Change Calendar to new APK? - Epic 4G Android Development

Goal: Change the color of "my calendar" from pink to Blue.
I've tried putting an android stock Calendar.apk and deleted the others, but I couldn't get it to work. Is there another way to do this?
Thanks
- KrossXC

Is there another Calendar APK that will change this? Or can I somehow remove the Pink color in the file-system? or remove the "my calendar" all-together, and keep the google one?
Just want to change the pink!
- KrossXC

Have you looked at your google calender settings online... I am sure you can edit your colors there.

Change Calendar to new APK
I tried to change this myself, finally gave up, however I did find a good calendar app that I really like in it's place Gemini, very nice indeed.

What agenda widget are you using there, OP? And what widget theme if one of the popular agenda widgets?

I would really like a calanxder icon/widget with the actual date... tcalander doesn't update daily.... id almost settle for a no date calander short cut icon....ideas thanks

Unfortunately it seems the "My Calendar" is part of the Samsung calendar app that can't be removed. The best you can do is hide it, but any events you create will still be assigned to the pink My Calendar by default. So whenever you create an event, you have to choose the calendar you want.
The obvious workaround would be to replace the TouchWiz calendar with the stock Android calendar, but I just tried that a little while ago and it didn't work. There may be a way to get it working in the future. Until then I'm just ignoring the My Calendar thing.

I was able to replace the TouchWiz calendar with the normal Android calendar roughly according to the directions in this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735035
(Sorry for the crappy link, but I can't do proper links yet.)
I've edited mcb00f's directions slightly and repeated and repeated them here:
1.) You must have root to replace the TouchWiz calendar! Use root explorer or ADB to move TouchWizCalendar.apk, TouchWizCalendar.odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk and TouchWizCalendarProvider.odex to somewhere on your SD Card as backups. Reboot.
2.) Go into manage applications. Filter to all. Uninstall com.android.calendar.apk and com.android.provider.calendar.apk. Reboot again.
3.) Download Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk from the thread referenced above and copy them to your SD card. Install both.
4.) If you want, use root explorer to move them from /data/app to /system/app but it's really not necessary. Reboot again, should sync by default but re-enable if you need to.
If you get an error or it doesn't work, it's probably because you didn't reboot one of the three times you need to do so!

Hope that helps!
Edit: Just in case it wasn't clear, the My Calendar calendar and events in it will be deleted along with the TouchWiz calendar app, so if you have anything you want to keep from that calendar, you should back it up accordingly!

To start, the dock is from an app. Launcher Pro. You will need to download the 3rd party apps from the post and then install Launcher pro. Then hit the phone menu button at the home screen, press on preferences--> appearance settings. Then choose dock style as Froyo wide. This will give you the color.
As for the apps you are missing, Backup assistance is a blur app, so that one is gone. I'm not sure if you can just redownload it from the verizon portion of the Market. Navigation, you should just use Google Maps. In order to get google maps back, download it from the market. The alarm clock function can be found under "clock" in Liberty. Click the Clock in the app drawer, then the icon on the bottom left to set alarms.

Thanks a ton!!
Everything works like a charm now.
for those reading this having the same questions, if you have backup assistant it is long gone, however you can go to backupassistant.com and log in, this will show you all your contacts click the select all option and click back up as an outlook CVS File.
Then go to Gmail and log in, click contacts and then click import and import the file you got from backup assistant.
All your contacts will now be saved to google. So your gmail will sync it to your phone and never again have to worry about backup assistant.
After i download the Iconpack, how can i make my icons look like that?

