I was in the sane boat as you. I came from a Tilt 2 as well, and the night before the phone released in stores, I couldn't go to sleep! Lol. You will be very happy with it, trust me.

i hope so because i was a little disappointed with the tilt2,thx for the tips

Hi:
I too came from the Tilt2. There is absolutely no comparison between the two phones.
Captivate is so fast compared to the Tilt2. My Tilt2 had more than the occasional lockup.
And of course you will be SO amazed by the screen. I keep having to stop myself from drooling on it lol.
Tilt2 seems so clunky and huge compared to the Captivate, the Tilt 2 reminds me an awful lot of the first Tilt (big, clunky, heavy). When I put the Tilt 2 and Captivate side by side, I ask myself "did I really think the tilt2 was cool when I got it?!", because it looks like a big fat dinosaur compared to the Captivate

I'm a linux user, so an android phone was an obvious choice for me; I'm only sorry that nfs (net file sharing) is missing and smb doesn't seem to be implemented in all applications.
If I were a windows user I think I would use win mobile and if I was a mac user, I think I would use an iphone, but that's just me. Not brand loyalty as much as maximum compatibility.

New to Fuze need some help/advice (Fuze vs Iphone 3G w/ new 3.0 update)

Hello everyone, I just recently purchased a Fuze and had some questions and concerns. Well to start off I first had a Tilt (8925) and oh man was that awful that thing would never work when i wanted to and it was huge. Later i got an Iphone 3G and I have to say I was surprised. I had low expectations from it specially since apple locked it down, but then I jailbroke it and it worked pretty well, but there was still somethings i didnt like about it:
1. No landscape sms [biggest concern i have large fingers and typing on that was pretty hard. got used to it after a while but it was way better on safari when i could landscape]
2. No MMS
3. No peep 2 peer transfers
4. No bluetooth or stereo bluetooth. [whats the point if of having an ipod in my cell phone if i have to have the damn headphones plugged in
So I gave the Iphone to my brother and just used a regular BlackJack for a while. So I got my brother to upgrade his line to a Fuze and give it to me since I gave him my Iphone [it will be arriving tomorrow]. But then later I go on the apple website and see that they're coming out with Iphone OS 3.0 that will enable all the features I wanted and yet even more! So now im like wtf should I just return the Fuze for an Iphone or give my fuze a try. The only thing is that i would like to customize my fuze with a different rom, themes and programs. Pretty much make it better thatn the Iphone. So what are so popular roms, apps, and things of that nature you guys like using. Like is there an app to watch youtube, add games and all that good stuff?
My main use for the phone will be texting, taking pictures and browsing the internet. I could care less about word, musicID and all that other bull**** att decided to **** up their PDA's with.
Thanks
I'm going back and forth with my Q9H and my fuze. the only thing that is killing me about the fuze is the crappy battery life.
this is a tough call, but I'd say fuze is winning slightly compared to iphone 3g.
Texting: Fuze >>> Iphone 3g
Picture: Fuze >>> Iphone 3g
Browsing: arguably iphone 3g > Fuze (depends on personal preference)
I like what they did to OS 3.0 - it literally got everything I'd want in an iphone. But the #1 deal-killer is still lack of user-replaceable battery. And iphone doesn't have the ability to turn off 3G automatically, which results in battery drain. If you listen to music and rent itunes video as well, I'd prob go with iphone since it'll satisfy more of your needs; otherwise I'd stick with the fuze for now. You can always sell it later and get the 4th gen iphone! (which hopefully will have better camera and battery life)
well the fuze has a better camera in my opinion... it has a physical keyboard... and the fuze has way more customizing options... the iPhone is cool but i say stick with the fuze
the biggest wins for me of the fuze over the iphone is the PHYSICAL KEYBOARD.
i can't do on screen keyboards for more than a text message. It's annoying too cuz you ahve to always look at where your fingers are. i love that i don't have to stare at my keyboard when typing.
the next biggest thing for me is the ability to tweak the $hit out of the fuze. ROMs, radios, themes, registry tweaks. So much you can do with it...
the battery life issue can also be fixed with the fuze depending on hwo you set it up. depends on your rom, whether or not you have 3g enabled (which you CAN turn off!) gps use, etc. The iphone doesn't let you control any of these other factors.
Besides, how many people do you know with iPhones? they're all over the place...
Another plus for the fuze is the amount of support there is. You know that when Windows Mobile 8 will come out (eventually) there will be somebody who has ported it to the fuze. I called up ATT and they sent me a new battery, and all that for free. The only thing you lose is the great music playback.

