why no gvideo app - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

not sure if theirs some restrictions, but just curious why their arent any apps that support video chat with google video. I know only 2 phones in the us (evo and epic) have front cameras and both on same carrier. but Id love to see an app like this.

I don't see the point with fringe and Qik.
... and the Iphone has a front camera too, right?

well first I know alot of people that use google video but not on their phone since the phone they have doesnt support it. Plus everyone already has a google account with an android phone. Plus it'll just better interconnect the whole google/google talk experience.

How to Fix a front camera for At & T FUZE

I just wondering Is there way to fix a front camera to at & t fuze using any hardware changing
Yes. There is. But no point. You would need the following:
OEM Fuze molded front cover of touch pro to see the front camera. (Or be ghetto and cut a hole through your front cover)
OEM VGA camera used in the touch pro
Like every other HTC phone, the front camera disabled phones have a socket for the front camera, but there is no camera. If you could find a dead touch pro that someone is selling for parts, buy the camera and it's possible. I don't know how to enable it software wise though.
Why in the world would they remove the front camera anyway? Does it really cost that much more for the front camera?

Pick 2 of the below:
1. It cuts them a little cost
2. AT&T doesn't support video calling so no point
3. Because they wanted to?
but At & T has one way live video sharing
I always see a few of these posts come up but i always also hear how video calling isn't as popular as we'd like. It's not implemented in the US even though they could have and where it is available it's still partially a flop.
Remove it i say!
I think the video calling its not popular in us, any us wireless company doesn't offer video calling and I would say video sharing is not popular either in us. Even thought someone traveling all round the world it might be very impotent. Specially, if they would offer international video calling.
so I'm saying keep this thread
Because, somebody who wants video calling can use this thread as help to enable video calling. Specially European and Asian they can use FUZE as global roaming phone with 3G coz touch pro doesn't have all HSDPA/WCDMA 850/900/2100/1900 MHz and keep their video calling.
as example like our member kraize he can use 3g feature in usa and go to India and use video calling and my self too
Confrencing
Hey Guys I own a Unbranded Tytn II Dual Camera And a Htc Fuse The us Wont see Video Confrencing Untill late 09 2010 But I posted a App on Xda Called Ivisit Just becuase no Us network Supports it Don't mean it can't Work Go to www.ivisit.com it is Full live Video Confrencing for Windows mobile And Mac/Pc And it Works Great If you only have one Camera it will be hard to keep turning the phone around unlike me with my Tytn II But Hey it's Still Real Confrencing ...So Check out Ivisit And yea Att wan'ts to Cut Cost if a Front Camera is not Needed
WTF? the FUZE has a front video camera?
where have i been?
Can we use tytn II front cam for Htc fuze I have seen they selling kaiser front cam on eBay can anybody find out is that work and if it is work then we have the front cam driver also i think
I like ivisit its awesome it is the best solution for the video calling problem in US

sorry but i gotta correct u on that ..
last week i went to a seminar for marketing directors in washington d.c, and i was able to do the whole "video call" with my wife and daughter when it was time for my daughter to go to bed.
worked OK..not perfect but it got the job done.

I believe Kraze is talking about 2 way video calling which is why the non-US versions of TP have the front facing camera.

Yeah. I was talking about 2 way conferencing. and did you just video call from dialer? Or did you use 3rd party software?
If you want to go the other way, AT&T B2B sells a version of the Fuze with both cameras removed
Just a carry a pocket mirror!
Just carry a pocket mirror and have the mirror reflect your phone screen image. You can see the person at the other end this way on the mirror. Low tech solution to a hitech problem
I wonder why AT & T do not offer two way video calling. Can some one tell me Why is this at & t do not offer 2way video calling. I think whole Europe & Asia has two way video calling
There is a point
Although ATT or any other US wireless carrier may not support video conferencing, you can always use the vga camera for skype mobile, or any other reason people use a camera on themselves. People like to take pics of themselves for whatever reason, facebook, myspace, etc. , but it is a piece of hardware that makes the phone so popular, I think. Thats just me, I dont know how anybody else feels about that.

