To start, the dock is from an app. Launcher Pro. You will need to download the 3rd party apps from the post and then install Launcher pro. Then hit the phone menu button at the home screen, press on preferences--> appearance settings. Then choose dock style as Froyo wide. This will give you the color.
As for the apps you are missing, Backup assistance is a blur app, so that one is gone. I'm not sure if you can just redownload it from the verizon portion of the Market. Navigation, you should just use Google Maps. In order to get google maps back, download it from the market. The alarm clock function can be found under "clock" in Liberty. Click the Clock in the app drawer, then the icon on the bottom left to set alarms.

Thanks a ton!!
Everything works like a charm now.
for those reading this having the same questions, if you have backup assistant it is long gone, however you can go to backupassistant.com and log in, this will show you all your contacts click the select all option and click back up as an outlook CVS File.
Then go to Gmail and log in, click contacts and then click import and import the file you got from backup assistant.
All your contacts will now be saved to google. So your gmail will sync it to your phone and never again have to worry about backup assistant.
After i download the Iconpack, how can i make my icons look like that?

I installed Launcher Pro. I read that you can switch between launchers with a selection. I thought you could do it by press on screen, like when adding a widget, and it would be there. But it isn't.
I have searched through the settings, and can't seem to find it.
Any thoughts?

download home switcher from the market or go here
settings/applications/manage applications/select your home screen program
I dont have an android phone yet so someone correct me if i'm wrong ^^
You can download HomeSwitcher from the Market
Without a switcher, you can go into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/LauncherPro/Reset Defaults. Then next time you hit the Home button, it'll ask you again which one you want and if you want to set one as default again.

Cool, Thanks.
Uh, now how do you use it? So then I guess I just need to have an icon for it on the desktop.
I did think I saw somethign that brought up a list just by pressing on the screen. Maybe a different app, or settings. I'll continue to investigate that...but thanks again. I can do what I need!
What a great site this is. I hope to return the favor of helpful answers as time goes on.

Long press on the icon and you can change the shortcut options (which app to use, which icon to use, etc)
Whats the app need to be for the phone...
If I select "Phone" application... it doesnt' quite operate like the stock launcher...
When on a phone, the stock launcher when you click on the phone icon, goes to the dialer/call information... when you launch the phone application, it goes to the keypad but not the current call window...
you can get to the current call window by going to the status screen adn clicking on the little green phone during an active call though...
any ideas?

You can't use the "Samsung Widgets" outside of TouchWiz. Go to the market and search for clock widgets. There are dozens, free and otherwise.
Thanks! This is my first android phone so this is all new to me!!!

Samsung, this is pathetic!
Wasted 2 hours of my life dealing with your stupidity.
heres the solution (problem was launcher pro):
1. grab the homeswitcher from market
2. set touchwiz crap as default.
3. reboot phone.
from then on, kies acts normally, phone gets detected normally etc etc etc.
thanks for wasting my time samsung.
edit: even after this i had probs, seems i need to reboot phone everytime i need to connect it. on first connect after fresh reboot it seems to work. goodluck. (very very very poor software as expected from samsung)
edit2: this is a bug fest! who coded this samsung? some student? jesus this soft is so bad it kills all the experience. what a piece of junk. barely works. flaky. buggy. samsung, fire your software team asap. they suck. only a true amateur can output this kind of garbage. this is below badly coded visualbasic garbage.

What's the action to execute TWlauncher ? (I mean the TouchWiz app-drawer)
I would mixup LauncherPro homes with TW horizontally scrolling apps
I wonder if there's a way to strip out the touchjizz widgets and use them in launcher pro or something, or make them available for any launcher replacement. I actually like the calendar clock widget.
I'll try picking touchjizz apart tomorrow at work if I get some extra time.

Background...
I have one of my home screens on my launcher dedicated to speed dial contacts of the 10 people I call / text most frequently.
I can save the home screen set up either with Titanium or just using Go Launcher's embedded settings saver.
And if I switch to a new ROM I can restore those settings. All the icons for my speed dial contacts show up right where I left them, but they don't link to anything. Touching one gives an error message of "No such contact exists"
Now, all my apps transfer fine and the home screen icons still work after restoring the settings. For example I have Gmail as one of my home screen shortcuts. Once I reinstall Gmail, the Gmail icon that restored will work fine. It finds Gmail and launches it.
But the contacts don't work. I have to go back and delete each one from the home screen and re-add it.
Am I doing something wrong? I use the same contacts list to install my contacts every time. It's the same file I've used since October. So the contacts list is the same. Does it have something to do with the way different ROM's store the contacts?
If you use google to store your contacts then they'll be restored with ANY rom and will include all of your "group" lists...

I don't have any problem restoring my contacts. They go right back where they are supposed to be. I can open my contact list and everything it right where it's supposed to be in the right groups in the right folders, etc etc etc.
It's the shortcuts to the contacts on my home screen that don't work after a fresh ROM install and restoration of my launcher set up. But the one shortcut I have for a direct dial works fine. And all my app shortcuts work fine. It's just the contact shortcuts.

Really works and it does so fast, clean and easy. I think it's the only app available on the Play Store that actually does this WITHOUT breaking the apps.
GREAT JOB!
Wish the UI was cleaner, based on ICS design elements.
Thanks!

Works great. Just one thing, when I tried to hide SIM Toolkit, it makes my phone lose the signal n when it got the signal back, SIM Toolkit appear again on my app drawer.