how did you get the battery for free? did you need to send your old one back? I could use a new/free/extra one!!!
Since you've played with the iPhone 3G... use the Fuze for a month. First thing I would do is download a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade from the ROM Forum. Give that a go.
You have 30 days to test and play with it. In the end, if you feel the iPhone is better suited for you then exchange it.
Although I've been following up on the iPhone and I think they're gonna have a new model this year that is faster. I was gonna buy one for my wife, but not until I know for sure if the new model will be better or not.

yea ill probly do that.. i actuallu have been checking up on the new iphone.. its ment to be realeased for June 29 so actually not to long from now.. the big diffrerences will be the new operating system and a much better camera at 3.2. also its rumored that it will have a camera on the front for ichat [video conferencing] so guess will have to wait and see how good it is and if its worth the price
Well there was this pretty nuetral site that compared the iphone 3g with the 3.0 os and a fuze with windows mobile 6.5. the fuze won by a land slide. really the iphone has nothing to offer. its just a big screen with a ton of animations. if u want the iphone i would wait though. a new iphone is supposed to come out in June or July and will cost $99

Ive got two batteries sitting next to me right now . Its also how I got my Fuze, if you're phone breaks enough times, they offer you 3 different phones. For my old Q9h they offered me the Centro, the Curve, and the Fuze. You can also use the method of telling them that something doesn't work and they'll replace your phone for free. Thats how I get out of a phone with scratches.

To flash a rom without a sd card. you need a raphael wrapper.exe file. put the .exe file inside the folder the .nbh file is in and run the .exe

Getting sick of WM, What would you switch to?

I have recently been getting really irritated at WM and how difficult such easy tasks are. I have been getting irritated at the stability, lack of features, difficulty to use among other things.
Other OS's seem just so far ahead of WM even with 6.5 and 7, by the time 7 comes out ill probably have another 3 phones anyways.
Just wondering everyone elses opinions.
Well, 6.5 is coming out soon, May 11 to be precise. I'll stick with WM, and if for some strange reason probably involving torture I get tired of WM, I'll go with Symbian, since the Omnia HD runs it and the Omnia HD is AWESOME!

Same here man!
I won't stick von Windows Mobile, I will sell my Xperia and buy an iPhone. Maybe I will sell my iPhone when WM 7 will be released, but untill this day, the iPhone experiance is something special. Windows mobile interface looks like the ones, from the first Pocket PCs from 1999!
Especially the landscape mode in WM sucks because of this windows task bar, it kills half of the screen in landscape mode!!
And the videos are bucking in the first seconds, forwarding mp3 has got deceleration and so one. That's not what I expect from my phone.
Even when WM has a lot of things which are great (torrent, mms, possibilties to modify it, business stuff), the iPhone has a lot of thing which are even greater (multitouch, smooth and easy interface, fingerfriendly menus, nice mp3 and video function).
Just like I said, right now the iPhone is the ultimate touch experiance.
I hope WM 7 will change it, so that I can buy a Xperia again, because I love the hardware and the look of this phone.
I said a lot about that in a other thread.

Would DEFINITELY go to the new iPhone in June hands down.

