Can activesync deal with more than one phone?

Hey i'm kind of new to syncing I wanted to know if activesync for pocket pc can handle more than one phone and if it can have 2 sets of data, because my brother has a pocket pc and I also do and he says if I sync my phone on our computer, it can erase all the contacts off of his phone the next time he syncs, is this true?
and I had my phone at one point synced to another computer, is there atleast a way that I can copy it to this computer? like is there a file or anything that can be coppied?
I just flashed my phone and all my contacts and appointments etc. were on that computer
can anyone help me?

Yes, just set up partnership for each phone. So when activesync will recognize each phone when plug the usb in.
i apologize i meant to say that I have done that before, but more or less if outlook can have two sets of contacts......
and is there a file that I can copy from the other computer to this one with all the contacts and other info?

Not that I know of. I have 3 ppc's and if I let them all sync contacts, tasks and such they all have the same info.
You would have to set up seperate profiles for each phone and just uncheck the parts you dont want contacted.
If you absolutely must sync them both to outlook you can set up a seperate user account that way outlook will treat that particular log in as a seperate user and you can have him sync on one log in and you on another windows log in.

okay I may have to set up another windows user, but is there atleast some sort of file that I can copy? i have no contacts on my phone and I need to atleast get them on this phone...
the computer with the info isnt syncing to my phone since I tried to update it to activesync 4.5
PLEASE help me
I think the problem, is that it isn't very clear what you want to do. Are you looking to copy the outlook data file to another computer? Or are you trying to copy the outlook data file directly to your phone w/o syncing? If you are trying to copy the outlook data file from one computer to another, then yes...that is the Outlook.pst file. It is located in C:\Documents and Settings\{Profile Name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
Simply copy this file from one computer to the next replacing the old outlook.pst, or if you want to merge it b/c you have info on the other computer perform an import.

Migrating to a new computer... any advice?

Hi everybody,
Im migrating to a new computer this week and want to make sure I do it properly without losing data.
Any advice for this? Can I export my activesync profile so the new computer recognizes the phone and data and doesnt tell me to start a new profile?
Any recommendations, advice?
thanks in advance!!
Dan
you don't need to do anything... if all the data you currently want is on your phone, just start using your new comp and it will sync everything. of course you'll have to set it up the sync though. you wont lose any data...
To be safe, make a backup of your phone's contacts. PPCPimBackup works perfect for that!
I am attaching it. just copy it to your phone. It takes a little while to start.

Transferring Contacts To A Non-WM Phone Without Using SIM?

I also have a Sony Ericsson W580i as a "backup" phone and I want to transfer all of my current contacts to that phone without having to copy all of them to my SIM card. Is there any way I can extract the numbers from my PPCPIM backup files?
Maybe there's a different way?
Thanks in advance.
Exchange/Outlook would be the most viable way, assuming the SE phone supports either.
If you have an Exchange server with your contacts on it, you could just connect to that. Failing that, you could sync your contacts directly to Outlook on your PC from your WM phone, and then back to the SE phone.

[Q] Question about reconfigure / phone not being recognized

So my windows phone 7 (omnia 7 ) only shows up as "device" not as Lucas Samsung Omnia 7
it says that i need to configure it and give it a name.
i am afraid that i will lose all my pics and music and stuff from the phone. i dont want zune to automatically delete my stuff and configure it as a new phone.
So is it save to configure it or is there a work around to re-recognize?
edit: it has a custom rom (DFT) (since a long time). which i dont want to lose
I think I didn't loose anything when I configured my Omnia 7 without and with Custom ROM in Zune, but I can't guarantee what happens with yours. However, after it was configured, Zune always copied everything from my phone to my computer. When I deleted one of those files, they were also deleted from my phone. Setting the sync to manual didn't help, so I had to cancel the sync everytime I connected my phone
Now I didn't configure my phone and Zune thinks it's a guest device. I can still sync manually, but I have full control

UL40...usb will charge but not transfer files.

Hi, I have a Ul40 cellphone version 7.1.1. for years I have been downloading into my phone, then using a USB cable to transfer what I want into my old Dell PC.
Yesterday I hooked them up and my phone will charge but not transfer files. My PC doesn't seem to recognize it. I rebooted my phone, deleted cached files, etc.
I googled up the problem, new cable, same problem. One resource said to go to settings, storage & 3 dots, then USB connection. Instead of getting the option to use it as a mtp, it would only give storage clean up.
What do I do now? Is there something specific for my model? If I factory reset it will it go back to normal? At one point my PC said something about drivers. I downloaded a no ads app, it didn't seem to do a anything and wanted to add more stuff to my phone and/or PC.
Is it simply time to get a new phone?
Thanks, BA
OP...noticed there were 7 views but no reply. My tech skills are very limited. Sorry if I did not post this in the right place or something.
Did anybody else have this problem, how would I find it? Thanks.
