Ok so thanks to inxane over at sdx developers us samsung intercept users have a stable custom kernal wich includes a stable root.im hoppin from place to place to see who is gonna start building roms for this thing?? ill be the guinea pig and test whatever anyone comes up with
Thinking along the same. Still waiting for a place we can talk in here on xda. Just sent an e-mail to the forum admin asking for the intercept section. You might want to do the same
I'm new to this site. Really don't know what I'm doing being as I'm usin the app on my phone so I don't whose the administrater. Sdx has done gotten a lot done with this phone but I figured more people could pitch in because inxane and littlejh over at sdx are about the only devs to put in any work on this phone(chibucks too). Just reply and let me know what the admin. Says

Ok that's good. It would be nice to let the intercept in. I mean the more devs work on it the bigger the phone will get. If they let us have our spot this phone will not go un-noticed

it would be awsome to have a place on xda to post. I've been a member here for a year and I just got this phone on virgin mobile (switched from my tilt2) and this phone is a nice little deal $25 a month unlimited data/text 300 min. should be getting upgraded to android 2.2 this is my favorite forum, I don't like the forum for samsung dev. hope we get a place here
dude, here http://forum.sdx-developers.com/intercept-development/ is a real good place. they have already gotten alot done and everybody is real polite and willing to help anyone out. i just want a spot here so more and more developing can happen

If you haven't noticed me and lmartin92 (AWESOME GUY) are the ONLY SHOWCASE users that has added anything to the community.. Hopefully that is about to change soon, we have a couple new guys that really sound promising, but I'm sure there's many of you that could contribute some Valuable help....
I don't think it's right depending on the Mesmerize Devs and Fascinate Devs do everything for us so I'm trying to learn what I can... And only a few months ago I'd never touched an Android device. Until about 3 weeks ago I'd never touched linux. All this is VERY new to me, but if you're willing to learn and have any knowledge with a computer, which if you've flashed anything you more than likely do, and can simply FOLLOW instructions.. Then there's plenty of people including myself that are willing to teach you what they know...
Bdemartino, has written an awesome theming guide Found HERE... He has the tools listed that you need just make sure to follow his instructions word for word... For showcase users (make sure to use the latest Showcase Pick n pack to pull the framework-res and twframework-res for your themes) Theming is trial and error.. You're more than likely not going to get it right the first try... I have some additional files with the xml edits.. Just PM me if you're interested
Phidelt82 has written up a guide for setting up a DEV box located HERE.. This may be advanced for some, but you can always walk through it and see Linux and play around with some stuff and try to learn some commands..
I'm just learning mods, but again I can teach you what I've learned...
And for all the Showcase users that don't think they can develop or don't have time, then the least you could do to support this forum is offer the Newer guys courteous answers when they ask.. I know that the same questions can get old, but let's not forget that we were all new at one point.. Some people may have no forum experience what so ever... So let's help them out, and if you don't want to do that then simply don't respond and let someone else answer them...
The last thing we want to do is scare away new Users from XDA, you never know what they may bring to the table down the road!!!!
And for the new people...
Please Read the entire posts first before doing anything, if you run into a problem try reading through the thread to see if anyone else has the same issue..
If you can't find your answer then the best place to get an answer is the irc
http://webchat.freenode.net/ channel= #samsung-mesmerize
and you can always post a question in the threads as well....

I am a little new to this but succesfuly rooted my last showcase and had 2.2.1 with pick n pack .3 and voodoo kernal and it worked great other than I couldn't silence phone calls with the volume rocker. Anyone else have this issue? Then I flashed superfrankenclean Tom with comavault kernal and I had a lot of verizon stuff on it like location services powered by vzw and also 3g mobile hotspot vzw wasn't worried to much about it till this morning my service dropped to nothing then I dialed *228 which I know now was big no no and then my phone went into roaming and couldn't get any service at all so took it to csouth got a new one which probably will be charged for and then tried to do step by step instructions for froyo and links were gone and instructions so I tried to root with z4 which I did then couldn't get red recovery screen to work when I flashed update.zip kept getting no signature or something so anyway I was able to redo my steps on the froyo build from Odin as I had somehow remembered and now I got everything going on pnp.3 and using voodoo but I really miss voodoo control sound is this still not available for it? I would like to go back to superclean with comavault but would like some advice and feedback from more experienced users I posted this in another thread but figured this was best thread for it and I really wish we had our own thread because I read on this site for days back 2 weeks ago and had massive migraines from trying to figure out what would work for showcase and what wouldn't and some things like rom manager you use the fascinate for something then for other things on this site you use the mesmerize so any help with what is most stable and what to run would be appreciated only thing I can tell not working with pnp.3 now is can't silence phone calls still but I really like the superclean and would go back to it if someone posted about what's happening to cause the radio signal issue