HTC HD2 versus iPhone, Blackberry Storm 2

Hello,
I have been recently thinking about changing my HTC Touch Cruise for something newer. To my mind obviously came: HTC HD2, iPhone, Blackberry Storm2.
I know that specifications-wise, HTC wins. BUT...
I have recently experienced the new Blackberry and realized that: the operation system works much quicker and nicer than Windows which HTC uses. It also seems to have less problems -> my current HTC needs a good hard restart once a week or so, because it freezes on more demanding films or some music.
I thought that Windows has much more applications available - well, I am not so sure any more once I realized that thesaurus.com produced their dictionaries for... iPhone and Blackberry. Windows has lost its market and is not taken into account by the newest developers.
I am also wondering whether 4.3'' isn't a little bit too much -> I won't be able to put it into my pocket any longer!
What do you think? HTC seems to have created a very beautiful palmtop, full of great specifications but it has also committed one crucial mistake - it used Windows...
I would be grateful if you could share with me your opinions. Maybe my fear is unjustified and the newest HD2 works perfectly in all the aspects easily beating the competition?
I have to agree with you.
I have been a WM fan for the last 5 years or so and have become disilusioned with the OS. I too was looking for a change and had been watching the LEO. This is indeed a good hardware spec, but imho let down by WM6.5. I decided that I was after a better consumer experiance and opted for the iPhone. Everyone raves about them for a long time now so I decided (after much researching) that I would try one. I have not been let down by it yet. Mind you, I've only had it 3 weeks. I'm taking a punt that in 18 months or so, WM will have caught up or Andriod will have matured, but until then, I'll take a walk on the dark side.
So far I'm loving the fact that is just seems to work and it integrates with my car hifi perfecly. I can now play music and do hands free over Bluetooth. Under WM I could only do handsfree. Surfing the internet is now almost as easy as on my desktop. Safari browser beats anything else I've tried so far. The on screen keyboard was a worry at first, but it's easy to use, especialy in landscap (I have big thumbs). As a music player, well it beats WM any day of the week.
I know I will eventualy hit it's limitations, and when I do I'll consider jailbreaking, much like using custom ROMs from here realy. Untill then I'll keep an eye on the mobile development and look forward to seeing what happens in 18 months.
Good luck with your search, for now I have found my answer, I hope you find yours.
Mav
Personally I'd go for the HD2, as I rank spec more than software. The iPhone is a but too common and its pricing is a far too high for what you get (mins and txts etc). Blackberry has the same problem its too common, I know loads of people with Blackberrys who only use them for Facebook, but if your the kind of person who send and receieves loads of e-mails get a BB as they do it better than WinMo and iPhone.
Alex
Here we go again..........
Leo of course
Well I have been WM for several years and thought I would give the iPhone a trial. A BIG MISTAKE. Its dredful and im getting a HD2 next week.
I thought i'd add my comments to this, i've been predominantly symbian s60 / win mob for years now due to the fact that they "do" everything. But i think its fair to say that windows in all guises comes with the fact that as soon as you start to ask a bit of it, it sticks it's fingers up at you and stops working (symbian too, but to a lesser degree). Usually resulting in a reboot. I recently had an upgrade to do so i started researching into what i might get. In the end, after a spate with symbian, i v much wanted a win mo device but was ever so curious about the iphone. So many ppl couldn't be wrong, right? I was also deeply tempted by the blackberry bold too. I ended up going for the iphone as the upgrade and bought a TP2 as well. I just couldn't do the iphone thing on its own in case i hated it.
Pleasingly, i don't. The iphone is everything a win mo phone isn't, and vica versa. The iphone is completely dependable, never misses a beat, does what it does do perfectly and apart from some of the crazy apps, completely dull. It is frustratingly good. Even multitasking isn't really much of an issue due to push notifications and the like. I'd love to say the screen res is an issue but it never is. Safari is in a league of it's own. But it is dull. I use it as my everyday phone because it's dependable, but i use my TP2 to mess about with, i've had that many different ROM's on it it's silly, i follow forum progress with different things going on with bated breath, excited to see if they can pull this new rom off, or a linux port. It's exciting, i can modify the hell out of it and personalise it my way. I can send files via bluetooth without having to jump through hoops (unlike the iphone).
So, it comes down to what you want it to do, and if you can put up with less or more customization. There is a lot to choose from out there now and it's hard to decide. Look at the palm pre, and droid, and what about the n900 0n maemo?? Whatever you decide, you'll end up with a really good bit of kit, cos the mobile world it going potty with new stuff at the mo.
Just one last note, in defence of win mo, it may be getting a bit left behind in terms of bling, but it still remains one of the most functional os's out there, it's just that the young guns have caught up now.
Hmmm as I don't like iPhone (because everyone has it) and I wouldn't go Sony Ericsson (because I don't believe in their great ability of doing palmtops), I am personally trying to find reasons for continuing with HTC.
1.Is Windows 7 going to be released "soonish", so that if I buy HD2 now I might get some (hopefully) acceptable o/s?
2.There is also Droid Eris / HTC Dragon / HTC Passion / whatever it is called. If it is "HD2 on Google Android 2.0" then the question arises:
------is it just the case of software? If yes, I assume xda-masters will sooner or later allow easy migration between these two systems, or are there any technological obstacles? If this were true then this would be the best option -> One phone if you get bored - you can always swap to another o/s...
3. What was the market response to Android 2.0? What do you guys think about it, as compared with Windows?
I'm using Android at the moment having used WM for the past few years. It's version 1.5 and I'm loving it. Can't wait for 2.0 to come out for the Hero.
It hardly ever needs a reset - it 'just works'
The HD2 is one bad boy! No one knows when Windows 7 going to be released...maybe 3rd Q of 2010. But WM6.5.1 should be a lot sooner for the Leo...
I think its funny that every ppc that htc release, we seem to have this debate "blah" vs iphone, or is "blah" the iphone killer, this has been going on since the touch diamond, personaly i dont think any ppc can be compaired to the iphone, as ppc's are tools with functionality where as the iphone is a toy, it has no real functionality, yeah it looks good and there are lots of apps availble for them but how many of them are useful? and as for "killing" the iphone its clear by now that it has a far too big a fan base to be killed off, anyway thats my 2 cents lol

