What do you think. 10mb is too much because you can't play 3D games, but maybe 5mb or 2.5mb ram hack? Thanx

not gonna happen, try swapper activator from the market this allows u to hold a swap on fat32 else format your memory card and use one of the scripts to enable swap on the swap partition. Only way to increase memory...

True, but everyone is saying that swap makes froyo roms a bit unstable. That's why I thought a 5mb ram hack.
P.s 100% you'll see an improvement in a ram hack rather than the swap. That's what people are looking for.

I would have to disagree, swap was giving no issues on several roms for me and 5+ other G1 users on the same roms. Compcache was giving us all issues, but only a few random reboots on occasion, or a FC or two.
However I am hearing that CC works fine as of the latest cyanogen release. I think the issues some people are actually having is ending up with both swap and CC on since the "default" settings changed over to cc.
As for the ram hack? I've not been having memory issues in froyo as far as a shortage on ram. I use swap, and have used it since I first rooted and etc. but I think I'll give CC another try now that cyanogen is recommending it. I'd rather have a good "3D fix" like what firerat did with his script on 2.1 roms, I don't think it works with 2.2 roms from what I read, but I would like to have LWP running like they did on 2.1
Just my two cents
Ramhack is not even possible on the newer kernel branches, plus 2.1+ is very dependent on 3D that it wouldn't make sense to add a "ramhack". it cripples 2.2 if you would do so..Go ask dumfuq or pershoot and they'll tell you that no ramhack will work for 2.2 .

Dude.... don't say that. We're talking about android here. Really, a 2mb ram hack will completely cripple any 2.2 roms?!

Before anyone of you attempt this, adding swap file to your devices grants you the ability to run more processes, sure, but what you fail to realize is the devices almost constantly writes to the swap file.which uses up CPU cycles, causing your device to be a bit slower, also, flash memory, regardless the.format, has limited number of writes, adding a swap file makes the device write almost constantly,.reducing the overall lifetime of your flash memory. Adding a swap file isnt the best idea if you're looking for speed increase.

I thought Android 2.1 starting utilizing the GPU more, making the ramhack infeasible because it will severely degrade screen rendering performance from Android 2.1 and up.
Compcache is okay. Don't swap if you can help it.

Okay? People remember when 2.1 was way unstable then openeclair 2.1 w/ 10mb ram hack made it at least toyible (I know that it's not a word). I didn't in anyway make it severely degradable...

I can see your not going to be convinced easily....If it was possible dumfuq o pershoot would have made a kernel with the ram hack...But froyo is more dependent on the GPU. Why do you think phones with 2.1+ have such powerful gpus? One app that would suffer is gallery 3D,videos,youtube,games,maybe animations. Just use compache, if swap isnt something you want...I dont like froyo on the G1, so i stick to 1.6, which is where it really shines..But i hate giving up things like unlock via trackball, text color, etc. And there's no way im putting vanilla on my MTS cause that wont do it justice.

Agreed. I don't know why you're so fond of the idea of having +5mb of ram anyways, that's not even enough to run a lot of apps or processes. The speed up would not be noticeable and since the froyo roms use more of the gpu(as stated before) you would probably even see some slow downs. You have to understand this, even if we HAD the ramhack no one would use it. You're better off with a new phone.

So again, how was it possible to put a 10mb ram hack on openeclair 2.1 rom?
sent from my HTC G1 using CM7 IN-STEREO (( WHERE AVAILABLE ))
the only reason the ramhack was used then was because the gpu drivers were broken until cm5 came out
the only reason eclair became usable is because of how CM set it up - the ram hack is not possible anymore and not even useful (never was IMO)

Does every rom developer and/or Kernel builder have to come in and smack sense into you?
2 days of you arguing.. if it was possible, common sense might tell you that someone would have jumped in and said "oh, here you go"
Froyo is majorly dependent on the gpus in the new higher end android phones. Using a ram hack, takes away ram from the GPU... froyo was NEVER made for the G1.
Rather then sit here and argue with people who know 100x more about it then you, why dont you go off and try and do it yourself and learn something in the process rather then clutter the boards with your mindless blabber?

