Epic flasher. Any truth to it? - Epic 4G Android Development

So I'm hearing some chatter that there is an update for the epic that can be flashed from home does that mean we have a flashing tool if so where can I get it?

Well, we have odin and a working recovery so I would say we have multiple flashing tools.

Yes but you must agree the sprint updater was a more solid device for flashing roms. Once we had that we all abandoned odin.

This is my first Samsung phone so I can't agree with that, but I don't refute it because I have no experience with Odin. I can say for sure that a good recovery is about as solid and easy a way to flash a rom as I can imagine. I came from the HTC hero and backup/restore/flashing from recovery is by far my preference.

Not to be a fire starter but my experience on the moment odin alwayss worked perfectly and sprint update utility usually required multiple attempts and battery pulls to get past 1%. I'm not saying I don't want to see an official update utility just saying.

That is true. SWU for the Moment was tempermental but a quick unplug and replug and making sure it wasn't in debug wasn't a terrible option. Either way an official would be great to see and we have options in the meantime!

Swu for moment works great as long as you don't have debug drivers or new pc studio installed. But it's kind of stupid. And an official will be good If we can't get in recovery or boot

New Download screen

I flashed back to stock this morning to test something and noticed there was a 19Mb update. After updating I rebooted the phone and checked a few more times to make sure there were no more updates. When I went into 'Download' to flash a new rom this is the screen I was presented with. After I chose to enter to Download mode that was the 2nd screen I had. Just thought it was funny and would share.

Could someone please upload this bootloader zip ? I would like to try them with this GB leak to see if it gets rid of rainbows.

Removing the download for the bootloaders so people won't try flashing them and brick devices left and right. They were only intended for serious devs who know what they are doing. Sorry.
Could you also upload the whole update package? Thanks for the bootloaders.

Considering that we haven't ever been able to flash dumped BLs from the Rogers ROM, having the update package to look at would be highly beneficial to figure out how to flash the bootloaders.
This is a similar download mode screen to the SGSII - keeping count of how many custom ROMS you run/flash. Keeping in mind if you phone needs to go some where to be serviced there maybe a document of how they can check this counter. A USB JIG cleared this on the SGSII & my jig works fine on my Infuse so I can imagine it will still clear it.

If that's the reason, then that's a REALLY smart way to track if you flash a custom "OS", as Samsung would say.
If it's as simple as using a USB JIG to clear it, then we should be in the clear.
Well i guess this finally gives me a reason to pick one up......

It may be a bit before i could actually get a dump of the update package (considering i have n idea how to even begin to do that). i just had hernia surgery this morning and not really feeling up to doing much in the way of dev work lol. i will let everyone know when i am feeling better and maybe someone could walk me through it on IRC.

Boot loaders flashed fine, now have the new download screen with warning. Still had rainbows and cannot access recovery when used with leaked GB. Otherwise no issues.

I was curious about this, thanks for the info!
Also in case anyone wants to know, after flashing the leaked GB with this BL the download screen still reports official Samsung Binary as the current.
This is just a short term observation: when I flashed the leaked GB with the old BL I got hard reboots when apps accessed GPS (speed test, maps, co pilot) 1 out of 10 times. With these BL's I am at 18 hours using all of those apps without any reboots. Though it could have just been reflashing that fixed it. I did not use TB or anything to restore app data usher time, both times I went back to stock first.

I just downloaded the BLs. Do I convert file (with both BLs) to .tar to odin flash?

How to backup stock rom?

I'd like to get custom rom's on my phone, but one thing scares me. Since im from a canadian carrier, i don't really have the flexibility of finding my rom as U.S citizens have. I've heard that nandroid backs up the rom effectively, but on the contary, i also heard it keeps bits of rooted elements. Any insight at all?
Thanks in advance.