Well said!
+ 1 for this!
Every new phone and threads start with comparatives...
Very, Very UNFAIR comparison!!!
Seriously, HD2, go against someone ur OWN size (aka Xperia X10, i8910 HD, Motorola Milestone, N900, Acer F1)!
Leave iPhone alone! It's NOT even a smartphone (moreover not even a basic phone as it still lacks some basic phone functionality that people had for over a decade) as it doesn't even do multitasking...
What's "blackberry"?

Need advice on next phone!? Android or XDAndroid

First of all excuse any horrible grammar typing issues im getting use to a netbook with my huge ass fingers .
Anyways next month my contract with ATT is up thank god! Im moving over to sprint due to better 3g coverage and soon to be 4g in my area! Also ATT is just greedy im going to get so much more with sprint!
Im trying to get a phone that will make me happy! Also i want to develop software for it ive been desktop programming for years but making some apps on a mobile seems like it may be very fun and net some money especially on the right platform!
I currently own an ATT fuze (touch pro1) before that i had a tilt (TyTan II). I know winmo very well been using it since the ipaq 3650, about 10 years ago. I love winmo for many reasons, especially ports of all the old school games from when i was a kid like quake and duke3d! I also love almost all software is free. But Ive come to the conclusion though that i hate winmo on my phone, just do, i think its bulky and slow and glitchee. Winmo is sorda like a pda first to me then a phone second. I want something thats also a nice phone! Something i dont need the stylus for ever!
So i had my heart set on a samsung moment. I recently started running XDAndroid on my touch pro. Im in love with it. I love the OS but i do have some problems with XDAndroid it as it is right now. It kills my battery, theres no speach texting(my rommies moto has this, shes running 2.1 too), the gps, blutooth, and camera dont work, nor does the 3d acceleration.
So heres my question if im patient will XD be full featured and have better battery life? Im thinking about getting a touch pro 2 when i switch to sprint now. I want android as my primary OS, but i think it would be nice to also have access to winmo as its been a piece of me for so long. The sad thing is i know winmo 7 is coming out looks great but its a whole revamp and MS wants to dictate to the hardware vendors everything down to the button layout (i hate this, its going to be like an iphone no vendor customization), so im assuming that a touch pro 2 will never get an offical release of winmo7 and may not even meet the hardware requirments?
The whole reason i want the TP2 is in hopes that Android will run flawlessy on it with all the same features as a native phone, and that i will be able to update the tp2 to windows7 since it will make all other winmo phones obselete the day it comes out.
The whole reason i want android is becuase i belive its much better than the current winmo phones. I also belive its a better platform to jump on the band wagon for, as far as writing apps. I truly believe android will surpass the iphone in a few years. This is a really solid platform to get involved with.
So TP2 or Samsung moment? If i put all may cards on a flawless version of XDAndroid with all are hardware working and the battery life and freezing issues resloved will i be let down? Also will i be let down if i want my tp2 to run winmo7? Basically im going to the moment if the TP2 cant run winmo7 and if XDAndroid will never be as perfect as a native android device. The moment also has an 800mhz cpu and an AMOLED screen which in my opion is better hardware than the TP2.
Go for Rhodium definitely!!
Great Android work is being done
Let go on WinMo, I know I will be with my next device. I just can't see any point in holding on.
Go Android for sure.
Well i am letting go of winmo for the most part! But my point if anyone knows if XDAndroid will be flawless soon and support all the hardware and rohdium will will go to winmo7 then in all reality the tp2 my be a better device because it will be capable of running any of the os's . If XDanroid wont be perfect netime soon and the tp cant do winmo7 then theres no reason for me to buy it becuase i want android in full working order and the hardware in the samsung is alot better than rohdiums right now.

