[Q] Settings App 2.1 Download Anywhere? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I'm using an AT&T HTC Aria, which for SOME reason doesn't have the non-market apps choice in the menu, so I'm looking for the default stock settings.apk app.
I can't seem to figure out how to move files to and from my computer and my phone, so if anybody could tell me how to do that, that would be great, too.
Thanks.

REQUEST Desire ROM

is it possible to push STOCK Contact and Gallery APPS to the desire ROM? i have the KingXKxNexus Desire ROM but i would like the stock contacts app as well as the gallery as they run much quicker and are really smooth
so would it be possible for me to replace them with the stock ones?
also, can someone create a launcher for desire roms that would replace the "add widget" button by either contacts or web browser?
lastly, i've searched all over this forum, but i havent found any transparent notification bars for desire roms, are there any? or can some be made?
i know that you can push the 3dgallery apk , just find it here on the forums... also i know that with modaco's you can bake your desire rom with the default contacts... i was using alpha 10 with the default messaging and contacts and it was sweet.
how do you do that?
What's the advanced command to do so?
Also, where can i find the gallery messaging and contact apk?
Will I also be able to uninstall the HTC apparently like contacts etc? Customer I don't want to have 2 contacts app
does anyone know how i can push stock android apps like contacts and messaging to Desire ROMS so they'll get replaced?

you can just adb push and push the .apk files no need to replace they can coexist.
i know its possible for them to coexist, but i'd prefer to only have 1. (the stock)
do you think it would be possible?

Stock Contacts/Dialer

Does anyone know where I can find the stock 2.1 Contacts and Dialer .apk's?
Are these even possible to install as .apks? I'm trying to get my phone to as close as stock as possible without rooting. Thanks
i am very interested in this as well, but i think we'll have to wait for root or mods to get the stock dialer, contacts list, sms app and keyboard...
i'm afraid there's only a few of us who /don't/ want the HTC modifications to Android on our phones...
If anyone finds these I'd also like them. The HTC sense ones leave out too many options and replace them with fancy icons.
Add me to the list.

just adding my 2cents.. i would love to have the stock android dialer from nexus/moto droid please.
Bump...
Is there any reason the n1 dialer, contacts and sms app can't be ported/installed on the incredible?
We've gotten a few things, clock, gallery, etc...

They depend on the stock framework and without root , they cannot be installed. I'm pretty sure that if you try to install them it'll tell that the application already exists.
ok, i was wondering if there was something prohibiting the install... thank you for the update.
bump, now that we have root, has anyone had success getting a stock mms.apk, contacts.apk or phone.apk installed?
without removing phone.apk and mms.apk from the device, contacts.apk is the only one from the n1 dump that will /attempt/ to install, but it fails.
i assume, once the stock phone.apk and mms.apk are removed, the n1 mms.apk and phone.apk will also fail to install, so something needs to be modified, but i don't know much about all of this yet, i imagine i will learn a lot, as roms are released and kitchens, etc...
but if anyone has ability, and wants to take a whack at it, or point us in the right direction for learning what we need to do, please let us know...
otherwise, i suppose we wait for a vanilla rom to come out... here's hoping the nand flash is hacked soon...
You cannot "install" those sorts of apks. You simply have to copy, move or push them into the folder with rw access. It just overwrites the old file and then it will function if it can. If you overwrite the apk with an incompatible one, you will probably crash your phone. You also have to be careful because a lot of applications are dependent on each other.
To remove Sense means removing about 90 applications since they all depend on each other. If you do not remove them all, you will have compatibility problems and a lot of fc's and possibly boot loops. You also have to make sure you have replacements for most of them. Then there is the whole framework issue. Our phones are built and configured to work with Sense and the htc framework. You could probably manage to remove most but not everything without messing up your phone. Since we do not have a way to do a nand backup yet, I would just sit tight.
If you want a phone without any residual bits of Sense, you will want a Cyanogen based ROM. It has no Sense whatsoever.
For now, there are a few good apps in the Market for free that can act as replacements for most things like your contacts, launcher and mms.
If you want to do an easy Sense removing mod that requires root, just search for removing the htc lock screen. It is very easy and will give you the standard Android lock screen with the tab unlock feature. You will, however, lose the music player and notifications on the lock screen that htc has programmed in.

