2 Simple Questions - Making Default Numbers / Launcher Pro - General Questions and Answers

2 Simple Questions - Making Default Numbers / Launcher Pro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone help with two questions, that are probably simple to most here. I am pretty much a Newb.
1 Launcher Pro...I love what I see so far. a good change.. goes back to the vertical apps in the app page, scrolling dock...
But my page goes blank, phone vibrates, haptic, and it stays off for a while, even after I relaunch With Home Launcher APP. The maker says it has nothing to do with the settings that , if misused, could set it into unstable mode? Might you have an idea?? It clearly didn't do this on mine, or any vibrant I have seen to this date.
2. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it was explained how to use the "set as default" for a phone number for a Contact. However it doesnot seem to be working. It is mainly used for Speed Dial...correct? When u goto enter a name that has had a default number set, when u hit speed dial for that phone, or an app (if u r phone does not have it) then that contacts (default) number SHOULD be put in..correct. It should not ask you which one. Well I have done the default thing, YET it is still asking me.
Can you help. Can anyone. Mainly cause I am using it . Also I want to make sure I understand
To get a number into a speed dial Locacation. I had to delete the number i DID NOT want, enter the name, then reenter the number I deleted into my contacts phone numbers. Wow
Thanks so much

HTC Touch PRO 2 - FULL OF BUGS - Please review these and let me know!!!!!

Hi Everyone -
I have used the HTC touch PRO for about 3 weeks now and I have to say it is FULL of bugs . Can you guys confirm or deny this:
1. If the phone is set to vibrate, it will go back to "RING" after a single call. Meaning if someone calls me once, it will go back to RING. This also happens if the ringer is set to Vibrate and Ring also.
2. When you make a call using the "dial pad", the "dial pad" disappears very quickly and goes to the main screen. Then you have to hit the DIAL button and then KEYPAD to get it back. It is very annoying when you call your bank or an airline where you have to go through a series of promts like entering your ID numbers, pins, etc.
3. The camera seems to come on sometimes by just touching the screen.
4. If you have multiple numbers associated with a contact (home, work, mobile etc), it shows one number when dialed. For example, when I dial my friends HOME number, it dials the home number correctly, but on the display it shows the MOBILE number being dialed.
5. Unable to send a CONTACT's info by SMS directly from the CONTACTS page. It will send a MMS but not a SMS. THis is when someone asks for a phone number of a person and you just want to send it automatically from your phone book.
I am sure there are other bugs also, but the above are the most annoying as hell.
I want to make sure this is with everyone or just my phone!
Thank you
hey,idk how helpful this willbe but it seems like these phones str8 out of the box are having problems...ive read that a hard reset will get rid of some of the unwanted bugs...you may try that
1. Just tested and after call vibrating stayed on.
2. The keypad goes away but not to the home screen. So all I have to do is hit on key, keypad to get back to it.
3. never had that happen.
4. Confirmed. Seems to default to the first number stored maybe??
5. Confirmed. Most likely because it is sending the vcard or something as an attachment???

My experience is the same with the Verizon branded TP2.
#5 It sends it as vCard attachement.
I Just open the contact info to edit then copy and past it into SMS.
Returning TP2 tomorrow
Used the TP2 for 3 weeks;
1. Screen clicks when touched, guess the slider hinge is loose;
2. Set vibrate then ring, keeps going back to ring only everytime the phone is powered off and back on, (standby on); this is the mode I use often, not to annoy people in meetings, and not to miss calls;
3. Cant set screen dim time to more than 10seconds, it dims after 10seconds no matter what the settting is;
4. Internet brower lunch from home gets stuck randomly, have to hit end go back to home, then internet again;
5. GPS performance with Sprint Navigation is much worse than Touch; It takes much longer to lock, and it lose GPS often; Maybe a software thing, Google map seems to work fine.
Non of the bugs are serious, but very annoying! The phone is too big, too heavy, too expensive ($349 from Sprint)! Miss the dial pad; The only good thing is the beautiful screen.
Hopefuly WM6.5 upgrade will fix these, but dont want to get stuck with waiting for the upgrade, I've just re-activated my old touch, and returning TP2 tomorrow.
You can add the issue of not being able to keep static IP's assigned to the network adapter for use while in your workplace or business, and then when not in the workplace haveing the ability to use sprints data services. In otherwords everything has to be dynamic. If you want to use static ip's while in range of wifi, you have to clear it out when you leave the wifi spot in order to use regular evdo.
gps is fast and accurate
fast if you disable touch flo and use mobile shell
Another bug
When viewing NFL mobile, after about two minutes into showing something, the phone reboots itself. Quite annoyin'!