Well, it's not really a new ROM, but I haven't tried it until now...
I was always disappointed by the speed, incoming calls lag, and constantly reloading homescreen with sense ROMs. I will give it a try though! Thanks for your video!!
You are right, everyone tells he has the fastest ROM out there but in the end I got tired trying all ROMs - and maybe missed the real fast one...
One question: which sdcard and settings (partition, compcache, swap, etc.) do you use on your 32B running this rom?
Thanks!

actually some of the eclair roms work just as fast as cupcake. it all depends on how much it has been optimized for g1.
check out Super E
On video it looks really smooth, I'm downloading it right now. Let's try this thing out, I don't care if it's Cupcake, because IMO Cupcake Hero > Vanilla Eclair, only con is that many newer apps is not compatible with 1.5. But for me it's not an issue - I use very few and rather old apps, so it's not a problem for me at all . Flashing and giving feedback in few hours.

While I'm definitely not one to dispute the greatness of the Eclair on the g1 (and Froyo on it's big chested sister, the MyTouch) it needs to be understood that we are at an End of Days. Regardless of it's validity, the rumor that Gingerbread will require a 1Ghz isn't terribly far-fetched. And the state of newer Android phones shows that 1Ghz is quickly becoming the baseline, with newer and in production phones going even further. Maybe this Hero rom is out of date for running the newest apps, but hell, our phone is limiting that more than the OS is! So let's do the time warp, enjoy some majik from yesteryear, and be content knowing that we can still do amazing things with our Androids and marvel at what was created when we were still kings. For, someday, we must all retire our phones.
Everyone's waiting.

actually i think one of the main android dev team said 3.0 would work on the g1. its out this year, so not long to wait to find out
and froyo in its current form runs just about acceptably on it, so i think u should give our dear old g1 some credit its still got life in it yet
Yep, I also think that every hardware has its limitations and everything beyond 1.6 is a liitle too much for G1 (however CyanogenMod 6 is something like a miracle, it adds SO MUCH to the system, so much goodies and it runs nearly as good as Donut, one thing to improve is stability). We can port 2.1, 2.2, Hero Eclair and much more, but for what reason? Only to say "yep, it is possible" but not even 10% fast enough?
I'm so happy that even having the oldest Android device I can run almost everything that was realesed for any Android phone and I'm really thankful to all those devs, but sometimes we have to face the truth. If you want usable Sense ROM - it has to be Cupcake Sense.
So far - it's great! It runs very, very smooth! Not only that - it loads apps very quickly. I'm really happy for now. Let's see how's battery life and if it slows down after few hours. HTC improved Android very much with Sense. They've added many features not present in stock Android, and their Cupcake Sense is good enough to beat even vanilla Eclair. IMO ofc.

Come On Dudes! Do It! A Magic Sense Rom must run good on the G1!
Maybe somebody could replace the Sense UI for the Android original. The hardware is not so different, just a little bit more memory.
I want this ROM ported to HTC Magic 32B because since Android 2.x we always have memory leaks in the camera driver.
I definitely want this ported!
I definitely want this ported too! Especially if it finally bring Sense to the G1 without draining our battery in less than day. Or in another cases requires so many changes that it becomes too unstable.

this is definitely possible. Most people Dont know that the cause for battery drain is a combination of:
1. swap
2. "optimized kernels"
These both exist to make sense roms usable on our phones, and they do make them usable but they drain battery.
the only advantage that this 32a build with sense may have is optimizations of the apk's and frameworks that could account for a speedier experience, and therefore introduce the possibility of cutting down on the two factors listed above.
It is very possible to do, and in fact easy. If the demand is high enough, i'll do it myself... add ideas/input here.

Another thing to remember is that 32A's have about 100 mb more ram, so 32B's actually need some of those things to make them more usable. Anybody know anything about the radio that released with it? I mean, is it still a locked down 3.X rogers radio, or is it something 2.X, or even 6.X? Another thing of interest would be bluetooth, but I'm not sure if 32A's and B's share the same bluetooth chip. +1 for the port jcarzz, I would try it myself but I'm still learning. We should also try to extract the camara drivers, the way I understand it in CM5/6 we're using a hacky method with backported donut drivers and a few other things. We could really pull a lot from this.
Okay, so I looked a few things up and answered some of my own questions. It does include a new radio 6.35.16.19, but it's not something we can use. Maybe some of the guys who have JTAG equipment can experiment with flashing it. Since it's not a G1 radio we shouldn't get bluetooth working so cross that off the list too. Still a promising release though.