The best advice I can give you is learn to listen (read) and follow the discussions and advice these forums provide. Only flash ROMs, kernels, etc. that are either designed for the Showcase or are known to be compatible with it. Period. If you don't pay attention, and just go off flashing this and that and whatever, you're asking for trouble. There's no need to get a headache over all the stuff that's out there that isn't for the Showcase. Only concern yourself with what is either for, or is compatible with, the Showcase. Everything else isn't relevant.
And if after actually reading the original post and the thread and you still aren't sure if its a-ok for the Showcase, just ask. But read first. Don't be that guy who asks, when the original post clearly states it is or isn't Showcase compatible in the second or third sentence. Know what I mean?
As for the superclean ROM. I'm running it and the comavolt kernel and have had absolutely zero issues.
I've had two other people tell me they lost their signal all together with superclean to and they tried to go back to pnp and they still had no signal. Only way they got it back was to use odin. Guess ill try it out again as I really liked it. Under settings and mobile network which one of the boxes do you have checked? Home automatic a or b?

It was sarcasm about it being the best phone ever. Obviously every time you buy anything its obsolete with in a matter of days. With that said, what is the point of complaining about it?
As for development, I am and have been working on a rom for this device. Along with a couple other people. The reason its on the hush is because I would rather wait to announced anything about it until its complete. I am not here to argue with anyone. I am here to make this a better phone for me and everyone here. But when I come here to the general section to help others having REAL issues. All I see is back and forth talk about a new device and how much they hate the sgs 4g. If you are unhappy sell it. If you want to rant about it. Start a blog. It just gets old, and I know I am not the only one that feels this way.
Anyways. That's all I have to say.

I'm here to make this phone better, contribute to others who like the sgs4g, and to learn what I can about development for it. Come on people--these are phones not sports teams. If you like a different one go find the forum for it and gtfo of this one.

This wasn't to raise my post count, most all of my posts are to either help someone that is having an issue, testing for other dev's, or for dev work that i am currently working on.

Thank you both for the replies. I don't want to give the wrong impression... I read the fourms often. Just saying a list would be great... would help people know what fourm to start with, myself included. When you come into the game late its really tough to figure out where to start... for instance, the lastest and greatset stable build. No big deal though, I'll figure it out soon enough. Thanks again for the replys!

I agree that more reading can definitely be done so that you have a better understanding of everything, but I also agree that the whole process of finding roms and kernels and themes is a pain.
I'm working on a website at android.jakaar.net which will encompass lists of roms and kernels for a large majority of Android phones. It's currently limited to the Samsung Captivate and Samsung Infuse, but go to
android.jakaar.net
I know it doesn't cover much right now, but I am working on it.
I hope it helps, and please forgive the fact that it's not the greatest site at the moment, it takes a lot of time to put all the info together.
let me know if you have a specific device you'd like me to add to my site. To do that, you can email me at [email protected] or go to android.jakaar.net/contact.html
Any ideas on how to get more dev support? And why everything has slowed down for the mytouch 4G slide recently? But shout out to those devs who have made roms for this device. thanks