1. I've heard of this happening after soft reset but it doesn't happen on my phone
2.Works perfectly fine on mine, all you do is hit the 'Keypad' button and it should stay up. if you end up at the home screen hit 'phone' and then keypad and you should be good....do you have a dialer skin on it?
3.Never happens for me
4. haven't tried, i don't have any contacts with multiple numbers
5. haven't tried but i usually just copy/paste phone numbers for sms
definitely try hard reset. and if it's got a warranty or anything like that you still have the option to return/exchange it
well speak of the devil my phone started showing some of these symptoms later in the evening and now even worse when i make calls i can hear people talking but they can hear me
a hard reset fixed it but when i restore my backup files it goes back to messing up so maybe it's one of the tweaks i ran?
is there a way to use sprite mobile to only restore contacts/sms? that's all i really need i'll think i'll hold off on the tweaks and just wait for the HSPL unlocker
Hope these problems are all fixed when the HardSPL is released.
As for now, I am holding my breath waiting to see if the gps problem is fixed on a new rom, waiting to buy this phone.

yeah, the real messed up part is verizon is out of stock with the phone. i went to a verizon store but they couldn't even replace it for me. i think the people over there are retarted cuz i've known it was out of stock but the dudes at the store didnt know and the guy they had me talking to on the phone didn't even know they didn't sell them in stores!
'you'll probably get the imaggio isntead it's the upgrade of your phone'...no stupid i need a keyboard
mine keeps switching from Ring and Vibrate to Ring as well

Any Way to stay in keypad mode during call?

My screen goes crazy. During a call up to my ear it flips to horizontal, changes out of key pad view and not always to mute/speakerphone... keys view, sometimes to contact info, and can be a nightmare to get back to "end call." I've found times when the caller hung up but the TP2 put them on hold and kept my time going.
Any programs and or reg hacks to:
1) stop the horizontal flip when placed to an ear, and
2) keep it in keypad mode or general call mode?
Real pain when dialing into a system that requires keypad responses. Everytime I put it back to my ear I have to go through a crazy sequence to get back to the key pad.
This is my only complaint wth this phone, it's not easy to use as a phone!
Thanks.
I have the same problem when dialing into VM, or into any call queue. I looked through the registry a bit. Didn't see anything obviously labeled.
yeah me too. Only thing I could find was using Gyrators' exception list to not rotate the phone, but it wasnt 100% reliable. I would *LOVE* to find a way to stay in keypad mode too.
Hi All - I guess I'm just jumping on the bandwagon but I have the same issue and find it annoying. I loaded the 'incall screen tweak' but that didn't work. Any help more seasoned members than I could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!!!
I had the same issue too, whenever I put my phone up to my ear (left handed) it would go into landscape. The fix is simple but you have to edit a registry setting. I'm going by memory here, so please forgive the vague info
1) make sure to backup your reg info
2) using your favorite reg edit program, goto
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\Whitelist
3) now this is the part I kind of forgot, you need to find a string with the DATA value that includes "phone" or "dailer"
4) delete that string
5)soft reset and give it a try, the phone shouldn't go into landscape whenever you turn it during a call.

OK, I went where you said, but no dialer, and only phone entry is:
Phone/Lock/Compose/Picture
String= Dialog
And deleting this stopped "lefty" in call flipping? Doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't seem to only control dialer or phone.
Please confirm or anyone out there please help. I don't want to delete something don't understand.
Can I simple change Dialog to something like "Zero" or "0"?

That's it! forgot what the process name was, but yeah, deleting that stopped the phone from trying to change to landscape during a phone call. Deleting that will tell the G-Sensor not to change the orientation of the phone's screen during a phone call, however it also tells it not to change the orientation during a picture (which wasn't a big deal for me cuz I can change it when I view them in windows). You can always look up the process in google or even the forum search tool if you're still scared.
If anyone else is interested I tried a "partial" delete of the suggestion above. I created a new string leaving out the Phone.
Lock/Compose/Picture
String= Dialog
deleted old string with phone/....
So far no more "lefty" crazy problems, and pictures seem to appear in landscape.
Here's hoping all is OK!