2.2 can get pretty slow at times.
It has been 2 yrs, time for an upgrade.
The G1 has been stretched to its limits, it is now time to put the phone to rest.
I don't think 2.3 is available on AOSP yet. The CM crew won't start working on a gingerbread ROM until that's available and most of the ROMs for the G1 are based on CM.

Why is it so important for you guys to have 2.3...Face it, our G1s are just 2 year old devices. Jebus. Just get the money to buy a new phone, and then you can get gingerbread. So please stop making such pointless threads for a rom that will probably be unstable until 5 months after release.
We've lost all good dev support. The G1 ain't gonna get anything soon *goes back to play with hd2*

You think it is SLOW!? No, not on my G1, if Your using CM6 or CM6.1 then YOU do not have the right settings, my phone was going slow with CM6 UNTIL I did this speed guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8397178&postcount=4048 then it was pretty smooth from what I remember. Since then I changed my ROM to the latest BiffMod and it was AMAZINGLY fast at default settings, I just changed a few settings just like I was suppose just like what it said in the install guide and installed setCPU and it was even faster. Then I changed my radio and SPL to the new ones that enable 15Mb of extra RAM and its EVEN FASTER than before with BiffMod. If you think that your G1 was slow running 2.2 then you either weren't using the right ROM or you didn't have the right settings. And I think I heard something about "Any phone that can run 2.2 can run 2.3 if not better." I forgot where I heard that at but I think it was on these forums.

No, it's by far one of the best SO that my phone has had. Using the settings in my signature i get sometimes 52 Mb free, with the aid of kill memory optimizer in agressive settings my battery also last much longer.
Also if there is a 2.3 for Magic there is going to be for the Dream, since they share the same hardware minus the extra ROM that the Magic has.

1) i dont want 2.3 - i was just wondering why there are no roms. when 2.2 came the whole forum was full of test roms and such. i am VERY confident with my MT3G-Port-2705
2)someone from google said, any phone that runs 2.2 should be able to run 2.3 if not better than they ran on 2.2
3)if the magic has a 2.3 rom the Dream has one , too!? or am i wrong?

3 - Magic has gingerbread port but for 6.35 radio (32A board), that's why Dream can't run it.
I find it funny how people argue over things that are subjective. 'Fast' and 'slow' don't actually mean anything, everyone's perception will be different, based on the other devices they have experience with...

I Had SuperCSDI v4, It flies just like my Froyo and it was my rom for really long time until SuperAtmel came with SuperEclair 8.8. I bet you have never tested one of his roms. Kill memory optimizer is for keeping memory priority on the apps that are on screen, foreground and the not to hungry memory ones on the background, just like donut.
I came from the desire because of the internal storage capacity and battery life but the default rom is the ugliest thing I have seen in my life and for a first time droid owner they might think it is the best thing . the standard rom Isn't 2.2 but even the interface is bad so my question is has anybody flashed a HTC sense hased rom or alike to the mez yet and if so what guide did you use
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
There is no HTC sense rom for the fascinate or mes
Just use launcherpro or adw. I doubt it is even possible to have an actual sense rom because sense is so ingrained in the core android... it probably wouldn't work.

But it could be ported quite easily as they both have the same everything besides radios and displays so I guess its a cook your own rom with the mes displays and radios
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
When I say same everythings I mean same storage and memory mappings even though the mes has 1.5gig rom and less ram than the desire
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Touchwiz is horrible, use Launcher Pro
Like i was saying out of the many Droid phones I have had most recently the desire HTC sense has been the best as I am not interested at all in something that consumes the weak ram on this phone it is highly inadequate and for a newer phone with such large display and shared memory you would think it would have at least double the ram. status Droid reports 2/3rds the resources the last phone had. So I do believe when I get the time I will venture into cooking Droid roms for myself. On a positive note of the mes the screen is awesome keyboard size is better but all of that can be edited in the image mappings of anything

Who's "they?" Considering you said you came from a HTC Desire, are you saying the Desire and Mesmerize have the "same everything?" In which case, you'd be no where close to correct.

