Since the initial release on Aug 2010 as the first one click instant access app and its super unique always available design , Smart Taskbar has became the origin of several similar one click instant access app in Android Market today. Today, after more than 6 month of beta testing, I am proud to announce that Smart Taskbar is finally going to V1.0.0 stage. V1.0.0 is more stable, faster, more feature packed and also more visually appealing than its previous - beta testing product.
Smart Taskbar is a - super launcher, task switcher, an app organizer, shortcut manager, and widget viewer that you can quickly call up on any window by swipe the edge of screen or by clicking a transparent trigger icon on screen. In most cases, you can complete app launching in 2 finger clicks (1st swipe, and 2nd click on app icon to launch). Possibly the fastest way to quickly launch or switch between applications.
If you want to use your phone one handed with complete touch screen experience, you find Android takes too many steps to complete one simple job, or you want to get a faster way to get things organized, get Smart Taskbar to make your like easier.
Smart Taskbar comes with following features
(1) 5 speedy launch spots for 2 steps quick launch
(2) App organizer function built in
(3) Task switch
(4) super speedy launcher
(5) Software home button (To prevent H/W home button from tear and wear)
(6) True multitask experience!
(7) Able to build your own custom action to launch
Reason why to use Smart Taskbar:
(1) Free up your home screen for more widgets instead of app shortcuts
(2) A better way to organize app in to groups
(3) Need a super fast way to launch your app
(4) Missing the multi tasking in Palm Pre
(5) Don't want to press hardware button too frequently

great app
thanks for posting this good app, it is so greate and useful that i use it every time when i use my phone.
i like the quick luanch function most, hereever i am, it is easy and quick to switch to another app.
also i can organized all my apps by different lables. then i can catch it easily by related lable.
of cource it goes smooth on my phone and till now, i have not found any defect to remove it.
my pleasure to share it with everyone.
Nice app. Uses a good amount of cpu tho and the visuals could use a bit of polish but definitely effective. Looking forward to see it develop.
Hi,
CPU usage if Smart taskbar should be no different than regualr Android app. You are seeing high CPU occupation because you do a lot of scroll in app list. Try yourself and scroll grid list in other app such as gallery and you will see similar CPU usage.
Since getting my Legend over 4 months ago I've been looking for something like this.
This seems to fit the bill, I will be sure to check it out! Just hope the CPU related comments are as per the OP's response ^.
EDIT: Oops, not what I thought it was. I thought this would 'pin' certain apps to the notification area for quick access.
Yes, you are correct the scrolling taxes cpu on any app so that is fair enough. I would like to see widgets integrated somehow similar to the way power strip does and I would use this exclusively for sure.
I am really happy with the app. Works great and has let me clan up my home screen. Much better then I thought it would be.

It is truly a personal preference question. But notification doesn't show up in full screen app. In this case, u can't access to quick launcher. In addition, u need to (1) expand notification bar, (2) click on notification item, (3) click on the item u wish to launch. It is 3 steps. Anyway, just like i said, it is pure personal preference question. Hope you can find it useful eventually.
Wow, works great and is just great!! This is definitly a Must-have app!
I was hoping to give this app a try, but the developer decided to pull it of most non english markets see http://kiumiu.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/closing-most-non-english-user-on-market/
Can anyone give me an apk so I can give it a try?
tia
Looks like it would work great - but DOES NOT scale, if you've changed your LCD density. The click button to slide it out shows in the middle of the screen!
If the scaling issue gets resolved, it would be fantastic. In the meantime, it's very difficult to use it if you've changed the LCD density.
EDIT: Found it using an american ID on market-enabler, looks like its still in some of the english ones.

That's what I was hoping for too...
I like this overall, but I do think it has a few weaknesses.
First, app scrolling is very slow, I'm used to fast scrolling in my device whether it's LauncherPro or Touchwiz. I'd be willing to deal with cached icons or anything else for a short term fix. (Korean Galaxy S, SHW-m110s)
Second, while in the app I can't use my home button, which means, if I want to use home button to get home I can't. It also means I lose access to QuickDesk while in your app.
Overall, I'd recommend this, especially to those who don't use something like QD. Still, this has a more complete experience than QD so that's a definite plus over it, but QD has a real speed advantage as well as it's where I put power control widget for it's easy access within apps. I could see using this heavily with faster speed, even still due it's customizations that I haven't yet utlized it's probably better than I've already stated. Thanks for the good work, Dev, looking forward to more!
Strange, but I stuck on how to use screen...
Can get to the settings screen.

Same here. I can hit the 'open' button, but if I press the settings icon...it goes to the 'how to use' screen with the blue hand on it. The only thing I can do from there is open the dock...which works...but I would really like to access the settings menu. I am keeping the .apk, but have uninstalled as of now for failure to access settings.

I initially had the same problem. I think you have to click "dismiss", then after that, access settings from within the main screen of the app (it might've been from hitting the menu button, but I don't think that was my method, though they probably do the same). There are only 2 settings in the "settings" menu though. Other settings/customizations will be found within the app itself, such as pinning most common favorite apps to your easy to launch area.
I'll edit if the developer corrects me on anything, I only played around with it for about 15 minutes.
Like I said, I basically like the app, however, I encountered a big problem with it in the past 12 hours since my original post. My "Android OS" usage shot through the roof when I was asleep. I'm a guy who, at least when at home and definitely when asleep, doesn't use 3G, so I leave it off. Also, I don't use sync, so my Android OS is typically very low 2-4% and I get insane standby time in my Galaxy S, 1-2% drain in a typical night. Last night, I probably drained at least 30% but I think closer to 40%. Something is going on with the app that doesn't let my phone stay in standby mode.
Then this morning, I was very tired, so perhaps I slept through my smart alarm (it's somewhat quiet, though not very, and it'd only be the 2nd time and the first time the speaker was blocked). I was surprised when I was woken up by a backup alarm on my phone, so most functionality definitely remained. But then, 15 minutes later, my last resort alarm didn't go off, and I was monitoring the phone a bit to make sure it would. Right after it was supposed to another (very stable app, not to be named) force closed for maybe the 2nd time in it's life on me (no update in at least a week). Right after that, my power button wouldn't function to turn my screen off, it still brought up options to do things like Airplane mode, power off, etc, but touch to turn screen off doesn't work (and I leave my timer off).
I think updated I'll really like this app, plenty of potential here, but I have to uninstall. Thanks though.
Battery life issues (less phone sleep/standby)
Seemed to cause conflict with another app, but it could've been coincidence
Slow app scrolling

