Hi guys,
I have recently purchased 32gb kingston's class 4 micro sdhc card and encountered a problem with it. Basically the problem is that when I put more than 1.8gb of music on the card everything above that just doesnt get recognised. It is shown in the music player but when you click to play it says "file format is not supported". Another example is if I have 1.8gb of music and try to put a video on the card it says that "format is not supported" aswel. The strangest thing is that it plays music for few seconds then it crashes. At first I thought that it could be a fake memory card but I used h2testw to check the capacity of the memory card and it worked without any issues.

Did you let h2testw completely finish? Because it will write all 32GB of data but reading the data is when it finds the problem.

I actually havent I did it up to 12gb gunna let it do it now for whole 32gb. I still think that it is the phone issue. Still ill let it run through out and post the results
You have to let it finish, it'll try and write 32GB since the card is programmed to show 32GB. But really all it's doing is overwriting existing data (if it's fake). So when h2testw starts to read the data, that is when it'll find if your card is real. It'll tell you how much your card can really hold.
If bought from eBay there is a high possibility that it is a fake, unfortunately.
Thanks yvrRome I did let it finnish and it turns out it is fake... it only wrote 1.8gb and the rest was corrupted, this means its fake. This actually good news because this means that its not my phones fault. And Nivki I did bought this from ebay and to make it worse its second time ive been scammed on ebay purchasing 32gb micro sd in a row lesson for me purchase things like these from retail shops
It could also be just a bad card. I would still recommend buying from a retail shop, though.
Newegg now has the Kingston class 4 32gb MicroSD cards for just over $100.
Ebay + Kingston + 32GB + Honk Konk + China
1/10 its a fake .
jje
only buy from reputable store sources
never buy SD cards from ebay 99.99999999999999999999% they are fake
In the whole city of melbourne, there is nothing over 8gb class 2 card. What a sad place where i live...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I bought from ebay 16gb card, had a similar problem.all files above 1gb were non supported format. I bought a sd reader and connected it to a pc,using usb... same problem,I.e. card is defected.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I received a card today that was bought from eBay, i figured if i bought a brand named card(Kingston) that the chance of it being counterfeit was lower. I began to sync my samsung Vibrant with Double Twist and only about 20% of the songs were transferred.
I tried re-formatting the memory card in Windows 7 and the capacity is somehow reset to only 2GB...THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I've seen this happen. After that i try inserting the card into my phone and it' shows space unavailable... 2 PCs won't read it either.
Something this unreliable has to be fake. I recommend running a test with H2testw 1.4 to tell you if it's genuine or not.
Also, Kingston can actually verify your card for you. Maybe useful if you want to ask the sellers for info on the back of the sd card package first before buying! Good Luck
****KINGSTON MEMORY VERIFIER****
BTW- are 32gb cards just really unreliable should I go with 16GB ? I have a vibrant running ginger clone.
thanks for the link http://www.kingston.com/asia/verifyflash/
very handy for future purchases.... but it'll eventually be cracked by the counterfeiters people in time and generate fake "real" keys that passes the test

i think u own a fake card
Most of the memory cards bought from eBay are fake, unfortunately. I've came across a lot of victims as I work in a Kingston service centre.
I feel sorry for TS
Ebay = need to reasearch seller a little
I have bought quite a few memory cards and usb flash drives from ebay and I have never had an issue however, I do a little 'reasearch' before I click on buy.
I always look at ALL of the seller's negative and neutral feedback. This gives you a really good idea if they are selling legitimate ones. Also look at how much crap they sell, if they have only sold a few items sold I would go some where else.
I usually single out a few 'sellers' that sell a LOT of brand name memory cards. I also list items from the most expensive first to the cheapest, usually all the dodgy stuff ends up way back at the end. Being from australia I also filter it out so that i only see items that are goign to be shipped from Australia (double check feedback to see if theres any indication items are shipped from china/hong kong)
Just like kingston, I beleive sandisk also have something on their website to confirm if you bought a legitimate card.
i bought A DATA 32GB Class 4 from Amazon USA and it's good , but i recommend class 10

