Well, it's not really a new ROM, but I haven't tried it until now...
I was always disappointed by the speed, incoming calls lag, and constantly reloading homescreen with sense ROMs. I will give it a try though! Thanks for your video!!
You are right, everyone tells he has the fastest ROM out there but in the end I got tired trying all ROMs - and maybe missed the real fast one...
One question: which sdcard and settings (partition, compcache, swap, etc.) do you use on your 32B running this rom?
Thanks!

That's right. But let's face it - our device IS old and at the end of the day it's just a phone - and as such it's good if it works as supposed (and don't miss calls bcause being too slow...). So we have to live with an old version and won't be able to get all the cool new features without getting a new phone...

actually some of the eclair roms work just as fast as cupcake. it all depends on how much it has been optimized for g1.
check out Super E

On video it looks really smooth, I'm downloading it right now. Let's try this thing out, I don't care if it's Cupcake, because IMO Cupcake Hero > Vanilla Eclair, only con is that many newer apps is not compatible with 1.5. But for me it's not an issue - I use very few and rather old apps, so it's not a problem for me at all . Flashing and giving feedback in few hours.

While I'm definitely not one to dispute the greatness of the Eclair on the g1 (and Froyo on it's big chested sister, the MyTouch) it needs to be understood that we are at an End of Days. Regardless of it's validity, the rumor that Gingerbread will require a 1Ghz isn't terribly far-fetched. And the state of newer Android phones shows that 1Ghz is quickly becoming the baseline, with newer and in production phones going even further. Maybe this Hero rom is out of date for running the newest apps, but hell, our phone is limiting that more than the OS is! So let's do the time warp, enjoy some majik from yesteryear, and be content knowing that we can still do amazing things with our Androids and marvel at what was created when we were still kings. For, someday, we must all retire our phones.
Everyone's waiting.

actually i think one of the main android dev team said 3.0 would work on the g1. its out this year, so not long to wait to find out
and froyo in its current form runs just about acceptably on it, so i think u should give our dear old g1 some credit its still got life in it yet

Yep, I also think that every hardware has its limitations and everything beyond 1.6 is a liitle too much for G1 (however CyanogenMod 6 is something like a miracle, it adds SO MUCH to the system, so much goodies and it runs nearly as good as Donut, one thing to improve is stability). We can port 2.1, 2.2, Hero Eclair and much more, but for what reason? Only to say "yep, it is possible" but not even 10% fast enough?
I'm so happy that even having the oldest Android device I can run almost everything that was realesed for any Android phone and I'm really thankful to all those devs, but sometimes we have to face the truth. If you want usable Sense ROM - it has to be Cupcake Sense.
So far - it's great! It runs very, very smooth! Not only that - it loads apps very quickly. I'm really happy for now. Let's see how's battery life and if it slows down after few hours. HTC improved Android very much with Sense. They've added many features not present in stock Android, and their Cupcake Sense is good enough to beat even vanilla Eclair. IMO ofc.

New Life for Gumbo!

I've been playing with ROMS again. I've sampled most of the 2.1 based stuff and today I installed Gumbo 1.5 Overclocked, thanks to toast's Kernel to 767 mhz.
Instructions are here http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/10138-gumbo-1-5c-overclock.html
This is speedy and very stable! Think I'll stay on this until 2.1 gets official released and the magic gets worked on it.
I could never to go back to 1.5 (running Beezy 4 currently) after having 2.1 on my phone. I have no stability issues or speed concerns with this rom. Actually, that's a lie, I do. The Bluetooth on this sucks big time. Gumbo 1.5C will pair and work flawlessly with my Pioneer Avic D3 car stereo but I have yet to find a 2.1 rom that will. That is still not enough of a bugger to get me to go backwards though.

I was liking the idea of the overclocked 1.5 but what stopped me was no jit support for it. So back to 2.1. You are right though. It is fast. Then again so is 1.6 donut.