I actually like the stock android dialer as well, bump!
Me three!!!
Is it like the htc sense lock screen where you just change the name/move/remove the htc lock screen apk and the stock android lock screen comes up?

Nvm it doesn't work, wishful thinking on my part I guess...or I couldn't get it to work anyway...which isn't saying much...

You can't use the native android dialer becasue the HTC dialer is intergrated in the OS so you can't replace it.
but couldn't you just install the apk and then when hitting the phone button it would give the option of which to use? much like the 3g gallery apk. or is that different because the one is a system app and the other isn't?.. I only ask because I would love to do the same to my DInc.

Hey all, I am new here and Andriod newbie, but learning quickly ...
(I originally bumped this post because of same question, but after I did more and more research I finally realized a full ROM swap is the only way... I wanted to leave this post for other's with the same question that search and run across this thread... THANKS XDA !!!)
(Original post):
The "stock" Android dialer is all I want. Basically, I dont have to "replace" the HTC dialer but I want a different dialer available, and I like the Native android froyo one ...
So, I installed the 2.2 froyo SDK (which conains the basic stock dialer) and used command line abd root to pull Phone.apk from the package. I then copied it to my (Rooted) device and tried running it. I get the error:
com.android.phone, activity not found.
Obviously, that didnt work... So Im assuming like you said, its also integrated into the OS, so the entire ROM would be needed.
(Update / edited post)
No, there is not 'easy market dialer app' that replaces your phone application... Maybe the dialer front, but not the phone.
There are many cool ROMS floating around with better dialers. Read, read, read, do your research, and take the dive.

New Google apps

Droid Life had leaks for the new Google apps like music, clock, etc that are all honeycomb style but work on our phones. I installed all of them except Desk Clock which wouldnt install and the new gallery app always force closes. Camera works but when turning it to camcorder it FC's. Music app works fine but I heard landscape has a few problems and you also cant sync your Google account. None of these apps replace your current stock apps. I found this file in the Nexus One forums btw.
Make a zip file. I'm on my phone and I don't feel like downloading a unrar file explorer.
Sent from a delicious CDMA HTC Hero baked with Gingerbread covered in honey......mmmmm.....
How do you install these? I am getting an error that says "There is a problem parsing the package".
Did you download them from your phone or from a computer?

Root, ICS Keyboard and Emojin??

I just got the phone 2 days ago and have been browsing around for answers and come up with very little....
First off, if I were to do the root, unlock bootloader, etc., am I still only limited to ROMs specificially for the AT&T phone or can I use ARHD for example from the other forum?
Second, is there any way to use the real ICS keyboard instead of HTC's or one off the market? I had a galaxy nexus and really like that one. I am currently using a copy from a while ago from the market and its not as good.
Third, I like the revamped messaging app, but doesn't have the emojin support. Was wondering if there was anything on the market besides GOSMS or Handcent, etc. that could allow that with the stock messaging app.
Appreciate your time and thanks in advance

I also came from a gnex, and love the stock ICS keyboard. The easiest way to safely get it for free is to download one of the latest CM9 nightlies from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly
Then open the zip, go to system/app, and copy LatinIME.apk out. Put it on your one x and install it. You'll then have to go into settings->language/keyboard, and enable the keyboard.
After that, go to any text field on your phone (like your browser's URL bar), make the HTC keyboard pop up, then drag down your notification bar and you'll see the switch keyboard notification.
No root required, nice and safe.
That is an awesome trick lol...Do you have any other apk suggestions I can use from the CM build?
It works perfectly! Thanks again

I haven't felt the need for anything else from my gnex, so I didn't attempt to use any other apks. I know a few people were requesting the stock sms and dialer, but you really need to be careful pulling system/app apks out, since there could be dependencies.

Anyone else for the emojin question? I found the answer to the first one.
Thanks
