[Q] WM6.5 - USB Connection type menu gone? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
First off, I'm owning a Samsung Omnia Qwerty (B7610) and I have a problem...
I'm trying to create a backup of my contacts by using the Samsung PC Studio software. Whenever I connect my USB cable to my phone, I usually get a selection menu whether to select "PC Studio", "Mass Storage" or "Active Sync". However, this menu is gone. Whenever I plug the cable in, it just starts with Active Sync (or Mass Storage) as defined in the settings screen. However, these things won't coƶperate with the PC Studio software.
Is there any way to get this menu back when I connect my USB cable to my phone?
If you don't know what I'm asking about, here's a picture that somewhat looks like the menu I'm trying to get:
byteshift.net/scr000014.jpg or byteshift.net/98835935.jpg
n.b.: put (www) before the links!
Thanks in advance.
#edit: this outside-link restriction thingy is annoying =[

I was looking for this just now too. I found it in Settings / All Settings / Connections / USB to PC.

USB Connection menu gone!

Hi.
I'm using the TP for quite some time now without too much hassle, but one thing annoys me.
For a few days the selection menu is gone when you connect your TP to USB. Normally it pops up a screen to select ActiveSync, FlashDrive or Internet Sharing mode.
Now, it just uses the last selection and I've never switched on the "Don't ask me again" button.
I've found the USB to PC settings which do about the same, but even if I switch on "Ask about connection type when I connect" it just doesn't. And then, I like the TouchFLO popup better.
Anyone a suggestion on how to get the selection screen back?
Thanks a bunch!
If you go to parameters, connexion, Usb parameters, you need to activate :
- Activesync (synchronise with Outlook)
- Activate the functionnality advanced netwerk
- Ask the type of connexion when connected
Same here.
im too afraid to tick the dont ask again box insase i cant find it again. it does sometimes not appear though
Perhaps the USB cable you use is not optimal.
Do you try also with the original one??
As strange as the menu disappeared, it was there again yesterday all of a sudden.
It appears "fixed" but I must agree, it doesn't show every time... Definately...

Options screen missing when connecting USB

Hi:
WM6.5 cooked in a Diamond. When connecting the USB cable, three options: ActiveSync, use as HD and Internet Sharing. By mistake I selected the check box "always do this and don't ask again" (or something like that), having chosen the Internet Sharing. Now, of course, every time I connect by USB, Internet Sharing starts without further options.
The question: how can I recover the options screen in order to choose, when I insert the USB cable, the original three options?
Thanks in advance!

Settings>Connections>USB to PC
There's an option at the bottom that allows you to get that prompt back
No way. That option doesn't do reappear the prompt, even if it seems exactly what should happen...
it's a windows thing
find and remove autostart for your phones in the pc registry

