can I stop that so I dont have to turn it off and reset the data connection every time?

I have the same situation and would like to hear how you resolve it. The check mark for 2 g keeps returning.
--Charley
Three major possibilities:
1) The ROM you're using might have it hardcoded. Change to a different ROM.
2) You might be using a battery saving program that sets it to save power. Remove the program or change its settings.
3) Something else.
Hi all. I've had a search but can't find much on this. A friend has a bog stock Telstra one xl running stock jb. The data connection works fine except written she's trying actually download a file like a pdf attached to an email or an app from the market. When the download starts, the phone switches to hspa mode, as you would expect and then the download pauses before and data is downloaded and the phone switches back to 3g mode. The download never resumes. It works fine on wifi.
I've tried force closing the download and google play apps as well as clearing their data and cache. I've reset the apns to default. I've tried creating a new apn as directed by Telstra's config site. I've tried using different google accounts.
Apart from doing a hard reset, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks heaps

Curiously, will it download on WiFi?
If so, I suspect an Apn setting or perhaps carrier side issue maybe, will phone surf net on data side of things?

Sounds like it could be one of two things.
It could be that when the phone sleeps (screen times out) it switches to a low-power mode to save on battery. (check settings)
Also, If the setting for WiFi sleep is set to always, it will hold a connection even when the phone has timed out.
Or, it could be your friends location. It could be right on the edge of having HSPA+ on the coverage map, thus the phone gets a low HSPA+ signal and switches to WCDMA.

Yes, the phone will surf fine on mobile data just won't download actual files. Everything works fine on wifi.
I've checked the apns against my razr hd on the same network. Some were slightly different so i changed them to match. No difference. I reset the apns to default. No difference. I setup the apns to the carriers specifications including a proxy. No difference.
I think she may have to do a hard reset...

The location makes no difference. I'm sure it's not that.
As for the sleep thing. That would affect all mobile data. But you can be surfing on the internet, find a file to download but then the download will pause straight away. So i don't think it's that...
Thanks for the replies guys.

Just as a further note. I just tried forcing it use the 2g network only and the same problem persists. It uses EDGE to surf but any download instantly pauses...
Strange. Is there any chance an app could be causing it?
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
Yes, even in its own settings you can set a limit. But I'd expect a toast notification to alert you of that an not be able to surf.
Sounds like something missing in the apn yet to me but that's my feelings on it. My telus uses two, only carrier that does that I know of, I get ok speed on one but with second I get very fast speeds.

I've had a very similar thing happen to me as well. It's not restricted to downloading though, it happens while surfing too. So I initiate a download or load a web page or load a page on the XDA app, it switches to HSPA, then it will drop back to 3g and the download goes nowhere. Usually opening a web page (or initiating some other kind of data transfer) will switch it up to HSPA again and the download/web page will resume. It's not a constant thing, only sometimes.
I happen to live in a house with terrible Telstra signal and it happens mostly here. Like I said it's only every now and then for me though. Is the signal strength ok where your friend is?
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium
No definitely nothing to do with location. You can have full coverage at the problem persists. My Razr hd works perfectly beside it and the one xl supposedly has better reception (blue tick) although I'm yet to see any evidence that the Razr actually has worse reception. It seems very good. Must have come very very close to getting blue tick too...
