Need help with ROM Development - General Questions and Answers

I wanted to start making a HTC Sense 2.2 ROM for the Motorola Backflip. I need to know if there is anyone who knows of a ROM that looks almost like it or can help me make it. I have never made a ROM before and am familiar with HTML code and C++ so if there is any way to make it with this please let me know.
Thanks.

this is just something i would say to try out for your answer......i would first make a backup just in case though so if you dont like it or it affects apex in a negative way you can just flash back.....whenever placing stuff from one rom to the next you should do this as it may not work

[Q] [REQ] Gingerbread Dialer/Contacts APK?

This might be a kind of noob-ish request, but I'm trying to avoid rooting (I know, I know) and wondered if there was a way to port over the dialer-contacts in APK form from 2.3.
I would appreciate any help/guidance.
Did anything change in the dialer between Froyo and Gingerbread?
Took these off my Nexus S. Not sure if they'll work but here you go!

Be careful. Make a backup of the original apks first (or a full nandroid backup) . if they don't work, they're likely to cause the system to crash-loop (continuous FCs). Happened too me when trying a moded phone.apk before.
Aren't the dialers the same, I didn't notice any differences apart from the look, from froyo and now on gingerbread

Thanks for the fast response, but I'm getting a parse error trying to install the APKs.
To everyone else: I'm mostly trying to get something more like AOSP over the stock HTC stuff, and most of what I've found on here is stuff designed to flash on top of ROMs for rooted phones.

[Q] How to install Cyanogenmod7 on inspire 4g

sorry if there is an exact thread just like this, imagine there is but i wasnt able to find it. i just got my inspire today im familiar with android phones but i know the phone just came out so im wondering if someone can walk me through this, from what i understand ill need to root, flash the cyanogen7 rom then flash a kernel that will allow me to have sound. i was wondering which kernel i would need and what is the easiest root method currently available. thanks for the help guys!!
edit: there is no modified version of this with a different kernel that will allow us to flash the inspire kernel and make sound work??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
There is not a CM7 for the Inspire yet. I can't wait until there is tho, I'm not a fan of Sense... but making due for right now.

i thought you could install any desire hd rom, there is a cyanogen7 rom for the hd right here. and just flash a kernel over it to get the audio working. or am i wrong?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
cyanogenmod has its own kernel that's made specifically for AOSP. A normal sense kernel will definitely not work for it. It is cool though, I flashed it for a few minutes and it's wayyyy quick with the 1.51ghz kernel they have on there, too bad we don't have source to get sound yet
Yeah just played around with it. Superfast. Love all the gingerbread stuff too. Tried fladhing those kernels the phone wont boot
bump, i see people posting modified versions of cm7 for dhd do they have different kernels that would allow the sound to work on our inspires?

Yes, yes they do.
Check out the android development section. There is a working kernel for sound on CM7 and I'm using it right now.

I thought releasing this would get more chefs into the arena which is doubleshot. Guess not.

I'm doing my best to read and read and learn so hopefully one day I can be in the arena with the other devs on here. It doesn't seem like there's much communal support for this phone yet, unfortunately, like an "official" recovery or kitchen support, which would handily speed up development for this phone.
Will this wipe /data?
No

Disapointment YoY a smart phones nothing without a stroung Dev Community. I understand the noobs who get mad because there's not a CM port already. They just don't understand you can do **** with out the Source. There's no such thing as a an "improper ROM". There just ungrateful, annoying, depressing assholes :3. I know, I was going to release a Barebones GB rom based on CM using Lazlo's hacked kernal for my Dream. They complained saying the kernal sucked, and the ROM didn't have all the things a CM rom would have. It was a perfect ROM, just no Wallpapers, Ringtones, Sms, Only in English, and other stuff like that. So I thought id share a story. There just annoying, think of them as spoiled brats. They'll never learn how to respect a DEV. So Please don't pull your Rom's.

[Q] CM7 in emulator (AVD)

Hi all, this is a question even if i smell development spirit...
Maybe you know that i was about releasing KMApp v2.0 but didn't. This is because i cannot debug with my phone as i need it up and running fine for my job / university. I can't do testing so i asked people to do it for me and they were very kind. Unfortunately, tests i wanted to do are difficult to explain, resulting in wrong results.
So i changed point of view and started to think about AVD.
Is it possible to run CM7 for our device in emulator?
Did someone ever try it?
If you succeded please post detailed steps, if you know it is not possible explain why.
PS: i say CM7 and not samsung froyo because i don't see the point on being stuck with froyo. CM7 is stable enough to be used so KMApp v2.0 will be tested only in CM7. I will move to CM9 when it will be as stable as CM7 because now i don't feel it is.

I see this is for android 1.5... Are you sure it still works with GB??
A LOT has changed since then!
Probably not. I had a look at it blog /website. It some what made use of the android sdk but with a better UI. The only way to simulate a rom would be to force it run instead of the os that runs in the sdk.
When ics was released many devs created a rom from the sdk by some how extracting the os from the sdk. So if you are able to some how replace that os with cm7 and then run the avd you would have your cm7 simulated. It's pretty hard but I think that's the only way.
