Astro SMB Network Module: Problem Opening/Viewing Files On Network - General Questions and Answers

I have a problem when i try to view/open files on my network, say for example I open a photo, i get the following error "file type jpg not found". If i open any other files i get the same error "file type *file extension/type* not found".
Any idea how to fix that or what could be causing it?
I am able to view files on the phone and sd card themselves.
PS: If i try copying files from the network to the sd card or phone and then try to open/view the file i get the same error.

How remove bad directory entry at QTek S110\Storage

I´ve got a problem on my QTek S110 - an invalid directory entry at \Storage.
It have to be a .CAB file with installation of a program, but currently because of some bug it is detected by system as subdirectory. It is marked as System, Read-Only and ROM. Has size of original CAB (approx. 3Mb). Its impossible to remove this invalid entry with File Manager ("This directory cannot be removed" message because). I can´t clear read-only and system attributes of this pseudodirectory. There
are others signs of error - strange behavour when this entry is displayed in different file managers etc.
I can´t format \Storage because "embedded drive cannot be formatted".
Hard reset has not effect.
Suggest a way to solve the problem, please.
ROM Upgrade? Some utility for format? Utility like chkdsk?
I've found the answer.
I made BigStorage in my QTek.
During upgrading internal Storage had been cleared.
So I've solve the problem and increase Storage capacity simultaneously.

Confused about (internal) storage

Hello,
I am little confused about phones storage. Hope someone can help me.
OK, When I first configured my phone I installed TitaniumBackup and restored all my apps and data from my former phone HTC Sensation. Then I copied Sensations SD Card data to Nexus' internal storage via Windows. For example also the folder "WhatsApp".
When I connect the phone to my PC I can see its internal storage. In the folder "WhatsApp/Database" I can find some files like "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" or "msgstore-2014-01-16.1.db.crypt".
Now I open ES FileExplorer, go to device/sdcard: there I can see mainly the same folders I copied from Sensation to Nexus. WhatsApp is also there. When I look inside I can't find any files like "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" I see on "internal storage" via PC. but I see others like "msgstore-2014-01-24.1.db.crypt". What?! I don't understand that.
OK, next Test: Via PC I copy a file named 123test.txt to the Whatsapp Folder. Again I look via ES FileExplorer on the phone, what happens. Ola, I can see 123test.txt in device/sdcard. But not e.g. "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt". Aha... strange.
And while writing this question I had to copy the filename of "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" from Windows explorer to paste it here. And now I can see also "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" in device/sdcard on my phone, but not the ohers like "msgstore-2014-01-16.1.db.crypt". I touch a file in Windows Explorer on "internal storage" and after that it's copied to device/sdcard?
This can't be normal?! That's zero transparent... and weird...
Can someone please clear it up for me?!
THANKS!

Maybe it's because I haven't finished my coffee yet, but I reread your post a few times and only sort of understand what you are trying to figure out...
Since the Nexus doesn't have external storage, then the Internal Storage you see in Windows is /sdcard. It sounds like maybe either the database files from your Sensation might not have transferred over to the Nexus correctly, or the older file maybe was rewritten with the version of the app on the Nexus? Or if it just doesn't show up when you copy the file to the phone while it is still plugged in, then it might not show up in a file manager on the phone until you unplug it and then the phone rescans the media to sync the contents so file managers can display everything. This is common behavior with the MTP set up. Let me know if I am not on the right path with the info and I'll see if I can help clarify more.

Hello es0tericcha0s,
what I do not understand is: Why do I see on my PC other files then on my phone?
Why I looked at that: On phones with SD Card I backuped all my SD Card before ROM changes. Then I just copy my backup back to SD Card. But now I am not sure what to backup. If I backup my internal storage via PC I have definitily not the current data in it!
I don't understand that behaviour?!

I'd have to go with good old buggy MTP. I've seen lots of these 'ghost files' in Windows explorer with my previous phone (GNEX). If both file manager apps and for instance adb shell do not show files that Windows explorer via MTP does show, you can safely assume Windows explorer is wrong.
Tip: for a more secure data transfer, copy your /sdcard content from your PC to the N5 using the adb push command. I believe there are even GUIs for adb nowadays if you don't like working on the command line.
Guys... I still do not understand that thing...
I installed CM11. Copied via Windows Explorer my Titanium Backup folder to internal storage. Nothing else. Then I restored WhatsApp to see what happens. Everything worked fine. Whatsapp is OK but has no media file I sent or received. OK, I can copy them from my backup to internal memory. BUT I CAN'T SEE ANY WHATSAPP FOLDER in my Windows Explorer. But in my phone file explorer I can see it!
This can't be normal!
How does one can make a consistent backup of it's phone with that behaviour?!
EDIT: After I rebooted the phone I can also see the WhatsApp folder in Windows... :/
Like I said: MTP is buggy. For reliable file transfers via usb use adb push and pull commands.

This is sooo strange...
I made a TWRP backup. Then I used adb pull /sdcard/ /sdcardbackup to copy my storage with my TWRP backup to PC. But I can't find the backup on my PC after adb finished the copy job. Where is it? I searched with the explorer on the phone:
/sdcard/ -> I am redirected to /storage/emulated/legacy - this view is identical with my backup on pc
/storage/sdcard0/ -> I am redirected to /storage/emulated/legacy - same as above
/storage/emulated/ -> There are folders 0, legacy and TWRP and there I found my backup.
Shouldn't I find TWRP backups on my sdcard, storage, emultade, legacy or I don't know how the place is called?!
OK, I try to copy thios TWRP backup to my PC:
- via PC: I can't, because I see only the "internal storage"
via adb: I can't, too: E:\Nexus 5\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>adb pull /storage/emulated/TWRP /TWRPbackup DOES NOT WORK
BUUHUUUUUUUUUU unbelievable
How do you check where your data is? I don't...
You used a relative path for the destination folder, meaning that folder was created on the location where your adb executable is. Look for it there or use an absolute path for your destination folder.