Can this SD card be used for XDA2/MDA2? This can transfer write 9Mb/s, and read up to 10Mb/s. Does XDA2/MDA2 support this format speeds?
If yes, is it better to buy this than just a regular SD cards? Because I saw it on the net that they have a sale on this card that almost the same price compare to regular SD card. Less than $70 after rebate.(256Mb)

I´ve got an SanDisk SD card with 256 MB since 2 Years and didn´t have any Problem with it....
Stefan
PS: Why are you using capital Letters?
There are no problem with sandisk... You can easily use Sandisk!
The Sandisk ultra II will work with XDA2, but I don't know if the XDA2 will write 9MB/s and read the 10MB/s. It will then simply just speed down..
I hope that helps you a bit.
btw, the prize difference is not that big.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it.
@Deathrow: Thanks for the tip!
nothing wrong with sandisk their cards are the most compatable brand out.
ive had my 256mb sandisk too for nearly a year never had one problem with erase or dataloss :\
if only that site delivered to the uk id buy one of them
I have the a 256 MB Scandisk too for over 14 months and had no problems with it.
My brother in law bought a 128 mb sandisk SD card from the US.. and the first time he opened it, tried it - it didn't work. Devices cant read the card, he tried it on a lot of devices, tried formatting it and still cannot be read.. since it was bought from the US, he has no way of returning it..
i agree with the prvious post, that panasonic sd cards are better

so in other words it was faulty? so you compare a faulty card to that of a working one
the sense in that :|
Yes.. its faulty and its a sandisk... get that? I have also browsed through other forums where they have a lot of problems with the sandisk card...
Lexar and Panasonic SD cards are better than Sandisk , in other words, SD cards "made in Japan" are really the best !
After 2 SD Sandisk with the same problem as above (I was happy, as I've bought them in a store in my town, I returned them ..) , I buy only , Lexar or Panasonic , no problem and really fast ...
SANDISK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????
I'm in Nigeria where there is no right of return, so you can guess my grief when I shelled out a lot of cash to buy a sandisk 256Mb SD card that turned out to be bad. Since then I buy ONLY lexar. A word is enough for the wise, as the yorubas will say!
I do use few Sandisk SD cards (from 64MB to 512MB) .... and so far so good
regards, monika
SanDisk Ok? not sure...
I bought last year a 256mo SanDisk but after one month, it dead :'(
The seller sent to me another one and all seems to be OK for 1 year.
For me Sandisk is not ok
I comared the speed of a Sandisk 128MB and some others (i.e. delkin).
Sandisk had only half the Speed (with USB Reader) than the others.
As I tried to open a 4Meg Pocketstreets map from the Sandisk Card on the XDA1 - Pocketstreets hang.
It worked with all other Cards
I'll never by a Sandisk again!!

Suprperry: Just for your info, I live in Australia, and ordered a SD ULTRA II 256MB to use with my XDAII. Got it off an ebay store called aussiememory. I recived it 2 days ago, and have had not a single problem. In terms of the faster speeds, I did a quick benchmark with Pocket Mechanic (I just put it on, havent fiddled enough yet), and I was only getting something like 1.4MB/s, or something like that, for read. Like I said, I havent mucked around with the program, and Im sure there is 1 specific test to accurately test the speeds. When I find out properly, I will post.
Also, this pocket mechanic is a great tool for the XDAII. You can select any type of format, memory scan and repair, defragment, etc, all while your card is in the device. I used it on the ULTRAII in the XDAII, and you just have to have it on permanent power while you use any tests in pocket mechanic.

