[Q] 32GB Class4 Micro Kingston SDHC problem

Hi guys,
I have recently purchased 32gb kingston's class 4 micro sdhc card and encountered a problem with it. Basically the problem is that when I put more than 1.8gb of music on the card everything above that just doesnt get recognised. It is shown in the music player but when you click to play it says "file format is not supported". Another example is if I have 1.8gb of music and try to put a video on the card it says that "format is not supported" aswel. The strangest thing is that it plays music for few seconds then it crashes. At first I thought that it could be a fake memory card but I used h2testw to check the capacity of the memory card and it worked without any issues.

Did you let h2testw completely finish? Because it will write all 32GB of data but reading the data is when it finds the problem.

I actually havent I did it up to 12gb gunna let it do it now for whole 32gb. I still think that it is the phone issue. Still ill let it run through out and post the results

You have to let it finish, it'll try and write 32GB since the card is programmed to show 32GB. But really all it's doing is overwriting existing data (if it's fake). So when h2testw starts to read the data, that is when it'll find if your card is real. It'll tell you how much your card can really hold.

If bought from eBay there is a high possibility that it is a fake, unfortunately.

Thanks yvrRome I did let it finnish and it turns out it is fake... it only wrote 1.8gb and the rest was corrupted, this means its fake. This actually good news because this means that its not my phones fault. And Nivki I did bought this from ebay and to make it worse its second time ive been scammed on ebay purchasing 32gb micro sd in a row lesson for me purchase things like these from retail shops

It could also be just a bad card. I would still recommend buying from a retail shop, though.
Newegg now has the Kingston class 4 32gb MicroSD cards for just over $100.

I bought from ebay 16gb card,had a similar problem.all files above 1gb were non supported format. I bought a sd reader and connected it to a pc,using usb... same problem,I.e. card is defected.

I received a card today that was bought from eBay, i figured if i bought a brand named card(Kingston) that the chance of it being counterfeit was lower. I began to sync my samsung Vibrant with Double Twist and only about 20% of the songs were transferred.
I tried re-formatting the memory card in Windows 7 and the capacity is somehow reset to only 2GB...THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I've seen this happen. After that i try inserting the card into my phone and it' shows space unavailable... 2 PCs won't read it either.
Something this unreliable has to be fake. I recommend running a test with H2testw 1.4 to tell you if it's genuine or not.
Also, Kingston can actually verify your card for you. Maybe useful if you want to ask the sellers for info on the back of the sd card package first before buying! Good Luck

Most of the memory cards bought from eBay are fake, unfortunately. I've came across a lot of victims as I work in a Kingston service centre.
I feel sorry for TS

I have bought quite a few memory cards and usb flash drives from ebay and I have never had an issue however, I do a little 'reasearch' before I click on buy.
I always look at ALL of the seller's negative and neutral feedback. This gives you a really good idea if they are selling legitimate ones. Also look at how much crap they sell, if they have only sold a few items sold I would go some where else.
I usually single out a few 'sellers' that sell a LOT of brand name memory cards. I also list items from the most expensive first to the cheapest, usually all the dodgy stuff ends up way back at the end. Being from australia I also filter it out so that i only see items that are goign to be shipped from Australia (double check feedback to see if theres any indication items are shipped from china/hong kong)
Just like kingston, I beleive sandisk also have something on their website to confirm if you bought a legitimate card.

I have had issues with copying some files to it from my old 8gb card that came on the DZ.
So what I did was put it through the h2testw, with the following results:

This should tell you all you should know....
It is well known that the 32GB card from ebay selling for $40 or less are fakes. Usually what they do is re-code a 2GB card to seem like a 32GB card. I tooka risk witha an ebay bid for $20...they were selling like hotcakes with great reputation....soon after the purchase the guy sky rocketed on negative reviews due to the fact that he was not deliivering, and the few were fakes. I am still in dispute wiith the guy and paypal.
In plain English you got ripped off. If you bought it thorugh paypal, file a claim.
Just out of curiosity....what was the seller's name?

I was wishing for the better. Thank you for highlighting the problem for me.
I bought it off Turtle Rock based in the UK, and I paid over £40 pounds through paypal.
I sent the diagnostic test to Kingston Technologies, and have sent a querry for a replacement or a refund through the eBay querry system.
Kingston Tech will be getting back to me with an answer on the genuineness of the card. i now don't expect to hear differently to your response.
Last of all, the card became unreadable on my phone, pc and digital camera.
I shall give the seller/eBay two business days before taking the matter further.
Am now beginning to wonder if eBay is only good for non-tech items like covers and furniture that one can see and assess on first sight.
My last card for my winMo came from Amazon UK. It is a 16GB. I have no problem with it at all.

turtle_rock_uk have responded to me and advised me to return the defective item for a refund.
I have sent the item via Royal Mail's "Signedfor" route. Since it is weekend, I expect that the item will be with them on Monday.
turtle_rock_uk themselves are toprated sellers, good communicators, and am now waiting to see how quickly they will refund me in order to buy another card, which will hopefully work.
While one can pickup a bargain, I think it is also true that cheap can be expensive. Having paid £49, today I had to spend another £2.10 to send back the item.
I will let you know how we conclude this arrangement.

