Hello & Namaste _/|\_ to All,
I have tried to compile battery saving tips/tricks for Samsung infuse through Internet/forums. These settings have been taken from Samsung Infuse 4G running Gingerbread 2.3.6 UCLB3. I am sure all will find it somehow useful.
****************************************
1. Use the Gingerbread based ROM/Kernel.
(Please update your phone firmware through Samsung Kies or flash through Odin etc. Gingerbread 2.3.5 and above have better battery performance). Also keep your phone apps up to date.
****************************************
2. Check the phone what is using the largest percentage of battery power.
Settings> About phone> Battery use
****************************************
3. Turn Off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Screen Rotation, Mobile Data etc. (Turn them on only on requirement).
You can turn off Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth, GPS, Screen Rotation through the Notification bar. (If they have green color it means they are on) If you also want to block GSM signal then turn on Airplane mode (you will unable to make & receive voice calls/SMS in this mode).
To turn off Mobile Data
Settings>Wireless and network>Mobile networks>Uncheck "Use packet data".
****************************************
4. Turn off Vibration, extra sounds, animation and enable Power saving mode
Settings>Sound>Vibrate>Never
Settings>Sound>Volume> Lower the volume of Incoming call, media, system and notification.
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Audible selection"
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Screen lock sounds"
Settings>Sound>Uncheck "Haptic feedback"
Turn off Animation
Settings>Display>Animation>No animation
Turn on Power saving mode
Settings>Display>Check “Power saving mode”
****************************************
5. Switch to 2G Signal
(2G signal consumes less battery compare to 3G)
Dial *#*#4636#*#* from the dial-pad of phone.
Phone Information> Scroll down and "Set preferred network type" choose "GSM only"
OR
Dial *#2263#
You will get band selection menu
Press Menu Softkey>Select>Enter “3” (for GSM Band)
****************************************
6. Set the Minimum Brightness Settings:Settings>Display>Brightness> Uncheck Automatic brightness and set it to minimum.
You can further lower the Screen brightness from 3rd party apps from Android Market without rooting.
****************************************
7. Set the Minimum Screen Timeout setting.
Settings>Display>Screen timeout> Set it to minimum i.e. 15 seconds.
****************************************
8. Turn Off Auto Sync:
Setting> Accounts and sync>Uncheck Background data and Auto-sync
****************************************
9. Turn Off Data Backup
Setting>Privacy>Uncheck "Back up my data"
****************************************
10. Don't use Live wallpapers.
Setting>Display>Wallpaper>Home screen wallpaper>Select the normal wallpaper through "Gallery" or "Wallpaper Gallery".
Or long press on the black area of homescreen and select Wallpapers from menu.
****************************************
11. Remove the Widgets from home-screen. Use minimum no. of homescreens.
Long press the Widget and drag it on Remove icon in the bottom of screen.
Try to keep minimum no. of home-screens.
To delete unwanted home screen:
Press Menu Softkey> Edit > Drag the unwanted homescreen on Remove icon in the bottom of screen.
Always put shorcut of frequently used apps on the home-screen.
****************************************
12. Kill the un-necessary background apps/tasks.
Settings>Applications>Running services >Select and stop the unnecessary background apps.
(Please avoid to stop system services if don't know about them).
You can also try stop them through 3rd party Task Manager/Task Killer from Android Market.
****************************************
13. Use Black/dark color theme in Apps (if you got option in it).
****************************************
14. Use Black background in home-screen.
AMOLED screens can reduce power usage by displaying black instead of white or other colors. You can also try Nightmode in "UC Browser" for web-browsing in phone. It will help to reduce battery draining during web-browsing.
You can try the attached black background for homescreen (Size 480x800, 2.5 KB only)
****************************************
15. Try to use 3rd party apps like Juice Defender, Battery Defender etc. from the Android Market.
****************************************
16. Avoid overloading your device with useless Apps/Games.
To uninstall the desired app
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Select the desired app>Press “Uninstall”
OR
Press Applications from homescreen >Press Menu Softkey >Edit>Select the app marked with red color “–“ sign (You can’t uninstall the app without “-“ mark)> Press ok to delete the app
Clear the call logs
(It will lower the burden on the phone. Please don’t use it if you are running out of power and got unsaved communication detail in it)
Open Dialpad>Select “Logs”>Press Menu Softkey>Select “Delete”>Check “Select all”>Press the Delete >Confirm the action by pressing “Ok”
****************************************
17. Don’t put your device in extremely cold and hot conditions (below 0° C and above 45° C).
****************************************
18. If you have Rooted Phone.
- You can under-volt the CPU of your phone through concerned apps.
- You can install customized battery friendly Gingerbread based ROMs or Kernels.
- You can freeze/remove bundled bloatware.
- You can disable adds displaying in free apps/games.
****************************************
19. Avoid to use Camera, Video Recorder, Video Player, Music Player, Web surfing etc. under critical battery condition. Also don’t use speakerphone.
****************************************
20. Use Good Quality Micro SD Card of minimum Class 4 and above.
Avoid to use Non branded low quality Micro SD Cards in your phone. Always use MicroSD cards of well known brands of minimum of Class 4. The higher the Class of Card, the better you performance get in Photo, Music, Video, Data Transfer etc. Now android supports Apps 2 SD (A2SD) feature. So did not mind to go even for Class 6 and above.
****************************************
20. Use paid Apps
Free version of the apps often display advertisement which also consumes battery. So it is advisable to go for paid version of app. (If you have root access only then you can stop displaying advertisement in free apps.)
****************************************
21. Power Charging Accessories
Always fully charge your device before going out. You can have USB charging cable with you. If you are going outside on trekking/picnic/hunting etc. always keep extra fully charged batteries with you. You can also have "Mobile Solar Charger" from ebay/amazon etc. This gadget have rechargable battery which can be charged through inbuilt Solar panel or through AC power. You can easily charge your device with it.
Suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks for viewing.

it doesn't really matter if you leave the GPS on. as long it is not being used it wont matter.
done trial and error with that.