Hi,
I am developing on Galaxy too. Your phone lock up issue is basically caused by smart Alarm. when it happens, Smart Alarm doesn't make any sound, CPU usage of Smart alarm goes to 60-80%. At same time, my phone gets so hot like 40-50 'c. I am very sure this will happen to you even after uninstalling Smart Taskbar. Not using Smart Alarm is the only way to solve it. I am not sure is it fixed in later firmware release. In addition, my app doesn't use any wake lock. Therefore it doesn't block your phone from going to standby.
For battery life issue, I have used SystemPanel to monitor one week CPU time usage of my app, basically it uses less than 0.1% overall. Therefore, should have very very small battery drain.
For slow scroll, I do use cached app list. Launcher Pro is simply too great. Nothing can compare to its super smooth scrolling so far. But I think my app performs on par with standard launcher
By the way, are u using Galaxy S or the old 7500 Galaxy?

Hello,
I am not sure is it a bug but plz make sure you click the dismiss button. I think a reboot can solve it if pressing dismiss can't fix it.

Hello & Namaste _/|\_ to All,
I have tried to compile battery saving tips/tricks for Samsung infuse through Internet/forums. These settings have been taken from Samsung Infuse 4G running Gingerbread 2.3.6 UCLB3. I am sure all will find it somehow useful.
****************************************
1. Use the Gingerbread based ROM/Kernel.
(Please update your phone firmware through Samsung Kies or flash through Odin etc. Gingerbread 2.3.5 and above have better battery performance). Also keep your phone apps up to date.
****************************************
2. Check the phone what is using the largest percentage of battery power.
Settings> About phone> Battery use
****************************************
3. Turn Off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Screen Rotation, Mobile Data etc. (Turn them on only on requirement).
You can turn off Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth, GPS, Screen Rotation through the Notification bar. (If they have green color it means they are on) If you also want to block GSM signal then turn on Airplane mode (you will unable to make & receive voice calls/SMS in this mode).
To turn off Mobile Data
Settings>Wireless and network>Mobile networks>Uncheck "Use packet data".
****************************************
4. Turn off Vibration, extra sounds, animation and enable Power saving mode
Settings>Sound>Vibrate>Never
Settings>Sound>Volume> Lower the volume of Incoming call, media, system and notification.
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Audible selection"
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Screen lock sounds"
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Haptic feedback"
Turn off Animation
Settings>Display>Animation>No animation
Turn on Power saving mode
Settings>Display>Check “Power saving mode”
****************************************
5. Switch to 2G Signal
(2G signal consumes less battery compare to 3G)
Dial *#*#4636#*#* from the dial-pad of phone.
Phone Information> Scroll down and "Set preferred network type" choose "GSM only"
OR
Dial *#2263#
You will get band selection menu
Press Menu Softkey>Select>Enter “3” (for GSM Band)
****************************************
6. Set the Minimum Brightness Settings:Settings>Display>Brightness> Uncheck Automatic brightness and set it to minimum.
You can further lower the Screen brightness from 3rd party apps from Android Market without rooting.
****************************************
7. Set the Minimum Screen Timeout setting.
Settings>Display>Screen timeout> Set it to minimum i.e. 15 seconds.
****************************************
8. Turn Off Auto Sync:
Setting> Accounts and sync>Uncheck Background data and Auto-sync
****************************************
9. Turn Off Data Backup
Setting>Privacy>Uncheck "Back up my data"
****************************************
10. Don't use Live wallpapers.
Setting>Display>Wallpaper>Home screen wallpaper>Select the normal wallpaper through "Gallery" or "Wallpaper Gallery".
Or long press on the black area of homescreen and select Wallpapers from menu.
****************************************
11. Remove the Widgets from home-screen. Use minimum no. of homescreens.
Long press the Widget and drag it on Remove icon in the bottom of screen.
Try to keep minimum no. of home-screens.
To delete unwanted home screen:
Press Menu Softkey> Edit > Drag the unwanted homescreen on Remove icon in the bottom of screen.
Always put shorcut of frequently used apps on the home-screen.
****************************************
12. Kill the un-necessary background apps/tasks.
Settings>Applications>Running services >Select and stop the unnecessary background apps.
(Please avoid to stop system services if don't know about them).
You can also try stop them through 3rd party Task Manager/Task Killer from Android Market.
****************************************
13. Use Black/dark color theme in Apps (if you got option in it).
****************************************
14. Use Black background in home-screen.
AMOLED screens can reduce power usage by displaying black instead of white or other colors. You can also try Nightmode in "UC Browser" for web-browsing in phone. It will help to reduce battery draining during web-browsing.
You can try the attached black background for homescreen (Size 480x800, 2.5 KB only)
****************************************
15. Try to use 3rd party apps like Juice Defender, Battery Defender etc. from the Android Market.
****************************************
16. Avoid overloading your device with useless Apps/Games.
To uninstall the desired app
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Select the desired app>Press “Uninstall”
OR
Press Applications from homescreen >Press Menu Softkey >Edit>Select the app marked with red color “–“ sign (You can’t uninstall the app without “-“ mark)> Press ok to delete the app
Clear the call logs
(It will lower the burden on the phone. Please don’t use it if you are running out of power and got unsaved communication detail in it)
Open Dialpad>Select “Logs”>Press Menu Softkey>Select “Delete”>Check “Select all”>Press the Delete >Confirm the action by pressing “Ok”
****************************************
17. Don’t put your device in extremely cold and hot conditions (below 0° C and above 45° C).
****************************************
18. If you have Rooted Phone.
- You can under-volt the CPU of your phone through concerned apps.
- You can install customized battery friendly Gingerbread based ROMs or Kernels.
- You can freeze/remove bundled bloatware.
- You can disable adds displaying in free apps/games.
****************************************
19. Avoid to use Camera, Video Recorder, Video Player, Music Player, Web surfing etc. under critical battery condition. Also don’t use speakerphone.
****************************************
20. Use Good Quality Micro SD Card of minimum Class 4 and above.
Avoid to use Non branded low quality Micro SD Cards in your phone. Always use MicroSD cards of well known brands of minimum of Class 4. The higher the Class of Card, the better you performance get in Photo, Music, Video, Data Transfer etc. Now android supports Apps 2 SD (A2SD) feature. So did not mind to go even for Class 6 and above.
****************************************
20. Use paid Apps
Free version of the apps often display advertisement which also consumes battery. So it is advisable to go for paid version of app. (If you have root access only then you can stop displaying advertisement in free apps.)
****************************************
21. Power Charging Accessories
Always fully charge your device before going out. You can have USB charging cable with you. If you are going outside on trekking/picnic/hunting etc. always keep extra fully charged batteries with you. You can also have "Mobile Solar Charger" from ebay/amazon etc. This gadget have rechargable battery which can be charged through inbuilt Solar panel or through AC power. You can easily charge your device with it.
Suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks for viewing.
Nits
it doesn't really matter if you leave the GPS on. as long it is not being used it wont matter.
done trial and error with that.
Why don't you just turn the phone off and not use it or sell your infuse and get a Nokia flip phone. I bought my phones so i could use them. People worry about battery life too much.