Nvflash one click app. Pretty simple process.
When your done and boot into ClockWorkMod custom recovery, you can backup your stock rom.
LG G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Asus Transformer - 3.7 Revolver OC/UV
Thank you for the replies. I've got three more questions. That is considered "rooting" correct? I'd be able to install a rom afterwards using clockworkmod right? I've used the clockwork on another device, so it isn't new to me at all.
My second is regarding the stock G2X recovery. Would it be the same for my Canadian version of the phone? I'm guessing yes since the hardware is the same
Finally, would this enable my FM radio? For some reason, it isn't enabled with my carrier.
Thanks in advance

galaxy s2 lte flashing problem no usb

first off, first time poster long time reader so hello everyone!
my problem is this. i rooted my cell phone a few months back, my USB jack died a few days ago on my phone and cant be read. i have been charging the battery by putting the positive and negative wires in the prongs of the cellphone battery area.
My replacement from rogers came today and i need to flash it back to stock. i downloaded "mobile odin" to find out my cell isnt supported, what are the other ways i can flash my cell? i have clockwork installed and rom manager. for my rogers stock all i have is a ".tar" file. is this correct or do i need to extract it again or do i just need a whole new file?

Me too, I loved the Rezound. I still have three of them.
I flashed the root 66 ROM on my first boot with the G3 and it works awesome.
I was familiar with Odin as my Wife has a Droid Charge (used to be mine), but it's very easy to use & almost foolproof.

nah, not really. Just different. Just with samsung keep in mind that odin is king.
also being newer to samsung, just read before you flash stuff.
I am amazed at the amount of people here that do not read and do things willy nilly and next thing you know they are crying because they cannot figure out how to fix their phone.
In my opinion I would stay on a stock or custom stock ROM. I just finished about 2 days of headache due to my IMEI going to 0 after using CM9. I will say that I've used CM10 and CM9. CM10 was glitchy, while CM9 was flawless from what I could tell right up until it all went wrong with my IMEI.
I am running cm10 as my daily driver, but it's not without its frustrations. For me, 4G data has been flawless. It's when the phone kicks over to 3G that data problem occur. Specifically, 3G data has erratic signal, periodic loss of connection, and general instability. However, when I'm in a 4G area, data is rock solid.
MMS is still an issue, as well as Bluetooth audio. But all in all, it runs great for a preview build. There haven't been any breakthroughs recently, so who knows how long it'll be before 3G data is stable. I'm thinking about returning to a stock rom for now just because I really need BT audio and will be going on a trip where I only get 3G.
What is the general feeling about which stock rom is most stable?

I have a question about restoring EFS and since I cant post in the dev forum yet, I will ask here...
How do you restore if you are using a windows machine and not linux. From my limited understanding, it seems as the commands in the various howto guides all pertain to Linux while some give commands to restore via Terminal Emulator on the phone. But what if Terminal Emulator is not installed... How do you install Terminal Emulator on a device with no IMEI ? Can a device with no IMEI still connect to market with WIFI ?

you can do it with windows, you can do it one of two ways
one is using the sdk toolkit and using adb.
the other way is copying your backup file to your phone and running the command through terminal emulator.
Yes wifi will still work with no IMEI allowing you to connect to the market and download a terminal emulator.
when he says linux, he means the command comes from the linux OS, but also because android of based off linux which is why it is used/works. He doesn't mean you have to run linux itself.

I read up on everything before taking the plunge with an AOSP ROM so I actually did back up my ESF data. The problem is that the method for restoring it does not work for an IMEI of 0. And yes I did try it anyway but what really fixed my problem was re provisioning the phone then using the method of IMEI restoring using QPST.

If you already had it setup for the Rezzy then you should be fine. Odin is needed if you ever want to return to stock..you know in case something goes wrong. You never know when you may need it.
There is no reason NOT to use Odin, it is simple to use, pretty much foolproof & you don't even need to install it.
All you do is DL the files to a folder in your PC & then click the .exe file.
You don't need the latest version either, I still had Odin from back when I was flashing a Droid Charge & that same version works perfectly for the G3.