Why don't you just turn the phone off and not use it or sell your infuse and get a Nokia flip phone. I bought my phones so i could use them. People worry about battery life too much.

I would advise you look to see if any Games you have aren't running as a background service, if you have a game that is then it needs to be deleted cause no game needs to run in your background. All games should Exit completely when you close them.
For those who hate ads during free games and apps and hate them getting in the way, Simple: Turn off Data and Wifi, As long as no internet is communicating with the phone no ads will show up and waste bandwidth as well as battery.

"Switching Phone off" is not good idea as it will consume more battery during turning on-off process. I will recommend to use Airplane mode.

This is a great tutorial... don't listen to the smart ass comments, if they used have the stuff you have in here we devs would get the "my battery life sucks!" Posts all the time... and yes even if your not using GPS, the radio is still scanning for GPS, so your trial and error was not complete... just cause you don't see it, doesn't mean its not running, believe me it is... great job on this tutorial bro, keep up the good work!

Another tip that I use is to turn phone in airplane mode when I go to sleep, it doesn't drop the battery level at all

Too funny, but I agree. I bought my phone to use and enjoy, not conserve it.
It's kind of like someone building a computer with 16gb of RAM, but then running a minimal desktop environment and tweaking it to use only 40mb.

Yes I agree you are free to use and enjoy your phone. But following persons can find these tips useful :
1. Person stuck in condition without power charging source.
2. Users who complaints about battery life.
3. Environment Friendly and battery saver persons like me

Since the initial release on Aug 2010 as the first one click instant access app and its super unique always available design , Smart Taskbar has became the origin of several similar one click instant access app in Android Market today. Today, after more than 6 month of beta testing, I am proud to announce that Smart Taskbar is finally going to V1.0.0 stage. V1.0.0 is more stable, faster, more feature packed and also more visually appealing than its previous - beta testing product.
Smart Taskbar is a - super launcher, task switcher, an app organizer, shortcut manager, and widget viewer that you can quickly call up on any window by swipe the edge of screen or by clicking a transparent trigger icon on screen. In most cases, you can complete app launching in 2 finger clicks (1st swipe, and 2nd click on app icon to launch). Possibly the fastest way to quickly launch or switch between applications.
If you want to use your phone one handed with complete touch screen experience, you find Android takes too many steps to complete one simple job, or you want to get a faster way to get things organized, get Smart Taskbar to make your like easier.
Smart Taskbar comes with following features
(1) 5 speedy launch spots for 2 steps quick launch
(2) App organizer function built in
(3) Task switch
(4) super speedy launcher
(5) Software home button (To prevent H/W home button from tear and wear)
(6) True multitask experience!
(7) Able to build your own custom action to launch
Reason why to use Smart Taskbar:
(1) Free up your home screen for more widgets instead of app shortcuts
(2) A better way to organize app in to groups
(3) Need a super fast way to launch your app
(4) Missing the multi tasking in Palm Pre
(5) Don't want to press hardware button too frequently

great app
thanks for posting this good app, it is so greate and useful that i use it every time when i use my phone.
i like the quick luanch function most, hereever i am, it is easy and quick to switch to another app.
also i can organized all my apps by different lables. then i can catch it easily by related lable.
of cource it goes smooth on my phone and till now, i have not found any defect to remove it.
my pleasure to share it with everyone.
Nice app. Uses a good amount of cpu tho and the visuals could use a bit of polish but definitely effective. Looking forward to see it develop.
Hi,
CPU usage if Smart taskbar should be no different than regualr Android app. You are seeing high CPU occupation because you do a lot of scroll in app list. Try yourself and scroll grid list in other app such as gallery and you will see similar CPU usage.
Since getting my Legend over 4 months ago I've been looking for something like this.
This seems to fit the bill, I will be sure to check it out! Just hope the CPU related comments are as per the OP's response ^.
EDIT: Oops, not what I thought it was. I thought this would 'pin' certain apps to the notification area for quick access.
Yes, you are correct the scrolling taxes cpu on any app so that is fair enough. I would like to see widgets integrated somehow similar to the way power strip does and I would use this exclusively for sure.
I am really happy with the app. Works great and has let me clan up my home screen. Much better then I thought it would be.

It is truly a personal preference question. But notification doesn't show up in full screen app. In this case, u can't access to quick launcher. In addition, u need to (1) expand notification bar, (2) click on notification item, (3) click on the item u wish to launch. It is 3 steps. Anyway, just like i said, it is pure personal preference question. Hope you can find it useful eventually.
Wow, works great and is just great!! This is definitly a Must-have app!
I was hoping to give this app a try, but the developer decided to pull it of most non english markets see http://kiumiu.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/closing-most-non-english-user-on-market/
Can anyone give me an apk so I can give it a try?
tia
Looks like it would work great - but DOES NOT scale, if you've changed your LCD density. The click button to slide it out shows in the middle of the screen!
If the scaling issue gets resolved, it would be fantastic. In the meantime, it's very difficult to use it if you've changed the LCD density.
EDIT: Found it using an american ID on market-enabler, looks like its still in some of the english ones.

That's what I was hoping for too...
I like this overall, but I do think it has a few weaknesses.
First, app scrolling is very slow, I'm used to fast scrolling in my device whether it's LauncherPro or Touchwiz. I'd be willing to deal with cached icons or anything else for a short term fix. (Korean Galaxy S, SHW-m110s)
Second, while in the app I can't use my home button, which means, if I want to use home button to get home I can't. It also means I lose access to QuickDesk while in your app.
Overall, I'd recommend this, especially to those who don't use something like QD. Still, this has a more complete experience than QD so that's a definite plus over it, but QD has a real speed advantage as well as it's where I put power control widget for it's easy access within apps. I could see using this heavily with faster speed, even still due it's customizations that I haven't yet utlized it's probably better than I've already stated. Thanks for the good work, Dev, looking forward to more!
Strange, but I stuck on how to use screen...
Can get to the settings screen.