Awesome, good job!
I installed Gyrator 2. Just create a new event with the phone as the application. Nothing for orientation, nothing on stylus, and rotate screen for actions. Then promote the event to the top. Highlight your new phone event and select orientation, it will have a check mark and a number one next to the event. It hasn't failed on me yet and I use the key pad all day long with my job!
I just upgraded to the Verizon official WinMo 6.5 and the registry hack doesn't seem to work anymore, and I'm having issues getting Gyrator to work, has anyone resolved this issue for WinMo 6.5?

I haven't had any of the issues with the 6.5 upgrade that were mentioned with 6.1. Haven't needed to add S2U2 since the screen lock is built in and the phone is much more responsive when placed to the ear and then moved away to access the keypad. It's not perfect but vastly improved over 6.1...
I guess my point is try it the way it is with 6.5 and see if you thinks its better. leave gyrator and reg hacks aside for a few.

Reccomended apps!

Basically having seen the top 10 thread I thought that a thread where users reccomend just one app with a brief reason why.I will start
APP:Handcent sms
REASON:Fantastic app for messaging.Works better than the stock app for me.Also very customisable.Regular updates also and never experienced any issues of any kind.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
APP: Contact Widget ABC Dialer Light
REASON: Good app for quick dial, solves the slow dialing problem but for only 6 free contacts, if you want 12 you have to pay. Only bad thing is you HAVE to have a photo of a contact to dial them and you can't customize looks of the widget yet, it's white and non transparrent.
WEATHER=Palmary weather app
download from palmary's site its the best and only weather app you'll need
I can't live without SuperDial. It runs circles around the stock SE dialer. I can't believe SE would put so much time and effort into customization and then completely ignore the stock dialer. Searching your contacts is overly complicated and even when you do finally get to the contact you want, it's like 17 clicks to even dial the number.
Yeah....SuperDial all the way. Best of all, it's free.
As a side note, there appear to be 2 different apps called SuperDial now. The one from episode6 is the correct one.
i think its time people get the "Goto" app -although it aint free-
its a lockscreen replacement app..
1) allows you to place any name you want on the top bar
2) includes date/time/weather temp -although im not having no luck with weather temp.-
3) ability to change phone volume from loud to vibrate to silent without even havin to unlock!
4) the swipe itself is like a swipometer.. you have messages, then call logs, then gmail and finally unlock..
5) Ability to change background image - although could do with being able to customize other features!
only saw SE swipes twice.. so far!
1st - when someone rang my phone whilst it was in lock mode.. swipe needed to answer
2nd - when i put passcode on, i thought id test just pressing the back key instead of entering my code.. and lo and behold the SE swipe showed up! lol.. i really find these as minor issues..
although i dont think this was meant to happen im actually glad it did lol basically when the lockscreen shows, if u keep hold of the home button, it shows the 6 previously used apps which you can go to without the need to unlock although once you back out of the app you chose to view, your back to the lockscreen again lol
for those who are bit off about the whole unlocking and then passcode thing, i just tried a quick test now and i can say when this phone is in lock mode, you can jus press home key and draw ya passcode and your then taken to homescreen also holding home key doesnt show previously used apps here so no worries about anyone bypassing security!
wasnt meant to be a huge review lol but though id cover most of the points so it makes it easier for people to decide!!
Hope it helps!!!
:::Edit:::
all buttons cause screen to power up during lock mode!
Ive attached a screenshot of my X10i lockscreen..
Uninstaller
reason: Uninstall stuff.
from where can I get the goto APP Search on the market but I didn't found it
goto
i found it and purchased it from android usa market... love it works great but all buttons cause screen to power up
Had to add that bit to my review.. guess its not really a good sign is it :-(
Sent from my rooted x10i via xda using swype!

Have you tried ThaiDial?
I found it to be better but superdialer is still way better than the one we were given with the phone. I didnt like how in superdialer when someone called me it would show their number with a 1 in front of it and then list it differently as the contact in my phone book

Love this phone but the phone/dialing feature sucks..

