[Q] Dual Message indicator - Hero CDMA Android Development

I've somehow gotten two message indicators that both pop up when I get a text.
It has stayed through fresh, aloysius, and it's now on CM6 RC1.
I think it originated when I flashed ZenHero, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
When I pulldown the taskbar and click the white icon, it takes me to my messages, but stays in my notifications bar.
When I click the message icon (smiley face folder), it opens my message and then goes away.
But the white envelope still stays.
I just want to know how to get that damn white one to never come up again.
I've included some screenies.
PLEASE help me!
I'm going nuts hearing 2 message alerts every time i get a text!

r u using a third party app like handcent or chomp SMS. If so u have to turn off the notification in the stock app.
if not look in the stock app settings and c how the reports r comming in.

im using the stock app.
if i turn off the indicator from there, i only get the white one.
it must've been something i flashed.

1. Wrong forum
2. If it's not Handcent or ChompSMS, have you installed SMS Popup?

1. Sorry
2. I think I did WAAAAY back.
Any way to undo what i did?
At one short moment, I had handcent. Hated it.
But I think I flashed a new rom without deleting sms popup.
It's no longer installed now.
Possible for the settings to have stuck?

ok. tried reinstalling sms popup and then uninstalling.
no avail.

Use titanium backup to uninstall sms pop-up for good
Sent from my HTC Hero running froyo: take that, Sprint!

Hit Menu->Settings->Applications now look for any 3rd party sms app and uninstall if you find any. Otherwise try going to your messaging app and clearing all the data and caches. My last option would be to reboot into recovery and fix apk uid mismatches. Not quite sure what the last one does in technical terms but in the past minor quirkes have been fixed by doing that. One thing is for sure though that you have two separate apps receiving incoming msges, if both lead to the default messaging app try disabling notifications in your default messaging app and see if you still get one notification. Just some ideas.

You must have the stock Android SMS app and the HTC SMS app. you need to disable one of them.

Which SMS app is which?
I want to disable the white icon one.

The stock android sms is the black smily face.

and how do i go about disabling one of them?
I've tried looking around the phone with adb shell to no avail (not that I really know what I'm looking for anyways!).
I know my way around pretty well, but some help would be GREATLY appreciated.
TiBackup was no help. Didn't see any remnants of SMS popup laying around. Do I do anything special?
Next step is trying the apk mismatches.
thanks so far for all the suggestions

I found it.
It was beautiful SMS from the bw pack 2.
i used the "dev tools" app in CM6 to see running processes.
had a text sent to me, and saw what was new that popped into the list.
wasn't even running, yet it made that icon pop-up.
Thanks for all of the advice guys.
You're the best.

[ Apps ] AOSP e-Mail & Messaging(Fixes the MMS resizing issue)

For those that want the AOSP versions, here they are.
Benefits
Combined inbox for e-mails
Customizable ringtones for e-mails
Support for multiple exchange accounts
If you use HTC_IME mod and set the setting, hitting enter will send SMS
Overall seem a little snappier than HTC versions(IMO)
Known Issues
There are no notification(counter) bubbles on the icons using Sense
HTC e-Mail widget doesn't work
Exchange calendar is not imported into the stock calendar app/widget(seperate calendar app included for that)
HTC Lockscreen doesn't display new message
Share to messaging option in Album doesn't work, you have to Compose a MMS & attach image
And I imagine a couple of other minor issues I haven't come across
Also I skinned the icons to match HTC's

Awesome! I'm not sure but I think I like HTC's messaging better. What are your impressions Calk?
I find the AOSP SMS version faster than the HTC one, plus I use landscape almost everytime I type, so not having to minimize the keyboard is a BIG plus. As for e-Mail, the HTC version has this bug that if I delete messages from the inbox through the computer, it never deletes on the phone, so I have to manually delete them and the AOSP version doesn't have that annoying bug. Plus it has a combined inbox, so it's easier to see all your new e-mails at once
I removed the SMS version since it has some MMS issues, so once I fix it, I'll put it back
I used the version I had on my HERO once I got my EVO, I like it more than HTC EMail app because of the unified Inbox, the multiple email selection and deletion. It just works quicker I think too. I use the HTC Activesync side only to pull me Calendar and Contacts not for email anymore.
I was finally able to fix the AOSP messaging app to send MMS's and it also fixed the resizing issue
Installation
How do you install these?
yeah. how do you install this, does it have to be rooted?
Apparently, these are flashable .ZIPs. Going to try out the AOSP MMS apk right now. I'll repost the APK for Caulkin, for those of us that are more comfortable strictly pushing our APK's over ADB.
Actually, that doesn't work. Getting this wonderful, familiar error:
So do you have to flash them then? Like boot into recovery and choose flash from zip, then choose the email.zip or whatever?
Flash them from a custom recovery console like you would a ROM