I would advise you look to see if any Games you have aren't running as a background service, if you have a game that is then it needs to be deleted cause no game needs to run in your background. All games should Exit completely when you close them.
For those who hate ads during free games and apps and hate them getting in the way, Simple: Turn off Data and Wifi, As long as no internet is communicating with the phone no ads will show up and waste bandwidth as well as battery.

"Switching Phone off" is not good idea as it will consume more battery during turning on-off process. I will recommend to use Airplane mode.

Too funny, but I agree. I bought my phone to use and enjoy, not conserve it.
It's kind of like someone building a computer with 16gb of RAM, but then running a minimal desktop environment and tweaking it to use only 40mb.

Hi!
At the beggining - I'm sorry if you won't understand something. English isn't my main language, I still learn.
In some smartphones with AMOLED screen (such as Samsung Galaxy S4) black pixel = turned off pixel.
I've always been irritated because of the fact that our batteries aren't too great, but phone producers still produce their phones with hiper-resolution, which practically we cannot even see.
I have invented something, that later I turned to real app.
I call it Pixel Battery Saver, because it displays some kind of totally black mesh on the screen (you can change its density), so at least half of the pixels (or more) are turned off (so the screen consumes less energy!), while you are still able to read anything on your screen.
If you still don't understand, just take a look at the screenshots.

I've already created this app.
You may download and test it for free,
but if you really appreciate my work - I would be grateful for every donation (every single dollar would be helpful).
Let me know if you found any annoying bug or misspelling. This is my very first app - I still learn
FAQ:
What do I need this for?
- Imagine this situation - your battery level is really low, but you have to search for something important on the Internet. Making the brightness lower often isn't enough. That's when you would need my app - to turn off some count of pixels.
There are lots of apps that dim the screen...?
- This app works different. It doesn't overlay your screen with transparent image (but there is such option in premium version if you need it too). It overlays your screen with totally black screen, which makes some count of pixels off, to prevent them from consuming battery.
Do I really need AMOLED screen?
- The best results you can get right with AMOLED screen, where black pixel means turned off pixel. However, even in other type screens black pixels are saving some battery, so it's just worth to check.
In battery stats I can see that this app consumes a lot of energy. Why?
- Don't look at the stats, look at the real battery consumption. Probably, Android Battery Stats app "thinks", that this app display an image on the screen all the time, because of what it shows an information about consuming energy. In fact, this app turns OFF the pixels (in AMOLED screens with this function), so it SAVES that energy, not consumes.
When the mesh is on, I am unable to install apps (Install button is disabled). WTH?
- That's because of the Android Security. In premium version of Pixel Battery Saver I added an option to bypass this protection. In this free version you can simply turn off the app (by clicking "Turn off" button in Settings window) before installing any app and then turn on it again.
Density of the mesh that I recommend is "High".

There are a couple of issues with the concept as you've outlined it.
1) Turning off 50% of the screen you make small text unreadable. Even in your example the not so tiny temperature values are illegible.
2) While this would definitely conserve power in terms of physically lighting the screen, it might not be by as much as you'd think. The screen has multiple power sucking components. The first is the light producing LED's. Turning half of them off saves half the power. Simple math
. But the GPU that processes the screen imaging still runs at full speed even if the screen is blank. While the LED pixels aren't working, the GPU is still working to render a black image. So turning off half the pixels doesn't reduce the power draw required to run the entire display to 50% in total.
3) The app that overlays the black mesh will require the GPU to work overtime. It's got to render the image that's supposed to be in the screen plus it's got to render the black mesh over the native image. That could potentially use up more energy rendering the black than the black saves by not lighting the pixels.
4) The already built in option is to just turn the screen brightness down 50%. It accomplishes the same goal, requires no additional image rendering, and preserves the original image design without loss.

1) Why do you think so? As you can see on my image, it doesn't make the text unreadable (if the "mesh" is pixel-by-pixel)
2) Right, but everyone know that black-layout apps are muc better for our battery than colorful or white, right because black screen isn't that "hungry" of power
3) Ok, but there are lots of apps that creates a full-screen black (transparent) overlay to make the screen more "shade" (dim?) to save the power. It works, even thou all the thing you described in #3
4) Oh, right, but when my energy power is really low, I turn the screen brightness to the lowest level, but it still consumes a LOT of energy.
Anyway! This discussion isn't even important, maybe we should just CHECK if this may work, or if not?
But, as I said, I am just asking someone to create a simple app like this.
Thanks anyway for reply.

it's not worth in my opinion, while rendering half of the screen black would help save some battery, the saving wouldn't be so great, yes the screen is what burns the most battery on android but, its not just having it on, its having the phone out of deep sleep, having the touch sensor activated and registering touches, etc, not to mention it would just kill the great viewing experience that the phone offers.