Same here. I can hit the 'open' button, but if I press the settings icon...it goes to the 'how to use' screen with the blue hand on it. The only thing I can do from there is open the dock...which works...but I would really like to access the settings menu. I am keeping the .apk, but have uninstalled as of now for failure to access settings.

I initially had the same problem. I think you have to click "dismiss", then after that, access settings from within the main screen of the app (it might've been from hitting the menu button, but I don't think that was my method, though they probably do the same). There are only 2 settings in the "settings" menu though. Other settings/customizations will be found within the app itself, such as pinning most common favorite apps to your easy to launch area.
I'll edit if the developer corrects me on anything, I only played around with it for about 15 minutes.
Like I said, I basically like the app, however, I encountered a big problem with it in the past 12 hours since my original post. My "Android OS" usage shot through the roof when I was asleep. I'm a guy who, at least when at home and definitely when asleep, doesn't use 3G, so I leave it off. Also, I don't use sync, so my Android OS is typically very low 2-4% and I get insane standby time in my Galaxy S, 1-2% drain in a typical night. Last night, I probably drained at least 30% but I think closer to 40%. Something is going on with the app that doesn't let my phone stay in standby mode.
Then this morning, I was very tired, so perhaps I slept through my smart alarm (it's somewhat quiet, though not very, and it'd only be the 2nd time and the first time the speaker was blocked). I was surprised when I was woken up by a backup alarm on my phone, so most functionality definitely remained. But then, 15 minutes later, my last resort alarm didn't go off, and I was monitoring the phone a bit to make sure it would. Right after it was supposed to another (very stable app, not to be named) force closed for maybe the 2nd time in it's life on me (no update in at least a week). Right after that, my power button wouldn't function to turn my screen off, it still brought up options to do things like Airplane mode, power off, etc, but touch to turn screen off doesn't work (and I leave my timer off).
I think updated I'll really like this app, plenty of potential here, but I have to uninstall. Thanks though.
Battery life issues (less phone sleep/standby)
Seemed to cause conflict with another app, but it could've been coincidence
Slow app scrolling
screenshots please????

Hi,
I am developing on Galaxy too. Your phone lock up issue is basically caused by smart Alarm. when it happens, Smart Alarm doesn't make any sound, CPU usage of Smart alarm goes to 60-80%. At same time, my phone gets so hot like 40-50 'c. I am very sure this will happen to you even after uninstalling Smart Taskbar. Not using Smart Alarm is the only way to solve it. I am not sure is it fixed in later firmware release. In addition, my app doesn't use any wake lock. Therefore it doesn't block your phone from going to standby.
For battery life issue, I have used SystemPanel to monitor one week CPU time usage of my app, basically it uses less than 0.1% overall. Therefore, should have very very small battery drain.
For slow scroll, I do use cached app list. Launcher Pro is simply too great. Nothing can compare to its super smooth scrolling so far. But I think my app performs on par with standard launcher
By the way, are u using Galaxy S or the old 7500 Galaxy?

Hello,
I am not sure is it a bug but plz make sure you click the dismiss button. I think a reboot can solve it if pressing dismiss can't fix it.

[APP] Auto Data Version 2.5 [09/27/12] Free & Donate Version

Okay created a simple app for my own use that i'm not yet sure if it will extend battery life since I just finished it today and will do the testing tomorrow!
Concept on What It Does?
- If your display screen is off, it toggles the mobile data to turn on/off every few minutes.
- If the display is on, then it wont turn the data on/off
- It detects if 2g/3g/4g is on as well
What's the difference between this and tons of applications out there that turns off the automatically turns off the data when the screen is off?
- I have unlimited internet bandwidth on my phone but limited battery life. I rely on the internet for my instant messaging and work emails. If I use one of those applications that turns off the data when the screen is off, then technically I wont be able to receive those emails until I turn on the screen. That's how the idea of creating Auto Data came from. Basically I want to be able to receive messages while the screen is off without heavy battery usage.
- As I have yet to do actual field testing I'm not sure if it will extend or drain the battery! - Well at least that was my idea
Why Create This App?
- I'm looking for a way to extend battery life of my phone (HTC ONE X) without me having to turn on and off the mobile data manually since I have unlimited mobile data but limited battery life
- I want to learn how to program even the simplest things on Android for my own use
Bugs?
- You tell me
How Can You Help?
- I need testers to test the app. I have a little programming background knowledge but I know logic, so don't expect too much if you have suggestions / comments or if you find bugs.
- I need good icons that I can use for the app (any graphic artists out there?)
Not working?
This application requires that Mobile Data is initially turned "on" in Android System Settings to make it work.
Battery Still Draining Fast?
If you flashed a new ROM, you have to give it a few charge cycles in order for the battery to normalized and be calibrated. Usually, 3 - 4 full charge cycles before you'd notice the difference.
Donate Version
If you like Auto Data and would like to help out, you can consider donating. By donating you get the full features of Auto Data unlocked.
Donation can only be done through PayPal at the moment, as Google Checkout doesn't support the country where Im at so until Google Checkout supports comes, no choice but to use PayPal (Sorry about that).
There are 3 ways to donate, 1 is from the app itself, you can click "Donate" button. 2 is from XDA you can click "Donate to Me" button under my username, 3 you can manually enter my PayPal email which is "[email protected]"
Once you have donated, kindly send me an Email with your PayPal confirmation code and I will send you a APK that will unlock Auto Data.
Kindly allow me up to 48 hours to send you the APK file that unlocks AutoData, I have to send you the APK manually and due to time zone differences I cannot promise that I can send it immediately, but I will ASAP!
Donation Amount?
Any amount is appreciated. I do not put a minimum limit to donation. It's a donation so what ever you feel like then its fine!
Thanks for considering donating!
Disclaimer
- By installing and trying this application, I take no responsibility on what it does to your phone. Please use this at your own risk! If you do not accept this then please don't try this application.
- As this application has been developed for my own use since I have unlimited mobile data, if you do not have unlimited mobile data then I suggest you do not use this application since it automatically turns on and turns off your mobile data.
PS: Again, I have to do actual testing to determine if it does improve battery life. Would help if others can do testing as well.

