[APP] Rotation Toggler - Android Apps and Games

Rotation toggler is essentially an auto-rotate screen toggler application that allows you to enable or disable android's auto-rotate feature. This is useful especially when you don't want the screen to change its orientation when say..you're reading an ebook or browsing a site and don't want your browser to change its orientation. Just long press on the search button and select "rotation toggler" or launch the application in your app drawer and toggle the auto-rotation on or off. It is just that simple! Don't forget to try my other free apps. Ad-supported (requires and uses internet connection ONLY if you launch the app via app drawer).
I created this app out of a request from my friend who wants an app to easily toggle the auto-rotation in his nexus one. Thought I'd share this app with the rest of the world, i'm sure someone will find it useful. Enjoy
You can download Rotation Toggler along with my other android apps here:
http://slideme.org/user/mlbl

You know there's already a free widget in the market that does this. And it doesn't have ads.
It's called "Autorotate OnOff" by Curvefish.

Mine is not a widget, its a replacement when u long press on the search button. so its an alternative. For instance you're in adobe reader, you just long press, select the rotation toggler and you're done. With a widget, you'd have to press the home button, toggle the widget.

I wonder whether you could do that it woulden't rotate the home screen, bot like the browser (ect.) would? And so I don't have to switch manual every time.

buttom customization would be nice (maybe long home press) as search button is being used by couple other apps (Quick Settings, Voice Search)

Actually if i'm not mistaken the stock home screen for most phones won't rotate, at least my n1 doesn't unless you're using a custom home screen like adw or launcher pro. Also this is not possible to disable just one part of the system such as the home screen or the browser. Its either off entirely for all or none at all.
kkssgg > Can't be done for other buttons, apps are not allowed to use other buttons for long pressing as it interfere's with its existing functions (home screen long press - switch apps, menu long press - keyboard, back button long press - well nothing but so far its not possible to long press a back button).

Awesome app! Thank you very much!

Thanks! Don't forget to try out my other apps, I believe you will find them useful too. Enjoy

Actually
long press Menu = Search
never really understood the redundancy. (Well, I guess it's not redundant on the international version without the dedicated search button.)

Just to notify everyone that my android apps have been added to the android market since Nov 1st 2010. Search for "Malcolm Lim" and you will find my apps there. Enjoy

Show keyboard for me.

New version of rotation toggler 1.15 uploaded to android market and slideme market:
http://slideme.org/user/mlbl
New in v1.15:
- New main interface look from app drawer
- Option to display notification icon for easy toggling of rotation
- Fixed several bugs
- Added donate button for donations

Hit me up,
I have an idea for an update that I started to build with app builder, but don't really have time to learn app builder that well although I have a pretty good prototype of how I want it to work... Funny I was using the same rotate icon as your app
Maybe we can make some bucks

[NEW APP] In-App Wifi Toggle

I've just released my first app to the market. I would appreciate if some people could test it for me on different Android versions/phones?
In-App Wifi Toggle
Once installed you can enable or disable your Wifi connection instantly from any context (ie in the Browser application, from the home screen) by either
a) Long pressing the Search button
b) Pressing the Call button
A nice toast message is displayed stating whether the Wifi connection was enabled or disabled.
I wrote this app because I was fed up of launching an app, realising it would benefit from Wifi being enabled, having to return to the home screen, activate Wifi with the Power Control widget, long press the home button and select the app again to return. This app bypasses all of that with a single button press and doesn't interupt the application you're already in.
Would appreciate your feedback! Thanks!
Great job on this, was thinking about it yesterday.
I long-pressed the search button, cause I prefer having my call button free if I have to make a call in a hurry.
Thanks for your feedback!
I would appreciate if people could tell me what phone/version and what button they are using to activate?
ATM Confirmed working on:
- Nexus One with Long Press of Search
- HTC Desire with Long Press of Search
- HTC G1 with Call Button
There are a lot of handsets out there that don't have a search button, which is why I wired up the call button as well. I appreciate that a lot of users would prefer to keep this wired to their main phone/contacts app however. I am currently looking into getting my app to hook the Camera button also but its not as easy as I would like.
Also, if you do find this app useful it'd be great if you could rate and leave a comment in the Android market, thx!
Also would anyone have any requirement for an equivalent app that toggles bluetooth or GPS? If so let me know, shouldn't be too hard to throw together.
On HTC Legend works OK with search button long press.