The best way to verify this yourself is to test say, a genuine SanDisk card after you have tested the one you are not sure about, and see what results you get.

I thought that I should update you on my experience with turtle_rock-uk,
They were very prompt to give me a full refund through paypal.
I am now waiting for the paypal transfer to show on my bank account.
I decide to not order through eBay. Instead I have now placed an order for a sandisk 32gb class 2 card with MobyMemory at a cost of £54.49.
I am hoping they can deliver tomorrow or Saturday.

Is anyone using a 32GB microSD Class 10 (specifically) with their G2X yet? If so, can you please let me know the brand you are using?
Just wanting to make sure that it is stable and not giving the G2X any problems.
Does the G2X support Class 10 cards? Up to what Class is it stable?

I went down to MicroCenter and picked up the Lexar class 10 32GB and it's working great on the G2x. Very stable.

My friend bought one (32GB off ebay) and it was actually a 2GB cheap chinese knock off card that's been formatted some weird way to make it show 32GB...it was craziness...bizarre

There was an article circulating last week about some clever Chinese seller who set up a 128MB USB stick inside an external HDD enclosure. They'd come up with some way to make it emulate a size, but when it began to fill up it'd just dump older data.
16GB Class 6 AData has served me well since I got it for my Nexus One in January last year.

I got the Lexar 32 GB class 10 and it lives up to a class 10. If you want to buy a cheap class 10 then its probably some shady class 10 has a speed of a class 4. Becareful. Go on amazon and get the Lexar one.

Unbelievable. Those bastards (not generally, just those idiot knock off people).
I was looking into a 16GB, but shooting 1080p HD and 8MP pictures sure does pile up fast.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a program that uploaded / backed up all your videos/pictures to you server while you were a sleep (on the charger.) I foresee it right around the corner...

Picasa should have done that in November 2008 when I got my G1. The fact that it STILL doesn't have this capability is one of my gripes with Android.

True that. Probably because of the storage space, unless the program on their end converted the files down to a smaller size. We'll have to wait and see...
After looking around the Lexar seems to be the most promising option...about to order one now. Thanks guys for the input...

There already is! Titanium Media Sync automatically loads whatever folders you want (like the dcim folder of pics) to dropbox. I've been using it for a couple of weeks on two different phones, and it has worked flawlessly. It's a few bucks in the market, but it's well worth it in my oppinion.

Iunlock, you wont be disappointed. Get it from Amazon, since they are a reputable source. If you go to college and have some textbooks, Amazon gives back good amount of credit compared to places that give you cashback for books. I had a few textbooks laying around and only had to pay 15 for the Lexar sdhc

I'm on a nexus one and contemplating this phone. I do have a few observations though that may apply. My class ten card is a legit card from kingston. I do get the right speeds if I take it out of the phone and put it in a card reader. From the phone however the speed is no greater than the stock 4 gig. Since I seldom take my card out I'm not sure I would spring for the more expensive memory since it also made no difference with apps to SD which was my actual concern and reason for buying the faster silicon. This is something which someone who already has a class ten can test out fairly easily to see if the story is different here.

How do you the book buyback at amazon?

In for the updates.
I currently have a Patriot 32GB Class 10... It's awful. Likely the worst card on the market. I've had so many issues with it. It corrupts easily. It's happened a few times this year. Each time it did it I lost just about everything on the card. (Luckily I use TI Media Sync to back up my card to my FTP server.)
I don't use USB to mount the card as a drive that often. Usually I use Samba or something to wirelessly move files. But the times it has corrupted was when it was either sitting idle or I was watching a video.
I just ordered the ADATA 32GB Class 10 since it's got a lot of good reviews. But I'd like to see how you guys do with this card. I could always sell my ADATA card and buy this one if it turns out to be better.
EDIT:
Never mind. I canceled my order for the ADATA card and just ordered the US version of this one. I like Samsung products. Their SSDs are freaking amazing and their customer support has been really good so far. This one was only $2 more than the ADATA one so it wasn't worth the wasted time to try the ADATA first.

Been running ADATA 32G C10 card for quite a few months now . Not a single hiccup

I am waiting for micro sd's to go on sale. Lexar 32gb one on amazon up to $66 ._.

Got the Samsung card today.
First off, it's the first and ONLY large capacity SD card I've put into my laptop that was recognized. My Laptop has recognized all cards 4GB and down, but it didn't recognize either of my 16GB or 32GB cards without asking to reformat them. I don't know why. I wasn't expecting my laptop to recognize this 32GB card. But it did. So that's a BIG plus.
Secondly, I'm using RoboCopy to move over all my stuff from my phone over USB to the new card in the SD slot. There's about 20GBs of crap to send over. Robocopy isn't telling me how fast it's going, but it's taking about 5 seconds to copy over 100 MB, so I put that at > 10MB/s easily. Probably a lot faster. I'll run crystal mark on it as soon as I get done copying my crap over and then I'll do an SD Speed test on my phone.
For the record I've never been able to get the Patriot 32GB card in my phone right now to write faster than 8MB/s (which I honestly believe is due to the phone's limitations, not the cards).
The only reason I'm changing cards at all is because the Patriot keeps corrupting. I've lost so much, thanks to the patriot SD. The one week I turned off Titanium Media Sync is the one week my SD card freaked out. LOL That'll teach me to turn off backup.
Anyway, I'll post up the results from both cards if I have time.