That's kind of it right there. That pesky thing called life keeps getting in the dang way of getting stuff done.
I know work for me has been ... overwhelming... lately, and I don't get much keyboard time right now.
My lady has a birthday coming this weekend, and I picked her up a brand new Nook Color. I'm spending the keyboard time I have this week configuring her surprise. I should be working on that instead of typing this, but I got a half-day today (thankfully) and have a few minutes to spare browsing through the MT4GS forums.
I hate doing graphics work, which is what i'm down to on the Nook Color for her. Installing cm7 and then configuring it the way I want her to have it doesn't take long, and the boot animation is already knocked out, so now it's down to icons and wallpapers.
The reason I hate graphics work is it just takes so long to get so little. Even having pictures of her and I, and tons of pictures of things based on the theme i'm putting together for the device, it still takes so long to stitch them together and/or edit as necessary. Photoshop is probably the most worthwhile software purchase i've ever made, without it ... it would be a long and frustrating road to do something I already don't like doing.
Col.Kernel is right though - as soon as we get kernel source from HTC you'll see this place light up like the sun.
I don't know how long you've been floating around here in the MT4GS forums, but back before we had S-OFF there was very little going on in here. Definite information exhange, but no ROMs or even software patches.
But spending time here we were getting our information together, and when we got S-OFF we hit the ground running. People were asking and asking about ROMs, and some just dove in and started doing ... others were testing for them, and we've all come a long way with this phone.
We've fixed some of the nagging problems, got a handful of awesome ROMs to choose from, each one lovingly constructed by it's developers and all are a pleasure to play with.
There are other interested parties working on interests for this device, and i'll release the ROM i've been working on when it's ready and I have the time to support it. There are definitely things coming down the pipeline.
The best way to get something done really is to do it yourself, and watching the MT4GS section of XDA grow has really reflected that concept more then anything else. Our sharing what we know has enabled people to do just that...
...nestled in the larger home of XDA you can learn how to do anything you could possibly want to do with the device right here.
Really...just think of something you want to do to your phone and then search XDA. If you don't find the information you're looking for (and usually a well-written tutorial) then you'll find someone else interested in doing something like that and have someone to work with. If it can be done, the answer is here somewhere if you can find it.
So let me counter your question with a question, OP, and I mean this in the friendliest manner possible -
What are you doing to support the device?
Good question actually nothing that's why I have the up most respect to those who develop for this phone. You guys are great and I'm in no way tryin to push u guys or anythin. I agree. I mean realistically I'm sure the devs will be the first to know when source or drivers get released, but but don't squash a guy for being enthusiastic and trying to be helpful.
First, I would like to apologize for lowering to a level I have tried to remove from these forums. I have been in this game quite awhile and I've learned one thing for sure, being polite and helpful get the best results. I come originally from the lowly Huawei ascend and I'll tell you, that phone has a great community and still sees support and it hit eol more than 6 months ago. We as a group decided our own fate when WE pushed our devs to lock our ICS thread. This is our device and our forums and we are responsible for building a sense of community. As it is now, I cringe to check my own threads because I know they will be bloodgened with haters and "you're wrong, I'm right ". We should all try to encourage one another and promote how awesome our device is, which brings me to this... Why use these forums to bash the g2x? All the complaining and whining is why t-Mobile bailed out. I am a collision tech for highline vehicles, do you have any idea how much service a Ferrari requires to keep it running? I seriously doubt Enzo Ferrari endured customers calling to tell him what a pos his cars are(I know he's dead) Lastly, I happen to be a successful writer for another website, I happen to be a weath of knowledge with a lot of connections. I have been been working my butt off to help a certain group of devs get a certain app working on our device, all I'll say is those of us that are flashing addicts will appreciate this app. I get things done through kindness and support. Very well said. Although I don't think the "you're wrong I'm right" has a lot to do with the problem. I think the problem goes a little deeper then that.
I feel the problem lies more upon the greed of many users who for some reason think devs/themers owe them something. Developers and themers do this because we like to in our own freetime. We like seeing the page views, downloads, thanks, and constructive criticism that push us to go a step further.
I will give an example of how many of us that make releases look at things. And use my personal releases as reference.
My precision theme for all devices I own and some I don't own has about 6k downloads. Precision for cm7 has about 900. Icecreamcomb has a little over 3k. Weapon new clip has about 400. And a few thousand for all my wallpapers, boot animations, and other images I have created. So apparently a lot of people use my work which is what I hope for upon releasing, seeing as I want people to enjoy it as much as I do.
Look at my thanks meter. I have 210 thanks. So that tells me that out of the 10k+ people using my work only 210 (2%?) where grateful enough to take the liberty to click a button and show appreciation for my hours and hours of hard work. But hey that's fine at least some people do appreciate it and many more use it.
However there are always those that do nothing but troll and complain that drives everyone away. It is sad when it gets to the point that people stop developing for a device because of users. I find it quite astounding the nerve of some people.