My attempt was on a HTC Magic on Cyanogen 2.0.7 test2
Confirmed working on my GSM Hero, rooted running Villain 5.3. It works using both long press search and call button. Good app, saves me having to go back to home screen to turn on/of wifi!
Edit: When in Sense UI, everytime I press the phone soft button or call hardware button, I get the "complete using action" dialogue, which asks me to chose whether I want to access the dialer or In-App Wifi Toggle. Is there anyway you can make it so that its disabled on the home screen or when in Sense?

When the "Complete using action" dialogue appears you should get a list of potential apps and also a check box labelled "Use by default for this action". If you mark the check box before selecting your desired app you won't be prompted for the app again.
Note also: Once you've selected a default, you can only clear it by going into "Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > [App in Questions]" and hitting the "Clear Defaults" button.

One can use Tasker (http://tasker.dinglisch.net/) to automatically have Wifi (or GPS, or whatever) enabled when using specific apps.
Why on certain apps when you can have it whenever you want from a simple press
Edit: works on sprint hero! Good job
WOW
Fantastic app!!! I've been waiting for this for a while!
I can confirm it works great on HTC Hero with FreshToast 2b2.
Long press call key as well as short press. I decided to keep short press going to the phone and long press for the wifi toggle.
THANK YOU!!! 5 Stars from me!
Works great on Desire. Nice job!!!

Great idea and app, thanks a lot!
Would definitely be able to make use of a GPS one as well on my Desire as I use RunKeeper a lot but hate having to turn GPS on and off all the time! There is a feature in the app to turn on GPS but it takes you to the phone security settings for some reason?
Cheers!
Fastest five stars I've ever given to something from the Market. Great job.
I was worried that it would affect my call button's usage but had totally forgotten that if Android has two different functions for the same button it asks you which function you want to use [and lets you set the default].
Long-press search button on myTouch 3G.
Great work!
Just thought I would let you know that I have now released "In-App Bluetooth Toggle" to the market now.
I have also added an "In-App Toggle Donate" version so that anyone who wants to say thanks can purchase for 99p. The donate app combines both the bluetooth and wifi apps into one. Any donations are gratefully recieved.
As always I appreciate any feedback.
I will be looking into a GPS toggle in the near future however this will take longer as some hacking is involved.
Installed on my Nexus One running CM 5.0.6, works with long-press on search button just fine.. thanks for the app, great idea.

Working as expected on my Sprint CDMA Hero running Fresh Toast 2.1 w/ custom GodMode x.29 kernel. Both long press shortcuts work (search and call).
As for an equivalent app, I don't really need bluetooth since I often have to re-open an app to get it to recognize a bluetooth connection I start after instead of prior to opening it. GPS on the other hand might be nice.
Thanks for the useful app! I was honestly thinking that an app like this would be great to have last week.
Okay, so the HTC Incredible has no call button, and a long press of the search button is defaulted to activating the voice input for search. How about a long press of the Back button (which is the only button that does not already have a long press function)?
Just installed on my HTC Incredible works with the long pressing of the search button. When you press the search button long it brings up (complete action using either the search or In-app wifi). It will turn on and off the wifi but doesn't connect the wifi stays in 3g mode. I have to go into settings/wireless & Networks/WI-FI settings and then it connects. So lets say if the WiFi is turned on and i use IN-APP WIFI it will turn it off just fine. If i try to turn it back on using IN-APP WIFI it will not revert unless i go into wifi settings. Great idea though sir i hope you can get it to work on the incredible
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Update i uninstalled it Cycled my phone off and on reinstalled it worked fine for awhile then went back to Lagging. Don't know if it conflicts with HTC's Wifi widget.
HTC Desire...All go
I have in stalled this on HTC desire (non rooted) and it seemless. Great job!

