I just started having this issue, i can't connect to any data at all, i have tried battery pulls, using restart connection, running different roms, using restores where everything was working, doing a full wipe and then installing a new rom, but still no luck. Should i try just a factory restore? i also read that taking out the battery, then take out the sim card, booting the phone up with out the sim card in, getting errors and then shut it off and then put the sim card back in works, but im not sure which of those to try, any advice?
when that happened to me i did a factory reset and it worked afterward
Check around first, see if Verizon is having problems in your area. I know recently places have been popping up with sporadic outages.

But isn't installing a rom and wiping the data and cache the same as a factory restore?
I had this happen to me earlier this week. When I called Verizon support they told me that towers were down in my area, they told me the same when I called back the next day. Meanwhile, others who own the TB seemed to be having no issues. Finally I took my phone into a Verizon store and they are shipping me a replacement phone. They would not swap my phone in the store since I was a whopping 4 days beyond the 14 day return window...but, I digress.
The one workaround that I found in the meantime is to switch your modem settings. Dial ##778, select Edit Mode, enter 000000 as the password and select Modem Settings. Select Rev. A and choose Enable. Press your menu button and select Commit Changes. Your phone will reboot and you can use the LTE On/Off App (or just dial *#*#4636#*#* and choose Phone information) and switch the radio to CDMA Auto (PRL). That enabled me to have 3G data, though it seems extremely slow relative to 3G on my OG Droid. But, in a pinch it seems to work.
One additional bit of advice, in case you are running a custom ROM. I was running Virus ROM and ##778 would crash whenever I tried to run it. In order to swap the modem settings, I had to flash back to stock and make the updates, then flash back to Virus. I don't know if this is specific to Virus, but just an FYI.
Just tried on das bamf and worked fine (##778) must just be virus.

You won't get 4G on that setting, it turns the 4G radio off entirely. You would need to switch back to the CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto or LTE mode settings to get 4G. Ultimately, my issue ended up being a defective phone. You can try to wait it out and see if you get 4G back later, but you may just have a faulty device.
If that is the case, just remember to follow the instructions that jcase posted in the development forum to get your phone back to stock with s-on before taking it into a Verizon store. If you bring a rooted device in, I suspect they aren't going to honor any sort of warranty.
My phone had this problem too... turns out when I went into a 4g area the mobile network box got unchecked in the wireless & network settings.
I use the "verify with multiple devices method". I am tired of the standard VZW "towers are down in your area" bs answer.
If another tb, xoom, and bb have service and my tb doesn't, that tells me something is wrong.
I have a feeling that there is something seriously wrong with the network (implementation or backend hardware) that is causing this with 4G devices. Either that or the tb is to blame entirely for Verizon's 4G issues...... /rantoff..... LOL

Was having issues earlier today with 4G. The connection and signal were good, but no data would download. The white up arrow would light up, but the down arrow never would. It was like that for about 4 hours. It's working great now and speeds are disgustingly fast.. maybe VZ doing some maintenance?
EDIT: THis is in San Diego.

Factory Reset from bootloader worked for me. I had the exact same problem. Tried everything that was suggested, but no data still. Only enabling Rev. A worked.
Thanks for the help, the problem I'm having now is I got 3g but I can't get 4G back, I have tried to switch my settings back to get 4G using LTE on/off and by dialing the number, and I have had no luck, in those menus it tells me service type LTE but it is disconnected, and I get no data or 4G symbol in the status bar, so I'm confused if I maybe messed up a setting or what, so should I just try a factory restore via the bootloader and see if that works? Any other suggestions ?

I would try the factory reset from bootloader, but I was on the stock ROM when I did it. So I don't know if that would matter or not.

Just to reiterate, my 4G never came back. The phone was just broken. It sounds suspiciously like you are having the same issue. Maybe there is a manufacturing defect that makes this issue more prevalent with this phone right now? If you are in the 14 day return period, set your modem and radio settings back and get into the store ASAP to swap the phone out. Otherwise, call customer service and have them replace the phone. They will overnight you a new phone if you complain enough.
Ok I was looking through my modem settings after dialing ##778 and I had changed the rev a. Setting to enable, that got my 3g working, but what is eHRPD is that would I should have it on too have 3g/4g? But everytime I have tried setting it to that I get no data so is that the setting that is messed up?