Well your Highness, given your highly superior intellect and standards for which these phones must live up to, you'd think you'd be smart enough to check out the specs before you bought one.
Without starting a war as far as Droid is concerned all storeage memory and everything but the chipsets. Are the same most of which are supported internally by Droid with the exception of the radio/wifi and display interfaces. And as for your total useless post to bump, flame or raise your post count. You did nothing to add to the conversation. Lastly not Highness here but the sense roms have been a crowd pleaser and it is no secret that the mez has very little memory to run all the neato Samsung features

just forget it, put it out of your head.
it has been tried and tried and tried on so many other phones.
just forget it, if you want HTC sense you should have stayed with the desire or went with another carrier.

Says who? I came from the Hero which comes stock with Sense and the majority of the ROMs in the Hero community and the most popular ones were not Sense based. Sense is okay, nothing wrong with it, but it is far from anything spectacular.
AFAIK HTC Sense it tied to the hardware in each particular HTC phone. I am just speculating but I think they have some hardware markers in there that simply will not let sense work without it. Without hacking the entire framework AND the hardware you wont get it working..
If it could be done, then Froyo Sense Roms and Sense Apps would be available on EVERY other Android device apart from HTC's by now right here on this very forum. The fact that they aren't should tell you that its not possible or is way too much work to be deemed feasible..
Its as simple as that... oh and for the record, I hated Sense.. it was a bloated framework.. Sure its nice for new users as its easy (hence the point) but I'd take a clean ROM with Launcher Pro and Beautiful Widgets over it ANY day.
The only time I've seen sense on a phone that it didn't come with was when I installed android on the HTC touch and there was a hero rom installed and of course you can imagine it was quite sluggish but I haven't seen any other phones, at least not android native phones that were non HTC phones with a sense rom

Well said v! And I agree that touchwiz isn't great but root the phone and use launcher pro as sage said. There are other launchers out there. I personally use adw launcher. Try those out see what you think they are highly customizable play around and I bet you get a setup you enjoy. Or if you have add like me just change it every other day
Sense is OK, what I think anyone who may have come over to the Mesmerize from the Desire might be missing is the general speed and responsiveness of the stock HTC Sense ROM. It feels a lot faster than the Mesmerize does stock. We have both and the stock FroYo ROM for the Sense is considerably more responsive than the FroYo ROM + Voodoo for the Mez. Hopefully we can see some speed improvements when Sammy and USCC get us a true stock FroYo ROM. Why they did what they did with the filesystem is beyond me, but it's annoying that it saps so much performance from the phone.

Of course it was fast but even the interface. if the desire had more internal storage better battery life i would have stayed with it. as for the battery life a simple flashing to another radio prob would have helped with the battery but as for the internal storage.... so small..
The new FroYo ROM seems to really help with battery life on the Desire. But yeah... The internal memory is what kept me away from it. I won't be buying another Samsung phone, that much is certain.

A simple flash to another radio? Ha. Yeah, I'm sure that would've worked out in a well bricked phone.