Thanks for the info m8! And thanks for the tip on pocket mechanic, really appriciate your effort!
THANKS guys for all the input/comments on this particular card, really appriciate it!
Sandisk seem to be slower in comparison and it seems also that either their quality control is sloppy or lots of rejects are being recycled on the market by dealers, it reminds me of a guy selling Intel cpu chips cheap, turned out they were all from the reject skip, gave Intel a bad name around here but it wasnt their fault really.
SD Memory Card - Problems - Data Loss
I'm using the SD card on a PDA (XDA 2). After having successfully copied several mp3 files and also loads of pictures on to the card, the next day, they just disappeared. I this I noticed loss after I installed an applic like BatteryPack. The files I copied onto the card used up quite a lot of space on the card and there was just 50MB remaining. The card is still showing 50MG remaining, but there is no sign of the MP3s or the pictures I copied onto it.
Can anyone help me? May be the card is faulty. Is there a way of formatting the card so that at least I can reclaim the 256MB of memory? I'm using ActiveSync to access the card on my PC. I can see it in explorer but cannot format as option to format is not there.
I am worried about it's (SD Card's) realibility now. If I use it for storing new pictures or other important files and loose them like I just have, that would be very annoying.
Thanks in advance - Ustad

Hi!
a few weeks ago I bought myself a nice 16GB sd card on e-bay. The seller had 100% positive feedback on similar items, so I thought, this must be a nice guy. However, whenever I try to copy files to the desire after 2GB or so the transfer freezes and the file system of the card gets damaged, so I have to format it. Any suggestions as to how this could be explained/fixed? Otherwise I'm asking my money back (thank you paypal!)
i've a 16gb sandisk sdhc class 2 but never had such problems, maybe is something software related?
Ok heres the deal...
There is a chance the sandisk you purchased is not real, its fake, a 2GB reprogrammed to appear as 16GB. The packaging will appear perfectly real etc, due to the nature of memory carads returning them to sellers is near impossible as they will direct you to manufacturer.
The card might be damaged, have you tried a reformat, delete partition and recreate?
have you tested this in another machine?
+1 fake SD card. It's really hard to find legit SD cards on ebay

haha.
is there any reason why i shouldn't get the pny 16gb card from play.com? its £7 cheaper than the sandisk
It's your choice mate. I've had bad experiences with Sandisk cards in the past and only buy Kingston ones now.
i had the same issue with a 16gb kingston...package and all was 16gb, but it was a very slow 8gb...thrown it away.
Its seems more and more of the 16Gb cards from ebay are fake.
Have heard more and more reports of this recently.
I've had the same issue with large cards coming from eBay, so I'd decided not to be a cheapskate again and plumped for the best 16GB I could find.
Scan dot co dot uk
LN32905 - Kingston 16GB Class10
I also picked up an 8GB card for my Hero (Legendroid):
LN32725 - Transcent 8GB Class6
Haven't regretted it at all, however the price of the 16GB is a LOT.
Yeah i'd be looking to get a refund on that, sometimes the seller isn't at fault though, it could be that his/her supplier has a fake batch of cards. This is getting more and more frequent and a quick google search will show many horror stories as well as ways of checking to see if your card is actually a fake.
My advice would be to stay clear of ebay for memory and buy from a reputable distributor like play.com or mymemory.com
I purchased a sandisk 16GB ultra mobile (class4) from mymemory.com, think it was around the £45 mark at the time. Currently using around 9GB of it with no issues. Also transfers files much faster than the 4GB class2 that my desire was bundled with.
I am also having this kind of trouble with a Sandisk 16GB card.
The possibility that it is fake is very small for 3 reasons:
1. It works perfectly as a 16GB at my computer
2. It works perfectly as a 16GB at my camera
3. It was bought at the Sandisk master distributor here in Israel.
I tried to format it in the following way:
1. In recovery mode I partitioned the card.
2. I upgraded ext2 -> ext3 and then again ext3 -> ext4
3. took the card to the computer and formatted it FAT32.
4. copied the material from the old card to the new one.
And still, when I try to turn the Desire on with this card on it, it stays booting forever.
I am using REDUX Gingerbread rom.... is there something I am missing?
Thanks in advance,
Helio

use gparted / any partition manager to check whether you have duplicate ext partitions, it causes freeze, and make sure both fat and ext are "primary" drives and not "logical" drives

