[RECOVERY] Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap: Let the ROM development begin! - Droid 2 Android Development

Koush's recovery bootstrap has been updated to work with Droid 2. Please visit his blog for more info:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/08/droid-x-recovery.html
Also, an informal fairwell D2 community, I've had too many issues with my past moto droid 1's and my droid 2 was one of the ones with signal issues so I'm just going with the incredible instead.

please, please, please someone develop a straight-up FROYO ROM. no tweaking, no modding, just FROYO and all it's standards. k, thanks.

AWESOME! some one please make a rom with 720p capability

Installed, works great. Got a nandroid backup now

Please thank these developers for their efforts and time spent to make our devices sick as hell.
Just treat it as any other D2 Rom or follow the link instructions that apply to the ROM your about to flash:
1. Bootstrap recovery
2. Reboot recovery
3. DO A NANDROID BACKUP!(Optional but recommended!)
4. Wipe data & cache
5. Mount system and mount data
6. Install zip from sd card
7. Reboot Phone
Please let me know of any bugs you come to find besides the top row on the device keyboard not working correctly and the version warning pop up when using Swype so I can attempt to fix these minor issues and expand our limited library of custom ROM's !
Thank you,
DroidzforLife

Rumm Rx on my DROID 2....

Did you have any problems with these roms?
I tried Rumm Rx v1.0. The problem with the keyboard is really just a mapping issue.
The part that didn't sit well with me was that it ran rather clunkily in comparison with ApeX.
i just posted a keyboard fix http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-roms/103957-ultimate-droid-d2-here-4.html#post1068253 over on droid forums. and i got camera working on rumm rx. just no video. and i linked your post at df over in the general section here

The only two problems that I have found so far are:
- The hardware keyboard has some mapping issues
- The camera needs to have the max mega pixels change in your ROM's build.prop.
Both of these issues have been remedied by Mikeyinid
Dont give me the credit. Actually the keybaord fix is very simple, and the camera fix only works on rumm rx and Squiddly directed me on how to get it goin(for the most part). And it has nothing to do with the build.prop, not that I changed anyway. I just deleted everything camera and media related and put it in from a near stock(as close to stock as I can find)rom. The backlight is also an issue on most DX roms on the D2. I figured it out on UD but cant figure it out with the rubix or darkslide rom. Speaking of darkslide, that is a very sharp rom, I asked the dev that made it about a port and he said he will work on it starting next week. That will be a very nice addition to D2 rom line-up. You can check that rom out here http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-roms/5788-rom-darkslide-v4.html
I'm going to try out the apex 1.3 gingerbread style rom built for the dx right now to see if it works... will that be safe or is that stupid to go ahead and try out the rom?

You do those things at your own risk... I have personally flashed every DX rom I can find on my D2, they ALL booted. Your gonna run into the same problems on all of them though; no camera, physical keyboard issues(easy fix), and maybe backlight staying on. Im not saying to do it, but if your gonna do it, be prepared for the problems I mentioned. One thing I will say, Im almost positive that if that rom is alot different than the ApeX thats already been ported, fab will bring it to the D2 also. Patience is a virtue

I wish I knew. I did get it working on rumm rx, all I did was delete everything camera related in apps and lib and it worked. Just no video.
Ok, ill try and replace all the droid x apex camera files with droid 2 camera files...

Ok. Also go system>lib>delete dsp and hw folders and replace them with ones from the D2. Then, go system>usr> and delete keychars and keylayout folders and replace them with ones from D2. That will get physical keyboard working. Let me know what the rom is like.
The DX roms wont work 100% The camera will NOT work because it is a different camera and requires different libs and the keyboard is unmapped because it doesn't have the correct keychars from the DROID2. Otherwise they work fine. I made JRummy a good D2 copy and kejar a D2 copy of his rom.

speaking of keyboard mapping would you happen to know which file to edit to stop the back button on the keyboard from working or to make it only back up when i hold it or press it twice? just wondering.
I don't know how many times I've typed up a long post only to have it all disappear with a misplaced keystroke.
I can an update.zip with the needed files to make a 2.3.340 based DX rom work with a D2.. if anyone wants it?
Ok guys I posted in the DX dev forums the files needed to port a DX ROM to a D2... Its in an update.zip format... Use at your own risk!!!

Motorola leaked 2.3 motoblur

I just read there was a gingerbread motoblur build leaked by Motorola. I guess they are hearing us complain about there software updates, and an official gingerbread build for the defy might be a reality.

official froyo takes a long time,
and suddenly now there's a rumour about gingerbread update?