Though when we are using our phones it has to render the whole screen anyway, so I think rendering a half of it would be better?
I am not thinking about this app making our screen always on. I just mean to display this mesh when we are using our phones and the battery level is low.
And, of course, it would kill the viewing experience, but when your battery level is 5% and you have to do some important research on the internet - you don't care about the viewing experience.
If you think turning the pixels on is not the thing that consumes the most of the battery, then turn the brightness to the highest level and then to the lowest and see how much it consumes... (changing the brightness doesn't change anything with the touch sensor and other thing you described though)
I thought my idea is really simple to develop for any Android developer and to see if it really works...
I think that if you do some comprehensive tests, you could bring some attention.
Create one image with this pattern, put on your phone and open it with any image viewer, put the bright on max. Let it run for some time.... Measure how much battery was sucked.... Test again with the same image, but without the pattern, do some statistics with the results.
Are you rooted? You could invert screen color or make it grayscale.
That's exactly what I was thinking about. I will do this tomorrow.
I'll post my quick opinion. It really depends on how the phone handles the screen, but my experience is from my old Galaxy S2 with NoLED running over night. I think NoLED program was essentially accomplishing what you are proposing (i.e. rest of screen is "off" or black) and on portion of the screen is on for the LED to hop around. However, even though the screen was black the screen was still draining at a quite high rate (~6%/hr on average). The screen needs to be "off" not just black in order to save more power.
But having stated the above, I am looking forward to your test results to compare and determine if it can save more battery.

Thanks for your opinion, but the screen in s2 is way different than on s4. The screen in s2 doesn't turn off the black pixels. The one in s4 does.
II am looking forward to do this test tomorrow
I think this would be like a filter app, such as the found in Play Store.
Exactly. I was talking about it but I forgot the name. I next hour I will do some tests.
Ok, thread can be closed - I've created this app by my own. I mean, I used many of tutorials and examples, and finally got it. Thanks anyway.
Could you share your findings?
This would be pretty hard, as I have read dozens of sites and forums to understand everything. There wasn't any quick or simple solution.
Did it work and save as much battery as you expected?

I still do not know, I have to test it multiple times to be sure.
Ok. I think it really works, but I'm still not sure. Give me few days to share the alpha version of my app (I just want to add some extra functions).
By the way, does anyone know where should I look for a list of phones with screens like in S4? I mean where the black pixel means it's off.

Hey there, guys.
I want to share with you my tweaks to get a better battery life while the tablet is on idle. [KitKat - Scroll down for lollipop update]
Processor state: Optimized.
Initial battery percent: 82%
Final battery percent: 45%
Battery percent loss: 37%
On Screen time: 1h 14m
Awake time: 1h 22m
Real awake time: 8 minutes.
Interval of time: 16h 55m
After many tests, I've notice that for every 10% of battery you get, at least, 30 minutes of Screen On. You can squeeze it even further to 40 minutes for every 10%
As you will see on the pictures, the WiFi was on for 10 hours, the rest was off because i went outside where WiFi was not available.

Now, the next screenshot will show you the "Partial wakelocks", they are the one that keeps your tablet awake. The lower, the better, but some of then are necessary while you work/play/surf on the tablet, so they will be there anywhere.
Trying to understand the Blake_wakelock.
I've spent some time trying to figure out how to stop this wakelock. The blake_wakelock is used by the "Shield Wireless Controller" nVidia system App to pair the controller; i don't know why it keeps alive after turn off the controller; so far the only not-brute-force method i have to stop it is by turning off the WiFi, also, in good conditions the blake_wakelock stop itself whilts screen is off. Once you turn it on again it comes back to life.

Since i don't need location service, because i don't need my tablet to be with me all the time snaping pictures to instagram them and say "Hey, i am here, rapist", i don't need any of those, so, i disable everything related which is "safe" to disable.[/.]

I'll attach to this thread a backup of the service i have disable, you can "restore" it using Disable service to auto disable the service. It may work for you or may not, so that's why i'll list the service i have off.

I recommend SD Maid for detect autostart components and disable them easily using the "Toggle autostart components off/on". Indeed, if you keep using Facebook, you can control it by disabling a lot of trash services.

Lollipop Update:
After a week of testing, Lollipop seems to be battery friendly, for example, the Blake_wakelock is not a problem anymore, on this new update the service is triggered anytime is needed, and it's killed once you disconnect your Shield Wireless Controller.
Without any extra tweaks, all the services disabled above still working fine for Android 5, but some others are not safe to disable; for example, disabling the Youtube Auto-start services cause several Play Service crashes and it's almost unusable.
The next pictures will show you the battery life i got with those tweaks and plus my power setting profile: 2 cores and 50% Max Speed. (The same results with Optimized profile, it seems like the Power Saving mode is not working properly on this update)
On normal conditions (Web surfing, reading and watching videos on Youtube and similar) the battery lost percent is 5% for each 15 minutes.
As you can see next, after 42min on screen, i lost 10% of the battery.
The settings menu shows 20 hours left:
After 60% of the battery consumed, i got 2hours 53min on screen. The 36min of held awake were due downloading games in the background. By that time my Shield was on battery since 1day 3hours and 32min:
And with that said, the settings - Battery shows 19 hours left on Battery:
GSAM Battery monitor measurement:
You can find attached the list (*.txt file) of the services I've disabled, you can actually use this with Disable Service app, place the file into /storage/emulated/0/ and restore it, all the changes will be applied (Root is mandatory)
More results (January, 2015 update):
This is what i got recently. Bright to 30% or kinda more, Optimized power mode and gaming (Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders using iPega at maxed graphics, which is a battery eater with 10% of battery for every 15 minutes of game play - Stickman epic and GRID games). I'm rooted. Running OTA 2.0 Android 5.0
Starting from 93% to 28%; after 1 day and 12 hours, i found it at 82% (0.3% per hour) and a estimated of 13 days left:
So, after start playing demanding games, it went down quickly, still got a good life time expected on battery:
You can clearly see when i was playing:
Final measure (I don't like it goes under 40% or 20%
Obviously this tablet needs an improvement for future versions of it, with more power to offer a real good experience, but in my opinion, taking care of your battery will give you a good space to play with it.
Some disabled are trying unsuccessfully to achieve that by try and fail. Anyway...
I would like to see yours.
More results - Updated 01/10/2015
And even more! - Updated 23/01/2015
I just disabled these Google Play Services you mentioned, on my LG G2. Let's see...