Android vs Windows Mobile..which is better/differences, pros and cons?

In your opinion (keep it short please) what is the difference between win mobile and android and pros and cons please?
Thanks
George
Android pros:
Open source
Huge market proliferation (ensuring compatability and development)
Huge app market
Stable faster linux kernel
Winmobile pro:
More compatable with windows
Wifi router (until froyo)

I have 2 Windows phones and 2 Android phones and I can't think of a single thing the Windows phones do better than the Android phones.
Well, when I got my phone at T mobile today (I was tired of att and verizon, long story..) I asked for an android phone and I get home and see it's a windows phone...?
Mind you, I'm not surprised considering they didn't even know what GSM is when I asked if t mobile was gsm.
I LIKE the fact that it acts as a hot spot so what is FROYO?
I also thing I'l like droid better so here's the question, do they make the HD2 for android and is it available for t mobile?
Also, the navigation on the windows hd2 I have seems totally retarded...
Yes, the droid (I had the 8183) was much better.
Does it mean I liked the 8183? Nope and whoever the idiot is that wrote the software that only lets you use a FRACTION of the big a$$ screen to display info, phone numbers, names and such should be shot, SLOWLY!
You guys have NO idea how many countless hours I've spent in frustration, trying to find a way to SEE things on the screen with my $hitty eyesight and all because some moron is too stupid to figure out that MAYBE they should start with making the BASICS work on the phone.
You know, kinda like the iPhone. It was great, EXCEPT at being a friggin' PHONE! Let's see, iPHONE, what part of phone didn't you understand?
Sadly enough, ALL these idiots make more money at what they do than I do
Thanks

Well, I loved MyPhone on Windows Mobile. And I just have my Android for 3 days, but I haven't found something as good and for free yet.
Next to that, I can't think of anything I missed yet. Even eBuddy managed to easily fulfill my needs of MSN/WLM. Even with offline messaging.
There are two things i don't like about android:
First, there isn't only one good videoplayer(ffmpeg is a must have!) EDIT: Rockplayer is a nice start, but the fps is ~100% lower than the ones i get with coreplayer
And i havent found something like Audiobooster.
Try both and take the OS which you prefer
Android Cons:
None
Windows Mobile Cons (based on my experience with 6.1 Buisness):
Too hard to install games and apps
Not enough games and apps
Not user friendly
Too slow response
Android pros:
huge application
Google serious to maintain the android development
Android Cons:
No Wifi proxy support
hard to copy paste beetwen app
Winmobile cons:
too late microsoft your windows mobile is dying. your development team is slow
Old win 6.5 kernel..
windows phone 7 is too late to release...your market app is not working...
all developer moving to another platform
No multitasking support for windows 7...thats shame
Search for rockbase player for videos. Funambol or mybackup pro for closest to myphone off the top of my head.