No, you can't.
i have an idea why not just wait until an actual two way conferencing phone comes out in the US. Its a good concept but i would rather have it come with the phone instead of rigging it that way
New HTC Touch Pro
Hi guys, i have a new touch pro "GSM" and made a rom update with energy rom 3.0, I am not able to make video calls or receive any. Can any 1 tell me a way to do this...... My GSM Network supports Video calls

No NETFLIX for Thunderbolt?

I just saw a video on Engadget stating that The netflix app need PRE-INSTALLED keys on a snapdragon chip. And if thee keys arent installed by OEM you cant play netflix on the phone.
Way to go Android!!
I guess iphone has had the keys for a year now! Wow Steve Jobs has these companys by the balls!
Fragmentation sux!!! Now im second guessing getting the thunderbolt.
The TB isn't even out yet so don't make assumptions, besides I'm sure it still possible in the long run
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Check the video on engadget. Also the app is months away. So it 100% the keys arent installed. The guy in the video clearly states that the HTC EVO cant do Netflix!
HUGE BUMMER!!! Windows Phone 7 has netflix and with a 00001% user base but android doesnt???
Come on man!!

The app not being out yet has nothing to do with the keys being installed or not. Qualcom has stated that there chips will support Netflix, not sure where you are getting that the keys will "100% not be installed".
Also the chip in the EVO is completely different from the one in the TB. The TB has the 2nd Gen SnapDragon. So the EVO not being able to do Netflix has nothing to do with the TB being able to do it or not.
The problem with Android is it may be less secure, you know with people hacking apps and flash, help we have hulu for free on Android because of it so maybe netflix is a bit weary
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I remember a quote saying that qualcomm chips would be the first to see Netflix on android. I imagine it's possible that they've been installing the required keys on the latest processors, but that kind of forward-thinking benevolence doesn't seem very realistic, unfortunately.

Its just heart breaking man. I really dont give a snot about netflix but its the point....i want the option. WP7 doesnt deserve it!!!!

I would think though that they have been talking about this since it was in development, this has probably been in development for a year or two at least. I don't think Netfix is going to release an app for android without the phones to support it. That would be horrible for business, you would want the most amount of people possible to be able to use your product.
Its the fragmentation and Androids unwillingness to protect The DEV's products with DRM and such
What is the big issue with hulu and netflix? Surely there are alternate places to get your TV show fix since we have flash enabled, right?
i am on the iphone 4 but looking to get the thunderbolt or bionic and this is one of the reasons i dont want to switch yet i know its a small reason but i'd rather love the phone than like it
According to the spec sheet, I picked up today from Verizon, VOD will include Blockbuster.
Netflix only requires DRM security on the chipset which the TB has. However, I dont think Froyo supports DRM as the DRM SDK/API is only available on Gingerbread and Honeycomb. I dont know if there's a software work-around for this though. I'd expect the TB to have Gingerbread by summer and Netflix is still a few months out from release anyhow... plenty of time...
Actually i think netflix streams a video........blockbuster app downloads it then plays it. I had it on my droid x....you pay per flick..... its not a monthly thing.... Complete garbage and the wait was horrible.
CHOPES: That's not the issue. Absolutely there are other places which are...dubious at best. The issue is that Android (meaning Google) doesn't want to stand up to the MPAA who are putting pressure on Netflix to make sure the environment is locked down against all us "thieves" out there. ;-)
It's the same attitude that linux users, myself included, have to battle all the time. Just because we choose to use an OS that's not there's and some people have busted their copy protection that means all of us will do that.
I'd blame delays in the software development as much as on the handset development. I would sure hope that ANY 4G phone would be capable of streaming Netflix eventually even if they currently aren't.

I would agree that once the software is sorted out the TB oughta be able to do it. this article http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/16/lg-revolution-dumps-tegra-2-chooses-1ghz-snapdragon-msm8655-ins/ says that lg used the Revolution as their phone to demo Netflix, AND it is using the exact same Snapdragon (MSM8655) that's in the Thunderbolt, so it seems to me that the Thunderbolt should have the DRM stuff in the chipset too .