Hey guys, I swapped my LG Optimus 7 (Windows Phone) with my mum last week for her Sensation.
First thing I tried to do was access the internet. Wi-Fi is fine, but 3G is an issue. It works, but it takes around 10 seconds before Google starts loading, and another 30 before it's fully finished loading.
I downloaded the SpeedTest.net app, and the results are terrible. I'm getting around 1600ms ping, 5.5 kb/s down and 5.7 kb/s up.
There isn't a speed test app for WP7, but the loading times were almost instantaneous. It was fast enough to tether with and play some games, but with the Sensation, I can't log into anything because the connection times out.
I have near full 3G reception too, so that's not the issue. I've tried a factory reset, toggling ciphering and resetting the APN settings, but nothing's helped.
Any ideas?

You can try to lock on to wcdma only and see if it helps. I kept going to edge and it drove me crazy, but after I locked on I get now 4g only. You can lock on by going to *#*#4634#*#* the you will see a menu with phone information, click it. Scroll down until you see your current network signal, there is a menu there press the corner and menu will pop up from there you can try different signals. Once you choose one, scroll down press refresh and your set see if this helps you. I use this method. Hope it helps. Good luck.

You should request your operator for the correct settings for your phone.
I have spoken to them, and the settings I have are correct. It's an issue with the phone itself.
Still no help from HTC. I might just have to switch handsets back.

Airplane mode is a feature of the phone and turns off all radios. You can hold the power button and choose airplane mode or use the quick toggle in the notification window. Since it sounds like you may be in an area with weak 4G, you can also use an app called Phone Info to set it to CDMA auto (PRL) under Device Information. You can also change it back to LTE/CDMA/EvDO if you want it to switch as normal.
With the Verizon S3, is there the need to do *228 (or *22899) ? I did this every so often on my old HTC Incredible.

Doesn't work on LTE devices. A reboot essentially does the same thing. Some have recommended pulling the battery with the phone on, removing the sim card for about 30sec and then putting everything back in.
Thanks, I know what airplane mode is, wasn't sure where the APN setting was. I will look in to phone info though.

Are you guys also experiencing the "No Sim Card" and "No Network Connection" issues?
Or is this an entirely different issue?
When this phone goes to 3g, it does seem extra bad on how long it takes to switch back to 4g. i have areas where i live where it goes to 3g when going in between hill (less than a 50 foot stretch) and it will not go back to 4g for over 10 minutes if i dont manually do it. Not to mention my LTE never goes above 10 mbps on the best days
Somewhat related...If you use Anycut to create a shortcut to IOTHiddenMenu, enter the ##DATA# Menu, edit. Under "Advanced", there is an LTE toggle, under "Other" > "HDR/1X" you can set the phone mode, and then under "Other" > "LTE APN Settings" you can somewhat modify the APN settings, reset and discard. If it asks for a password, it's 000000.
I gave these a try. I'm trying to find a way for my phone to favor 4G when there's a 4G signal, no matter how weak.
Yesterday I did a test, 3G with 3 bars vs 4G with 0 to 1 and 4G had consistently faster download speeds and shorter ping times. The upload varied from similar to 3G to slower.

probably easier said than done. The phone info app can force LTE but you lose voice and text.
Ya I found that out yesterday when testing speeds. I went to send a text then make a call and no luck
Otherwise 4G service where I live could be excellent at one spot then a mile away no service. If I had excellent 4G consistently I'd consider GoSMS which I believe has the option for data text and also a separate VoIP app
Ah well hopefully something will be figured out eventually. With a strong 4G signal 4G is considerably faster and more consistent than my 20mbps home broadband

I've had similar issues with my network. I had no 4G in 4G areas, but mainly my wifi would disconnect randomly and 3G also dropped to 1X a lot. I ended up having to send it back and get another one. So far no issues. Also the new ones have an "Updated" sticker on them. I think it was just a software update they applied, but I never got the OTA on my old phone.

Not sure if anyone will have the same luck I have with the "Phone Info" app, but with it I was able to get my 4g service back and my phone is functioning normally again. Just open the app, select Device Information and scroll down to "Set preferred network type" and select "LTE/CDMA/EvDo" then get out of the app.. 4g should return shortly there after. When I looked at it, my device was set to "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)"
For some reason I cannot get LTE to work at all on CM10. I've done everything and it still wont work at all. I tried reverting back to stock rom, and when I did, LTE worked. So I thought if I went back to CM10 from stock it would resolve the issue, but it did not. I've checked my APNs and I cannot change the preferred network mode and i tried *#*#info#*#* and i can't change anything there to anything that has LTE on it. I'm not sure if it's just a problem with the ROM or what, but I've done plenty of researched, searched all the forums, and can't find anything that will fix.
Additional information:
Im in ATT
I've tried all the radios
and I AM in an LTE area.