there's a lot of things to look at but the best way to choose is this.
if you are running an app and it has issues or require a bit of memory, window will lock up and then you have to reset the phone.
with android you'll get a force close notification which you just ok it and keep using it with out having to reset.
Android FTW
Android:
Fast
User friendly
great multitasking
many apps and great games
works better on slow phones
user driven market
WM:
horrible performance, only WM phone with good performance is the hd2
bad multitasking, but happily arkswitch makes it easier
almost no 3d games, marketplace is not worth a ****
OK, As a windows Fanboy turned android here is the main thing Windows does better than android: Multimedia!!
Android is still new to the game and in my opinion hasn't really got a good video and music player. There are some ones that can pass but compared to Windows and iphone they are not that great. On the flip side I plan on developing my own music player which counts for the openness of android. WinMo is arguably just as open BUT with them going a different direction with WM7 I had to jump ship. As for Androids advantages......everything else is just as good if not better than windows (except how they manage the SD card)
Well, the few minutes I've spent with the windows platform already makes me hate it. Whoever did the software for the HD2 is totally retarded. I couldn't even get myself out of whatever app happened to come on last night and I was about ready to throw this big piece of $hit out the window.
I now know what Froyo is and if I'm not mistaken, it'll have a wifi proxy which I guess it to be is that it acts like a hot spot which should put a damper on some of the greedy phone companies (IF it is released on their phones) like ATT who charges you another 30 bucks extra for connecting to your laptop.
That to me is bull**** and greed and IS costing them customers.
Verizon is better with that but I hate their support AND I think their coverage in my area is worse. The support is TOTALLY useless and I left them once because of it and I will AGAIN leave them I think and yes, mainly because of it.
I'll try the t mobile service out for a week or so and if the coverage is good, I'll return this locked piece of $hit and get me one of the unlocked phones from NEgri Electronics. If anyone hasn't heard of them yet (which kinda would surprise me) here they are...
I mean, seriously, in order NOT to pay the full price at t mobile, I have to sign up for two years AND the phone is locked which means I can't use proggies like this one which I NEED! http://www.androlib.com/android.application.org-pbxes-fontsize-BiEA.aspx
For a buck fitty (not fifty, fitty, like fitty cents) I can get this proggy which could fix my problem but I can't do it on a locked phone. Well, they can ki$$ my ass then with all the restrictions. I'll get this one for example http://negrielectronics.com/touch-smartphone-unlocked-tmobile-2747.html , get me a monthly account instead and I can put anything I want on it. Now how the hell can I go wrong with that, AND, they're easier to sell should you want to get rid of them.
Put some of this stuff on it and some silicone case on it and you can sell it years later looking brand new which is what I did with my iPhone.
I'm going to wait for a week or so and decide if I like tmobile and if I do, I'll tell verizon where they can stick their phone.
Would you believe I had to make THREE attempts to get them to port my att number over and meanwhile, I'm paying ATT for the account. I even called and talked to VERIZON people to make sure it got done right and in BOTH cases, they screwed it up. I finally got it done the right IN The store, a WEEK after!
After all this crap AND a busted phone that was only two weeks old, I tried to get a free charging cable from one of the store manager, NOT a charger or the ac adapter thingie, just the stinkin' cable and he wouldn't even give me that. Now that is tacky and petty. Oh, the reason I wanted another cable was so I could keep one in the car cause that piece of $hit pre wouldn't hold a charge over 5-6 hours and let's not talk about TALKING time. This was a LITTLE talking and lots of stand by.
What a damn joke.
I like the pre platform and concept in general and I have several PDA's that are PALM but the PRE phone, they kinda dropped the ball on a little.
No on screen keyboard (now how hard is that to figure out), the actual keyboard should have been horizontal for size and the damn thing is a gas guzzler, AND, I don't see an option to keep the damn notifications from coming up and crowding your screen when you turn it on. Also, it's slow as $hit from when you click that you want the keypad till it finally opens up.
NO Predictive dialing and you can't get the beautiful HUGE clock to stay on top that I know of. Again, how hard is that to figure out? Does this take so long to program into the software? I mean, they almost went belly up. You'd think they had the TIME and STAFF to do things right. Sheesh!
Anyway, enough bitc*in'