Definitely NAND unlocked. I even moved the HTC Mms.apk to Mms.apk.old and then tried to install, didn't give.
Any ideas?
First off, I know Im in the EVO forums, I thought the OP might be able to answer this.
I am currently running android version 2.2.1 on my Thunderbolt, and was curious if these would work properly. I would love to have AOSP email/mms and already have AOSP contacts and browser running great.
I didn't see in the OP what version or ROM this is designed for and since the EVO and Tbolt are similar I thought I would ask first.
Thanks in advance

Droid X Messaging App

Can we get this ported to the EVO?
Just the .apk would work, right? the DX's sms app looks so much better than any i've seen on any other phone. I'd love to have it.
give me some love, guys
+1 on this, but if im not mistaken this should go in the apps section
PM a Mod and ask them to move this to theming it'll get more attention there
+1 I can't stand the Sense mms app. Actually, I thought IncredibleDoes was developing a Droid X rom for the EVO and Incredible...
well it's been moved and other people are in agreeance, but it seems XDA isn't ever too keen to help someone out
I would like to see this as well since Handcent does not work well anymore on the EVO, its very very slow n it lags.

First of all, XDA doesn't do anything. That is simply the forum. It's the developers, many of them with jobs, kids and other responsibilities, that give up their time to help you. So at ease.
Secondly, if you had taken the time to do some googling, instead of posting a new whine every couple hours, you MIGHT have found: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/15/download-new-mms-apk-with-custom-settings/
EDIT1: Also, with a little more digging, i found the original APK from the droid x. http://rapidshare.com/files/431493880/Mms.zip
Anyone using this also getting fc when trying to change the font size ?
I was looking for this this morning. Well either this or the Vibrant/Galaxy S one. They're both similar. The Sense mms.apk is actually really good, it's just super slow.
For now I'm using Handcent with squared off chat bubbles and the Hero theme:

Are u experiencing any lag with handcent?? Like when the message is received it takes like 5-10 seconds longer till the phone notifys me even tho im viewing the message thro the quick reply screen.
Everything seems normal. But there are some things you have to change. In send settings, you have to tell it to split messages or ones longer than one text wont go through. Set it to "split by word" for the best results.
Also, disable the lockscreen popup if you have the stock sense loclscreen since it wont work and will wakelock your phone. And lastly, disable the lockscreen from turning on your screen so it doesn't turn on in your pocket.

I think i may have figured out part of the problem but not the whole problem. I had Blur background checked off which slows down pop up performance, so that might fix some of it hopefully.

Custom ROM with fully ROOTED rights

Hi everyone,
I came from Galaxy 3 and used SGS also and they both are good phones but not water proof So I change it to Defy but I miss some features which I got in SG3.
So I am mentioning some things which, if possible can be modded than the Defy Super Rocks.
First I badly need to have a clean build .sbf so that we can easily direct flash it through RSD
ROM with fully ROOTED rights. (because its very annoying to root using SuperOneClick)
Icons in notification are like I did in my Samsung Galaxy 3 or Galaxy S, as its really very handy to On/OFF the GPS, Blutooth and other.
1% battery icon. (not in my SG3 but want it in Defy)
Clean ROM only with these STOCK applications please
[STOCK] contacts, message, Music Player, Time, Gallery, Camera Camcoder, alarm & timer, Dialer, google search, Manage Sim Card, Market, Youtube, Phone portal.
[Add on] Super User, Defy Recovery, Root explorer, Skyfire Browser, Barcode scanner, SetCPU

With Zeam Launcher because its free and fast too.
Its really very useful if any of you people make this ROM.