Like O..M..G...wipe me with a ROM
I've actually been thinking VERY seriously lately about going back to Gumbo 1.5c. This was the fastest and most stable ROM I ever ran. I simply couldn't resist trying out 2.1, and I got reeled in by it.
I absolutely love the new features that 2.1 brings to the table, but honestly, there are still a lot of bugs. Every 2.1 ROM I've run starts out pretty good, but after a few days, they all seem to slow down a lot. I have even run some overclocked 2.1 ROMs, and I still feel they are too slow for comfortable use.
I firmly believe that the Sprint 2.1 RUU leak is nowhere near final code. It's just way too slow to being anything that Sprint would be ready to put on tens of thousands of customer's phones. I think when we see the final Sprint release, there will most likely be a drastic uptick in speeds.

Thank you. This is my opinion exactly. What the DEVS have shown us with the work done on the 2.1 ROMS is just how awesome they will be once we get the official 2.1 release and the Kernel Source.
I may nandroid back to 1.5c this weekend and check it out.

Seriously? DONT encourage him.
I gave this a try with a pancake 0.1(based on gumbo 1.5c) i had. I have really been impressed. I have ran almost every 2.1 rom we have, darchdroid, damagecontrol, fresh, aloysius, fresh toast, ic3rom, sushi, and a few more im sure. I've been very impressed with the developers work, and I know they are working with an unofficial RUU. I share the opinion of an above poster, than I handle 2.1 for a few days, I love the new features, and it excites me when a new rom comes out, to see what new things the devs have incorporated, but i will probably stay with 1.5 until we get the source code/official update.
With that being said, this overclock patch on pancake 0.1 has been rock stable for me for 3 days now. Just today i flashed to the 1.5c overclock with BFS, and have been running it for about 12 hours, a bit faster. Absolutely no problems yet.
I couldn't be happier!
thanx guys. im glad everyones enjoying OC and BFS. good to see it reviving more then just the .27 eclair builds.
the only thing I couldn't give up is google nav
i thought about going back too, but these devs have spoiled me, i do still have the audio issues with almost all the leak roms even after the audio fix, i guess i just have that lucky phone
Sometimes old and busted is ok huh?

[Q] Planning a ROM change - need advice

Hi,
I am currently running CM6-RC3 on my G1. I am fed up with the slowness of the phone and I want to go to a fast OS, though I am spoilt rotten by some of the Froyo features. However, I think a fast ROM is still my prio.
First step is to get a Class 6 card and I have ordered an 8gig one from ebay. Should get that in a couple of days.
The second step of course is the ROM itself. Currently I have shortlisted SuperD 1.11 and SuperFroyo 2.6 Lite based on the reviews that I have read on the forum.
Firstly, if anyone has used these two ROMs, or can give me a comparative opinion of these two, then it would make my choice all the more easy. Is the SuperD really that that fast as compared to SuperFroyo that I should willingly sacrifice some Froyo functionality?
Also, how do I flash either of the ROMs? As I said, I have CM6 and AmonRa 1.7.0 Recovery. Now SuperD goes on about installing a legal base ROM and DRC83 (which itself has some new and updated versions in many threads) and then installing SuperD 1.11 itself. But coming from CM, is that necessary, or is it dangerous, or in short what am I supposed to do?
Similarly, if I have to flash SuperFroyo, should I do any preparations or just wipe and flash from the recovery?
The tough thing is that CM is so so so well documented that the other ROMs seem stark compared to that. I already have bricked a phone during the JF ROM era, so I don't want to screw up the one which is currently working. Any sort of detailed help, or pointers to other thread would be most helpful. I have been searching the forum and have not found anything that clarifies my doubts.
TIA.
I'm interested in the answers to your questions too. I've tried to improve speed and responsiveness by using many of the tricks posted in various threads but for daily usage the lags and the battery life are still not acceptable for me (though I like many of the Froyo features).
Having said that - you might want to check out the last pages of this thread [FAST][STABLE]SpeedTeam Froyo [v3.1.1][OFFICIAL RELEASE][8/23/10]
XxKOLOHExX is developing a 1.6-ROM with as many Froyo-Features as possible while retaining the speed, responsivness and stability of Donut. I'm very much looking forward to that ROM.

the final cyanogenmod v6 is really fast and stable. ive been running it since it was uploaded and havent had any problem at all.. kinda weird lol im used to some kind of force close or reboots but so far this rom seems really stable, you should try it out.
You might want to figure out why cm6 is so slow for you. Its probably the user, not the rom. I'm not a cyan groupie but this is by far the fastest rom I've used...and I've tried A LOT of different roms.

