[Q] Running TomTom on the TG01? - TG01 Themes and Apps

Is there a version of TomTom that runs without GpsGate?
My TomTom does not find the GPS receiver of the TG01, i.e. i need to run GpsGate for TomTom to find a NMEA source.
Is there a TomTom version available that can directly see the built in GPS receiver of the TG01?
thanx!

No, you always need a 3rd-party-app with TT. Serach for GPSModDriver (i recommend 2.60). This prog runs in background, so you don´t have to start it before you use your TT.

i first tried gps mod driver, but this seemed to be some kind of instable (sometimes it worked, sometimes not). so i switched to gpsgate, which seems to work well.
as gpsgate is always running in background, i suspect that it keeps the gps receiver running even when the TG01 is in stand-by, and this might be a reason for the battery to discharge that fast. therefore, i would like to get rid of this intermediate tool.
is there no way to directly access the gps receiver from tomtom?
how can i see if the gps receiver is running and if it is powered down when the TG01 is in stand-by?
thanx!

Use iGO instead

TomTom simply doesn't support the TG01's internal GPS receiver without third party software.
Needless to say I ended up switching to iGO Primo which does support the internal GPS receiver on the TG01 when you insert the attached INI file into the Primo's DATA.ZIP file.

fitzy-boy

i've got NDrive with my TG01, i.e. this looks like an alternative to TT. but unfortunately, this does not read TT POI.
as i need to use TT POI, i think there is no alternative for TT

Use Gpsplex with TomTom- it works well and is free

my main reason to get rid of gpsgate was power consumption.
it looks like as long as gpsgate is running, the gps receiver of the TG01 is running, and the battery discharges very quick. besides this, gpsgate works fine.
i suspect that using gpsplex won't help, as this will keep the gps receiver on permanently too. i.e. the only way to go seems to start gpsgate (or gpsplex) before tomtom - and after using tomtom, the gpsgate (or gpsplex) has to be killed.

This problem has been already solved properly, in my opinion.
I don't know if you examinated the Mortscript route. Anyway...
I made a script (as many others did) that does this:
when tapping on script
-turn on GpsGate
-turn on Tomtom and wait
-when Tomtom exit close GpsGate
So, this way, the use of GpsGate is totally transparent and it consumes battery just as any other navigator does.
For me it's even better than running a navigator that turns on GPS by itself, because my PDA when in car profile and externally powered turns on GpsGate automatically. In this way whenever I need Tomtom I can turn it on and have instant fix.
If you know about this, than I have no other solution, while if you are interested I can give you more details (and the script, of course)
my 2 cents

hey, that's great!
that's what i first thought about, but i didn't think that i would be able to start and kill gpsgate from a script!
(i haven't used mortscript for years, but i think i still have it somewhere)
so it would be great if you could post the script!
thank you vey much!!

ok, this is the script:
if ( NOT ProcExists("GpsGateCE.exe") )
GGOff=0
Run( "\Programmi\GpsGate 2.0\GpsGateCE.exe" )
else
GGOff=1
endif
RunWait( "\Storage Card\Programmi\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe" )
Sleep( 1000 )
if ( ProcExists("GpsGateCE.exe") AND ( GGOff=0 ) )
Run( "\Programmi\GpsGate 2.0\GpsGateCE.exe" )
Sleep( 200 )
SendUp
Sleep( 200 )
SendCR
else
endif
Some explanation.
If GpsGate it is NOT already running it will be closed after Tomtom. If it is already running it will be leaved on because if I am in the car when I've finished with the navigator I still want GpsGate locked on satellites while I am driving.
This is just to let you quickly deal with the Tomtom problem. So, please, modify the script to better meet your needs.
It's very late for me now, and this weekend it's unlikely that I came back to the forum. So sorry for the short response but I have many more things to say on this. The script can be optimized, for example. And I would also tell you more about commands SendUp and SendCR.
Please, came back in this thread. I'll find time to give you more usefull informations. In the meantime begin to test your script and ask for difficulties you could encounter.
Cheers
P.S.
Please, remember to localize the path of your applications!!!

thanx very much!
i think this is exactly what i need, and i'm quite sure that i'll be able to adapt this for my needs
as i'm away now for 1 week, i will wait to check this out until i'm back.
i think there's no need for futher explanations. if i can't get it to work, i'll just ask again
thank you very much!