Are the switchers in the pull down menu a feature of Zeam or some app we could use with other launchers?
They are Samsung framework related stuff. CM7 does it too.
Chances are Samsung releases a water resistant phone before this is ported to Defy.
Ha ha haaaa
Widgetsoid should be able to do what you want with the switches in the notification area.
And, for the battery, you can use the following:
Circle Battery Widget
DefyBatt
MotoCharge

I love this feature on Samsung phones. Sure Widgetsoid does the trick pretty well, but this is even more comfortable and frees up some more space in your homescreens. I haven't found anything that is capable of it so far though.

[Q] The Circles Widget

Just got my LE RAZR HD MAXX. I like the Circle Widget. I use handcent for my text messaging. The notification that pops up in the clock for a new message still opens the stock messaging app. Is there a way to set it to open up in Handcent instead?

I think I read that if you disable the stock messaging app, the 3rd party messaging app will replace the stock app in the lock screen. Maybe it will work for the circles widget too.
^^ That's true. You could also just disable the texts from appearing in the clock widget if you cant figure it out.

I turned off the notifications and such for the stock app. Handcent does appear on the lock screen now. Can I actually go through the settings-> apps-> ALL menu and actually DISABLE it? I wasn't sure if that would effect Handcent or not.

Hey guys, sorry for the thread resurrection, but I really couldn't find a good answer for this. Just picked up a Droid Razr Maxx HD and I've been trying to disable the stock messaging app. Unfortunately, the 'Disable' button is greyed-out, even after force-stopping the app. Is there something else that needs to be done, or can you not disable it completely in JB? I currently have all notifications turned off and using Handcent in lieu-of the stock app, but like others I want Handcent to appear on the lockscreen and in the Circles widget.
Any help is appreciated!

Yeah, like I mentioned above, I did try to disable this app. BUT on the App info screen for Text Messaging, the 'Disable' button is greyed-out - I cannot press this button. I can force-stop the app, but this does not allow me to press the 'Disable' button.
Any other suggestions?

[Q] WhatsApp/Messenger Notifications - Android 5.0.1

Hi, I just upgraded to Android 5.0.1 , and i noticed something different with my notifications.
Instead of just appearing at the top black bar, all my notifications started appearing with a large white background drop down from the top. (See the screenshot).

This happens on both WhatsApp and Android Messenger App.
I changed it to Priority Interruption, but it also continued to appear.
Am i able to disable this, or revert to the old way of notification??
It seems like whoever is using my phone can now see all my messages as they come in.
Thanks!

Becouse android 5.0 has new API ,it same facebook and facebook messenger, they have new notifications same it .I dont know how can close in apps . OS settings sound&notification you can find maybe or wait apps update...
Try that: Go to settings>Apps>tap on whatsapp and if there is a checkbox with "heads up", disable it.
I don't know if that works on stock but all custom roms I've tried so far had it
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
With Android 5.0 Lollipop (and buried in 4.4 source code), Google introduced Heads Up notifications (what you're seeing), mainly for important notifications such as calls, emails and texts. There is a flag an app can add to a notification so it pops up with a Heads Up notification instead of only appearing in your status bar. WhatsApp and Messenger simply have the flag appended to the notifications because they assume your messages are important.
If a ROM has Slim's take on Heads Up merged in, one can force enable/disable Heads Up for specific apps instead of allowing the app developer to choose if they're important enough, which is why @bm19981217 has that option.
@Lethargy Oh ok...
But why do Lollipop roms have that feature? I'm quite sure some Lollipop roms I tried have that checkbox but I might be wrong
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Hmmm.. but im using stock rom... 5.01 OTA update (sideloaded though).
I went to android settings --> Apps --> Whatsapp
but i didnt see any "heads up" check box. I only see "Show notifications".
Doesnt seem to be that option.
Can i download/install Slim's take on heads up separately? Is there such an app?
If not, i guess i can only wait for whatsapp to release an update.
Lots of people, me included, don't like this heads up feature without some kind of control. See below.