Owned this phone for bout a week and been constantly playing with it and love everything bout it except the phone/dialing feature....coming from a blackberry, the phone/dialing just makes sense and works. Couple gripes I'm having:
1. Speed dial, I can't by default just hit 2 or 3 but I have to click off the "X" above the number pad before I can use speed dial. If I just long press 2, it would still think i'm trying to dial out a number and not speed dial.
2. In the same "phone" screen they have recently dialed incoming/outgoing calls but it just shows a picture or no picture depending if I have them, but they don't show the numbers. I have to use the optical pad to scroll though to show the number, I can't even you my finger to swype through cause it will automatically dial the number without me knowing who i'm dialing specially if I have no picture or number.
3. The "Faves" is kinda redundant cause it shows the recently dialed people same as the "Call Log". I know you can put your favorite people on the top list but still...kinda redundant.
4. I can start dialing a users name via the dial pad and it would find the person I'm looking for, what happens when that contact has multiple numbers, if I click on the contact from what it found via dialing his name in the dial pad it would just dial the cell number; won't give me options to dial his home, work etc. Just dials the cell number by default.
This is just some of the stuff I can point out right now. But its just not very intuitive and I have to go through multiple taps just to find someone, dial someone in my contacts or know where to look before I can dial out.
If there is an app for the phone that I can use to replace the built in "phone" feature, that would be great. Just not crazy bout how the Phone feature which should be the most important feature on a "smartphone" is so poorly layed out.
Thanks for any info....
I agree the mySense phone app is not the greatest, and probably stock froyo app is bit easier to use.
What about the speed dial, you you can hit menu on your home screen, than add to home/ shortcut / direct dial - choose contact - choose phone number . It will creat a speed dial icon on the home screen. Also you can create a folder and group them, like "Work" "Family" etc.
I like the phone/contacts application much better in what Cyanogen has in his ROM. It's simple and super fast, the one included with our phone is complicated and clunky.
I need to add that to my list, not a deal breaker, but definitely needs an overhaul.

I cannot recreate any of your problems on my phone dialer.
Speed Dial can be achieved easily two different ways. In the phone app, select menu and speed dial. Add new will be at the top of the screen. Select from contacts and choose a speed dial number. Long pressing on that number, regardless of what is in the screen above (blank number or last call) will dial the contact attached to that speed dial number.
Another method is to long press on the number while editing a contact and selecting speed dial.
The 'last call' at the top of the dialer should always show at least the number, unless it was blocked.
Faves is the same as Favorites on the vanilla dialer. Put your favoite called numbers here. It is a lot quicker than using contacts. I hate the faves app but the dialer function is fine. As far as the recent calls, those are actually the most frequently called numbers and you can set that to just one by pressing menu>edit smart group and selecting the number of members.
Your number four is quite fixable. If the contact has multiple number, it will dial the Primary one, which you can choose the first time you call a contact. Alternatively, you can press on the icon on the right side that looks like a contact card. It pulls up the contact and you can select a number from there.
I prefer the vanilla or CM dialer much better myself but because CM does not have a ROM that works for me yet (the phone app does not work for me) I learned all I could about the only stock alternative.
Hope this helps.