Guess I must be doing something wrong...?
Great idea, this app!
However, I don't get the option to "hide" a particular item...
All it offers for me - when long-pressing an app - is "Clear data", "Freeze" or "Uninstall"...
What am I doing wrong/missing?

The freeze option would allow you to hide all icons and completely disable an app but this probably isn't what you want...
Short press the app to transition into the "Details" view at which point you'll see a list of icons associated with the application. Short press the icons you want to show/hide to check them and then click the "Show/Hide Icon(s)" button to process the operation.
After hiding/showing icons some launchers will require you to reboot before they actually show/hide.
I've installed it and when I run it, It asks for root permissions, which I click allow, but then the app just sits there with the spinning circle and "Asking for root permissions" It's been like that for about 10min so I think it's stuck

Haven't seen/heard of this before. My first suggestion would be to exit out and retry. If that doesn't work you can PM me here or email [email protected] (better option since it dings my phone ) and I'll try and help you resolve it.

I had the same problem here. I restartet the Device and it works now.
this is awesome, i've been looking for something like this since ditching non-stock launchers. Question, will uninstalling undo anything I hid? or do i need to do this before uninstalling to prevent apps from permanently being hidden? I also noticed that hiding the icons this way prevents them from showing up when searching on the Evo.

This application modifies system settings to hide the icons or freeze applications. They will continue to be hidden/frozen after uninstalling so you should unhide them first or reinstall the application when you need to restore them.
I installed this because it sounded like it would hide the icons but still let me use the apps. I spent about 10 minutes going through my apps and hiding them.
I hid my Apex launcher and after I exited the app the system freaked the **** out going to a few other apps and then finally the default CM9 launcher when I hit the home key.
Also it doesn't highlight everything I check to be hidden in blue. So I had to go through and unhide everything just to be safe, taking another 10 minutes to sort through my app list trying to remember what I ticked off. Around 500 apps, not fun.

Technically it disables the Activity associated with the icon which does in fact make it unusable while hidden. Beyond a launcher with the capability to hide icons this is the only way to do it.

For most launchers this would be fine as separate Activities are created for the "Settings" and "Launcher" functionalities. Unfortunately this is not the case with Apex launcher and I sent them an email a while back suggesting a change.
In general care should be taken while hiding launchers and system apps (titles in red). Maybe I should do something more than just the red text to indicate caution should be taken. Maybe a warning prompt with an option to disable it for those that like to live dangerously ;-)

Hmm I haven't heard of this issue but will definitely look into it. The Activities (icon rows) are not cached and are loaded when you enter the details screen so they should represent the current state (ie: blue = hidden).
In the next few days I'll be putting out an updated release that will contain filtering which would have made it easier to locate what you hid. Sorry for your troubles.
Just uploaded version 1.0.5. Only change is to filter Apex Launcher from the list of available applications since it doesn't like being hidden. As always shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll be more than happy to help.
I assume that pretty much any launcher is going to react the same way if it's the active launcher and you're hiding it.
Anyway thanks for the quick response.
Basically. I prefer GoLauncher. So, for the life of me, I can't figure out how, assuming there's even a way with GOv2, to remove Launcher Pro. The reason I want to do so is because every so often my phone freezes up or reboots (usually when I'm playing games or using one of the map/navigator programs), and when it reboots, it brings up LP and I have to wait, sometimes a good 5-10 minutes, before it might switch back, or I have to screw around in my files and come back to the launcher, hoping it's done it faster. So I'm hoping to just remove the base issue by removing LP.
Any other suggestions would of course be enormously welcome.
Also, any suggestions for preventing so many lock ups with games and navigation.
Secondary question. Is there any way to completely stop getting notifications about my gmail account (mail, etc)? It's just a trash account for me and the stupid notifications just get my hopes up that I may have gotten something important. :\
As for removing launcher pro you have to use a root capable explorer and go to system/apps/ and look for launcherpro. Apk or whatever gov2 has it named as and delete it.
To stop email notifications go to the email app and hit the menu button and press settings there should be a tick mark next to email notifications, remove it and no more status bar notifications.

I also recommend updating to the latest GOV3.2 -- there are memory tweaks and fixes so that you can run memory hogging launchers such as GoLauncher.
As above ..
I'm setting up a Huawei P10 Plus for someone and I'm a little rusty on Android. It's running the latest version of their EMUI software, 9.1.0 on Android Version 9.
I'm also using the latest version of Nova Launcher.
What i've done is this ..
Long press home screen.
Select "Widgets"
Scroll down to "Contacts" and select "Quick Message".
Long press on that and drag to home screen.
Choose contact.
When I tap the newly created widget, it always opens up the stock android messaging app regardless of what i've got set as my default SMS app. If I go to Settings->Apps->Default Apps and select "Textra", which is the preferred SMS option of the person i'm setting the phone up for, I get the usual warning but I tap on "Change" anyway.
I've tried installing Chomp and Pulse SMS and setting them as the default app and it still always uses the stock messaging app for the widget.
Am I doing anything wrong ?. Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies, It's taken me this long to get through them all ..
Anyway, I've fixed it. It turns out that the contacts app that I was using was the default Huawei one, so it didn't have the functionality to create the direct messaging widgets.
I installed the default google contacts app from the play store and I can now create the widgets exactly as I need. I'm happy for this thread to be closed now, but thanks again the the huge outpouring of support and suggestions ..