guys bug found...
The application turns off while the screen is off. I will fix it and will send out a new update ASAP (Sorry)
Great idea man, like your thinking.
Few ideas for your app.
- Adding data on interval settings 5mins / 10mins / 20mins / 30mins
- Option to remove Status bar icons, too many apps have these and they clutter up the notification tray and some are ugly and ruin peoples UI's that they have spent time building. ( I my self run Slimmed down ICS, no System tray App notifications but core systems ones and i avoid coloured icons at all costs )
I see your a clean theme man your self :-D
- Profile so that during set hours it switches on WIFI, so people who work 9till5 can save data during work hours but not have to worry when home because they can connect to their home wifi using a set time. So data saving mode is enabled from 8am till 6:30pm outside these hours its switched off and wifi is enabled ?

Thanks for your suggestions.
I'm rewriting the whole program again since it got too complicated which caused the program not to work.
I already have a very early stage working. Doing the test now.
Adding interval settings is a good idea, I just hope it works since Android has deep sleep.
Option to remove the status bar icons = Okay I will include this
Profiles to set hours to switch over WIFI = okay I will see what I can do

Sounds good, let me know if you'd like me to do some testing.
Im always away with my phone so I can do extensive testing while at work.
nice idea, but what i would like to see is something like Auto3G for iOS;
http://modmyi.com/cydia/package.php?id=28562
basically, it switches to 2G when the screen is off, and back on when the screen is on; or you can set if the phone is connected to charger, say on 3G at all times..really useful!

if you turn off 3G when the screen is off then you wont be able to receive push emails / gtalk messages right?
If I can be of any assistance I am here to do so. I would love to try this out and post my results.

they can work on edge
Edit: you can also provide a white list option, for some apps, so that they always use 3g no matter what
On my fascinate with aokp m6, even when the screen is on, it turns the data off. It not always happen, but its randoms. After that i should manually turn on the data.

[Q] How to Get Amazing Battery Life

Hey everyone,
Lately I've been in the works of trying to get better battery life, as I only get about 2 - 2.5 hours of on screen time. I've seen other users get anywhere between 5-7 hours. I do use facebook, and have uninstalled the official facebook app for the friendcaster one, but have yet to still hit anywhere near that amount of time.
Out of curiosity, and hopefully future reference for other users, what are some great ways to boost battery life? Do you use apps? Uninstall software? Please, do share!

Manually controlling screen brightness was the biggest increase for me. The other one that helped was 2g data when i turn off the screen.
Freeeeze apps with Titanium Backup. You wont miss anything neither you loose perfomance, no you gain.

Change notification updates to suit your needs. Stuff that you don't need to know right away, lower frequency or turn to manual. For instance:
- Change weather updates to every 1-2 hours, unless you really need to know that it changed by a couple degrees as it does.
- Decrease facebook notifications (big one. If you use it a lot, then keep it high, but realize that this WILL drain battery.)
- Manually update stocks (again, if you don't need them instantaneously)
- Blog & News apps usually set notifications on by default, disable or lower frequency on them
- Lower screen brightness
- Turn display to auto sleep 30sec-1min tops
Note that while some of the notification controls can be found within the system settings, many apps will require you to go to their individual settings to adjust them.
All depends what you do with it. Navigation, internet, talk time and intense games all suck up more battery. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do that stuff, but it's just the way it is on any device.
Simple, root and install CPU sleeper, that should give u a lot of battery life.. at least that's how I do it and today I unplugged my phone at 10 am and its 9:25 and I have 65% left

Almost all of em are running on custom roms I beat and I'm the one you said that with 5 - 7 hours screen time everyday. There are many things to do to maximum the battery performance and first thing is root and unlock your phone and flash a custom rom. If you are on stock rom, it would be almost a no go.
1. Flash ViperOneS 1.2 rom or One maximuS V2.5 rom, they are the best sense based rom with the greatest battery performance I've seen.
2. If you don't need sense, flash cm10 or aokp. They should give you more battery because they aren't as resources hog as sense. However, you couldn't use sense UI and access to the dedicated image chip in camera.
3. Turn the brightness level down to as low as possible, this is the major battery killer.
4. Switch to 2G when you are in standby mode. Disable fast dormancy, it will save you battery in standby mode at the cost of connection speed when you surf web it will be slower but it does save you some battery in standby status. You can disable it in ViperOneS's tweaking but you'll have to do it manually in all other roms but that is very very easy. Personally, I let it on because the 3G speed isn't good in Hong Kong, too many iphone/android everywhere here, over crowed. In every street in HK are messed up by SGS3/Note/Note2/Iphone, think about how horrible it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684604
5. Turn off wifi when you don't use it, disable max performance in wifi setting. Turn the auto-sync off when you don't need it too.
6. Just remove all apps and bloatware you don't want. When you flash ViperOneS/maximuS 's add-on, you will have a list to do it.
7. Some bloatware will still be there after flash the add-on. You have to download systemapp remover to del those apps.
8. Some apps like to run as services mode and they drain battery in background like youtube, google map, playstore. You need to download AutoStarts and force them to disable as an auto-startup services after bootup.
9. Download Systempanel and check any non-system apps running at services mode in background. Force them stop in control panel. I only have four non-system apps let them running as services like whatsapp.
10. Don't run too many widgets, I only have two widgets on. Don't use 3D wallpaper.
11. Use opera mobile to surf web. The stock browser and chrome should faster but sometimes they drain battery real quick.
12. Turn the cpu mhz down when you are just doing some normal/easy works because the stock kernel has very suck governor performance(only ages governor: on-demand, save battery, max performance) and drains battery fast. Turn the cpu mhz back to high level only when you play games, this will save you great battery. Don't worry S4 CPU is still very powerful even you set it to half speed. You can flash custom kernel if you don't like to turn cpu speed up/down, they introduce more efficiency governors to handle it automatically but all 3rd kernels are likely to have some bugs at this time. There aren't many active developers out there.
13. After a heavy or long using like a full battery cycle, reboot the OS to clean up the cache/memory leak.
14. Use nova launcher or apex launcher to replace the sense launcher.
Well, I basically do ALL the stuffs above and got 5 ~ 7hrs screen time. Today, I do surf the web like mad(4hrs), 1hr 720p movie(software decode in MX Player as it's a rmvb movie), 30mins+ music with poweramp. Guess what? I got exactly 5hrs screen time and 1% battery left when I get back to home, very lucky though. I think my usage is a bit high today, normally I have 6hrs screen time average.
A lot of people on stock ROMs can get that sort of battery life too.
This is mine on stock:

Disable any apps that you don't need in settings>apps>click on app>disable at top right
Don't have weather etc. syncing every 30 minutes etc. set to something like 2 or 3 hours.
Manually control the screen brightness as auto makes the battery life worse, install qbright from the market and set a gesture so when you swipe up or down on the homescreen or dock icons this app is opened like the below:

I have it set to currently; night is 0%, indoor 30%, outdoor 50% and sunshine 70%
Keep wifi on as much as possible and set to never sleep
Keep GSM mode selected instead of WCDMA in mobile network settings as one; the voice reception is stronger and better battery life even when connected to wifi I found.
If you aren't going to be using any internet at all for quite while (meaning no need for weather, emails to sync etc.) then turn wifi and mobile network data off.
Only enable WCDMA when you want to browse or stream something (only when wifi is not possible)
Don't use any form of a task killer, if an app isn't responding just use the built in one.

WOW! Thanks guys! I'll definitely be trying these tips today.
Lets keep'em coming!
I'm running CM10 and all I did was lower my CPU clock to 1134 and I get great battery life. I also try to keep my wifi off as often as possible. I have auto-brightness and auto-sync on and usually get 6-7 hours and don't have to charge it all day. I prefer being able to use the better governers on top of the decreased frequency, but I haven't been able to get the Fusion AOSP kernel working on CM10 for quite some time.

I've always thought about under-clocking my CPU. I'll give that a try too. I'm sure i don't need the full 1.5ghz. I'll play around with them and see which will fit my needs .
My battery lasts twice as much just by turning the mobile internet off. I turn it on only when I need to surf the web/sync my apps and turn it back off right after.:victory:
Change governor to smartass2 and set your max CPU frequency at 1ghz. Also you can install app called llama for profiles switching and battery saving.

