I tried flashing Cognition 2.1.6 over Cognition 2.1.5 with the HSUPA kernel and while performing the update, it failed and said it couldn't mount "/data/!" and also saying that "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File Exists)"
I tried rebooting and now it just keeps throwing me back in recovery mode (standard not clockwork), I tried all button combinations (holding volume up and down, holding volume up, holding volume down) and plugging in the USB after removing the battery and it won't boot into download mode no matter what; all it does it just boot into recovery again but it's not recognized by Odin.
I'm lost for ideas, I can get Odin3 to look at it after I reboot it from recovery (but not in download mode) but when I click "Start" in Odin, all it does it just sit there at "File Analysis..."
Any ideas?
did your button combinations work before?

i made a mistake while flashing a rom, then i tried to boot into recovery again but i cant, i even used odin to flash the recovery again. still no luck. anyone has any suggestion?
Do you even know how to boot into cwm?

try this
try to force the download mode by :
1) remove the battery
2) hold down the volume down button
3) plug usb
4) put battery back
5) wait till you see the download mode screen
6) use odin to restore your original kernel/modem/firmware
Odin back to stock rom with stock recovery.. Then flash cwm over stock one
Just to make sure you are holding power and both volume buttons and letting go of power after logo screen

flashing a rom doesnt muck up recovery, power down phone, no usb cable plugged in, hold down both volume buttons +-, then hold power button until first logo screen appears, let go of power button while still holding down both volume buttons +- for 1 or 2 more sec, then release volume keys

u have to do a new Odin ROM install or do a recovery install again.
until the looping boot exists u'll never get in CWM or Download mode.
keep tryin'
OK, I have a GS3 here with a broken power button, which was causing all kinds of problems when the phone was running, and making it impossible for me to boot into recovery. I've physically removed the power button from the motherboard, and now I can boot the phone by holding volume down + home while plugging the phone into USB power. That gets me to Download mode, where I could just reboot to my ROM.
So that was fine, but I just made a booboo and when I was in recovery flashing a new ROM, I wiped Data instead of Dalvik, so now I have no ROM installed. I therefore have no way to reboot into recovery to fix the problem, the only thing I can boot to is Download mode.
So, is there a way to get to recovery mode from download mode? Some command in Odin or something? If not, I can still use Odin to flash it back to stock (pre-ML1 bootloader of course), re-root, flash a recovery, etc. but I'd rather avoid that if possible.
Answering my own question...
You can do this by booting in download mode (hold home and volume down while plugging in USB), then once you're in download mode, reboot (hit volume down button) and instantly hold down volume up and home. That gets you into recovery.
When I hold the -vol and power on my 8013, instead of entering the recovery image, the tablet enters the Odin mode. And my 4.3 ROM quit booting. Is there a way to flash a ROM via Odin?

I solved my own problem, but I'm really disappointed by the lack of response I got from this forum. For any one else who runs into the problem, I apparently had an incompatible recovery image installed. I flashed the TWRP image and now when I hold vol up and power on, it enters the recovery image and I'm able to flash .zip files. I mistakenly thought the combination was vol down and power on, when, in fact, that is apparently supposed to be for the "download" mode.
I've formatted the tab using latest twrp recovery after that I did a restart using recovery and it was taking long to boot back to recovery and force restarted it by holding power button.
Now I can't boot to reocovery or download mode by holding volume down + power button & up + power, it does boot into the usual Galaxy tab logo and then nothing.
If i hold the power button to long it's just boot back again to the tab logo.
When I put the charger to the device it just stuck on the battery logo.
I've also removed the back part and removed battery and tried again, But still same...
Also tried to flash the odin when it's stuck on galaxy logo, odin does recognize the connection but can't flash anything!
Is there any other way to boot back to download mode????
EDIT :
I did removed the back part of the tab to remove battery and try inserting, but still I was not able to boot to download or either recovery mode by hold power + volume buttons.
I think maybe the power button or the volume button has some issue that's why it was not able to boot into recovery/download mode.
After that I've drained the device battery and reconnected it to device charger and it automatically booted into download mode.
And flashed the stock rom then switched to a custom rom!
Problem solved for now, I'll update the thread later!