You're supposed to adb pull from /sdcard not /storage
If you didn't change directory (cd) in cmd / terminal, then your pulled data is in the directory that opens by default in cmd. Open cmd to see what path you let it default to. Often c:\users\username
Don't forget if you're in windows, you need to
adb pull /sdcard/source \destination
And linux
adb pull /sdcard/source /destination

Hello,
copy command should be ok. hoever. Why is TWRP backup saved to location /storage/emulated/TWRP, not on "internal memory"?
Really guys... this can't be normal. is there something wrong with my phone or ROM?!

No, it's something wrong with you. I'd be easier to copy the backup to the phone memory visible to a PC using a root explorer and then copy it to the PC that way if you can't get adb working

Storage permissions issues, Nexus 5X 6.0.0 and 6.0.1

I'm having an issue with my internal storage. Sometimes I cannot modify files or folders using either a file manager (e.g. ES File Explorer or free version of Root Explorer) or when connected via USB to my computer. For a bit more backstory, please refer to my previous thread, which has received no replies and so I am asking for help here.
Basically, I would like to be able to move files and directories freely across my internal storage. Not much to ask for, really. However, some files and folders can't be moved (cut and paste) or simply copied (copy successful, paste fails). This first started when I was on PureNexus (6.0.0, 12/01/2015) with ElementalX 0.07 and rooted with SuperSU 2.62 (not systemless root). I've since returned to complete stock 6.0.1 (flashed factory image using fastboot), and now on systemless root (2.61) for a couple apps that I use.
Symptoms are:
1. could "copy" any file, but could not paste into any directory. ES File Explorer throws an error "/sdcard/directory/file_name: open failed: EACCES (Permission Denied)". Root explorer (free version) would say "Copy failed, file_name to /sdcard/directory"
2. when connected to a computer over USB, can copy files from computer to any directory on phone's internal storage, but cannot delete anything. When I try to delete a file or folder, I get the Windows error message that the destination has been disconnected, etc., even though it's not.
3. if I've copied a file from computer to phone (say music), some files cannot be copied to another location in internal storage, some files can.
Previously when I was on PureNexus with normal root,
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /storage/emulated/0/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /sdcard/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /data/media/0/* then I am able to do anything I damn well please.
Now that I've reverted to stock 6.0.1 from factory image and with systemless root,
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /storage/emulated/0/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
If I am on my device and using ES File Explorer and if I am in the path /sdcard/* then I am unable to copy/move files and directories, as I've described above.
I do not see anything under /data
Having said all of this, none of my apps have any problems accessing internal storage, be it for data, cache, or writing anything to /Android/data (or obb)/*
Is this a hardware issue? I didn't think it would be, because it doesn't seem like the internal storage is faulty, since everything else runs perfectly fine.
OK, an update to this.
After further investigation, I am finding that my issue perhaps has to do with permissions on files that have been cross copied. By "cross copied", I am referring to anything that I created by file manager or by computer, and attempted to modify using the other device. An example of cross copying would be if I created a folder called "Report PDFs" while connected to a computer via USB, and then tried to copy a bunch of PDFs into it using ES File Explorer. Inversely if I create a folder using ES File Explorer, I cannot modify it or files within it when connected to a computer via USB.
Using the File Manager in TWRP (2.8.7.2) I am able to modify all files at will, without any restrictions. It's only when I'm booted up into Android and accessing storage through a file manager app or via USB connection.
I can repeatedly reproduce this problem now. Any thoughts as to why I don't get access to files/folders due to cross copying?

Cant copy files to phone

I have format my phone in TWRP, but when Im using enable mtp and the catalog opens in windows and Im inside the phonedrive and press copy the copy message starts but nothing gets copied.
Anyone here who have had the same problem?

I cannot access to the recorded video.

Hallo,
I have recorded a video today. During the video shoot I have also shot photos. Afterwards I watched the video without a problem. After an hour I wanted to share it via whatsapp. Whatsapp has not responded and crashed several times. I have restarted my S7 and tried it again no avail.
I have checked in the Gallery and it says that it "failed to play video". When I tried to edit the file it says "File corrupted or not supported". When I try to edit a photo file it even crashes. "Photo editor has stopped."
This has never happened before. Can anyone help me to understand what is wrong with my files. The video was a record of a graduation ceremony therefore I cannot record it again.
Have anydy idea to recover my files?
Have you tried copying it via USB cable to your PC?

Yes, but without success. I cannot play the file even with VLC and the photos that I have shot during the recording cannot be opened either.
When I click the details of the movie file by the Gallery app of S7, it shows that it is more than 100mb big. However in the file manager of S7 and in my computer the file size is 3 MB.
I tried to upload the file with Google drive and dropbox from my S7 but then I get "android.process.media stopped" message.
In the google search I find some sites describing how to fix that error but I dont want to lose the file forever before clearing the cache and data.
I have samsung SD card. And the file is stored there. I have got any issues before with the SD card except last week after a system update S7 didnt recognize the SD first but after a reboot everything worked fine.
Try this free SDCard data recovery, put the MicroSD card in your PC and run this software, see if it can find the lost files