Share with others tricks used to extend battery life.
Tricks known to me:
1.Reduce your Screen Brightness
Display uses about 5-80% of battery usually. Reducing the brightness helps to increase the battery life a lot. To do so goto Settings->Display->Brightness
- Automatic brightness is good but lead to higher consumption of battery. Close brightness automatic and set brightness low.
2.Disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC
Even though Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth are designed for low-power consumption, they drain the battery. Most of the 2012 android devices have a unique feature known as NFC (Near Field Communion) such as i9070p. This feature enables a sensor field around the handset and is used for sharing. This also drains the battery unnecessarily. So it’s better to turn off the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFCs when it’s not in use.
- Deactivate Wi-Fi when not needed
- If you do not use the Bluetooth function, disable it.
- If you do not use the NFC function, disable it.
- If you do not surf the internet stop any data connection
- As long as you do not use GPS and/or location services, close them.
3. Prefer Wi-Fi rather than GPRS
It may be weird that the GPRS consumes more power when compared to Wi-Fi. For example, Wi-Fi consumes 5% charge; the GPRS connection consumes 15% charge. This may not be seen while viewing websites but in case of watching a video in YouTube or making a call in a VoIP service, it drains the battery at a rapid rate. So it’s better to use Wi-Fi to watch videos or making calls.
.- Wi-Fi network consumes less than 3G connection, it is recommended to use Wi-Fi
4. Avoid Live Wallpaper
The live wallpaper drains the battery to a considerable rate. So it’s better to use static wallpapers rather than the live wallpaper. Also use images which contain black color because the LED screens use less power to display black than displaying white. Doing this helps to increase the battery life up to 10%.
-Use a dark background, save battery. Light backgrounds need more battery.
5.Disable Data traffic
Many applications use data traffic in the background letting this phone to sleep. Some of the apps which use the background data traffic are GMail, Whatsapp, Facebook, Viber, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Play, etc. These apps checks for the updates and for incoming messages all time. So it’s better to disable the background data traffic.
- Network 2G network consumes less than , it is recommended to use 2G connection
- If you do not surf the internet stop any data connection.
6. Disable Auto-Sync
This option comes under the background data traffic. This feature checks for the mail all the time. Which means you will be able to get the mail in your handset as soon as the mail arrives. But this service uses a considerable amount of battery
- Upload and sync only on Wi-Fi. Or stop sync on all accounts.
7.Do not use more widgets
- The more the widgets, more the RAM, more the battery will be drained.
- Dump the widgets
8.Disable Adobe Flash
Adobe Flash enables to watch videos in websites but it drains the battery a lot. The main reason why adobe discontinued its service from android 4.1 is this battery problem.
9.Turn OFF vibrations
The smartphones makes use of some energy to make a vibration, but when “Vibration on Key press” is enabled, while typing a word the phone produces more number of vibrations. It consumes more battery. So it’s better to disable this feature in the keyboard settings.
- Vibration consume energy. A low intensity vibration or even disable as reduce battery consumption.
- Disable Haptic feedback.
10. Power saving mode
If you use your device constantly throughout the day, you may want to consider using your device’s power saving mode. In fact, many of the tips suggested in this post are implemented in most devices’ power saving mode. For instance, power saving mode usually limits CPU use, reduces screen brightness, deactivates haptic feedback, disables data network when the screen is asleep, and lowers the brightness level of the browser’s background color.
The generally recommended advice is to disable power saving mode when you intend to use your phone’s smartphone features; otherwise, turning power saving off can help you stretch your battery life further. So, for instance, you might want to disable power saving mode if you plan to play games on your phone, or else you could experience lag or jitter.
11. Do not try to overcharge
Normally the smartphone charges up in 1-2 hours. But if you charge it throughout the day, it lowers the life-time of the battery. Check the condition of the battery often to have a good battery life.
12.Reduce screen timeout
- Screen timeout should be as low as when not using this device to enter sleep mode. (15s)
- Sensitive buttons should be as little heated. (1,5s)
13. Uninstall unnecessary apps
You can never be too sure what's running itself in the background, what with all the multi-tasking, self-uploading, auto-replicating features in today's modern Android apps, so at least minimise the chances of something randomly hoovering up all your battery by constantly trying to connect to some non-existent server, by deleting any unused or old apps. Some apps are resource-intensive — either by nature (as in the case of games) or by developer incompetence or negligence (as in the case of poorly written apps).
14.Never leave applications open
- Never leave applications open in the background for long time. Set the limit to 1 or 2
15.To root or not
Rooting may have drawbacks but the benefits far outweigh them. One attractive advantage of rooting is that of possibly improving your device’s battery life.
16. Debloating
Rooting itself won’t lengthen your battery life. Rooting merely opens the gates to your device’s restricted partitions and directories. With such restriction gone, you can remove useless apps (e.g., bloatware from carriers or OEMs), especially those that run as background services, wasting away precious battery power.
17.CPU underclocking
With root access on your device, you can also install apps that can improve your system’s performance. A CPU controller app, for instance. Three names instantly spring to mind: SetCPU for Root Users, No-frills CPU Control, and CPU Tuner.
Apps like these essentially allow you to tweak the CPU settings on your device. You can set the CPU frequency to stay at the lowest (and, as a result, use up the least power but sacrifice device performance) or to stretch the CPU to its maximum limits (resulting in better and faster performance, but at the price of heat, quick battery drain, and potential system instability).
Be careful when using such apps. There are risks involved; for example, your device could behave erratically when its CPU clock is set higher than usual.
18. Custom kernels and ROMS
As we have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery in the process of rooting. Many custom kernels and custom ROMs. Feel free to look around XDA for guides on how to flash custom kernels or custom ROMs to your particular device.
Battery life is one of the biggest issues in the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9070 Advance. Take your SIM card out, turn off Wi-Fi and never touch it and it'll sit there happily, lasting for a whole week on one charge. But try to use it for anything "smart" and, well, that's where the problems start.
...and keep it cool
Batteries work best in cooler temperatures, with prolonged warm periods gradually lowering their efficiency over time. Putting your phone in a looser pocket might help, or perhaps just gently fanning it while it charges. That might not be the best use of your working day, but at least you'll still be able to get on Twitter on the train home.
YouTube Video:
http://youtu.be/shApI37Tw3w
The two attached images show the effect of these methods.16 hours with only 2G/3G connection for 1 hour, listen to music 15 minutes, talking on the phone 12 minutes, 10 messages, 1 hour and 40 minutes gaming and others. I left with 22% battery. To me now is night, which means the phone will remain at rest for several hours, and the battery life will reach one day to several hours.

Without a data connection active, our devices are basically 2G network. 2G connectivity is needed for calls, messages, etc.. Theoretically should consume less than a Wi-Fi network.
I may be wrong, waiting for other opinions. Thanks!
You have got a few wrong..
I do not respond to tech support via PM
It is my understanding that:
- If you are downloading//uploading data, 3G consumes more battery than WIFI (upload also consumes more than download)
- Idle: WIFI consumes more battery than 3G
Always a good idea to disable Haptic feedback aswell.
Keeping the phone always on Power saving mode is a good idea ?
Coz without that my phone battery wont last any long! in power saving it goes approx 15 hours including around 7 hours of deep sleep!

I'm sorry, but if this is the way you want to use a smart phone, why do you even have one?
Disabling all the connections makes the whole phone quite useless.
My opinion: grab your charger and enjoy or throw your phone out of the window and buy an old school Nokia.

I have to agree with you, disabling syncs or 3G connection absolutely defeats the purpose of having a smartphone. I do all the other stuff to preserve battery, i even have an all-black wallpaper.
You can space out some app syncing (facebook syncs for example and lots of apps can be configured to sync at specific intervals) to get a middle-ground solution.

I've disabled the following:
Bluetooth (if I need it I switch it on)
Haptic Feedback
GPS
Uninstalled bloatware with Titanium Backup (it helps, bc many unnecessary apps stay online and consumes both memory and power)
Installed Juice Defender Ultimate (auto disables Wi-Fi, BT, mobile data and enables sync at a certain time interval when you don't use the phone)
Use Mobile Data only when Wi-Fi is unavailable
Enable Power Save.