When you've copied the material from the old card to the new one... did you copied all partitions with a nandroid restore (and not just fat32 partition) ?
I just bought a 16GB card on ebay for £20 delivered, class 6. He specifically said it would meet the class 6 spec so I will Paypal him if it doesn't. I'll also test it in linux by dd'ing all the way to the 16GB to ensure it works.
Will report back.
Its seems more and more of the 16Gb cards from ebay are fake.
My £20 delivered turned up. It's a Lexar (apparently) and testing shows;
write speed: 8.4mb/s
reading: 8.1mb/s
So I'm not sure, read speed should be higher!
Second time got 7.9mb/s and 15.2mb/s. I think it's legit.
Same happens to me!
Yeah I've been stung with a knock off SD card as have two of my friends. I was 'lucky' mine was just poor quality so it had really bad read/write speeds and was able to send it back. My friends cards just didn't work and they couldn't get refunds.
The cards on eBay are cheap for a reason, pay the extra and get it from a reputable retailer is my advice.

Not sure if this is the right forum, but looked like accessories was the best bet.
Im looking at 32G cards, but open to 16 as well. Just switched to Android, so would be good to know others experiences, and whether there is something I cannot do with a Class 4, for example or whether you see any lags with other cards you have used etc, or if a specific class is needed for using some specific feature?. I did do a search, and didnt find anything, maybe I missed it. Might be useful to have a thread regarding people's experiences..
Any suggestions/recommendations for what I should be looking at?
I have read that the Partiot/Adata/Wintec cards are not too reliable, though their prices for a class 10 are much lower..But I dont want to go through the hassle of returning/copying data, so I am thinking Class 4 is enough.
Here is one option, Sandisk 32g, doesnt say class 4, but some reviewers mention it is actually class 4. At the same time, some mention they got Class 2. Cannot post a link since I don't have 8 posts yet
Search for SDSDQ-032G-A11M, US Retail Package on Amazon, maybe someone else can add the link! Its for ~62, shipped from Amazon.
Thanks for your help!
This is what I bought.

Thanks cableguychad!
Anyone else have suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
I'm rocking the Patriot LX series 16gb as well. Class 10 and with transfers(usually 3-5 gigs) I'm hovering around 8-9mb/s.
EDIT: If you live by a Frys Electronics, I picked mine up there for $32.
I have the Patriot 8 GB Class 10 from FRYS. I'm getting speeds of ~11 Mbps.
I think it would be better to go with a 16 GB class 10 (~30 for Patriot class 10), than a 32 GB that's close to three times the cost of a 16 GB.
I just got this one, so far it seems to perform well enough. It's only a class 6 and it was writing at about 8-9 megs. Not too bad IMO.

You can't go wrong with this one. Great deal.
Many of my buddies have had 32GB MicroSD cards and a lot have malfunctioned. Never really had issues with 2-16GB MicroSD
Dont get HP brand, I had a hell of a time making a gold card because it kept getting corrupted. Format took forever to do as well.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
I took the 16g card out of my Epic and it works great its a class 2 I formatted it 1st and no problems. So it seems Samsung cards are good.
i bought a Wintech 16GB class 10 off newegg for $28. Out of curiosity, will the format SD card function in clockwork recovery work to just format it so I can use it? Or should I do a full format on a pc, why do you need to format before use? Why cant you just pop it in and go? Does HTC format the sd card before they ship all these phones to the carriers/customers? Just curious, thanks for input.
I've recently been having a great experience using Kingston 8 gig class 4 cards to record hd video.
To check the card speeds on pc I use CrystalDiskMark 3.
There is also an android app called SDTools that will show card information.
I also use SD Formatter 3 from sdcard.org to format my cards.
Another tool to find out if your cards are what they claim to be is H2testw. It checks capacities, corruption and read/write speeds.
Just an update, got the card in the mail, so far so good, dont know any way to test the speeds but i tryed two apps, one said it maxed out at 20mbs and the other 14mbs, so i dunno how acurate thise numbers are but all seems well!