well done!!!!!
i wanna personally take the time to thank you for the effort put forth to find out the carp services we can eliminate to get our shields running balls out. i'll keep posting back no and then, just for s and g's and let ya know it's still kickin ass and throwing away the names.
ive also found (so far (fingers crossed)) that you can kill everything with "car" at the front under play services. i personally dont plan to use this beast in a car pretty much period, now im not a noob but this is a bit deeper than ive gotten on android (i used to do this kinda stuff for a livin on windows for years). but droid is a whole 'nother animal.
that said... thruth be told im homeless (lol)(no really) i spent a whole paycheck on my shield so i can game at camp. so thanks again for givin me a little more fun each day before i turn in.
i figure battery life and such falls under longevity so i thought i would post a bit here and more later to let ya know how all this keeps working on the road away from the grid and sometimes even a charging post.... (trees and tents dont have outlets)
that said... are there any OTHER things i can kill to get more life. and i mean the extreme stuff. i need NO location. no sync really unless i can tell it to myself (if i have only a few moments at a mcdonalds or sumfin to hit wifi i dont want it trying to sync and raping my batt)
how about apps? there are a ton i have no idea what is what. you have any clue what i can kill?
thanks again!!!!! blessed be

i figure battery life and such falls under longevity so i thought i would post a bit here and more later to let ya know how all this keeps working on the road away from the grid and sometimes even a charging post.... (trees and tents dont have outlets)
that said... are there any OTHER things i can kill to get more life. and i mean the extreme stuff. i need NO location. no sync really unless i can tell it to myself (if i have only a few moments at a mcdonalds or sumfin to hit wifi i dont want it trying to sync and raping my batt)
how about apps? there are a ton i have no idea what is what. you have any clue what i can kill?
thanks again!!!!! blessed be

Hey there, dude. Glad it worked for you, and i'll be waiting for your results.
About disabling the car features, you might do it, but i think it wouldn't gives you a major impact on your battery life, or at least it was never an issue for me. Anyway, you can try and see if this gives you even more.
In order to keep my system "under control", what i do is disable the auto-start in some apps i don't need it, also the push messages for those apps. For example, anytime i installed a game, i use SD Maid (Simple way to do it) for overview the app, if there is an autostart feature i disable it.
Facebook and stuff related could be a problem, but then again if you cut off the service you don't need from them, you'll be safe.
Good thread. I already disabled the services using your backup text.
I got a question, though. How can I re-enable all those services I disabled?? That's in case if something weird starts to happen*
*For ex: Google Play Music started to annoy me with a notification.

To revert back you should follow the rule number one on XDA: Backups first. Or, as you used the *.txt i've attached (I'll upload a new one) you can undo by hand one by one of the services disabled, which are listed.
It's kinda strange the error you're getting, if you don't mind, please post an screenshot or tell me what it says and i'll try to reproduce it.
Take care.

Its not an error. More of an annoyance. I couldnt reproduce it but its something small haha.
It was a Google notification, the classic triangle with the ! and it said: "Service disabled. An app needs this service" and the app was Google Play Music
I did a backup txt before disabling services, so no need to worry. I hadnt had anything wrong apart from that small notification
But thanks for your concern and for the new txt

There are some pictures in the first post which show a battery life of about 2 days and 5 hours on screen. I do gaming sometimes and for long part of the day my tablet is on standby.
All depends the use you givento the tablet, a sustained use with optimized mode will not give you more than 6 hours on screen with low brightness, and with battery saver mode it could be more; neverthelesse you will not get 12 hours or 24 in screen with this device, just because the battery is tiny.
First post updated with the *.txt file lollipop based.
If you're having problems importing the file with Disable Service, just open the txt file and with the app of your choice, disable the services listed.
Greetings.
this may help you dude

Can you update this for MM?
I get roughly 30 minutes every 5%.

On my Flip 3 the outer display orange dot does not show when I have a new phone call or text message notifications (when I open the phone badges show missed calls or messages). I do get the orange dot for missed Gmail mail and some other things.
Do I need to set some setting in order to enable the orange dot for missed calls or messages?
Thanks,
Barry.
Hi,
I did a test and everything working fine for me. Try checking the notification settings for you message and phone app. I guess the orange dot is only showing if notifications are turned on

Thanks. That's good to know.
On my phone notifications are turned on for both the default phone app and default messaging app.
For the default phone app, notifications appear to be turned on, but the slide switches are grayed out. I am not able to control those notifications by turning them off or on – the switch is to the right so they appear to be on, but the switch is gray not green.
For the default messaging app, the switch is to the right, it's green, and I can switch notifications off and on – they are currently on.
I have a feeling I might know why I'm not receiving that notification dot. I have that phone number forwarded to Google Voice. If I don't answer, Google Voice picks up and takes a message. Google Voice says something about also handling messages, although I don't know how that works. I receive messages on my phone. Once Google Voice told me I had a new message, but other times no. I don't remember seeing that orange dot when I receive a new message. I will have to test it some more.
Barry.
Phone app showing the same for me. I think these are the default settings.

I tried to reproduce the behavior for the messages. Only way it does not show the orange dot is by turning off notifications at all or activating DND (without setting exception to show notification while DND mode).
Unfortunately Google voice is not available here, so I can't test it.

Notifications on this phone are garbage. At least from the standpoint of knowing when you have one without manually turning the exterior screen on.
When you get a notification the exterior screen turns on for like a second and that's it.
They need options..like edge lighting or a simple blinking dot because unless you saw it turn on for that spit second then tough luck. If Someone sent you an important text or email and you didn't see the screen flash on then off you're out of luck.
It's ridiculous. It's lazy and I expect better from a company like Samsung...
I deeply regret buying this phone for just that reason alone..