Also...
To search contacts you have to tap the spyglass. WTF? Why isn't the search field just there?
Each entry in the contacts is too tall. Give me the option to make it thinner. In the taller entry, add some information, such as shown in the My contact card, the default phone # for instance.
Favs is worthless. Allow me to dump it.
In the phone, I *do* like the 'start typing out a name' but it would be nice to be able to long press to pick the #, as someone said. At least it does something useful (mostly. Add to Faves is pointless).
DO NOT always show the last caller or callee at the top. That can be nice, or it can be embarassing.
Allow me to delete all of a certain # from my call log, not just individual iterations. At least this phone doesn't redial the last # all the time like my friend's iPhone does, and my other friend's MyTouch (plain version).
However, it redials too easily. So if I talked to my folks earlier and then at night I'm getting this post ready and they are asleep and the damn thing redials, well, that's bad.
If I start tapping out a number, let me edit it, say using the trackpad. C'mon, this is obvious!
And while playing with this, it got stuck in Searching contacts. And if I want to dial a number, how do I do that? At the top, Save to People. No number displayed, no people icons. Enter name or number/Tap to see smart dial tips. WTF? Time to reboot or something.
How about a remapping genius to search (as it should have been) and long-press on search brings up phone? Or something. I hate how with a normal POS phone I can dial. With this I have to go to the home screen or unlock the screen & log in, then press a button, then finally I can call.
I use Quickdial for my contacts that I call quite a bit. Nice app and allows 36 contacts.
I personally do not like the built in dialer. It is rather clunky to use witht he buttons on the bottom and if hands are rather large, it gets tricky sometimes hitting the phone button and the call button.
Have not found a good replacement yet.
I started using "Dialer One" and I like it better than the build in dialer. Its simple and it works...not the best but better. Also, started using Google Voicemail so everything pretty much works the way its supposed to now.
This is my first Android phone, and my experience is so far ok, but kinda annoying that I need to research, investigate and try out a dialer just to make the phone work.
I also like Dialer One and use it as both a dialer and address book replacement. If you set it to show your favorite contacts on the default screen there's minimal clicking. It also supports using your background image, pretty cool.
I hate the stupid Faves feature of the phone as well. Especially for SMS. Why does it need to explicitly notify me that one of my Faves messaged me? The new message notification by itself is sufficient.

Ah joy, it seems I found a bug. I reported it to T-Mobile, they gave me a # for HTC and I'll try pursuing that (if someone has a bugreporting URL for them...). My phone is perm-rooted, I'm not running (gasp, the horrors) a task killer.
Go to Phone (home screen, press picture of phone). You should see your last call at the top.
Tap out some numbers, say 55555.
Decide you wish to edit those numbers (the 2nd 5 should be a 5) and use the trackpad to move over to the left.
Unexpected behavior: it moves to Faves, then Contacts.
OK, fine, no biggie, now use the trackpad to move back to Phone.
Bug 1: Notice there is no number displayed and it says at the top that you have matches for n of your contacts where n is the total number of your contacts. Apparently the number typed is lost. Sucks but minor.
Bug 2 (often, not always): Tap out another number. Note that often (usually for me) you can not see any number. I believe it also shows that I'm still matching all of my contacts (it isn't reproducing for me currently).
I wonder if anyone else can see this, or if my phone (or if I got confused. It happened after rebooting as well, but isn't happening now.

[i9003]missing simple feature like redialing & T9 keyboard

After 2 months of using smartphone (My 1st android) I am left wondering why so called smartphone have such simple features missing.
1. There is no redial shortcut, if i have to redial after some time I actually have to press home key>unlock>phone keypad>logs> then swipe the number (5step action) I thought its a smart phone with voice dialing so by saying "Redial" I should be able to execute that command but no it does not work.
Is there a way to have a shortcut to phone logs rather than keypad I cant find any such option.
2. lets say I have to call jack davis on my older motorola or much older samsung I could reach by typing 52 then tap "2" another two times to make the number like 522 & it will show me directly jack (all names with jack) I cant do this simple thing similarly on my i9003, the abc keys work but they work bit differently & its a hit or miss, may be I am doing some thing wrong.
My motorola even had a 4 numbered speed dial code assigned automatically something like 1085 for each name, so I could dial just the 4 number & it would dial the corresponding contact.
3. doing all these mentioned above & many other features require 2 hands which at times while driving may not be possible, you only are left with 1 hand option, seems smartphone cant easily be operated by single hand unless you have some really long fingers.
Any pointer to achieve a better dialing with smartphones what about the i9000 I guess its the same limitation on that version too?
I found a "simple redial" app from the market simple but still wondering why not the phone supports it natively?
while waiting for the answers I searched the market & found quite many dialer which have the features which I mentioned now i need to try few of them but I am still surprised that these should be the basic requirement.
Does the 2.3.3 on i9000 improves the dialer?

1.) For smart dialing you open the dial pad and press keys for your contact name say for "jack" you press 522 it will show you the contacts there.
2.) for quick redial of last made call install "Last call widget". It's a widget which shows you your last incoming or outgoing call based on ur setting and can either take you to logs directly or call that number.
Hope it helps
