I installed TomTom from my old Artemis to my new TP. The installation went OK but when I run the application it didn't find the GPS device???
I am sure that the TP has built in GPS so I went into the 'Preferences' to make sure the correct GPS device was configured only to find that there is no option to select an internal GPS device???
Is there some major difference between the GPS device in the TP when compared to an Artemis??? Has anyone else had this problem???
I use my TomTom everyday so this is a major problem for me. if I can't get it to run on the TP i'll be going back to my Artemis and sending the TP back!
Any help would be appreciated.
Hiya,
I've just got Tomtom 6.010 working on my Touch Pro.
I had to configure it as 'Other NMEA receiver' - GPS baud rate 9600 - COM4.
That did the trick for me.
I did have to use the GPS tweaks here to make it work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
Before these tweaks I left it outside for 45mins and although it could see satellites it never obtained a GPS fix, with the tweaks it takes 20-30 seconds.
Hope that helps.

Why 6?!? Navigator 7 automatically detects the internal GPS, It looks better, It has more functions, You can use newer maps & There's a VGA version.
Thanks very much dav3ywrx...
I did as you suggested and followed the thread and it now works fine.
I will upgrade to version 7 once my 8GB card arrives because the v7 maps are huge!!!
Anyway thanks again for the help

Had to send my early XDA11 back to O2 for repair and it came back empty and they upgraded the ROM(?) Re-installed Tom tom loads so slowly its unusable. Memory map navigator loads ok but takes 5 seconds to react to a screentap. Also, it can bond with Holux bluetooth GPS but cant see it in Tom tom wizard. It all worked fine before they got their hands on it.
This sounds to me like you have the wrong com port chosen for your gps. Remove bonds for any bluetooth, reset, then rebond the gps, it should ask if you wish to use the serial profile for the device, answer yes to this. I think gps should then be on com5.
Thanks for your help
Thanks for that. When I get to select serial profile I only get Com 7 offered. Com7 is not offered in Tom tom GPS setup. Previously I had "Holux on Com4" as a choice. I have no Bluetooth manager program as on the Ipaq but I have loaded BTHTools1100 from April04. Can I check Com port status somehow? Maybe old stuff is assigned to the serial port I need?
We have lift-off!
Unticked Com 4 as incoming Bluetooth port in Bluetooth settings. Now have "Hollux 230 on Com 7" as an option in tom tom GPS setup.
KeithR: IF your on ROM version 1.72 now, you better skip the BTH Tools.
Un-install them or do a hard-reset (yes, once more).
Just bond the GPS, select YES to create a com port.
The GPS will then communicate thru COM5
Assign COM5 in TomTom (and one of the NMEA protocols).
It will work then as expected.
BUT: Since you have a Holux GPS you miight encounbter the same slowness when starting TomTom and the GPS is not 'connected'(ie off or out-of-reach). This is an issue specifically for the combination Himalaya (or MS BT Stackin the ROM) and (some?) Holux and D-Connex BT GPS's.
It seems that this last issue is solved in WM2003 SE, but that seems less stable to me . . .
Thanks all
Now its running ok I'm going to leave it alone. (I doubt.) I'm tempted to get an XDAIIs to use with broadband and VPN at home but the MDAIII seems much cheaper. Thanks again, I'll check this site for info on it.
Don't know if anyone else here has tried this workaround at all?
Using the remove programs in settings or activesync, remove Tomtom Bluetooth GPS Support (or whatever it's called).
Instead of setting up TT5 to use "Other Bluetooth GPS", set it up to use "Other Cable NMEA GPS".
Set the GPS Baud rate to 9600 or 19200 (both work fine for me).
Then set the COM port to "Bluetooth Serial Port COM6:" (or whatever your outgoing port number is for your BT GPS device.
The only downside is that you have to turn BT on manually before you start TT5 but it doesn't disconnect BT when it exits.
Used this setting on 3 different roads which lately caused me no end of lock-ups and not once has it happened. I think the problem is with Tomtoms bluetooth support drivers, constant problems with them since TT3.
I've only used this for 3 days and 400 miles but everything seems to be fine up to now, including traffic...........we'll see.
TT5
Did your TT5 load onto the XDA with no problems?
I have an XDA IIi and it loaded on no problems at all.
I have an XDA IIi and it loaded on no problems at all.
Great suggestion. I was getting really fed-up with TT5 and about to give up on it. Just back from France/Switzerland where it kept freezing, useless.
Simply uninstalled the TT GPS Support as suggested and used the existing BT Partnership with the TT Receiver and hey presto ... TT running smoothly again, shame I'm back in the UK on roads I know!
Does not work for me. But well worth a try.
This is doing my head in now £200 worth of TomTom software and dongle and unusable with the phone on!
arh help please
I have a problem with my XDA11 whilst trying to upgrade my navigator 3 software to navigator 5......
After I load the main program upgrade and then try to install the map disc one my pc ( desk top XP Profesional os ) it come up with tempory folder full, does'nt say if it it the pc or the xda11.
I have gone into all the temp folders on the pc and emptied them and it had not resolved the problem and I cant find any in the search function on the XDA
Any ideas??
Its a genuine copy of the Tom Tom software as well and there are no contact details on there sites including e-mail links
Regards Lee
there are known issues with Bluetooth device support using TomTom5, i was advised to use the 'Other Cable NMEA GPS' option when connecting a non TomTom bluetooth GPS unit.
also, i connected at the baud rate recommended by the manufacturer which i think was 9600, this worked fine without removing any parts of the software but meant manual switch off of Bluetooth in my MDA after use.
in addition to this, the Bluetooth connection issues with non TomTom GPS units should be resolved in the 5.10 upgrade, just installed it and re-paired an MDA3 to the Globalsat GPS receiver...it now auto switches off Bluetooth after use and the connection can be made using 'Other Bluetooth Receiver'.
another bonus of the 5.10 update is the keyboard shows on the display without having to use the hardware keyboard on the MDA...lovely.