True but that's fundamentally the same as tapping the exterior screen twice to see if there's a notification dot.
Im hoping the developer of aodnotify @Jawomo can use the code in another thread (located here https://bit.ly/3n0VG5d) that allows you to do things with the exterior display like edge lighting or a blinking dot and plenty more but the first 2 would be helpful for notifications received when you weren't looking at the phone.
I just don't understand why Samsung limited the exterior screen options so much. It seems like such an obvious idea to be able to tweak notification settings for the exterior screen...but Samsung seems to always go half way on their software... Except for their extreme and broken battery saving methods. Like say you don't open your clock app for 3 days... Even if you have an alarm set for day 4 their over aggressive battery software will put the app to sleep and not allot it to run in the background..and your alarm won't go off on day 4. Even if you allow an app to run in the background and disable battery optimization for that app this still happens.
You can sort of disable it so it's less aggressive but looking at the settings you might not know 100% what it's actually doing and your average user probably won't change any of those settings.

Me too...me too.
It can't be that hard to implement lol. Even if you use the screen as a fake LED I'd be happy.
Agree notification light is something extremely useful. Last time i 've had it on Mi 9 or Note 9 phone. Rest in piece! Only Xperia offers it nowadays.
Also think Z Flip notifications are great and bad at the same time. You have widgets, you can swipe notifications away, you can read long messages and people can see themselves on that screen. Now with AOD off, you have permanent charging notification which is wonderful. That exactly emulates a white (pulsing) notification light. But with AOD on, situation changes. Charging status is suddenly impossible to read. Oh, the microscopic battery icon, not again. Notifications pop up for a quick period of time. Orange dot sometimes disappears. There should be app icons instead like on normal AOD!

The only widget I find useful is the timer. Swiping notifications away is fine but doesn't really help let me know I have some unless I actively go looking.
Having the charge screen on all the time doesn't appeal to me either, if I want to see it I'll just tap the screen. Ive never liked things staying on all the time, not even the clock but I know plenty of people do so I understand why it's an option.
The orange dot is pretty useless. It disappears if you turn the exterior screen on even if it's just to see the time and you don't touch anything else.
That's why I wish someone would make edge lighting for the exterior screen. The code needed to make it work has been posted but who knows if someone will do it.
Like I said I use aodnotify to basically keep the exterior screen turned on for 2 min when I get any kind of notification. That way I can look over and know. I always have my phone on vibrate and vibration on Samsung phones is so weak. On ever phone I've owned that wasn't Samsung I could hear the vibration from across the room but with the note 9, 10+ and this I can't hear it vibrate when it's a couple feet away.
Samsung... Always going half way when it comes to their software. No idea how they became number 1.

to be fair, no other brand is close to Samsung software like I moaned here. Several times i returned the phone like Sony, Alcatel because of dead blank OS. Quit OnePlus because of that too. Xiaomi has just a overmodified bloatware and spyware. There's no brand that can compete with Samsung regarding software.
Also it's Samsung that can notify you in a brutal way -- do the edge effect, blink with flash, repeat notifications until you notice.. This creates an explosive cocktail of effects you can't miss. I'd just prolong the notification time, it's really short. But it's the same with other brands!
Avoided 3rd party notif light apps, as they burn battery quick. But i tried aodnotify as it promises something different. It's highly configurable but can't modify the small screen. I have the phone closed 99% of time so it's useless for me But thanks for the tip, i will use in next time, if i ever will have a classic phone.

Wait... First off there is no edge lighting on this phone. It's irrelevant if there is on other Samsung phones especially since you can get better edge lighting via aodnotify and it doesn't use much battery at all. Ive used it for years and it's very efficient. In fact I've used plenty of notification apps like one on the original Pixel to give me a blinking LED style notification light that changed color based on app and it barely used any battery either. Plus you can get edge lighting on any phone by using an app. Samsung's own edge lighting is horrible. It lacks granularity in it's settings and features. aodnotify fixes all of that as do tons of other notification apps but aod is the best for edge lighting and the z Flip3.
aodnotify does work with the z Flip3. First if the phone is open (screen on or off) it will provide edge lighting or other effects like fake LED, camera hole light etc. If the phone is closed aodnotify will let you make it so the exterior screen can be set to stay on as long as you want when you get a notification. So it is useful for the z Flip3. I don't know how you missed the settings for always on display but mines set to always off unless a notification is received. Then it's enabled, screen set to stay on for 2 min unless the notification is cleared. Very helpful, especially since Samsung basically has no notification options.
As for Samsung software being good... I completely disagree. Also other companies default software is irrelevant, Samsung makes massive profits every year on phones. They should be able to make decent apps. The majority of them are rated 3 stars or less on the Galaxy store.
It's buggy, it lacks options and features and not only is there a massive amount of bloat, some of it is basically spyware sending everything you do to Samsung. Thankfully I can block that with Adguard.
Googles apps are superior in every way despite the fact that GAPPS is just supposed to be the basic frame work for what these kinda of apps should be. Samsung SHOULD have far superior apps with way more options and better UI's than GAPPS but they don't. Their dialer is super basic, so is contacts. Their messaging app doesn't support RCS and it's ugly. The calendar, calculator...all of it worse then GAPPS.
Then there's their ridiculous changes to battery management. Instead of using what's built into Android they made a custom solution that's beyond overly aggressive.
Let's say you work mon-fri every week but you take Friday off so on Wednesday or Thursday you open the clock app and shut off the alarm for Friday. When Monday comes your alarm won't go off because their battery software has put it to deep sleep even though you set it up so it can run in the background AND you disabled battery optimization for the app. It's ridiculous and actually breaks some apps. It can also cause delays in getting text messages and emails. It can even cause wifi calling to break mid call.
I could go on with tons of in depth issues but I think that's enough for now. I expect better from the #1 mobile phone company. Much better. I've given them 5 chances if you count the galaxy nexus which felt cheaply made but thankfully didn't run Samsung software...
So once a year goes by and the next pixel comes out there's a 99% chance I'll buy it and sell this z Flip3. The only way I wouldn't get a pixel is if Microsoft makes a duo 3 and actually tries or another company makes a really good phone that can also be rooted. Regardless of what I buy there's one thing I know for sure...it won't be made by Samsung