[Q]Where is DeskClock app on Khal's MIUI V2 ROM. Please help

I installed Khal's MIUI ROM successfully. But there is no Desk Clock on the Home Launcher pages. I used the "search" button on my phone and type "clock" so I can found it and use it.
But is there any method to make a icon on the Home Screen for quick use later. Please help me. Thank you.
Is there any solutions. If you don't know just let me know, or you guys look down on me.......
You can use MIUI clock widget and just click on it to launch the clock app. Alternatively you can use a different launcher.
You can try going into manage applications & clearing the cache and/or data on Launcher2
im pretty sure the clock app is in the tools folder on the home screen. my phones at motorola getting fixed so i cant look right now.
@CrystalShield no one looks down on anyone here. well at least they shouldnt. we have all had problems and it never hurts to ask. thats why we all come here, for community support
@easye420: I am sure that when I install the ROM of Khal of MIUI in this link. There is no app call "DeskClock" on home screen. I can list them here.
Page1: Gallery, Camera, music, Settings, Root Explorer (it's mine) , [Chinese something] and Theme manager.
Page2: Some Google Apps, facebook, memory, overclock, fast boot, twitter, and FM Radio.
page3: Wireless tether, Voice Search, News and weather and some of my apps (because everyone know our apps will stay at the end the these)
But I also use the "deckclock.apk" in /system/app to run the Clock. But i want it stay on my screen. I try use Shortcut, but when I click the shortcut, it "open App Manager" (like when we try to Run a APK file in ASTRO) and I also need to click on "launch" to run the app. It isn't what we want when we try to make a shortcut for an application, is it?
@3rdstring: I did, but it restore to original (still don't have it on Home).
Is there any solution for me.
By the way, Thanks all you guys very much. English is not my first language, if there is something impolite or immodest in my words. I'm sorry.................
And I am also newbie of this forum, so I don't have enough 10 posts to post and ask in the Development Box. That why I disturb you guys here. Sorry about that.
Reinstalling the app works. I just move the apk out from /system/app and install it as if it's another use app.
I have the same problem. Copying and installing doesn't work as the app has 0 bytes (!) and I always get the parsing error-obviously
If someone could upload the original with its proper size that'll be lovely.
Thanks.

I removed the DeskClock.apk from /system/app. But when I use the "search" button and type "clock". It's still there (and of course it still can be used). I have no idea about where the real app is.
It's really weird for me.(of course because I don't have enough knowledge)
This is what i do to get deskclock app to show on the screen.
1)Using root explorer copy the deskclock.apk from system/app to sdcard.
2)Using root explorer again delete deskclock.apk from system/app and in data/dalvik-cache look for [email protected]@[email protected] and delete it.
3)Restart ur phone.
4)install the deskclock.apk from sdcard and the app should appear on your screen.
Use launcher pro. Its faster, sexier and will show all your applications!

[Q] "There are no calendars selected!"

Hello everyone, the HTC Sensation is my first smartphone and I've had it for about two happy months. However, just today, it flashes the message "There are no calendars selected" on the bottom of my screen. I then go to check my agenda, and it doesn't show. Also, when I try to edit a task using the HTC calendar app, it FC's. I did not do anything to immediately cause the issue. (As if I were to delete a file, I would experience the repercussions right away. Not the case here)
All of my events are still visible through the "Pure Grid Calendar" widget, but not through the "Business Calendar" agenda widget.
If the fix were to require a phone-wipe, is there any way I can save everything so that my phone shall be exactly like it is at the moment, aside from the issue? (Progress in games, song ratings, etc)
Thank you for your help.
HTC Sensation - 2.3.4
Go Launcher EX - 2.63
T-Mobile
you can use an app called titanium backup to help you save your applications. you wont be able to do a backup of your current state without the issue because you dont now what the issue is. Titanium backup is going to be the best best for you so you can re-install your apps one by one to narrow down your problem apps. I personally think its Go Launcher. i hate secondary launchers lol, after wiping i would install app quarantine from the market and use that to "quarantine" apps such as stock browser, set up wizard, just apps you dont use so they dont take up ram or become active in the background. just something to think about. let me know if this helped
Yes, that will help me out when I need to do a wipe. However, I just can't reason why the launcher could cause the issue. It started without any recent change to it.
I did recently add the Pure Grid widget, but that was two days ago. Could be related.
I think the launcher trying to use its own built in apps could conflic with stock apps. Idk just my beliefs lol. I've never had a successful secondary launcher. Something like that always goes wrong. But to each his own. Just try delete a few apps that you have suspect. Reboot after each one and see if that makes a difference before you take super wipeing measures. You never know it could be something simple
The issue becomes more interesting still.
I went back to HTC Sense and the Pure Grid Calendar widget continues to work while the Business Calendar widget states that no calendars are selected. However, the HTC agenda widget shows all the tasks, while the HTC calendar widget does not!
The one thing I did like about sense was the smoothness and finished feel. But I need the customization of something like Go Launcher. If I can solve this issue, I may go for a new ROM that can do that: Go Launcher customization and themes with Sense smoothness.
Thank you.