That is a hands on. I say only a matter of time for the defy. It is an insanely popular device worldwide.

lol.. he cant found phone application.. of course.. there's no "phone" but dialer..
again. all we have to do is wait. and maybe this build come to defy next year or maybe someone just found the betas as usual..
quick question, if this doesn't become available for the defy is there any chance to port it to our phone without breaking the signing?
it possible with a nandroid backup but..its necessary see if the hardware its the same etc...etc...
they have similar hardware but not really the same
I won't recommend to install this Droid X update. It should be possible to flash it via clockworkmod, but the bootloader is only half the size than a normal defy bootloader. If everything goes wrong and you can't go into the flashmode (Vol + while starting) you'll never get your phone back running....
Indeed. And since it's not the same hardware, I do not see how this will help Defy users.
Furthermore, I disagree that the Defy is 'insanly popular'. Amongst current users, probably. But that's the case for any phone that a user picked out themselves.
That said, the author of the video seems rather .. unused to handling the phone, he regularly performs actions that seem to have no effect with the phone he is holding.
we can do a port from droid 2, but it if gingerbread can not be run on 2.6.32 kernel we will have to wait for a leak, for now there are two leaks( droid x and droid2) so who will be the next one?
well it would be awesome to have gingerbread on defy, but i dont think motorola is going to release it this early. and i dont think there is going to be a gingerbread rom for defy until the smart guys on cyanogenmod show some love for the lifeproof device. and its not likely that we are gettting gingerbread right now cuz we dont even have official updates for froyo till today. but its motorola, who knows, they might just release the update right now or even years later. lets hope they do it soon.
I don't think we we'll see an official Gingerbread Update for the Defy EVER. Why should they!? Till now the Defy is not such a high end device as the other Motorola Devices which got Gingerbread already or in near future. I think they only release an Froyo Update and then concentrate on other devices.
Furthermore i guess before they will take some men from their dev team to build a Gingerbread Update for our devices, they will release maybe a device like a Defy 2 with better specs and finally an actual software version.
But how much effort is it to build a official Gingerbread Rom for the Defy at Motorola? They already have a proper Version for the Droid X and the Milestone 2. Therefore it would only be the bootloader with the drivers which they have anyway. Or is it more difficult?
Bye

N900 runs gingerbread on an older kernel, I hope that it can run using a froyo kernel
Aslong as the bootloader is locked this isn't easy to just port it..
I really don't like this policy of locked bootloaders..
Also I think before releasing a 2.3 for the Defy they might plan a Defy 2 with 2.3 as a "feature"
But about this, as i'm not a developer myself. Isn't is basically possible to sign gingerbread rom on the computer and have the rom in a form of nandroid backup? or a update.zip which you can install from stock recovery?

To sign you need The Key and we don't have The Key . Motorola's policy.
Can't we flash Droid-Firmware's without the bootloader(will the system boot)?

Try it...:
- get the droid x zip-file
- delete everything but the system.img
- delete all flashingcommands out the script under \META-INF\com\google\android\
- resign it with signapk
- copy it to your root of your sd-card
- rename it to update.zip
- reboot to clockworkmod recovery
- apply update.zip from your sdcard
- reboot and you'll done
Report back here... doing this won't damage your phone forever...if it does'nt boot any more, you can get it back to life with RSD-Lite and a sbf-file
you can also test with the recovery partition .. its another "kernel + initrd (cpio.gz)"

[Q] Flashing roms?!

Can anyone tell me can I install roms meant for milestone or droid on my phone xt720 using open recovery??
Any major risk......?
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
The major risk is that it won't work. It's not for our phone, so don't flash it.
Don't do it.

Milestone ROMs have to be ported to work on XT720. That's what Dexter did for us--he combined the leaked Milestone 2.2 with some parts of the Motoroi 2.2 to create a 2.2 port for XT720. The Milestone, Droid and XT720 are based on the same basic platform (sholes) but they are not identical--for example, we don't have a keyboard. Some parts can just be copied and some parts have to be modified (but which parts and how is a question better answered by someone at Dexter's skill level).

Android 2.3.5 AOSP Gingerbread

I didn't make this ROM. Credit goes out to the developer.
This rom is mostly AOSP besides the bootscreen and CPUconfig menu
All Google Apps are up to date as of 7/31/2011
No need to get seperate gapps zip

Thanks for this.
Wonder if this will work on my milestone. Anyone know if the droid and milestone roms are interchangable?

They won't work at all. Droid's bootloader is unlocked, Milestone's isn't. Flashing this would be a big problem for your Milestone.
Thks for the heads up on it.
running this as of yesterday. super fast, running chevyno1 lowv 1.1 kernel. only thing i miss from CM is the CM parts. gonna push it to my /system/app folder and set things up that way.
Honestly, I've tried overclocking this, and its still terribly slow. That's why I'm sticking to CM7 800mhz oc

Need help with ROM Development

I wanted to start making a HTC Sense 2.2 ROM for the Motorola Backflip. I need to know if there is anyone who knows of a ROM that looks almost like it or can help me make it. I have never made a ROM before and am familiar with HTML code and C++ so if there is any way to make it with this please let me know.
Thanks.