That's not how business works. Any phone advertised on TV (like the Pre) is designed for general consumers (people who don't care about the things you're talking about). It would be a terrible business decision to spend more time and money incorporating things that 99% of their target market don't care about or don't even know they're missing. If you're posting on XDA you're probably a lot more tech savvy than the average consumer, thus phones marketed towards the average consumer won't have 100% of the features you request. I always like to buy phones that are rarer and not advertised, mainly because I like having stuff that other people don't have, but also because they usually end up being a cut above the rest of the phones on the market.
Thread moved to General.
If I were you guiri_too, and can afford it, I'd order the Nexus One unlocked and as soon as it arrives, root the thing, put Froyo on it (if I could find it) and take that winblows phone back to T-Mobile. I can't believe they gave you that after asking for an Android phone. That has to be one of the dumbest salesmen ever! Or if you want to stay with T-Mobile and happen to like Sense (Espresso Sense), pick up the the MyTouch Slide. It has a keyboard, MS Exchange support and is pretty snappy to boot (speaking of boot, it only takes about a minute from hitting the power button to making a call). If you need a more business-like phone, I would suggest the Sprint Evo 4G. It's the same size as the HD2, 4.3", but it's Android. The UI looks like the HD2 as well (Sense), but it's a lot quicker and more stable. A friend of mine picked this up after having the Sprint Hero, which he got after the TouchPro (winmo) and couldn't be happier.
As far as the original question, I can only give you an anecdote; when I got my G1, my wife had a Wing which she hated. After a few months of watching me play with my phone all the time, and her Wing being replaced twice, she bought hers and was instantly hooked. We have been android fans ever since. So the advantages of Android for me are awesome stability, openness and apps, of which you don't have to use the market for (unless you get an ATT android).
Let me try to address the replies in one window.
First as for being tech savvy, yeah, I guess I am and I've been around long enough to be picky, HOWEVER, my BASIC needs are a phone I can HEAR and SEE. How come Nextel have speakers that you can hear clear across the next state and this thing I got, the HD2 I can barely hear with the fans in the car running despite them telling me it was really loud...?
Sure, I want a lot of stuff but if you read through all my info, you'll see that some of the things i don't really care about like social networking, streaming video, mp3 player and much more. LARGE FONT! How the hell hard is that to figure out? I mean, for those here who program and considering it's even in very simple programs. IS IT THAT hard to have an option of making the font bigger?
To Heybob. Bob, the problem is that I can't try and see these phones live so to speak. ALL the phones at tmobile are dummies or at least the ones I'm interested in.
Second, to be quite honest and when I think about it, I am not sure if she did mention this one was windows but I DID tell her I prefered android. In any case, NOT knowing what GSM is or if tmobile was GSM is not something I can let slide, ESPECIALLY considering she was the manager...
Now, so far, my tmobile coverage has seemed good. Yes, the phone as in the UI is still totally retarded so the windows OS has got to go. More than likely when I return this, if I still like tmobile then, I'll get a phone from Negri that's unlocked and if I'm not mistaken, he HAS Froyo phones in stock. Hold, gonna call and check..yep, he's got Nexus One with Froyo ready to ship.
Tell'em George with the long wish list sent ya if you buy one. Not that I think I'll get any referrals but hey, it never hurts when it comes time to bug them about finding me the right phone.
Anyway, back to the phones. I do NOT like this windows UI so that one is out. I like that I have found a site with something like 80,000+ apps all in one place and although I'm not stingy, when you're TRYING apps and don't know if you'll like them or not, it helps if they're cheap or free. I got something on hte Pre I didn't like but hell ,I wasn't about to ask for a $1.50 refund.
Many of the windows apps were $15 or around there. I'm not paying it if I can't get a refund if I don't like the software and I AM picky with software too.
By the way, is there someone here that has a rooted android phone that wouldn't mind putting this font proggy on there (hell, I'll be happy to pay for it at only 2 bucks or something) and show me the different font size options? http://www.androlib.com/android.application.org-pbxes-fontsize-BiEA.aspx
I WAS going to do that but as you know, I didn't get a droid phone
I showed this dude on the androlib forum this proggy. He gets it, his wife likes it (he got it for her) and now he's too busy to show me some screen captures. Thanks a lot
George
I've owned 4 different winmo phones and I can say that android leaves those respond FOOLS in the dust.
Android is more compatible with exchange server than windows mobile solution or blackberry.
Work gets done faster and I smile a lot more now.

Well, I just took a few pictures of the HD2 to show people what I'm facing to illustrate it a little better.
Coming right up...