FYI, SanDisk's having a black Friday sale. the 32gb micro sdhc is $50 on their site. can't make out what class from the pic on my mobile.

I would have bought SanDisk if I could find a class 10 micro SD, but I couldn't find ANYONE who sold a SanDisk 32GB class 10.
I think that pretty much all 32GB Class 10 MicroSDs are garbage and SanDisk doesn't want to tarnish their name.
On the flip-side, I've found that the Samsung is just as fast on my Sensation as the Patriot, which is fine. I never had a problem with speed. Lets see how long this one lasts, though.

128GB Micro SD Memory Card real or fake.

I found out about two weeks ago there was a 128 gb micro sd out, and it was going for $200, but if you pre ordered it with Amazon you only paid $119.00, but you had to wait 4-6 weeks for it to be sent to you. I didn't have the extra funds in my account to get this.
So i said to myself i'll wait, and get it when i have to extra cash to spend. Now that i have it, Amazon is no longer selling it at that price.

I found out about two weeks ago there was a 128 gb micro sd out, and it was going for $200, but if you pre ordered it with Amazon you only paid $119.00, but you had to wait 4-6 weeks for it to be sent to you. I didn't have the extra funds in my account to get this.
So i said to myself i'll wait, and get it when i have to extra cash to spend. Now that i have it, Amazon is no longer selling it at that price.

But i found this on Newegg and i wonder if it's, because i can't find this product on the web.
But if it is, it's only $69.95 with extras....Please reply and help me make a choice.

Here are my rules with buying flash:
1) "never buy flash sd or micro sd from online retailer. Period!
2) only buy flash sd or micro sd from a store with an excellent return policy such as bestbuy or futureshop.
Yes you'll pay premium dollar but the reality is there are fake memory cards everywhere and the retalers don't even know they are selling it and if they don't even know they are selling it, good luck proving it!
Also 69 is way too good to be true! you need at least clash 10 on android and and heck Sandisk is the only memory card manufacturer that has proven their use on android, if it not Sandisk, forget about it!
I hate fake memory cards, worst thing about them is how much time you invest in trying to fix them! You spend the first week in denial that you could possibly been sold a fake memory card and spend all this time formatting and re-formatting them with different applications and operating systems, try different roms, different kernel combinations, posting help because your rom is acting buggy, lose data? and all the while reason for all your woes has been due to using a fake memory card.

Very probably fake, i was buying mine twp months ago and the one with the largest storage was 64 gb. More than enough for 99% of uses.

That wouldn't even work for our phone. You going to use it on the Find 7 or something?

I got mine from Amazon for the $119 price a couple of weeks ago. I formatted it to Fat32 with 8k clusters...no issues at all. Card is detected at proper size and is detected in custom recovery fine also.

I've bought them from Amazon.
They need to be sold and shipped by Amazon.
I've had one fail. No issues was able to get a new one.

the one sold on new eggs is fake, anything at 64gb or above are micro sdxc, not micro sdhc as stated.

Works just fine, as has been shown numerous times. At the moment the specsheet for the S4 was made there were no 128GB cards.
So I assume you just looked at the specs to get that (wrong) assumption?

128GB SD cards will work with our phones with a SD to MicroSD adapter. i use one now.
in fact it will go up to 256GB
NOTE must be formatted to Fat32 to best compatability, also depending on your kernel.

Sandisk are making some (soon) though?

The 128GB card works on the S4, even though I have mine in my Note 3.

It's back at $119....but they won't ship out til they arrive.
So pre order.

Newegg price says $69......wtf?
obviously scammers. 3rd party selling through newegg.

I believe he was talking about the Samsung from Newegg. This is definitely fake. As said before, anything above 32GB is SDXC, not SDHC like in the picture. Also Samsung has not yet releases 128GB. Also, look at the picture. "12" is of a different font /size than "8". The reviews for the seller "Redtagonline" has 2 stars out of 5. Just preorder from Amazon. Make sure you format it as either Fat32, or eXFat if your Kernel supports exFat

Have you actually copied files/data to it to fill it to its advertised capacity?
Sent from my rooted GS4 running GoldenEye 26 while holding a homebrew.

Man, Amazon still advertising @ $119 but been out of stock forever.

I have the Sandisk 128gb from Amazon in my S4, it works great without problem.
The micro sd to SD card adapter that comes with the micro SD did not work with either PC or Mac, so I had to plug my card into my card reader instead, which worked fine.

I've had better luck with returns with Amazon than with Worst Buy which will never get my business again. To each his own.