Really?, and you using it on a G1? CM5 was quite fast until ADW crashed on me and I had to reflash - decided to flash CM6 at that time. What are your SD partitions, if any? I am running it plain with only one large FAT32 partition.
I am a heavy texter. On Hero ROMs, it takes about 500-600 text's to start FC's and loading screens. On Froyo, I don't know how, but it took 200-300...Im on Super E right now and I can say I'm pleased. I'm at 1,902 Texts right now and its running ill say 90% of how fast it was when I just flashed it.

Everyone has their personal preference with regard to swap or no swap, compcache, jit, etc. I have no clue what works best even on my own phone (mt3g). But to let you know, I have a 32 MB swap partition, 512 ext 3 or 4 (can't remember, I think its ext4) and the rest FAT32.
donut/1.6? super d
eclair/2.1? super e
froyo/2.2? super f (not completed yet)
theyre all based off CM

I felt the same way. I've went back to CM4 and CM5 trying to find the right balance. I am now back on CM6 latest and I think I may have found the key to making my phone perform well.
Swap. On a G1 with Froyo it seems that swap is a must. Once I enabled swap my market issues (would return to home at random, especially when searching) and other weird issues went away (shortcuts to URLs wouldn't open he URL but just my homepage). Try swap before you completely bail out of CM6. Even running swap on FAT showed a lot of improvement. I have noticed though that after a couple of days my phone starts acting funny so I turn swap off (swapoff command from terminal) and then back on and things clear up.
Of course this is all my common observation but I really think swap changed CM6 on my G1 from too slow for everyday use to the best ROM there is. I really think with the extra RAM needed for Froyo there just isn't enough left for simple apps (market, browser, etc) to function correctly.
Matt
Super D 1.11 (aka 1.10.4) is quality and I'm so happily suprised at how fast it is
I had forgotten what it was like to own a phone that just well worked without hassle of lose of functionality. As pretty as Eclair and Froyo are they simply can't match a good donut.
Give it a try and use the Setup Up Guide for Donut in my sig a look, it was designed around Super D

i just went to Super-E cause all of the froyos are too slow for my taste and all seem to be based on CM6 so what's the point? Plus one of my fav devs, Ben isnt working on SuperF atm so im kind of sad about that. His was my fav but its discontinued . The battery on it is good and speed, not as quick on its feet as donut but gets the job done, plus still has some newer features.

Think they're about the same. The MTTest3 is good but I prefer CM6.1 for all the extra goodies that come it it. CMParts etc.
Okey, I will try CM6.1.
I don't think android 2.3 will run fast as 2.2:
2.2 is a port of official froyo from mytouch3G, so it's very optimized.
I hope in android 2.3 on G1, I would try to develop something to port 2.3 but I don't know how can I do.. I think by the official sdk but.. mmh
(I'm a programmer but I never developed roms for phones)
Cyanogen said on Twitter that he currently has no plan to port 2.3, as the OS will most likely be GPU-driven.
Honestly, his 6.1.0 release is pretty great.

I think we must try to port android 2.3 to our g1!
BTW if 2.3 is too slow for our phones, I'll stay on 2.2, no problems!
I'm waiting for a perfect phone:
slide qwerty
800x480px amoled/superAmoled/superLCD
ram>512
rom>1gb
slot SDXC rolleyes: )
cpu>1ghz (and good performance.. the number isn't sufficient )
possible cpu with dual core
excellent gpu
5mpx camera with flash and 720p 60fps recording (also 1080p 30fps would be perfect ) with good optic and NO HTC PINK HALO
google experience or sense
I ask too much?
Do you think I'll keep G1 for the rest of my life?
It can probably be adapted from the AOSP source, but since it has some new gui thingy w/e that is, it will never be the same on our devices, whats the point in downgrading from something that works quite well atm, 2.2.1

Well, for me there's one big reason why I'd like to upgrade to 2.3 - Native SIP.
What I don't understand is why Native SIP hasn't been built-in from 1.0! Now there's a flood of poor and mediocre SIP apps on the market, none of which are very good.
I sure hope 2.3 comes to the G1!