SENSE 3.5 allows you to customize the widgets and has a nice feel. Most users stick with it because of the flexibility that your thinking. Maybe think about trying arhd 4.1.6
I have the same problem. The difference is that I know it isn't the luncher. I deleted on purpose my calendar app, but i also deleted the calendar sync app and now I can't use any calendars. Anyone know where I can download the original calendar app and calendar sync app?

The same problem just popped up on my phone. I have not added any launchers... I do use the business calendar app, has anyone found a solution?

Saving speed dial phone contacts when switching ROMs

Background...
I have one of my home screens on my launcher dedicated to speed dial contacts of the 10 people I call / text most frequently.
I can save the home screen set up either with Titanium or just using Go Launcher's embedded settings saver.
And if I switch to a new ROM I can restore those settings. All the icons for my speed dial contacts show up right where I left them, but they don't link to anything. Touching one gives an error message of "No such contact exists"
Now, all my apps transfer fine and the home screen icons still work after restoring the settings. For example I have Gmail as one of my home screen shortcuts. Once I reinstall Gmail, the Gmail icon that restored will work fine. It finds Gmail and launches it.
But the contacts don't work. I have to go back and delete each one from the home screen and re-add it.
Am I doing something wrong? I use the same contacts list to install my contacts every time. It's the same file I've used since October. So the contacts list is the same. Does it have something to do with the way different ROM's store the contacts?
If you use google to store your contacts then they'll be restored with ANY rom and will include all of your "group" lists...

I don't have any problem restoring my contacts. They go right back where they are supposed to be. I can open my contact list and everything it right where it's supposed to be in the right groups in the right folders, etc etc etc.
It's the shortcuts to the contacts on my home screen that don't work after a fresh ROM install and restoration of my launcher set up. But the one shortcut I have for a direct dial works fine. And all my app shortcuts work fine. It's just the contact shortcuts.

Black is back

Use at your own risk. I'm not a developer and won't be responsible for any damage you might experience using procedures described bellow. I’ve just adapted the method; all credit goes to Nexus 5 developer hello00.
I always believed that the power consumption is one of the most important issues regarding mobile phones. If you live dynamically you simply don’t have everywhere opportunity to charge your phone. And then you find it empty when you need it most. Not to mention that considering possibility not going through the full day with a single charge is unacceptable for me.
One of the most amazing features of the AMOLED screens is zero consumption with totally black color. And then came KitKat which put everything on shiny white color. It could be nice (in matters of taste, there can be no disputes), but besides it drains the battery you are not always in the mood to get a beam of bright light into your eyes.
So I made a little research in the direction to turn my screen back to black without fatal intervention to the stock ROM. I’m rooted, have bloatware removed, on art and so far I managed to made the following alternations:
I replaced the boot logo with attached one and removed the bootanimation. For replacing the boot logo I used Moto x toolkit, the bootanimation I simply delete from data/local/moodle (it is possible to replace it with the custom one as well).
I also replaced the Moto’s SMS and dialer with those from Google Nexus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519733). Now I have fully functional Google dialer and both apps in black. Short manual if someone is interested (you must be rooted and have one of root managers installed - e.g. root explorer):
1. SMS. Do not delete stock app. Rename it adding .bak or move it to sd or to the computer just in case you want it back.
Take any of the SMS zip files according to your choice from the site above. Extract it and find Mms_Signed in the system/priv-app. Copy Mms_Signed.apk to the Phone – SD. In Root explorer (or equal manager) change rights to rw and copy Mms_Signed.apk to the system/priv-app. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot and find the new SMS app in the application drawer. That’s it.
2. GOOGLE DIALER. Do not delete, remove or freeze anything!!! Copy desired zip from above site to the computer and unzip it. Find both files GoogleDialer.apk and GoogleDialer.odex (if you’re not deodexed) in the system/priv-app and copy them to SD. In Root explorer (or equal manager) change rights to rw and copy both files to the system/priv-app. Change permissions for both to rw-r-r. Reboot. In your launcher (if supports, I use Holo HD, otherwise get Anycut or similar app) open activities, find first Phone activity and start it. You should have the Google Dialer of your choice activated.
I’m attaching screenshots and applications I use.
Thanks the inverted dialer looks awesome.