I'm back in the Samsung camp because of the software. Been there since SPlus phone (as the era of HTC was ending) with some interruption. I've listed dozens of reasons in the linked post. You want more from this company while you're getting nothing from the others. Samsung is not in the business of Gapps, so it's not fair to mention it, and you shouldn't use such spyware anyway (then why you care about adguard?). I've used Google "phone apps" (caller, calendar, photos) and it was too simple. Who still gives you rich LOCAL music player, who still gives you LOCAL video player (other brands cancelled both). Gallery with post edit, map, s-pen zoom and gestures (Note) is good, no need google Photos. Who gives you best calendar app with nice UI, weather, home timezone, spen preview? I've seen anything comparable to that other than ver geeky apps on the market. Caller which plays recorded calls directly from UI? Lovely. Love the call popup settings that others don't gives you. Who gives you OneUI, 10x richer than other layouts while fast. Onehand mode, or even scroll the screen down basic function of OneUI. The one and only legendary Edge panel that can't be replicated (tried ALL clones). The best AOD, best edge lightning + flash + screen effects (for large screen). Best accessibility options in market period. Best functional camera. You can still say cheeeese to shoot and no other brands can do. You can recognize objects, scan documents or get assistance in shooting situations. And so much more. I'd rate Samsung software ******** while OnePlus ** Sony ** Xiaomi ** LG ** etc. Don't know about Google but i assume it's the same mediocrity (again i don't count their non-phone apps). And i'm heavily debloated, work without Samsung account and still profit from this ecosystem heavily.
Yes they kill apps https://dontkillmyapp.com/ but is perfectly manageable. All you do is choose few core apps and prioritize them, while the most garbage gets killed. This approach is very helpful for battery and OnePlus invented it (that's why they always had nice scores on gsmarena). I moaned first, but now i agree.
Pixel 6 is a horrid phone based on people, and now heavy (that's why i chose ZFlip), let's see next year.
Samsung just pushed AOD app update for ZFlips. I tested the orange dot and it works for all messages and calls. It even blinks. Again, no other firmwares i know incl AOSP offers longer notifications than this. It's always displayed shortly or not at all. Samsung of course has the most configurable AOD and notifications with color highlighting, color match app, bubbles, smart popups. Split app from task manager or Edge panel. It's insane. You can even prolong the AOD notification timeout in the settings or even the toast messages! Here we found the glitch. This setting simply needs to apply on cover screen too and problem solved. Let's wait for another update, i'm sure it will come. It's not like in other brands where phone software stays the same for years.
There's no edge effect on the cover screen (yet!), but that flash makes me jump out of bed. Expecting a major company to produce geeky nice apps like aodnotify is very unrealistic. It won't happen. BTW I still can't make aodnotify work with cover screen. I went through all the settings and it has zero impact there.
I just played with Bixby settings.. you can set action when folded, half folded, unfolded. Stay unlocked when driving. Hundreds of settings. Talking about Samsung not having enough functionality or settings.. oh no, that's so wrong. ZFlip 4 is in my preorder basket.

It's perfectly fair to compare Samsung's version of GAPPS to Google's.. messaging app vs messaging app. Calendar vs Calendar.
The spyware is a HIDDEN service always running in the background and I care about Adguard because it blocks ads, trackers and analytics in ALL apps and it works as a firewall. Go to adguard.com and look. The play store version is NOT Adguard, it's an extension for 2 browsers.
I got the latest update and no...the exterior screen does not have a blinking dot. When you get a notification the exterior screen turns on for a couple seconds and then shuts off. You can see the dot if you double tap the screen but that's not helpful. I want something to blink when I get a notification without me needing to touch the phone.
I'm glad you like Samsung's apps but I can get better versions of everything they offer. I can use Google apps for my dialer, contacts, messages, calendar, calculator and clock. I use Nova as my launcher because OneUI is too basic. I use Google now via Nova and Google assistant instead of Bixby. Bixby is god awful and once again google does it better.
Yeah you can change some settings for battery management but then you have NO battery management. Also the average person isn't going to know any of this so they will fall victim to apps not working and alarms not going off. That's poor design.
So I can say I think Samsung's software is terrible and you can like it.
I'm too tired to read the rest so I'll do it tomorrow.

