I have a Telus Hero on the HSPA network. Do any of the upgrades work on phones using this network? Most of the apps I'd like are for android 1.6 or higher
Thanks in advance

ok so i just bought a google ion recently. it still has the tmobile sim in it. i live in canada (vancouver) and i can't seem to get 3g speeds out here on the ion (roaming on rogers network). i was thinking of just selling the ion and picking up a rogers magic instead so that i could get 3g speeds. after my use of the tmobile sim runs out at the end of the month, i was planning on using rogers (or fido) anyway.
now what's the deal here? do you guys think i should get the rogers phone or not?
is the ion rom a lot better than the rogers?
why can't i get 3g on the ion? i thought rogers used 850/1900 and tmobile used 900/1900?
i don't really want to throw in a cooked rom on either one. i used to use a lot of cooked roms on winmo, but i don't really want to get into cooked roms using android. anyway thanx...
no t-mobile uses 1700 in the states.......u are right about rogers' bands...getting the magic will get you the 3G speeds you are looking for.
cant comment on the rom though
thanks for the reply
anyone else know which is better rom?
3G bands in Magic depends on hardware or firmware?
Chipsets MSM7200A & MSM7201A supply all range HSDPA/WCDMA: 850/850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz
Can i flash Rogers with Ion firmware (or other) and change 3G bands from 850/1900 to 900/2100?
Ion ROM is faster than Rogers Magic ROM but it lacks some of the HTC built-in apps (Exchange, camera/camcorder interface, and etc).
hey everybody. if this question is in the wrong place, mods/admins please move to correct thread section.
i am i need of phones that will work on the Rogers hspa 3g network in canada. i right now have a tmobile hd2 running android 2.3 and i got my wife a tmobile mytouch 3g running android 2.2. but from the information i found we will not get the 3g band because the phones 3g frequencies are wrong. can anybody help me confirm that? we right now use them but they are only on the 2g band and our reception is pretty terrible right now. if that is the case can anybody tell me if at&t phones operate 3g on the right frequency for rogers? thanks allot.
im specifically wanting to know if the Samsung Captivate S will work on rogers 3g. thanks!(but if somebody can tell me if most at&t 3g phones will work on rogers that would be greatly appreciated. thanks!)
chk Nexus S
Check out Nexus S ...might be available soon in canada for rogers
yeah the nexus s looks nice, but i still need to know if at&t and rogers operate on the same 3g band. because the tmobile phones we have do not work on the rogers 3g.....
Noob question sorry. My buddy has a GT-I9020T (900mhz?) running on wind, he wants to change service providers to rogers (850mhz?). If i were to root his phone and flash the rogers radio onto it, would he be able to connect to the rogers network with a rogers sim? afaik the answer is no but i just want to verify before i give him incorrect information.
No the radio is also hardware based but from what I understand you'll be able to get 2G {Edge} on rogers but not 3G and on Bell and Telus it won't work at all
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
That is correct, you will be able to connect to Rogers using GSM and only with 2g speeds. Forget about connecting with any network that strictly uses HSDPA like Koodo, as it will not work (not sure if Telus is the same). I've tested this myself - had to get rid of my i9020T because around my house Wind had a dead spot -_-
like the guys said, the frequencies are hardware based, so there is nothing you can do to change them. rooting won't help. you'd need to buy a whole new nexus s that has the correct frequencies for the Rogers network 3g bands.
I just recently switched my Rooted Inspire from AT&T to T-Mobile and have searched around but no sold answer for best ROM, Radio and any other tweaks that can help my Inspire run on this network smoother and improved signal.
Thanks Again!!
If the inspire is like the captivate, best you can get is edge. Got to do with frequencies. Tmo uses 1700mhz band for 3g. Att doesn't use that band at all, but do share a common gsm band for edge.
Yea I found that out before I switched service. Is there any special radio I should be using or tweaks that can improve any aspects of the phone.
Hey thanks anyway I appreciate it.
what radio is working best for you?
im using the latest t-mobile US radio and its not all that great..
would the bell radio work better even though bell doesnt use AWS/2100?
hi
bumping this for people who use the search feature.

I'm running 11.69A.3504.00U_11.23.3504.07_M2 on wind mobile and it seems to have decent speeds and signal. Not any faster then previous versions and not any slower. Although i haven't experimented too much.