Would you make a version of this compatible with the standard Dialer? You realize the MotoX doesn't have the Google Dialer. I liked this one:

Sorry, unfortunatelly I'm not a developer, but I'm sure that someone can make it leaning on Nexus variants. But then, why won't you give the GN dialer a shot? It's virtually Moto x dialer + goodies. Like searching business directly in dialer or finding information about people who you calling due to the data from any website or social app?
Thanks for this. I followed your directions after reboot I opened anycut and there is no phone activity. I had the plain bright white Google dialer working on my X just fine. After replacing and changing permission and reboot it doesn't acknowledge these. I put the old Google dialer back and rebooted and it's back like it was. Not sure how to get these great looking inverted Google dialers to work.

Hi,
did you find the Google Dialer in activities? If you did and chose it, the dropdown menu should appeared and the first activity which has Phone in the name should be selected. If you didn't find that, the Google Dialer wasn't activated properly. After installation and reboot, did you see the notice that 1 application has been upgraded or something like that?

I didn't see that notification that an app was updating which I thought odd because I've inverted a lot of my apps and always got that after reboot. Just to be sure, I remove the old dialer and odex, replace with the inverted ones, fix permission, reboot, etc. Do I leave them named googledialer? I had an issue when I put the regular white google dialer on where it needed to be renamed to just "dialer". I tried it both ways though. I'm hoping I just missed something

Keeping the name Google dialer is OK. But tell me, when you say that pushing the black dialer doesn't cause any app update and you can't activate it, what about the ordinary white Google dialer? How did you manage to install and enable it? Did you get it in the Application drawer or had to find it in activities?

With the other Google dialer I swapped out the dialer apk and renamed it dialer rebooted and it was there. The file I used didn't have an odex file just an apk. I'm wondering since I replaced the dialer with the Google one of trying to install a different one is causing a conflict. Though, even after I remove the old Google dialer it still doesn't give the apps upgrading message. I.. ugh don't know what I did with the stock dialer apk. I put it somewhere but can't find it. Wondering if I put out back how it was it shouldn't cause a conflict. Not having an unlocked BL shouldn't be an issue I don't think. Thanks for your help.
Okay, I figured it out. Since I installed the generic Google dialer before the inverted one together they're causing conflicts obviously. Alone this apk and odex won't work. Got it to work freezing the white dialer but had no way to end calls. Basically I need the moto x's stock dialer.apk . I have no idea where I put it when I switched. Searched all over. If anyone has it you'd make my day.
UPDATE. Got the stock dialer back now and have the inverted Google dialer calling. Force closes after a call is placed. Going to clear data and see if that fixes it. This has become an obsession... I've played around so much that now I have to figure out how to make it work like others have.

You likely generated a conflict between two Google dialer apps. If I were you, I'd clean up everything and start form the beggining. Firstly I'd get the original dialer into function, install it, set permission, clean data and cache and reboot. Then, when I have original dialer totally working, I'd push solely the black apk and odex to the system, set permissions and reboot. That should do the job.

Thanks for the advice. I put the stock dialer back. It's one from the att ROM I download and pulled out. Set permissions, cleared data, reboot. It updates on reboot though no icon is shown. I add it on my desktop with activity and launch it. Opens fine, alas when I dial a number it goes off on a fc death cycle, the only way to end the call it's through my status bar. I think that when I put the white Google dialer in I must of done something. It works fine when I put it back. The white google dialer was just an apk, no other files were included in the download and it functions as a stand alone dialer starting and ending calls all as one. I had to rename it dialer to make it work. Something in that changed it. Oh well, can't restore backups with my locked bootloader so I don't want to fiddle too much with it. I have the white Google dialer apk that functions all as one of you want to see it. Thanks again for the help.
UPDATE: I got it working! There was something wrong with the stock dialer apk I found. I dug around on my computer and found my old one. Switched some stuff out, changed 644, then yad yad..it works great. Thanks so much for the help. Oh, does the caller ID work for you?