Thanks for the link dont know how I missed that....
Only problem now is when I tap Start etc there is no Run command to enter the %......% command line
I tried the search in explorer option with no results any ideas?
Sorry I'm not the brightest lamp on the planet
you are tapping Start on your PC right?
maybe the 'Run' command has been disabled or does not appear in your Start menu because it's been disabled.
are you the Administrator of your PC? are you running XP?
you may have to go into 'Control Panel', 'Taskbar and Start Menu', Start Menu tab and choose 'Classic Start menu'
trying to cover as many bases here so you can make some headway without too much back an forth as i'm signing off now....if you can get to the 'Run' command on your PC then you'll be able to solve the problem and proceed with the fix from the TomTom site.
good luck.
I have had so much trouble with satnav on pda's, especially with bluetooth that although I have xda 1 with wired gps and spv M1000 with bluetooth gps I have just boght a Mitac Mio 269 dedicated gps system. It has a 2.5 gb hard drive, 500 megs for mp3, the whole of europe, which is millions of miles, preinstalled on the system. Comes with remote and different mounts and has sd card expansion. Obviously it isnt any good for phone calls or word processing etc but it gives me peace of mind when travelling as I have zero sense of direction and very little patience. I still leave my other gps in the car though, as a backup.

Many thanks I told you I wasn't to bright you hit the nail on the head with the ( PC comment ) I was looking for the run command on the XDA11...
deleted the exe and evrything is loading up as we speak....
thanks again for your patientence....
Crusin-thru' I can see why you have gone your route its a lot less trouble I just use mine now as a back up phone because I spend a lot of time away from home and just simply use a Nokia 6680 on 3G.....
Also since I stopped using the XDA11 as a phone the pda doesn't keep resetting itself every ten minutes like it did!!
cash_13,
it happens to the best of us...had to think about it myself, instructions on the TomTom site could have been more specific saving many people a lot of time...but you dont always realise this until you have to follow the instructions yourself....glad you got it sorted now.
It works, but same problem as with TomTom, no keys - only fake cursor
What version are you using? After trying a few of the 'trial' versions out on the Net, I finally plunked down the cold hard cash for the retail version. After installing and then installing the update from Route 66's website, it works great with the d-pad and softkeys. I'm on version 7.0.3995 and it's by far the best Smartphone-compatible nav software I've tried. It doesn't support landscape though, and their support people couldn't tell me if a landscape version is in the works or not.
Also, if you're trying to pan the map via the d-pad, that doesn't work on any version of R66 for the Smartphone. The only way to pan is to navigate around current GPS location without setting a destination. Rather limited in my opinion, but R66 support also said they had no plans on changing that functionality.
I have just copied files from CAB to phone and made shortcut, i am using PDA version 7.0.970.1 There are only 2 files: /programm files/route 66/R66Navigate7PPC.exe and /windows/R66WCESetupDLL.dll
R66 7 smartphone
Hi,
i'm running a R66mobile7 build 7.0.2992 and works perfectly.... no need to use a ppc version
just got R66 mobile7 same build 7.0.2992 and yes, it works fine with numpad.
but i can not find configuration for GPS how to connect it with BT GPS wich is on COM7 ?
at programm startup it just shows that GPS not found.
did you add bluetooth serial port after pairing gps device ??
I got ir working. Started TomTom, connected to BT GPS, started R66, and in strange way it connected to BT GPS, closed TomTom and R66 still working. And now it work every time, even without tomtom
very strange way... i only need to launch the program to make it work....
quits
MY Route 66 crashes just after i have selected the map