Just pop it into computer, and format it as FAT 32, and use it. Generally all cards are pre-formatted when manufacturer sends u out. But I reformat it before first use to make sure its in the FS as per my preferences .
I bought a cheap 16gb card on ebay
I'm sure it's a counterfeit Sandisk. I've had it at least a year. I only paid twenty bucks for it back when 16gb cards were 50 bucks. It's only class 2. I used it for a long time with my Tilt 2 without any problems, even though I store 10gb of music on it. Now I'm using it in my Inspire. I tested it using the SD tools app. The write speed is 11.6 and the read speed is 20.4. Sometimes those numbers fluctuate slightly, but that's what it tested just now. It does fine with HD video. About once a week I was getting a disk error on my phone in which the card was becoming unmounted, particularly when I would use google navigation. I used SDFormatter 3, the one mentioned in the post above, and I turned on "format size adjustment", and the error hasn't happened in a while. I appeciate the poster who mentioned the software. It seems to work better than the native Windows 7 formatter on my pc.
Here's a link to a 32gb class 4 for sell right now on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/32-GB-Micro-SD-...906?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2564d3c83a
Cards with the exact same generic blue and white packaging are abundant on ebay today from 17 to 30 bucks. Most are receiving good reviews. I may take a gamble. You never know.
Update: Ha ha. I asked the above seller if the card had been tested for capacity and speed. The reply was "Card no is fake. It real." lol
i wanna 32
hi, i looking for a 32 gb, i saw a wintec 32 class 10 but heard alot of bad reviews. i bought a trancend 32gb online for $45, turned out it was a bad card. thank god for paypal, told them my problem, got a refund. now for father's day, i wanna 32gb any suggestions? thanks. btw, does the diff class speeds make a big diff? i mainly put music in it. thanks again.
I'm wondering what I should do with my 128gb card.
I got one off ebay that says it will work in phones (just MicroSD 128gb, no brand on anything, the package even just had a foldover piece of plastic on the front. I'm guessing, since the seller is in the US, he just bought a generic lot and gambled he could sell them fast. That makes me want to push it around the block as hard as I can, as rapidly as I can so I can return it if need be. I bet he won't be on ebay in a few weeks, but since he is now, ebay can wield a pretty fierce club on sellers who sell non-working junk. The seller says it is Fat32 formatted.
Anyway I put it in my wifi 12.2 and it shows up as 125gb free, but I can't put anything on it through the device (PC over USB 3.0 can see the card but won't transfer files or make a folder; I can't create a folder via Zarchiver or ES File Explorer), but some programs have written to it (firefox, google, flipboard... but can't save to it firefox and quickpic can't save there). I'm NOT rooted (so no fix).
I'm trying to figure out if it is the generic nature of the card, or if it is just that I don't have root yet and have not applied the fix. If it were a 64gb card I would not be too worried (I would think it is the kitkat issue), but it is the 128gb card so I don't know. An OP has said that they had problems with generic 64gb cards being fake (I admit I have not done the research on fake micro sd cards), so this makes me worry a bit.
I just want to make sure that the card works so I don't have to return it. I'll try out a new 32gb card I have tonight and I'll try it in the adapter just with my PC to see if I can read from it on the 12.2 tonight, then I guess I'll root (Yea LMT!!!).
I'm open to any suggestions you might have for me.
Sounds like a fake card to me.

I'm running H2testw on the card right now and should know in about three hours if it is fake or not. Registering as 125gb free when the real deal registers 119gb free is not seeming like its going to work out as real, but you never know.
Fake card, the 32gb card I have works just fine. Looks like the real sandisk cards are all sold out on amazon.

Thanks!!! I checked April 1 and it was priced $239 or something, checked back and amazon now has it for $119 again (out of stock preorder).
I contacted the seller and said that it was tested defective and appeared to be counterfeit and I wanted a refund and not to pay shipping. He refunded my purchase within 24 hours and said I didn't need to ship it back. Said something about being new and had to check his stock, I have not posted anything yet as far as feedback. The package said "starage" instead of storage, big tipoff in retrospect.
AFIK sandisk is the only 128gb micro card maker right now so I don't think there are any knock offs yet.
I used the test program and it took like 8 hours to finish, but it was bad.
Hope that was helpful to others, just 128gb are not on ebay yet IMHO, happy to be wrong, but I don't think so at the time of posting.
Anyone having issues with using a 128gb micro sd card? I bought one from ebay (not Sandisk) and formated to fat32. Phone recognizes card without issues but there are issues saving stuff to the card. Here's a few of them:
My podcast app folder is on the card and often it gives me an error saying feed had an error saving eipsode.
Also had issues having Titanium Backup folder on the sd card, not saving the latest backup.
Did a nandroid backup with TWRP which gave me no errors but when I went to look for the backup, it was not there.
Tried using sd card as default picture folder but noticed some pictures I was taking not being stored.
Anyways, if you have a Sandisk 128gb on your S5 let me know if it's running smoothly. If so, I'll bite the bullet and spend the $$$ to buy the sandisk.
Uhh there is issues writing to EXT SD.