MAXIMIZE the Battery Life of your Note 3 (Fix to Battery Drain issue)

Firstly, I want to say that this thread is based on the Exynos Note 3, not because it will work only for that device, but because it is the device I own at the time of this OP. HOWEVER, I can assure you that the tips in the second part of this guide, tagged 'IMPORTANT TIPS', would go for just about ANY device running android as the effects are similar. Now... Read On!
Since the MJ7 update was released, some Note 3 users have been experiencing weird battery drain issues, the MK2 update was also released and it didn't seem to fix it either.
While some users say a factory reset did fix their battery drain issues, many still have it after doing the factory reset, Me being an example.
I think the main problem is that the phone doesn't go into deep sleep.
So, I took sometime to research a fix and couldn't find a really solid fix, so I decided to go for the Next Best Thing, tweaks/settings.
Tweaking the phone in such a way that you maximize your battery use is what I will write about in this thread.
After tweaking my phone, I was able to hit 9hrs 30mins screen time with a total time of just over 1 day (24hrs), WiFi on ALL through. Not much Voice call time however.
On Mobile data, the tweaks won't give you this much time but still expect about 5 to hrs screen time.
How did I achieve this? That's what I will share below. But before I do, I will like to say that I have the Exynos Note 3 and this might be somehow targetted to that device (mentioned this earlier). However, if you have a Snapdragon Note 3 or any other Android device for that matter, I'm sure one or two things from this post will be helpful to you.
I will also say that 'Root' is quite important for some of the tips. If you are not rooted, you can just apply the ones that don't need root.
And For Non-Root users, Freezing App in TB can also be done manually to some apps by going into Settings > General > Application manager > All. Then scroll to the app you want to disable say Maps which is a HUGE battery drainer as i will mention below, select it then click the button at the left top which says 'Disable', I think it says 'Turn Off' in KitKat.
1. Factory Reset: I think the first thing to do first is Factory reset your phone, just maybe! That might work for you. You can also skip this step as factory reset is alot of work and might not be worth the stress in the end. But, I think a fresh start is always good once in a while NOTE: Backup your Internal SD to your PC or another flash media device FIRST if you decide to factory reset!
THE MAIN PART
=======================================================================================================
2. Kernel: Download a good Custom Kernel that also has the 'ondemand' governor. For Exynos Users, I recommend goodHanrry-kernel v2.0A (Used in first test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569056
NOTE that this is still a JellyBean 4.3 ONLY kernel till date
OR
halaszk-UNIVERSAL5420 v0.6A (used in Second Test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590320
I recommend v0.6A for Jelly Bean and v0.14B for KitKat or the latest Test for urself
Snapdragon users should try the ones they have too.. I'm sure they have some good kernels, like Perseus kernel but again i have Exynos Note 3 so try it for yourself.
3. Kernel Governor: Download SetCPU (paid) from here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking
Go into SetCPU and change the Governor at the bottom left of the page there to 'on demand', then tick the 'set on boot' option in the middle so it will be applied after everyboot.
What the Governor 'ondemand' does is the CPU ramps up only when you actually need it. Hence the name Which also means that 'even if' you don't get good deep sleep, your CPU will stay at the lowest frequency, Saving you battery!
============================================================================================================
IMPORTANT TIPS
============================================================================================================
4. Greenify: EVERY rooted user must have Greenify! It's a fantastic app! It hibernates apps that you are not using so they never get to use your battery, yet the apps are available whenever you need them. No stress!
Download Greenify here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify (I bought the paid version as it has more fuctions)
For those who don't know greenify or how to use it, it's simple! Only Greenify those apps you don't rely on for Push Notifications.
For example, don't greenify apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Twitter, BBM if you expect to get notifications from them in the background.
Feel free to Greenify other apps like your games, adobe reader, dictionary, and the rest of them as you don't receive notifications from.
Starting from Greenify v2.0, even None Rooted users will be able to use Greenify Just without the option of Automatic hibernate, however.. It's still Great!
TIP: If you are a Non-Root Greenify user, I will highly recommend that you put the 'Hibernate Now' widget on ur homescreen so that you have one-touch hibernation. Just tap it before you lock ur screen or at anytime really. I'm a Rooted user and I made it a habit already! Tap then lock screen
Greenify is a FANTASTIC app!
5. Power Saving Mode: Use the Power Saving mode for as long as you can, I use Power Saving all the time. What this does is throttle ur CPU down to 1.4GHz (Exynos Note 3),
lower frequency naturally means more battery. The Note 3 is a pretty powerful device, so I even play games on Power Saving mode without issues. But if you feel you need that extra oomph!, then you can put it off before you play your games and turn back on later. For the more advanced users, you can make these more dynamic changes with apps like SetCPU or CPU Tuner.
6. Screen/Brightness: As we all know, normally the screen consumes the most power so if you can manage ur screen properly, u can get some extra juice. My advice on brightness is set to 'Auto -5'. However it is fine to use any other Value from -5 to 5 as you like it. Then you can set to a timeout range of 30s. Try to avoid using live wallpapers as it uses the GPU for the animations also AMOLED screens save more battery when you use dark wallpapers. Do that if you love dark wallpapers
7. GPS/Maps: Now, GPS is like the Number One drainer of battery and many many people don't know this. Here is what you do, pull down your notification bar, long press GPS there then make sure everything under GPS is turned off always! Leave turned off unless you need to use GPS.
Maps is also another app that drains battery in the background, I don't use maps at all, so I keep it frozen all the time using Titanium Backup.
But if you use maps, my advice is that you open up TitaniumBackup, look for maps on the list of apps, long press it and then convert to User app. Now u can Greenify it and it will still be available whenever you need it.
8. Google Now / Google+: Google now does drain battery, if you don't use Google Now, turn it off. Go into Google now, enter settings and turn off. I keep my Google now frozen as I never use it anyways. If I ever need to, I will unfreeze it. If you successfully handle numbers 7 and 8, you will not have issues with Google Services drain anymore! Unless you go traveling alot
Google+ is one app that drains alot of battery, if you do not use it much or don't need it at all, my advice is that you handle it. Greenify it or better still, Get rid of it.
9. Sounds/Vibration: Maybe not really a big deal, but those keypad/touch sounds do drain battery. It's fine to leave them on if you like em, but if you can do without, then do! Especially Haptic Feedback! Settings > Device > Sound. You will get the option there to turn them off. Including keyboard sounds and vibration
10. De-bloat: Samsung always loads alot of bloatware on their phones, the more the bloat, the more the apps running in the backgroud, the more the RAM consumed and in turn, the more the battery used! If you can, go into Titanium Backup and freeze as many bloatware as you are familiar with, don't touch anything you don't know. Lol. I always debloat any ROM I flash, so i'm quite familiar with the process. Anyways, just a heads up! If you freeze 'Magazines' for some reason your Stock Email app will crash whenever you try to open a new email or clear emails from the notification bar. Gmail app will work good, i decided to mention as my main email address is Yahoomail.
11. Reception: Believe it or not, reception is VERY IMPORTANT when it comes to battery life saving. If you have good reception, then it's smooth sailing and good battery, but if your reception isn't good then your phone is always always trying to reconnect your apps and services to the internet, over and over and over again! Trust me, this can take a serious Toll on your battery. If you notice my screenshots below, I have near 'PERFECT' reception. Notice the green Network mobile signal area in Graph. No blemish!
Here is how: Well, since i'm always on WiFi (have a pocket router).. I never need the '3G/HSPA' reception, so I set my phone to GSM/2G Only (Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks then change Network mode to GSM Only). I'm using Exynos Note 3, so I don't have LTE, but if you are Snapdragon user with LTE, You can set to either just 3G Only as that should still be more stable than 4G/LTE, you can still set as above too, afterall you won't be needing the LTE connection when on WiFi.
All I said right now about Reception was complicated yes?
This App makes it simple - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-intelli3g-2g-3g-4g-toggle-battery-t2580234
Haha!
Finally, I use Nova launcher now as I have frozen Touchwiz launcher. Nova launcher is fast, plus i LOVE me them Stock KitKat icons And I feel Touchwiz Launcher on MJ7 and MK2 does drain battery much.
(DO NOT FREEZE TOUCHWIZ LAUNCHER IF YOU DON'T HAVE A 3RD PARTY LAUNCHER INSTALLED! YOU WERE WARNED!) You will get Force Close unending
Having written all these, I know some of you will want to come on here and crucify me, because you disagree with one thing or another. But the thing is... I'm only trying to help, and this works for me! I only 'HOPE' it will help as many people as possible enjoy their phone even more
Here are screenshots of my Battery Stats, maybe they will convince you to try one or two things out You will notice that BBM still drains a chunk of my battery, but I can't do without BBM And Nova drains less than TW was.
CHEERS GUYS!