[REQUEST] [APP] Fast Home Long Press App?

I've been using http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.esdmobile.taskswitcher with a single Home button tap to activate, but I'm not a fan of the huge app previews. I'd like an icon only view (especially since it's 15 apps on one screen via CM6).
So I'm looking for an app that will open the Home Long Press by tapping the Home button once (ie NOT a long press), while still allowing use of LauncherPro etc. (A second tap would bring it back to the actual home screen.)
Does such an app exist?
have you tried quickdesk?
Power Strip is nice. It is so much more than just recent apps though. But I have it set to start with the recent apps tab, and can also use it to check a few widgets or as a launcher.

Aye. It's a start I currently have More Recent set to LauncherPro Dock middle button swipe up Although it's not as fast as I would like: when in an app, need to go Home -> Swipe up, so an extra step.
If the Android Recent Apps list is completely inaccessible, then More Recent on a single home tap would be just as good

[Q] iPhone double tap sleep button flashlight

Hello all! There's a cool feature called springflash in iPhone that consists on double tapping the lock button and the flashlight turns automatically on, if you doubletap again flashlight goes off
I love this feature and have been searching for a similar thing or a "gesture maker" to turn flashlight on (or unless open the torch app)
can someone tell me any app they know either to do this or to enable small gestures to open apps like torch or directly turn on the flashlight? thanks in advance
I'm using last miui rom so the option of using the search button as a launcher of the app torch is not possible!
for the miui rom i believe if i remember correctly all you have to do is hold the home button and the torch will turn on for you. i was on the miui rom just about 2 days ago and did work. if not there are other apps that you can use as widgets and they automatically turn on the torch for you

I'm using MIUI ROM and holding down Home brings up "Recent Apps" screen, just like CM7.
On cm7 you can change what long press on home does, under cm settings

I thinks this is possible ONLY in custom ROM, Android System does not permit to any user's app to override Home or Power button,

You may have luck with the app called "Tasker" - Check it out
With CM7 you can define lockscreen gestures which can be used to toggle the flashlight.
I have setup a very simple gesture (looks like an upside down "L") for that. That makes the flashlight very accessible, though i does not engage accidently.
I used the built in powermanagement widget for the notification area to toggle the flashlight before i found that solution and this is a lot less of a hassle as i dont have to unlock the phone or pull down the notification area.
thanks for the replies! the torch thing of miui works sometimes but other times you mantain home button and it just flash 1 sec and goes off
If I can't find any solution and the problem of miui isn't solved I will go back to the cm7 and notification bar flashlight which is quite cool

Idk if you guys are coming from a note 4 or just a general non s6 or s6 edge... but I didn't know they got rid of the long press menu... i just found out that if you long press the back button, it sort of acts as an in App Menu button. Just sharing a tip for those who may not know.

I have an app (maybe multiple) that does not have an in app menu button built in and therefore requires a menu function from the OS. I used to long press the back key in my LG G4 to get into the menu, but can't figuring out how to do it in my video surveillance app on my S7 Edge. If I short press the bottom left (two squares button), the open apps come up. If I long press the bottom left, it tries to take me into split screen mode (which this app doesn't support). If I press the bottom right key, the phone goes back to the desktop. Same results yield in long pressing the bottom right button. Does anyone know how to get into in app menus that do not have a menu button? My Uniden Guardian app requires this menu to exit out of the application or it will show in the notification area in standby mode. The only other way I can exit the app is doing a force close.