Hi guys,
Recently I bought Imate 8502. Everything works fine. I have installed tomtom 6.01 for wm6 (which works fine on my other htc p3600i)
Now problem in in Imate 8502 when i go in to the settings>External GPS>Hardware... it shows me "gps Hardware port "(none)". If I select any port and press ok and open it again, again it shows "(none)" in gps hardware port. So whts wrong with that.
Also tomtom is not working in Imate 8502. in tomtom software setting doesn't show gps port.(like in htc p3600i gps settings shows that gps in com9). I tried too much to solve this problem but got failure and failure. So I am asking help from any expert here.
Please help me.. I want to run GPS software in Imate 8502
Thanks in advance
1. u need to turn on gps manually
2. u need GPSgate
Thanks
Thanks netnerd,
well i turned it on manually as well but same things happens ?
by the way how does gpsgate will help in this problem? I have no idea of this software.. Though i have downloaded demo but I am not getting this software
thanks bro !!
waiting for your reply
tomtom cant see your build-in gps port
GPSgate will make a virtual gps comm port that gps programs able to see
Need Some knowledge
Dear Chintak i also have an 8502 but still serching for upgrade as u said u upgraded it with tomtom it realy works and how is the procedure to upgrade
will appriciate help .
hi ayesha,
I didn't upgraded anything in imate, I just installed tomtom for ppc.
but tomtom can't read gps port so m looking for another option
OK - hope this helps some....
I have the I-mate 8502, and TomTom 6 running fine.
Things I did:
- Installed TomTom...
- Went to Wireless Manager and enabled GPS. These are my GPS settings by tab (can get to them via Wireless Manager):
>Programs: GPS program port - COM9 (default setting
>Hardware: No GPS port specifed (not needed) and baud rate 4800 (again not needed) - these are default settings
>Access: Manage GPS automatically is checked (again default)
The only setup in TomTom was to set the GPS device to the IMEA option.
TomTom should see the device, but display a message that no gps satellites found or it searching. It usually takes a couple of minutes for the GPS to pass through satellite information to TomTom first time but it then works great.
Running the Telstra WM6 Rom
I followed Rathalian's instructions and it worked perfectly for me too.
I did have to select COM9 as the COM Port of the GPS device in Tom Tom Configuration.
I am also using a Telstra WM6 ROM.
Thanks everybody its working now thank you very much everyone
i-mate 8502: Anybody sells display or phone? /alguién vende pantalla o teléfono?
Good afternoon, folks
I was relatively happy with my i-mate ultimate 8502 till I dropped it and the display broke.
As I'm against buying new stuff if you can at a reasonable price fix something, I'm asking:
is anybody willing to sell almost altrusistically a display or even the whole phone? We could do it through the normal channels (paypal, google, ebay, whatever). Or in person, I'me based in Spain.
Warm regards,
Manuel
Has anyone tried to use Nav N Go iGO 8 on the Universal. It installs Ok but when I try to connect to my Holux Satnav unit, it cannot find it. I scans all the ports, including the one I usualy use, but does not see it. TomTom 6 & Memory Map both find the Holux so I know it is Ok. Anyone have any ideas.
thank YOU very much
You much pair your B/T GPS device first and set outgoing port.
I have done that & set an outgoing port which the other programmes see ok
Also remember to manually turn BT on before running iGO8.
Unlike TomTom, iGo8 doesn't automatically turn BT on.
I deleted the pairing with the Holux & redid it & it works fine now. Thanks for the advice.
it works ok but after a few minutes using it, out of memory occurs...i'm still sticking to garmin..

I have found I have the same problem, plus the routing is a bit strange compared to my TomTom 6 so I will stick with TomTom.
I have iGO 8 running on my Qtek...it runs fine, no out of memory msg but I have to say that I run Mo3ulla WM6 vanilla Rom which has after softreset 30,5MB of prog mem free...
While running iGO I have around 4,5mb prog mem over. I also overclock my Qtek while on iGO, runs 10x smoother than TT6. The 3D buildings I switched off, all the rest I leave "on". About the "strange" routing I have not seen a big difference compared to TT6.
The only reason I have TT6 stil on my PDA is that from time to time I forget the iGO8 memory card...