Pretty good post OP. I have already given some of these a shot. I'm unrooted. Rooted my note 2. Still unsure about the 3 as there isn't as much information on it.

I also think having perfect signal the entire time plays a large effect as well.

Yes! Bad signal can actually drain more battery. As applications dat need internet keep trying to reconnect.
I averaged 9hrs 32mins screentime with stock phone Not rooted and no special apps. Wifi the entire time with a Sprint note 3. Its all about your signal. The better quality signal the better battery life you will get. You can flash the latest and greatest roms and kernels but if you have a poor signal you will have poor battery life.

Actually, battery life depends on sooooo many things, signal, ROM, kernel (in some cases), apps installed, apps running in background, GPS use, screen settings, even down to little details like wallpaper funny enough lol. I believe I can think of a lot of stuff, however! Very true! Poor signal will also drain battery, out of experience I speak.
Afterall, My battery has sat at 100% for 9 whole hours on Airplane mode!
Yes you are right Google now drains a lot..!! I thought it was only me he he.. Even in airplane mode it drains .. Unbelievable.. Last night I just put it on vibrate and it didn't drain anything... last three days it drained 3% in 5 hrs in airplane.
Thanks for your advices man..

GO into Nova settings, then select Look and Feel. Then Icon Theme. Change from default to Google KitKat. Enjoy!
Why not just buy a new battery when it's wasted?

Battery is not bad, ROM bases are not too good. Mobile data drains A WHOLE lot than WiFi.
Snapdragon
Root
no tweaks / no kernel change
But only 3 hours screen on time
you can also buy yourself a Samsung Note 3 extra battery kit
you can charge that battery in the kit itself.. you'll have 2 batteries with 100%
it only costs 30euro / 41 dollar
Nice little post there!
Some obvious, but some pretty good tips. :good:

It seems 'Google Play Services' owns your device and not you! Disable GPS, Google Now and Maps if you don't use it and see that you will get ALOT better battery life

Lol. Yes. When I was writing it, i wanted everybody to understand it. Even someone who is using Android for the first time ever!
@stanley08 , I never did a factory reset on a droid b4, so how do I do it, what will I lose & how do I backup, though my concern with backup is I might reload some battery hogging data or settings which would result in waste of time & screwing around with a already set up phone.

This is the Wise thing to do. Do whatever backup you want to do, Titanium Backup, SMS backup, Call logs backup, Nandroid Backup, and any other backup you want to do. Then Create 2 folders on your PC. Name the first one Internal Sd and the Second one External SD.
Then connect phone to pc and open up ur internal sd, highlight all and copy to the folder on ur pc names Internal. Do the same for external sd, but this time... Copy your external sd contents to the other folder you named external sd. That is IF you have/use an external sd. For me, it is pretty convenient to backup my external sd as it is a 16GB one and only about half full at all times.
NOTE: Wipe data/Factory reset in Custom Recovery like CWM will NOT delete your files on the internal sd of your phone. It will only remove your installed apps and reset ur settings...
But wiping from STOCK SAMSUNG recovery will do the above and ALSO wipe your internal sd clean. And that is what is called hard format. Or hard reset or factory reset.
I advice that copying data to your pc should be the LAST thing you do before wiping anything. This way, you will be certain that everything you backed up is safe as they are either on ur Internal sd or external sd. CHEERS!
After reading all battery issues I have refrained from updating my phone. I am still on M900XXUBMI5 should I not update if the update has so much issues?