NM, it must be specific to my Uniden Guardian app... The long press back key works in other apps.
Any answer yet?
If I long press the back button in any app, I am immediately taken back to the home screen and once in the home screen, the home screen drop down items pop up. Any solutions for this?
Maybe it's carrier specific? The long-press back button brings up the in-app menu in virtually all of my apps.
On my Sprint GS7E, longpressing the Back button brings up the in-app Menu function.

I have found a few apps that close when long pressing the back, and some that show the menu properly. I had to find another super simple (no permissions required) grocery list app since Simple Grocery List was one that would close.
Here is the fix I figured out that works in this situation and it would be good to pass this on or write up a document.
Go to phone settings => Accessibility => Dexterity and interaction => Assistant Menu.
Got this from galaxy s6 edge forum have an app with need of menu button and it now work with this work around hope this helps for now my phone is not rooted.

The assist menu button is for apps that require a physical menu button to access the menu on any apps. It is used for apps that don't have the 3dot menu option it's just a work around for apps that don't have that option or that not have been updated for marshmallow
Unfortunately doesn't work on apps made with pre Android v4.0 SDK I use an SMS parsing app for bank notifications/login codes and it hasn't been updated since 2 years but works perfectly, just the settings are missing.

I found this discussion was very helpful, but it took me some time to work it out.
When the Assistant menu button is switched on (Settings - Accessibility - Dexterity and interaction), a blue symbol with four white squares appears. If this symbol is pressed, a menu pops up with a selection of available tasks. This includes (on page 2/4) a button called "More options". This is the extra Menu button that should be accessible from a long press of the Back button, but is not available in some apps.

Hello All,
I found a fix. settings==>system==>Buttons==>Home Button. Change the action to open/close menu. or any of the buttons you see there. This works like a charm and if it's a button you dont normally use then even better cause you wont forget which one you chose.

This worked for me. It floats a circular object and you tap this and it gives you some quick one touch functions, one of those is the 3 dots in a vertical line, you tap that and your app will then behave as if you'd tapped a physical MENU button.
Thanks for the tip.

Nova Launcher:Disable search apps pop up that comes up when long press in the dock

Hello. I just installed Nova Prime 5.4-beta 4 on my LG G6. I am trying to figure out how to turn off/ disable the feature where when you long press somewhere in the dock area a "search apps" screen pops up rather than the normal widget/ wallpaper/ settings menu. It only does it when I long press in or near the dock, but since this is where I am use to long pressing to change wallpaper, or add a widget I keep getting this pop up instead. I have looked all through the settings and cant find it. I read that somewhere in the gestures menu there is suppose to be a long press menu, but if thats true I dont have that on mine. Ive added a screenshot to show you the pop up I am referring to. Thanks

Thanks. Im actually not talking about the home button. Ive got the long press home button to open search. What I mean is when I long press in the area where I have highlighted the 2 pink lines on the attached screenshot it opens the search apps menu also in the screenshot. But if I am able to press somewhere in the blue area above the pink lines I get the widget/ wallpaper menu. Its a bit hard getting the right area. I contacted Nova about it and they said the only way to disable that is to turn off the swipe up to access the app drawer feature. So I just try to long press just slightly higher in the area I highlighted blue. Hope this makes sense.

Hi XDA Forum,
Here's a Nova alternative setup I like that will disable opening the the Search App form when you accidentally short tap the Home button . This setup also allows you to keep the Swipe Up for apps and the little " ^ " indicator above the Home button to open the App drawer when you actually want to get into the app drawer:
1. Nova Settings | App Drawer | Gestures | Swipe to open/close = On and
Swipe indicator = Enabled .
2. Nova Settings | Gestures | Home button | Nova | select None, and
"Only on main home page" = disabled .
This setup also seems to disable that "2 pink lines" area immediately above the home button, but below the " ^ " indicator, that Gam3r 4 Life showed in a pic above on 30th August 2017, 12:05 AM.
Regards . . .