Having just switched from MT3G-test3 to Cyanogen 6.1, I would have to say they're pretty comparable. If you put my feet to the fire, I'd say MT3g-test3 is slightly faster, especially in regards to installing apps from the market. But the goodies available in Cyanogen are so good that...
Aargh, it's hard to decide. I have a nandroid+ext of both, so I can swap back and forth at will. I might spend a few days with each to see which one I enjoy using more, and report back. One thing making it harder... I have a white G1, which historically has had problems with Cyanogen. But the latest seems to be working a lot better than previous releases.

One thing making it harder... I have a white G1, which historically has had problems with Cyanogen. But the latest seems to be working a lot better than previous releases.

i think its not slow. just battery is tortured... btw my battery is swelling at the moment ^^ should buy a new one
2.2 can get pretty slow at times.
It has been 2 yrs, time for an upgrade.
The G1 has been stretched to its limits, it is now time to put the phone to rest.
I don't think 2.3 is available on AOSP yet. The CM crew won't start working on a gingerbread ROM until that's available and most of the ROMs for the G1 are based on CM.

think so too, but shall we buy sth now (desire hd/nexus s) or wait a tiny bit for the dual core phones (lg star and other unannounced ones)
Why is it so important for you guys to have 2.3...Face it, our G1s are just 2 year old devices. Jebus. Just get the money to buy a new phone, and then you can get gingerbread. So please stop making such pointless threads for a rom that will probably be unstable until 5 months after release.
We've lost all good dev support. The G1 ain't gonna get anything soon *goes back to play with hd2*
I'll post one just for you guys... gimme a few minutes
FYI its going to be a 2708 kernel since thats what I use atm
1) i dont want 2.3 - i was just wondering why there are no roms. when 2.2 came the whole forum was full of test roms and such. i am VERY confident with my MT3G-Port-2705
2)someone from google said, any phone that runs 2.2 should be able to run 2.3 if not better than they ran on 2.2
3)if the magic has a 2.3 rom the Dream has one , too!? or am i wrong?

You think it is SLOW!? No, not on my G1, if Your using CM6 or CM6.1 then YOU do not have the right settings, my phone was going slow with CM6 UNTIL I did this speed guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8397178&postcount=4048 then it was pretty smooth from what I remember. Since then I changed my ROM to the latest BiffMod and it was AMAZINGLY fast at default settings, I just changed a few settings just like I was suppose just like what it said in the install guide and installed setCPU and it was even faster. Then I changed my radio and SPL to the new ones that enable 15Mb of extra RAM and its EVEN FASTER than before with BiffMod. If you think that your G1 was slow running 2.2 then you either weren't using the right ROM or you didn't have the right settings. And I think I heard something about "Any phone that can run 2.2 can run 2.3 if not better." I forgot where I heard that at but I think it was on these forums.
Dude just wait a day or ummm two xD it will be out not by me xD but im running it and he's an awesome dev ^^
I just posted one

LOL, thats the way I felt, until
1) I used 2.2 on my Liquid e
2) I went back and flashed donut on my dream
2.2 is SLOW on the g1 in comparison with how android should feel

No, it's by far one of the best SO that my phone has had. Using the settings in my signature i get sometimes 52 Mb free, with the aid of kill memory optimizer in agressive settings my battery also last much longer.
Also if there is a 2.3 for Magic there is going to be for the Dream, since they share the same hardware minus the extra ROM that the Magic has.

3 - Magic has gingerbread port but for 6.35 radio (32A board), that's why Dream can't run it.
I find it funny how people argue over things that are subjective. 'Fast' and 'slow' don't actually mean anything, everyone's perception will be different, based on the other devices they have experience with...

I Had SuperCSDI v4, It flies just like my Froyo and it was my rom for really long time until SuperAtmel came with SuperEclair 8.8. I bet you have never tested one of his roms. Kill memory optimizer is for keeping memory priority on the apps that are on screen, foreground and the not to hungry memory ones on the background, just like donut.

Thinking about getting this phone, but dev section seems dead why?

I was thinking about selling my Vibrant and buying a G2x, but the dev section seems to be pretty dead. Any reason why wasnt this CMs personal phone at one time?
I think part of it is LG's quick memory regarding it. Quick as in quick to forget it, and Nvidia won't release driver source so devs are forced to reuse the 2.3.3 release in order to get 100% functionality.

