Hi all,
I have an unlocked Captivate running on the Rogers network here in Canada. Whenever I receive a text message it is timestamped for 3 hours earlier. If I receive a text at 8pm, it would show up as received at 5pm.
I have called Rogers and gotten them to reset me on the network. The problem still persists however. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem as well. If so, are there any potential fixes?
Thanks.

Is this consistent for all messages? How about MMS? I can tell you that the network will have little to do with it. The time stamp comes from your phone when it receives the message. There is no time stamp in the message payload itself. Check your time and date settings specifically time zone. Try changing it manually. Test it and then set it back to update from the network.
Thank you for the reply.
Yes it is consistent with all messages. I tried using chompSMS and on the message menu it shows the correct timestamp of when the message was received. However, when I click into the individual conversations, it shows the incorrect timestamp.
I have tried to set the timezone to Pacific (I'm in Vancouver) and then back to update from network but that still doesn't work.
Any help at all would be awesome.
Thanks.

Odd. My guess is the network is setting it in a way your phone doesn't like. I would suggest this:
Set the time and timezone manually.
Clear all your current text conversations.
Reboot.
Get someone to send you some texts.

I'm from Vancouver Island running an unlocked Captivate on Rogers, I calculated the difference between my time and the incoming timestamp and adjusted my time zone setting (GMT -3.00 worked for me). It's something to do with Rogers network, I had the same issue with my N900. Works fine now.
Download a program called smsfixtimes from market
Google the program to see lots of other people with same problem.
You can also use a messaging program called Handscent. It relies on when text was received, rather than the timestamp.
Yup, the guy above me is pretty much right. If you want to keep using the samsung messaging app that came with the phone, get the sms timefix from the market. I'm also in Vancouver using the Captivate (on fido). The problem I had with that is that when I would get a text right after I sent one (say at 5:25pm), if a friend sent me a text back within a minute of me sending the text, it would show up before my text in the thread.
That's why I gave up on that and went over to handscent sms.

I can't figure this out for the life of me. Whenever I receive a text message, it is always timestamped 4 hours behind. When I send a text message its fine, and when I receive MMS messages its fine too. I have have triple checked my time settings and it is set correctly, in my case GMT -5 Eastern US. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

CHeck you regional settings dude (not time&date).......also go into start>settings>phone>TimeZones(tab).....tick the box, the device should get the time & date from the network automatically.
This MIGHT not be present to select, aint got my Touch Pro yet

Hey everyone,
I currently have an AT&T Captivate on the Telus network. I had to manually put in the APN setting and stuff. I have a problem with the SMS portion of the phone. If I send an SMS using the messaging app or handscent sms it shows the sms as sending even though it has been sent. And when I restart the phone it sends all of the text messages again. It is very annoying as sometimes it will resend about 30 texts to the same person. What is wrong with the phone?
I have the same problem sometimes with handscent. Usually it's only 1 or 2 tho

Go under 'Settings', 'Send Message Settings', and check the box for 'Prevent Resend'. This stops that problem with Handcent SMS.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA running Android 2.3
just tried, it would still send the message again after i restart the phone. any other ideas?
i have to delete the whole sms thread to make this not happen. Which is kind of annoying. So I am hoping someone has the same issue as me and has fixed it lol
Is anyone else having this problem? When I send texts, they'll send with the correct time, but when I receive texts, they are an hour ahead. For example, if I sent a text to myself at 3:23am, I receive the text, but it says 4:23am. It's a little annoying since all of the sent messages get pushed back.
I'm running SyndicateROM EB13
Yes, I have the same rom and issue. when i look at the date/time settings on the phone it says i'm now "gmt -5, Central Daylight Time" i'm suspecting this is the issue since the carrier is setting my time but the phone is time stamping the text messages? its a theory in progress, i could be way off.
UPDATE: nevermind... i do this for a living and forgot rule #1. Did a hard reboot of the phone and all is well now.
Do you have your phone clock set to automatic by carrier? If you manually set it differently than the carrier's automatic time the texts will get screwed up.
I tried setting my clock 5 min fast but all of my texts would compile after the recipient and it would make a big mess.

No problem for me
On my Legend
Hi, I've had my rooted (bootloader still locked) AT&T One XL since early June and never really bothered with my SMS issues. I'm hoping for a solution now .__. Here are the issues I have:
1) Sending of multiple messages (this happens with the stock messaging app as well)
I saw that a few other people were having this issue too. For GO SMS, it's even worse because ppl get 3 of the same texts I send. I've tried various messaging apps but all of them result in multiple messages being sent.
2) Receiving multiple of the same messages (happens once in a while), noticed this on stock
3) White flash on the screen while using stock messaging app
Whenever I'm texting, a white flash will flash on the screen sometimes. Not really sure how to explain this one .__. I might be able to record a video of it
4) Sometimes I'll get delayed texts from my friend (I'm texting someone with TMO if that helps). The time stamp when my friend sent the text is always correct though so for example:
Me: bhalbha (1:09 AM)
Me: bahlbha????? (1:12 AM)
Person: jlsdfjsf (1:10 AM)
Person: jkldfs??? (1:13 AM)
Does anyone else have these problems/know a fix?

I FOUND IT. It says:
Service center
+13123149810
Seems like it's the correct one for AT&T
I'm having the same issues. Both the double or triple outgoing messages, and the delayed incomming messages. I checked my SMSC number and it's normal. I'm using the stock messaging app, and I'm on CleanROM 4.5.
Anyone have any idea what to try next?
Every time I try to send a text message, weather its just a text message or a text message with a picture attachment it will not go threw. It just stills their, then either says "Failed to Send" or it says "Retrying" . So far I really find this new Hang outs rather annoying. Do you have to modify something in your phone settings for this to work? I'm on Tmobile. The person I am sending it to, has an Iphone 5 and is on Sprint.
Is your phone newly activated? How long has this persisted?

I also have the N5 on T-mobile. Earlier today i couldn't send any SMS to a person, nor reply to group threads. Maybe there was something with their servers? It was really aggravating me. I thought it was the phone.
Are your APN settings incorrect? If they are, your picture messages will never go thru properly because of improper phone setup. I had this issue until I realized I had mistyped a character in the APN settings. Once I corrected it, everything worked fine.