perhaps i imagine Gapps as Maps etc or the office apps. But let's say it's all Google apps. I've had Pixel ROMs which were based on Google apps you mentioned and didn't notice anything special. Just pure basic. Or forcing to online services. Samsung wins for privacy, i don't like to be tracked so i run those local media players w/o access to internet. I like DLNA, screen mirror stuff. There are no players on other mobiles nowadays and often with DLNA turned off (to force you social networks). Clock - better too, with repetitions until you wake the f*** up. With weather time zones. Calculator - better because it's in Edge panel, super productive. Who else has it? Debloated Bixby - BixbyVision suits me better and I removed Google spyware app completely. Most of it can work offline. Bixby Voice - i don't use such technology until it will be OFFLINE. Bixby routines - fantastic. SmartThings + Audio + Devices on notifpanel - didn't see anything like that before. I can control home devices or cameras from lockscreen! File manager - better, and it connects to web folders and samba (oh my god, thanks). I'm sure Google will give you a chance to connect... to GDrive $$ LOL. Camera better than Gcam as noted. GCam ports = placebo. Camera "AR" very rich and more private than a typical ad-infested apps on market. Samsung Kids - what? Absolutely incredible. And with home screen lock for parents. There's even a general "Pin lock" i again didn't see on the other brands. Samsung Keyboard - very strong even vs GBoard and other brands which provide... nothing. Screen recorder, audio recorder, animation, capture scrolling screen, capture rectangle then extract text - wow. Where are these functions on other brands? I have 5 flagships yearly and I don't recall none of it, maybe i have a short memory And Note series add even more. Smart Stay - great (other brands? hello? Sony has one - kudos!). Edge compass, ruler, torch - so useful. Quick measure - thanks, another adware from appstore spared. Dual messenger - multiple accounts of one chat app? OK! Finder app? don't get my started. There's no competition, forget Sezame. I've spend years searching for an alternative. Is it available from task manager? Yes. Can you drag a window from task manager to a popup or split screen? Yes, and you don't need a stupid tap like on Sony. From Edge panel too. Emergency app on 4 power clicks - thanks (3 clicks = always a mistake). Samsung flow - display Android screen on PC + notifications? Great, no need to pay. Samsung Notes - lengedary. Samsung Pass. Secure folder. Samsung Swich. Samsung Health. Smart View. Tons of notification panel's actionable icons. It just keeps giving. It's insane how much MORE you get with Samsung.
And launcher? Of course I use Nova or similar. But does it mean anyone else got a better one than OneUI? Who? I know: absolutely noone, so why mention it? I don't get the hate. That's the industry standard for vendor launchers - be basic, not to scare the public with overwhelming functionality.
-> Overall, I rate Samsung firmware as 5-10x better than closest competitor. It's a knock out win. This is why I left Xiaomi, OnePlus, Sony, LG and Google, and returned back to the best brand. I was tired of vanilla OS and hated the low investments they make to it. It actually make Samsung cheap.
Re dot - it's there nonstop until you review notifications and it's blinking after an event like missed call. Perhaps you don't have AOD on. Phones w/o notif.light won't provide permanent notification with AOD off it seems. So far the only perma message text displayed on screen i saw was on Garmin watches. 10 letters of most recent notification. Yeah i keep them because of this. I wish it came to mobile phones too. For aesthetic reasons, i don't think it will. Imagine stuffing clock, date, battery, app icon, sender name, text into one small screen. At this point, i just want to prolong the timeout. It's too short.
Re alarms - they're triggered every day. Maybe you're using Naptime to kill it. Kudos to OnePlus to be a rare brand which can turn on the phone to raise alarm. I thought this died with HTC or simple phone era.
Samsung is worse than Google for privacy. They send more data to themselves than Google does.
Thankfully Adguard blocks all that crap.
As for GAPPS v Samsung... They are just as simple ok the Samsung side by with worse UI's. Plus I prefer simple.
If I want something good I'll just get it from the store.
This is definitely my last Samsung phone. I'll probably go with a pixel next but as long as it's hardware is good and it can be rooted then brand isnt as important.
Then I can use whatever rom I want. Back to battery...if you disable Samsung battery functions then you basically cut battery life in half. They seem to have disabled the built in battery saving functions from AOSP so when you shut that insanely aggressive management off...you get nothing.
I would prefer if it worked like my older note used to work. I had ability to just have orange dot notification. Also I was able to set a different color for notifications that came from the "secure folder" apps.
I prefer not having a screen lock over swipe for a couple reasons. Anyways I found that for some reason, after receiving any form of notification, text, email, etc; the device will unlock on its own. I just factory reset the device right now and It's still doing it. So obviously this is an intended feature. So dumb. Also since charging causes a notification to appear on my screen, that will unlock it as well. Is there a solution for this via third party tools? I really don't want to have to go back to swipe if I can.
Thanks in advance.
I use double tap on/off for my N10+'s.
The screen notifications you want not to show?
They don't cause any harm, use much battery, and not a security risk other than what they display as they are automatically isolated by the firmware and have limited functionality.
Double Tap works on Android 9 and 10 but maybe not 11.
Double tapping to unlock screen is a native feature of the no lock screen type. The problem is, notifications automatically cause the screen to unlock. This seems like an intended behavior for android because I noticed this on the past 3 androids I've used.
My question is, can this be fixed with some third party tool?

The Double tap app lets you turn off the display too by double tapping.
Disable notifications for it...

It looks like in the newest version of android they fixed the unlocking issue with notifications when using no screen lock, however, my device unlocks itself after charging has been disconnected (whether by cable or wireless). Also annoying. Does this app you mentioned fix that too?

My N10+ is always unlocked, no password, fingerprint, etc are/were ever set. It's normal behavior for the screen to come on after unplugging the charger. I tap it off if I don't want to use it...
Lock screen notifications aren't an issue at least on Pie, haven't checked my N10+ running on Android 10
I can enable or disable them as I please. They consume little power. Tap on AOD however does save about .5%@hr of battery.

Is there a way to stop my screen from unlocking after charging is paused with a third party app? Its just one more android annoyance I am trying to resolve after I recently had to reset my phone. Next time I will use apple because I find that 90% of the so called "superior android customizations" that I make are just to fix oversights of the platform itself.

What's the issue in that it does this?
Power off phone, charge... problem solved.
I never considered this an issue at all.
The N10+ is a better phone than any Apple. No Apple display can touch the N10+'s display color rendering index specs. No SD card, no spen and no control over the firmware... Apple sucks.

The whole point of android is that it is "more customizable" to accommodate different users' preferences.
When you have dozens of small oversights like this, it collectively adds up to a poor and unsatisfactory expiereince.
So you are telling me I should power off my phone as a "fix" to the screen unlocking itself ON ITS OWN? What if I am getting ready to put it in my pocket? You probably don't want your device unlocked in your pocket for an extended period of time do you? So to prevent that, it would require user input to relock the screen.
So in a nutshell, android made a feature that is useless and annoying 9 times out of 10 with no disable option... If this feature requires your input to return to the previous state 9 times out of 10 or more, then that is a feature that causes unwanted outcomes 90% of the time. Look up the definition of annoying.
The complaints you are listing about iPhone are not design flaws or oversights like this. Most people don't need SD cards unless you download an excessive amount of "videos" and music. The s-pen is not even fully supported by samsung apps, as there is no way to globally disable finger touch input when writing causing unwanted actions to be performed, making the whole thing just a samsung marketing gimmick. There are styluses that you can purchase for iPhone, that can fit inside a holster, in the rare case that one would need a stylus for a smartphone.
Long story short, apple just has better design choices. It took android 10 years to disable notification unlock when using no screen lock, so what does that tell you? The latest gripe I have now besides this that caused my whole device to be bricked is the stupid system notifications that cannot be disabled. I thought android was more customizable?

Your initial complaint was it going screen after unplugging the charger?
In pocket turn ons... turn display away from skin.
A good case like the Zizo Bolt helps prevent this too; a good case is mandatory for this phone or it will be destroyed.
I really don't have any of these issues with my N10+'s. They run great, fast with good battery life, are stock, heavily optimized and customized.
They behave almost exactly how I want them to.
An Apple* can't touch them.
You need a basic understanding of the Android variant you own to do this, gained largely by just playing with them, but I read a lot as well.
But by all means go to an iPhone... they work.
*I've used Apples for work... never would have one for personal use. Far too limited and hamstringed... by design.