Some devs don't post updates on xda. Some of them give updatea via twitter or other sites. But it's not dead.
Sent from my Calculator with Android.
Does anyone know if they will ever release new drivers? So basically until they do which is most likely never this phone has been as updated as possible? I noticed CM7 is still updating which means 2.3.6 so is there much chance of ICS? Finally who are some good people to follow on twitter for good roms? Thanks a ton guys!
due to overall problems
I believe there were many more developers that planned on developing for the g2x and bought the device to do so as i did.
But with so may problems at the start i just didnt want to even attempt to rom for this device and be blamed when the phone self destructed. after much tampering it is running pretty well but i just dont trust the phone and im sure there are some others that didnt work on the G2X for the same reason. There are some very good options out there and talented people that are working on the G2x. so dont be afraid due to low quanity because there is some high quality work done.
Not sure it will grow much since its been obvious that tmobile and lg's fix for the phone is to shutup until it goes away. But the roms have the phone running pretty well and you wont be disapointed, But i would wait until oct 12th and get the hercules(even without the samsung chip) will be a killer phone or the HTC coming out the same day with similar specs.
This phone works fabulously with CyanogenMod, EXCEPT that bluetooth audio (to a wireless headset or whatever) doesn't work.
Other than that, EVEYRYTHING works. Love this phone.
Well that's disappointing to hear that I probably will never see ICS running on this device. It's a very capable device and the fact that LG refuses to update makes me want to put them in the same category as Viewsonic (unfortunately I also bought the g-tablet).

will be the best hope to get icecream running. if they do so than other rommers will also follow suite. but cm leads the way on drivers and such for most roms. so if they dont do it ussually noone does. But i wouldnt expect to see anything from LG, they have not shown anything in the way of skill or care to put out updates for their devices.
Because there ate stable ROMs out there and you can only do so much. Other lively dev sections ate deceiving - 20 variations of the stock ROM with different wallpapers and start up screens does not mean a lot of development for the phone.

I've been running cm7 for about a month now and I'm really happy with it. Every other rom I try have issues and I always come back to cm7. It makes the g2x a very good phone IMO
There are plenty of devs to follow just some took some time off to dev for other devices ... I follow fitsnugly because he does some great compiling with his roms ... Morfic has some awesome kernals and faux123 has his aosp rom and awesome kernals... doniqq has his eaglesblood roms ... whitehawkx has weapon rom... so there's plenty ... I'm a crackflasher so I'm always running something different .... I felt the same way ..Was thinking of jumping ship to a different phone but I just live this phone... Just look around the forum.. there's always somthing ...
One of the basic things I had to decide on was whether I wanted the LG camera app with an OTA based rom or all the fancy-ness of a CM7 based rom. Now I'm at the point where I just group OTA or CM7 and go from there.

I know what you mean... I use my camera often... Work and personal use and at one point was running cm7 and was comparing the different can apps from the market ... My wife thought I was going nuts , I was sitting in my living room taking pics for like an hour and a half and comparing pics... There are some pretty good free camera apps that I've used with cm7.. vignette is pretty good...

Yup. Work and personal for me too. I tried a few market apps but I just couldn't find something that I was happy with. It was kind of a deal breaker for me considering I really wanted to stick to CM7 for the ridiculous theme/customization options out there.
Swift Star is out, another new ROM. Several out there to try. I prefer those based on 2.3.3 OTA

I was running this rom up until 5 minutes ago... I just reflashed fitsnuglys 9/27 kang... Dont get me wrong the 2.3.3 roms are great... There's just something about the cm7 and the kangs that I like... There's always something new added to them and for me they seem to make my phone run better ... Sure there's no LG camera but there's plenty of camera market apps..
Yeah, I see updates for ROMs pretty often, every 5-10days, that's a good release period, and if you want to use a ROM that is constantly being developed just run CM7, a lot of people say it's not good with battery but if you flash one of morfics kernels you will have great battery life. Some people run into issues with it but if you wipe everything you should be fine. Faux's AOSP Rom+Kernel run great together also.
While development might have slowed down a bit for this phone, there's still plenty of excellent devs and roms to choose from. I have always preferred faux's aosp rom/kernel combo for my daily stable/very reliable/great performing/battery life.
Now if you want to see no development look no further then the mytouch4g slide thread. That's just sad cuz even the og mt4g has tons of devs working on it and its still a great phone.
