Danish folk test 2.2 for Vibrant - Captivate General

http://translate.google.com/transla...-android-22-rykker-for-vildt,lid.12790/&twu=1
Perhaps a sign that Froyo isn't so far away after all? Maybe Froyo is when we're getting our GPS fix, too, in a bundle?

That's talking about the bell vibrant... which is identical to the I9000

Ah, is it? My bad, then.

Nah not your fault, an easy mistake to make... Samsung is backwards using all these different names =P

Maybe Gingerbread surprise for those who wait

Maybe with the "Nexus S" coming soon with gingerbread, samsung will skip froyo and get all galaxy s phones running the newest version first. That would be a nice end of year present. Any thoughts? Just tossing out a hope beyond hopes. Lol

I disagree.

No .
It`s taking a long time to getting froyo in the states as it is .
I believe I read that Samsung already released froyo to the carriers and the carriers are what's holding it back.
The Fragmentation will get worse and worse until Google fixes it, or Android implodes.
Very simple.
Imagine if you bought a new computer, and you were stuck on Windows XP all the way until now... when you were finally granted access to Vista.

It is pretty clear that Google has it under wraps - most manufacturers don't even have the specs. So the likelyhood of our phone getting it when the specs have not been made public and no one else has it is zero.

Yeah, fragmentation is bad. Want to hear about some fragmentation? The chrysler 300 is available in 9 trim levels, awd and rwd, with 4 different engines! Holy fragmentation batman .

No freaking way they will do that. Samsung is in the business to make money, updating existing devices mean less people will buy their new phones. Count yourself lucky when you get Froyo.
and maybe a unicorn will fly out of my ass.
sorry for the sarcasm.....but whats the point of pure speculation?

Changed to what it should have read.
not gonna happen
the way I see it, the Nexus S wont be terribly dissimilar to the current SGS series of handsets (from a hardware platform). Google wont buy into this "oh we'll get around to it" bull**** of source releases (they can't, it will be their lead dev platform).
So even if Samsung/AT&T continue to be ****house at releasing fw for the Captivate, it wont matter as much as it does now, because we will have source for a lot more stuff.

I really think with the remote possibility of similar hardware or at worst case scenario Samsung went with a dual core I think that they will use as much of the existing code as possible.... (It appears as if they may be alittle lazy in the coding dept. I've been trying to tinker with the i9000 headset issue and the difference seems to be alot of code added to the Captivate so that the headset hardware in the US worked like every other phone out there instead of the lazy way that Samsung first implemented it)
And if they are as lazy as above, we should have something that may be easier to port.... or at least somewhat easier to port. Especially with the progress that the CM6.1 SGS team is making as well with ditching the rfs system.... We'll get it soon enough.... not as fast as N1s, but fairly fast.

Isn't RFS dead if you use a ext4/voodoo based kernel anyway? Dead as in, the phone can read ext4, we can just partition everything as ext4 and move along, nothing to see here.
zero likelyhood of gingerbread this year

Not sure I'd get the Aria, did it upgrade to 2.2 yet? It's also weaker and smaller than the Captivate. But I definitely agree, after seeing the speed of update and the GPS debacle.. not sure I'll get another Samsung handset again.
With AT&T though... there isn't exactly a wide range of selections.
EDIT: Them Windows 7 Mobile phones sure look tempting.. even then, I'd be eyeing the Samsung Focus.. -_-

Glad our Captivates were not designed like this...

That will result in fewer sales on a small percentage of users! Probably enough to make even DEV's not want to even jack with it.

They did jack with it and it's now permanent rootable along with the mt4g. People like to be challenged.
From a phone
It will eventually come to all but the nexus series of phones and the geeksphone, and the XDA community will find a way to disable that chip in time.
Why post an article that holds no weight to our phone? And that phone is rooted already.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
If the phone reverts to the original software, how are they ever going to do updates?
I have a feeling that there is a way to make permanent changes. It will just take time for someone to figure it how their updates work.

OP must be living under a rock.

FYI on warranty

Alright, here's a little background of what happened.
My USB port on my phone is loose. Any data cable I try just kind of pops out eventually and feels very loose.
I went in to ATT to see what they could do for me and they decided to warranty the phone.
When they called in to the service center, they said I needed the new Froyo update. With out the update they couldn't do anything for me.
I thought this was rather strange but I thought I would let all other users know of this update in case other people need to warranty their phones.
P.S. I was on Stock Eclair when I brought it in.
Somewhat strange but i think
they are just doing you a "favour".

sounds good to me!
YUP! I'm going camping for the next 4 days... now I have something to look forward to when I get home and need my tech fix! Cognition 5???
I hope it's for Rogers and not AT&T!
Well they did specifically state on their website its for the I897 aka the AT&T Captivate.

so.... does this mean there will be a AT&T update for the captivate?

We really don't need an AT&T update if the source is 2.3.3 for the i897.
This will be far better than a tainted product.

Aww. :-( ....
I dont believe theyve announced an official date yet, still just Summer 2011. The best question is whether AT&T and samsung are going to release an official update for the US Infuse to match the Canadian version with its 2.3 and 1080p.

They're too busy wondering how they're going to spin the Marketing on 3G being 4G once all the other carriers move from 4G to 5G in 2014 when AT&T still is finishing rolling out 3G, haha
When can any carrier be bothered with big OTA updates like gingerbread? They dont care. They figure we bought the phone already so they have their money, why should they spend money giving us what we deserve?