TOMTOM 5 LOCK UP USING BT GPS

Don't know if anyone else here has tried this workaround at all?
Using the remove programs in settings or activesync, remove Tomtom Bluetooth GPS Support (or whatever it's called).
Instead of setting up TT5 to use "Other Bluetooth GPS", set it up to use "Other Cable NMEA GPS".
Set the GPS Baud rate to 9600 or 19200 (both work fine for me).
Then set the COM port to "Bluetooth Serial Port COM6:" (or whatever your outgoing port number is for your BT GPS device.
The only downside is that you have to turn BT on manually before you start TT5 but it doesn't disconnect BT when it exits.
Used this setting on 3 different roads which lately caused me no end of lock-ups and not once has it happened. I think the problem is with Tomtoms bluetooth support drivers, constant problems with them since TT3.
I've only used this for 3 days and 400 miles but everything seems to be fine up to now, including traffic...........we'll see.
TT5
Did your TT5 load onto the XDA with no problems?
I have an XDA IIi and it loaded on no problems at all.
I have an XDA IIi and it loaded on no problems at all.
Great suggestion. I was getting really fed-up with TT5 and about to give up on it. Just back from France/Switzerland where it kept freezing, useless.
Simply uninstalled the TT GPS Support as suggested and used the existing BT Partnership with the TT Receiver and hey presto ... TT running smoothly again, shame I'm back in the UK on roads I know!
Does not work for me. But well worth a try.
This is doing my head in now £200 worth of TomTom software and dongle and unusable with the phone on!
arh help please
I have a problem with my XDA11 whilst trying to upgrade my navigator 3 software to navigator 5......
After I load the main program upgrade and then try to install the map disc one my pc ( desk top XP Profesional os ) it come up with tempory folder full, does'nt say if it it the pc or the xda11.
I have gone into all the temp folders on the pc and emptied them and it had not resolved the problem and I cant find any in the search function on the XDA
Any ideas??
Its a genuine copy of the Tom Tom software as well and there are no contact details on there sites including e-mail links
Regards Lee
there are known issues with Bluetooth device support using TomTom5, i was advised to use the 'Other Cable NMEA GPS' option when connecting a non TomTom bluetooth GPS unit.
also, i connected at the baud rate recommended by the manufacturer which i think was 9600, this worked fine without removing any parts of the software but meant manual switch off of Bluetooth in my MDA after use.
in addition to this, the Bluetooth connection issues with non TomTom GPS units should be resolved in the 5.10 upgrade, just installed it and re-paired an MDA3 to the Globalsat GPS receiver...it now auto switches off Bluetooth after use and the connection can be made using 'Other Bluetooth Receiver'.
another bonus of the 5.10 update is the keyboard shows on the display without having to use the hardware keyboard on the MDA...lovely.

answer to last question about free memory during install problem can be found here:

Thanks for the link dont know how I missed that....
Only problem now is when I tap Start etc there is no Run command to enter the %......% command line
I tried the search in explorer option with no results any ideas?
Sorry I'm not the brightest lamp on the planet
you are tapping Start on your PC right?
maybe the 'Run' command has been disabled or does not appear in your Start menu because it's been disabled.
are you the Administrator of your PC? are you running XP?
you may have to go into 'Control Panel', 'Taskbar and Start Menu', Start Menu tab and choose 'Classic Start menu'
trying to cover as many bases here so you can make some headway without too much back an forth as i'm signing off now....if you can get to the 'Run' command on your PC then you'll be able to solve the problem and proceed with the fix from the TomTom site.
good luck.
I have had so much trouble with satnav on pda's, especially with bluetooth that although I have xda 1 with wired gps and spv M1000 with bluetooth gps I have just boght a Mitac Mio 269 dedicated gps system. It has a 2.5 gb hard drive, 500 megs for mp3, the whole of europe, which is millions of miles, preinstalled on the system. Comes with remote and different mounts and has sd card expansion. Obviously it isnt any good for phone calls or word processing etc but it gives me peace of mind when travelling as I have zero sense of direction and very little patience. I still leave my other gps in the car though, as a backup.

Many thanks I told you I wasn't to bright you hit the nail on the head with the ( PC comment ) I was looking for the run command on the XDA11...
deleted the exe and evrything is loading up as we speak....
thanks again for your patientence....
Crusin-thru' I can see why you have gone your route its a lot less trouble I just use mine now as a back up phone because I spend a lot of time away from home and just simply use a Nokia 6680 on 3G.....
Also since I stopped using the XDA11 as a phone the pda doesn't keep resetting itself every ten minutes like it did!!
cash_13,
it happens to the best of us...had to think about it myself, instructions on the TomTom site could have been more specific saving many people a lot of time...but you dont always realise this until you have to follow the instructions yourself....glad you got it sorted now.