Does the problem happen on other ROMs? I'm not saying to use a different ROM, just saying that if it doesn't happen on, say, AOKP or Orthus (both CM-based), it's probably an issue with how CM10 is configured on your phone.

Haha yeah most of the time this setting is overlooked and this option enables you to turn off LTE if you want (which you don't have to have a RAT unlocked modem as presumed) and if you go to *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer you can have it set to LTE only as well.

I have the exact same issues. I've done everything on this post plus done all the research as well. For my problem whenever I enter an LTE area my data service completely drops for about 5 seconds and then when it connects it only shows HSPA+. I have never been able to pick up LTE. When I was on CM9.1 I had no issues at all. LTE connected with no issues. So is this a CM10 issue or a phone issue?
try this, might help, might not, make a backup, if you have more than one apn, remove all apn's except your lte apn(ATT Pta, for rogers :ltemobile), restart phone
edit: of course make sure it was set to the lte apn in the first place, if it was and still have probs, do above procedure if you have more than one apn

Yup. I have HSPA/HSPA+ around my house but close to work I have LTE. No problem with switching or losing data connection when I go from HSPA to LTE. Just double check your APN settings. There might be a typo or some missing field. Or you can create a new APN for lte and use that as your default.

Man,
Whatever I did to my phone after flashing CM 10.1 yesterday has really @$&ed me.
After flashing back to Clean ROM(which I'm not leaving again!) My phone is constantly requesting I switch to “global mode" when I'm in an area with no service.. if I try to switch back to LTE/CDMA it almost immediately prompts me to switch back to global mode.. if I say no, it keeps popping up and asking.
I am also getting a constant roaming notification in the status bar..
This NEVER happened with the K3 build for me before yesterday.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on here?
Muchas Gracias!

I just enabled global mode and have left it on there... It stopped happening. Someone said it wrong effect your bill.
I haven't had the issue since. But I'm still not happy that it is even there!

I have the same issue... in fact, it's the main reason I finally joined the xda board. Yes, as stated here and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061419&highlight=global+pop+up - the pop up can be killed by simply going global... BUT...............
The problem I have is if I keep my network on Global, I'm more prone to lose LTE in New York City and get stuck in 3G, needing to reboot to get back to LTE. The solve was to choose LTE/CDMA in the network settings, but whenever I'm in the subway, here come the Global Network pop-ups.
Both issues have shown up in various forums, support rooms, etc, all over the internet, but I have yet to find a total solution. It's either keep it on Global Mode and deal with losing LTE occasionally or go to LTE/CDMA mode and remember to go to Airplane mode in the subway.
Joy.
My brother-in-law & wife both have iPhone5's and had the same "stuck in 3G" issue in NYC, turning off international mode fixed their issue, but they don't get pop-ups in the subway, of course, that's a "helpful" Samsung add-on.
So there you go. I came to xda because I figured if anyone can figure it out, it's you guys.

Yea..this is a total nightmare... I ended up just sticking with global mode because I got sick of the prompts..I live in a fringe area and couldn't take it anymore. I was getting them every 30 seconds!
If you find the answer. Please share!

I hope someone does. It's really my only complaint about the phone. Seems like there's got to be a way to suppress the phone's urge to want to switch to Global whenever I lose a signal. I'm in NY, every time I go underground!
Yay airplane mode.
sigh.
Is there any additional charge for using Global mode? Does it affect or have anything to do with roaming charges?
This notification popup is the most frustrating thing I've had to deal with on this phone. It's worse than the old wifi popup notification and that was brutal.

I'm not 100% certain yet, but I think this may have been a "power saving" feature. Since adding the 3000mah battery, I turned that off and let it go to global mode. I haven't got stuck in 3G yet.
*fingers crossed*

Has anyone found a solution to this yet?
Happens on the woman's GS3 and my Note 2 as well.
I CAN'T STOP THIS. I don't want to enable Global Mode.
What .apk is causing this, perhaps can be removed? We're rooted.
I just don't know how to figure out what process is running when it pops up.

The solution I posted has worked. Let it go to Global Mode and do not use the Power Saving setting. Then, you don't get the nag when you lose service and it always spends the energy to go back to LTE.