1) This isn't just a phone, "it's your phone after your next phone" -- couldnt resist, sorry....
2) Some people come in here and laugh at people who want to play games on their "phone" and say that's what a PSP or DS is for....
Really, it isn't just a "phone" or everyone here, including you, would own a standard flip phone. We buy and pay for these phones to get the MOST that we can out of them. We want a do-it-all phone... or at least the best that current tech can provide.
10 years ago, people were paying $200+ for portable 4-5" TV players.
With all your posts, I cant believe you'd come crashing into this thread so harsh-like.
edit: ALSO you're a rom builder, the elite of users who want the most of their phone... that makes your harsh statement that must more odd and confusing.

Xperia play or droid incredible 2?

I am torn between these two, and I have no idea which to pick. I do see the Play only has a VGA FFC, and the Droid Inc 2 has a 1.3Mp FFC, which I would like to know, would you really see a difference in video quality between the two?? That is a big thing for me.
Please help!
Thanks.
If you're looking for a device to play games and emulators with, the Play all the way.

The Droid Incredible 2 has the better camera for video chat and whatever else you would use a front facing cam for. I would only go with the Xperia Play if you're a big gamer but if not I would stick with HTC Droid Incredible 2...even if neither have 4G support
You dont seem to care about 4g data?
4g is needed for smooth video chat!
Unless your on wifi.
THUNDERBOLT
Here are the facts: The Play is the ONLY phone (at least, the only recent phone from a well-known manufacturer) that features a gamepad. IF you want to play games on your phone, the Play is the only way to go. Yes, it does not have the best camera and SE kind of jips you on the internal memory, but if you want a gaming device, the Play is your only serious option. Even though I bricked mine the other day (note, if you are going to unlock the bootloader on the Play, DO NOT upgrade the firmware-- you will brick your phone. Even after unbricking, your phone's radio will not work and you will not be able to make calls), I can say that up until the bricking happened, the phone was great. My only complaint was that I had to be somewhat selective about the apps I had on my phone to avoid wasting memory.
Now, if you want a phone that probably does everything really well except play games, stick to the Droid.

Am I mad?

I've been an Android user for the best part of 5 years, seeing a steady improvement of OS and supporting apps. While the Galaxy Range has got better and better.
I'm currently using a Galaxy S4, but for whatever reason i'm being drawn towards the Nokia Lumia 1020. My partner wants one because "it's a Nokia" while I'm interested because of the Camera. I'm a DSLR user so this isn't for instagramin' me breakfast, it's to capture great photos at concerts and videos and general stuff which I plan to blog up. My other reasoning is I'm very fond of my Surface Pro, which is again a Windows device and I can't put it down, so am I mad? Will having a Windows phone have any real benefit with a Surface?
My greatest concern is the store that is less than lacking from my initial research with what i'd call basic apps are missing, youtube, twitter to name but a few. This concerns me, but being a window phone n00b you smart people maybe able to enlighten me to alternative options which don't come from the origin of the app.
I suppose what I'm really asking is did you switch from an Android and what did you miss and what can you not live without since you switched.
My current plan is to get a 1020, tether it to my surface and use windows 8 pro instead of apps on the phone and use the phone for texts calls and the camera.
Any and all help welcome.
My concern also are the lack off apps on windows phones vs the enormous google play store.
But those apps you mentioned as an example (youtube, twitter) are available. Just as facebook, skype, wordfeud etc are.
I dont have a windows phone, but these apps are listed when I search the windows phone app store online.
Most are not from the website makers with some being rubbish or nothing more than a front end to the mobile version. This is one of my concerns as a lot are not very good or cost money and still aren't very good.

Twitter is baked into the OS, but there is an official version (at least there is for WP 7.8). There are a number of third party apps for things like Youtube and Instagram that are a lot better than you'd think. Try Metrotube or Supertube apps for Youtube.