I applied the update with the NextApp SDFix app to fix that issue.

Try formatting on the phone
Send from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5
I didn't think anyone but Sandisk made a 128Gb microsd card. You should verify that it is *actually* 128Gb instead of a smaller card just reporting 128.
*edit* Upon further reading, that looks like the classic fake card scam. It is actually a smaller card like an 8Gb, where it simply overwrites data after the first 8Gb is used.

Thanks, but I tried that already with no success. I already purchased the SanDisk version. Now I have to wait for Amazon to ship it once they put it back in stock. For the mean time, I'm using my old 64gb SanDisk from my S3.

I had big problem when formatting a 64GB card to FAT32. You should stick to exFAT.
Only buy memory products from reputable vendors. If you buy on Amazon, make sure it is "sold by Amazon.com". I bought a fake Sandisk card from a 3rd party store on Amazon.

Yeah sounds like you bought a "hacked" card. Pretty classic on eBay when new classes and sizes of cards come out.

Hi,
Care to expound on the "hacked" card?
I've actually seen some of those 128gb generic microsd cards being sold on ebay for $49.
seller seems to have almost 2000 positive feedback.
Might just wait for the sandisk one to be sure.

Hacked was a poor word choice, but frauds terms have been reprogramming smaller flash storage storage so to show as larger ones and selling them on ebay for sometime. As far as I know only Sandisk is making and selling them, so generic branded cards throws a red flag. With sizes like that, it would take sometime typically before the fraud is detected.

Forgot where I read on the S3 that the 64GBshould have been formated to fat32, but I never had problems after doing so. And it was an original sandisk microsd card.
And yes, I bought it from the Sandisk amazon store, fullfilled by amazon under amazon prime. It will arrive tomorrow and I'll post back here confirming if it works or not.

Exactly the one I purchased from ebay, thinking I was saving 80% from the originals from SanDisk. And I left a positive feedback for seller on ebay because I got the card 3 days after paying for it before I tested it out to see the problems. My mistake.
One thing I would like to point out though is that the card itself never gave me problems when connected to a PC via adapter. It would show its content and save whatever I added to without any problems. The issue was the card properly functioning inside the phone, as I listed on the OP.

I had two 64GB Sandisk cards fail withing a month or two after I formatted them to FAT32 and used in S3. I had to do it because I was on a kernel without exFAT support. Sandisk replaced both cards under warranty. I chatted with their tech support, and they couldn't tell me if FAT32 is officially supported, Their response was "people on XDA say it works"
Anyway, the card you ordered will come exFAT formatted, and currently I see no reason to change formatting to FAT32.

I bought a samsung 64gb class 10 on amazon. $30'ish
Got the new sandisk 128gb today and I can confirm it works flawlessly. Therefore, the problem was with the cheap and genetic card sold on ebay. Thanks everyone for your feedback and assistance on the matter.:good:
I have a 128 GB "successfully" running in my Sprint Galaxy S5 (900G) here. Lately it has been very stable. Up until about a month ago once every couple weeks it would seemingly flakes out, and any apps I had installed there had translucent icons ... I'd have to format and remounted to be recognized.
But for the last 3-4 months I've had no issues with it. I can move apps to it (at least some, others can move with an associated risk the app describes, and some cannot at all - I use App Manager III and I don't move apps that show up but have the warning "x" on them - )
I've had no issues mounting or having it recognized, or running apps from it asidre from the flakiness I described, which is probably because it is a class 10 speed - it's a very small space for 128 GB to function, the thing runs HOT, if you use some kind of dual-layer case the heat could be your issue (if there is still an issue there). Let me know!