Bluetooth GPS works once before failing

I have just got a Wizard off ebay running WM6 which has TomTom6 installed. I have a generic bluetooth GPS receiver which works fine the first time I use it after pairing, but then as soon as the device is turned off via the softoff switch, it is not seen again. I have to remove the Bluetooth connection and port, then re-add it all. Once I repeat the process, it works find again until the next time it is turned off.
I have tried this with 2 different bluetooth gps units, both of which work fine for my friends so I suspect it is something wrong with either the Wizard or a setting somewhere.
I am new to all this so dont know what information I should post to help get advice but can provide any info you guys need.
Can anyone offer me and suggestions or pointers ?
after wake up, launch tomtom, but leave it for say 20 secs it should eventually pick it up, it just takes time
Hello,
I have the same problem.
GPS pairing + COM config OK.
Then I start TOMTOM 6 and all is working fine.
Now if I switch off my GPS, and leave Tomtom, then switch on my GPS and start TOMTOM, I have a message telling me my GPS wants to connect to my wizard. So I must redo the pairing (code 0000) + the com port configuration.
I have this problem since WM6 (I tried mUn, XPlore 1.0, 1.1, Core 2.0x, and now i'm with XM6).
No problem under WM5.
GPS is XLock256 (sold by Orange in France).
Anybody know what is happening ?
Thanks.
TomTom
Install TomTom, or if it's installed all is ok.
unpair your GPS unit.
Reset the GPS unit with the power button (normally by holding it)
Now Pair the GPS Device.
go to com Ports, and add a outgoing Port (Whatever port is available, me somehow I'm hooked to 7)
Now start TomTom
go to settings, GPS Config and choose other Bluetooth GPS (now wait)
Switch of and on again your GPS receiver, because it could be in a powersave mode, but still do it.
Choose your chosen port (me as said 7)
.......patience, now it should connect
Now it should be ok.
Play with it for a while, and close the app in it's specified way.
Now it should start as normal.
If you follow these instructions to the letter it works.
I don't see what I missed before, but apllying your procedure solved the problem.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Normally it's the Auto Powersave which causes the problems, 1 year ago it took me 6 weeks to figure this out.
I'm having the exact same problem since upgrading to WM6 and despite following these instructions numerous times, every time I relaunch TomTom I get a prompt asking if I want to pair my GPS. If I select no, I get prompetd about every 5 seconds until I select yes at which point my existing pairing is deleted and a new one created. This pairing then lasts for the current TomTom session but the cycle restarts all over again when I relaunch TomTom and turn on my GPS again.
WM5 was completely flawless with the way it handled my GPS connection so what is different that is causing this behaviour?

Followed your procedure, got the connection set. Thanks loads, I was tearing my hair out. lj

Nav N Go iGO 8 on the Universal

Has anyone tried to use Nav N Go iGO 8 on the Universal. It installs Ok but when I try to connect to my Holux Satnav unit, it cannot find it. I scans all the ports, including the one I usualy use, but does not see it. TomTom 6 & Memory Map both find the Holux so I know it is Ok. Anyone have any ideas.
thank YOU very much
You much pair your B/T GPS device first and set outgoing port.
I have done that & set an outgoing port which the other programmes see ok
Also remember to manually turn BT on before running iGO8.
Unlike TomTom, iGo8 doesn't automatically turn BT on.
I deleted the pairing with the Holux & redid it & it works fine now. Thanks for the advice.
it works ok but after a few minutes using it, out of memory occurs...i'm still sticking to garmin..

I have found I have the same problem, plus the routing is a bit strange compared to my TomTom 6 so I will stick with TomTom.
I have iGO 8 running on my Qtek...it runs fine, no out of memory msg but I have to say that I run Mo3ulla WM6 vanilla Rom which has after softreset 30,5MB of prog mem free...
While running iGO I have around 4,5mb prog mem over. I also overclock my Qtek while on iGO, runs 10x smoother than TT6. The 3D buildings I switched off, all the rest I leave "on". About the "strange" routing I have not seen a big difference compared to TT6.
The only reason I have TT6 stil on my PDA is that from time to time I forget the iGO8 memory card...