Fixing the optimus 3d usb mass storage issue

Hello, I have been turning mad lately since my Optimus 3D began acting weird once I connected it to my PC to transfer large amounts of data in USB MASS STORAGE mode.
In the beginning, the transfer was ok and connection didn't show any problem. However, at a given (arbitrary) point, it just connected and disconnected by itself several times in just few seconds.
I thought it was the usb cable, so I changed it, but that didn't fixed it. Then I tried it with several other computers, and that happened randomly on all of them.
Then I thought it could be the micro-usb connector being damage, but as I closely analysed it in the computer side, I found that the phone was connecting ok, but was recognised the wrong way. (drivers were ok, as I reinstalled everything several times)
In fact, the LG update recognised the phone's model and connection. It simply didn't worked as a mass storage usb device.
I spent hours searching the web for answers about this issue, but the only thing I could found was one guy telling to remove the battery for 10 minutes in order really reset the phone's usb mode.
I did it and it worked! HOWEVER, the issue reapeared quickly once I connected the phone to the PC via USB. (it took several minutes to happen, but happened)
I finally found this forum and read a lot of complaints about LG phones.
However, it seemed to be a software error, not a hardware one. Wich was good news.
I was thinking to send the phone to LG for repair, but I had little hope they would even check such an arbitrary issue with usb connection and I thought they would simply say it's my computers fault, so I kept searching.
I finally found a similar issues with Galaxy S2 on the forums, and someone fixed it accessing the "PhoneUtil" hidden app in that phone.
This app don't exist in LG phones, but there IS a hidden menu to fix this, but you will have to install a free shortcut creator app form the market place in order to access it:
- download "ANY CUT" from the market place
- run it and create a NEW shortcut
- select ACTIVITY
- scroll down and tap on: com.lge.hiddenmenu.port_setting.PortSetting
- give the shortcut a short name like "Port Setting"
now you have created a new shortcut in your home screen (somewhere)
Once you tap on it, a menu will pop and let you choose the type of connection to be used by the USB port.
By default, "NO RETENTION" is selected.
If you want to force the phone to use the usb connection for data transfer with your PC, then select AP USB
(if you check the "retain AP USB after reboot" it will freeze your phone and you will have to long press the power button to shut it down, but it will actually work and will be set this way until you change it again)
Voila! That fixed my LG P920 Optimus 3D USB transfering issues.
If you need to make a software upgrade at some point instead of using it for USB transfer, just change the setting to "NO RETENTION" again and check the "reatin after reboot" option.
I just wanted to share this, as I found no fix for my problem in the net and I think this should be happening to someone else.
Feedback is very welcome! (even needed, just in case this is braking something)
By the way, it's a good idea to activate the "Debugging mode for USB" in settings/applications since it seems to make a more robust conection with the phone for mass storage transfer.
As why this entire issue is happening, it seems the USB conection can handle multiple transfer modes. One of those is USB Mass Storage mode (like every pendrive out there) but the other one is a LG propietary comunication mode that I suppose was done in order to have full access to the phone firmware through the computer.
The bug appears in the moment when the phone have to decide if it should engage on mode or the other.
I have noticed (since I forced the port setting to AP USB) that the phones screen will turn itself on randomly once connected and that it don't stay active even if you specifically check that option in the development menu.
I suppose the original bug is still there in someway, but at least it will not ruin the data transfers.
Ok, just in case you don't want / can't make the shortcut for the hidden menu, you can use this method to access the full hidden menu right out of the box without any external app:
push the button to make a call,
now enter the number:
3845#*920#
This will redirect you to the full hidden menu. Once there, you can go to the PORT SETTINGS menu and set it to AP USB.
And if you want to upgrade with the LG software, you must set this to AP USB and make it stay. Then when you are upgrading, you must stay vigilant and press (and keep pressed) the volume up button in the moment it reboot the phone (or before it reboots, just to be sure)
This way, a white screen with red text "factory upload" will show and upgrades will have no problems.
(this mode normally only happens when you press the volume up button with the phone off, and then connect it to the usb port and there is an LG software commanding the phone via usb)

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace II - Disable MTP?

Hi all,
I've a proud owner of this I8160 phone. I'm glad of it, but the problem is that I can't access to the SD external's contents.
Firstly, I can get the USB working on PC by enabling it on "Settings -> Wireless networks -> USB settings". However, external SD (empty folders "external_sd" and "usbStorage" make me guessing about it) is not accessible, and I don't know how to get it.
I figured that "MTP connected" note on the phone has to be involved, so I tried to disable it. Searching in the web points to that USB debugging must be enabled; however, this won't perform anything new.
Hence, my question is, do you know how to disable the MTP connection on this phone? I want only USB mass storage, no kies at all!
Any ideas? Rooting may help?

No need to root your phone if you just want to transfer files. I have the same issue as yours.
Here's what I did:
1. On your phone go to settings>wifi and networks>USB Utilities
2. Do not connect the cable to the pc yet, tap first the box on the phone saying connect to pc (something like that)
3. Then connect the cable from the phone to the pc, a green android will appear then
You can now transfer files from your pc to your phone, vice versa.:good:

photo thumbnails - windows 7?

Hey guys, for some time now no computer will display my photos thumbnails. Kind of annoying when trying to pick and choose which photos to pull off the phone.
Tried making sure thumbnail view is selected in windows.
Tried PTP and MPT mode.
Whats odd is the old photos will still display thumbnails but the new photos (last half or so) will not.
They display on the phone fine but through windows explorer no dice.
thanks
shameless bump..... nobody?

2. Settings > More > USB Utilities > Connect Storage to PC
If you're charging through USB it will tell you, "USB is connected. Remove the cable." So remove it and plug it back in again and then click the button which now says, "Turn on USB storage" then OK.
or Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB Utilities -> Connect storage to PC and connect it that way, then you'll get the icons.

Ive been through those first two links before posting, thanks tho
Im not quite understanding what your #2 option is saying. Are those settings on the phone or PC? Those sound like settings on a samsung phone with touchwiz not android itself. My only settings are MTP and PTP
this is something with the phone but its been doing it on my last two ROMs. half my pics do have thumbnails but the second later half do not.
Yes those steps should be done on your phone. I found it on other forums.
You could copy the folder on your PC then remove the unwanted pictures. No other ideas for Windows, sorry.
Me too. frustrating!