Depends on the radio/phone combo that you are trying to use. I've flashed four different radios to my Mesmerize and have not had a problem. I don't recommend it, but it can be done if you know what you are doing.
i am using Motorola Milestone with MIUI ROM, Overclocked to 1.2GHz, 1GB EXT partition and 300MB Swap partition.
i want to know that how can i usee my swap partition as virtual RAM for my mobile. is there any app for that or any tweak. plz tell.
the milestone kernel does not support swap and since the bootloader wont be unlocked, it propably wont work ever. if you want a fast rom, i would recommend the newest cm7 or the froyomod 2.7. miui has a high memory demand, so its not very fast.
Just as papadawgg already said: Miui is a good looking ROM, it isn't build to be fast. If you want a fast ROM I can recommend you 3 different ROM's. Sorted from fastest to slowest:
1. TheFroyoMod by 89luca89: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815595 FroYo
2. CM6 by Milaq: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155454 FroYo
3. CM7 by nadlabak/kabaldan: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941346 Gingerbread
Either leave MIUI and use one of listed by eXtink, or get a new phone. As simple as that
(you can also learn to live with MIUI and all the goodness it brings)
Also Cronos Ginger is a very fast rom. Google for it.
But, the most that i love is iceandfire. It has the features from CM7 (it IS built on CM7 by nadlablak) and almost the speed from FroyoMod.
The fastest ROM is Telus lite but it's very old and it's not gonna be updated.
You can use zeppelinrox's script to make some changes to the memory management.
So, my phone: iceandfire 3.0 + zeppelinrox's memory management script (with 8-26-28-28-30 values) + go launcher (or adw launcher) + 1gb ext partition + interactive governor + 250 (min) to 1000 (max) ghz cpu speed + 42 vsel = supreme milestone.
PS: i tested ALL the roms available for milestone.
Well,if you tested all roms for Milestone, then why on your list is not CM6 by Milaq, which is one of the best rom?For good rom it is not only important that it is fast when you call someone or open menu.Gingerbread roms just not work well on Milestone because of lack of RAM.Large apps, like navigation apps and HD games will be closed because of RAM.CM6 by Milaq is Gingerbread rom on Froyo kernel,so it have enough RAM for large apps and Gingerbread looks and feel with plenty CM7 functions.

Accually... I find the CM Roms even more laggy and unusable then Miui. And I've accually got my Miui running pretty well accually with a nice theme on it.
Try checking out this. It helps A TON. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Miui accually runs pretty fast compared to CM on my Milestone.

cm6 by milaq is a great rom. eXtink already mentioned it in a previous post.
Should i post a movie with my phone running the latest iGO? Or playing a HD game?
No offence...
Could we just keep the development forum for developpers ?
No rush for this thread but I like to give my daily visit to the forum and I keep seeing more and more questions in this forum but no developpers's news
I mean that in the general section this kind of answer would be found don't worry ^^
Cronos 1.4 is very very fast. What do you guys think the best rom for battery life is?
The best ROM for battery life is FroyoMod 2.6.1 or CM6

Whowhooaa! Hold on to your pantyhose there cowboy! Smoking guns is not what we're looking for.
If we're talking about memory friendly ROMs where you can actually multitask, and I mean multitask, not run GMail and MMS app at a time, I mean GMaps and Camcorder at once multitask, then Telus 5.2 is the ROM to have. Even though it is Eclair, it is fast and offers a very good memory management.
Next on the list, but not as good as Eclair from the multitasking standpoint, it's CM6, but it has a major flaw from my POV. The camcorder freezes once in a while while recording in High quality. However, this issue can be solved my modding the media_profiles.xml file to look more like the stock Froyo (here's my post on that http://techmobility.blogspot.com/2011/08/motorola-milestone-how-to-make-best-of.html ). CM6 is smoother than Telus, but not so memory efficient.
But CM7 is at the bottom of the list here for both speed and memory management. It's slow as hell, and you can barely run 2 apps without the homescreen dying on you. Maybe the slowness is caused by the high memory consumption, who knows.
Maybe now that Google bought Motorola, we'll be seeing our bootloader unlocked and we'll be able to properly mod our Stones.

Hey OP,
There are a ton of "roms " posted for the milestone which ate developed by reputable people. The thing is though you're going to have to test out each rom and tweak them to your own phone. For example the latest release by HO!NO! Is possibly the only Tom that acts like my phone is running at 1GHz when its actually clocked at 800MHz. Another thing is I normally scrap the default launcher or launcher pro for GO launcher and the SMS app for GO SMS.
Any way just make a nandroid and try all of them before you decided what seems to work the best for your phone. For a fact no one on this board is going to know your phone as well as you do. Experiment and log what works and doesn't that log will help you later down the line when you finally settle with what you think works best.

IMHO, the best combination of speed and memory(or should I say compromise) is CM6. Eclair doesn't eat up that much RAM, but it's not as snappy as Froyo/GB, Froyo is snappier than Eclair but eats more RAM, and I am sure that GB would shine on a swap enabled kernel, but that's just not the case here.