TomTom Navigator 6.032(8351)... Not Working on TP

I installed TomTom from my old Artemis to my new TP. The installation went OK but when I run the application it didn't find the GPS device???
I am sure that the TP has built in GPS so I went into the 'Preferences' to make sure the correct GPS device was configured only to find that there is no option to select an internal GPS device???
Is there some major difference between the GPS device in the TP when compared to an Artemis??? Has anyone else had this problem???
I use my TomTom everyday so this is a major problem for me. if I can't get it to run on the TP i'll be going back to my Artemis and sending the TP back!
Any help would be appreciated.
Hiya,
I've just got Tomtom 6.010 working on my Touch Pro.
I had to configure it as 'Other NMEA receiver' - GPS baud rate 9600 - COM4.
That did the trick for me.
I did have to use the GPS tweaks here to make it work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
Before these tweaks I left it outside for 45mins and although it could see satellites it never obtained a GPS fix, with the tweaks it takes 20-30 seconds.
Hope that helps.
D.
Why 6?!? Navigator 7 automatically detects the internal GPS, It looks better, It has more functions, You can use newer maps & There's a VGA version.
Thanks very much dav3ywrx...
I did as you suggested and followed the thread and it now works fine.
I will upgrade to version 7 once my 8GB card arrives because the v7 maps are huge!!!
Anyway thanks again for the help

lg incite internal gps

i have been trying to use tomtom with lg ct810 incite. however no luck getting it to connect to internal gps. or any other program for that fact. does at&t lock gps to navigator somehome. any help would be appreciated
any help??
Without having the device (which almost noone here has), it's very difficult to help without a proper rom dump. With a rom dump help can be given.
If you're interested in dumping the rom and posting, here's info on how to do so:

Navigation Software for the Incite.
I have not tried TOM-TOM but i have GarminXT5.0.20w woking while reading the internal GPS on it's own and I have Nav-N-Go's iGO8 working using Franson's GpsGate as a gateway between the internal GPS and the software.
and google maps tool "Locate Me" works fine on it's own with the internal GPS. NEVER change anything under "Start-Settings-System-External GPS"; that is unless you are trying to connect to any GPS other than the internal. I got the Garmin working on second install and it took 2 months for me to get a good version of iGO8 that wasn't laggy on my incite. It can't be too difficult since this is the first phone I ever owned that has an actual operating system.
Look here
Check out this thread in tha ATT wireless forum, and then find a copy of gps gate.

Hi, I have a problem with Igo 8 on my LG Incite. It works fine for me when the phone is plugged in. When the phone is not plugged in, Igo8 doesn't respond to any touches. The screen goes black every time I run Igo8.
Could you share your experience with Igo8. I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
I have the same problem with Igo8 on my LG incite?
haha20055, did you find the solution yet?
13blackwolf13, Can you give any hint?
Thanks
I own an Incite, subsidized from AT&T. The internal GPS works fine with Google Maps, as well as a geocaching program called WMMiniGPS.
I would like to use the GPS with Streets and Trips loaded on my laptop, but GPSgate on the PPC will not find my GPS port. I have version 2.5 of GPSgate, but it cannot detect anything.
I've read that other users have gotten GPSgate to work on the Incite. Am I missing something? Anyone know what COM port the GPS is on?
Nevermind. I forget to set the GPS to a virtual port through the control panel. It works fine now.
LG Incite GPS problem solved!
I got it working as well but only thanks to GPSGate. It took me some time to find a working serial for it but now it works like a charm. Google Maps works without it for some reason bypassing the GPS receiver lock. iGO8 was a little buggy first but the 14th version I installed worked ok finally It took me about a week to get everything set up.
In the end, I got them all working so if anyone is still having problems they can contact me and I will give them the solution good to go.
On the other hand, does anyone know if I can find a better ROM version? The original one is ok but a little sluggish right out of the box. Thanks

i got gpsgate to work. does gpsgate use data on the start up because sometimes when i start gpsgate i see the data icon on the signal bar trying to connect. it connect a few a seconds with a G or a E on the signal bar than disappears. does that mean that gpsgate use data on the start up. i use stop data from lg incite forum and i know that i can not connect to medianet but when i start up gpsgate it looks like its connecting or connects because i get the G or the E on the signal bar. so any help will be appreciated

LG Incite CT 810 with IGO8
Hi Dismass,
Can you show me how to set Port, Baud to make LG work with IGO8
Thanks so much
If you are using GPSGate you can do it from the settings of GPSGate. Mine automatically created virtual COM2 and iGO found it instantly. If yours didn't do that automatically go to settings and create a new virtual port, it's fairly user-friendly so you shouldn't have problems doing that. After that it is just a matter of starting iGO and pointing it to the port you created, baud rate doesn't seem to make any difference on mine btw. Let me know if you are still having problems after that.

GPSGate does not use a data connection, it just grabs the data coming from the gps receiver and sends it to a virtual port that it creates for other software to use simultaneously. The icons you see indicate the availability and signal strength of certain networks (EDGE, GPRS, etc.) although they've been kinda unreliable on mine so I stopped looking at those pretty soon after I got my phone.
