[Q] Working headphone adapters - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

i have the akg k370 whcih dont work with my SGS, since the order of the pins is differend (mic and ground are switched).
since i love that headset im looking for a working adaptor
i couldnt find any in the internet
so far i managed to solder my own from an old adapter which didnt use its microphone pin.
but since it looks...lets say...selfcrafted im looking for one that works that u dont have to cut open and change the pins your self (or add a wire as i did)
if u know of any working ones which use all 4 pins and switch ground and mic pls tell me where i can buy em...

Similar issue here. I have Dr. Dre Beats and from what I've found from reading through is that I need to switch the ground/mic wires? I can do this if necessary and can even get a nice job done of it, but wouldn't this break my headset for other phones/players?
Point being a nice adapter would be sweet.

I bought this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290460258359&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Still waiting it gets here.

Surely if the ground connection was different then no standard plugs/phones would work or does the phone dynamically change the ouputs on pins depending on what's plugged in (since it has to support tv out as well)?

got the same ones, they work fine.

those adaptors and the nokia ones work, but they make the cable too long besides considering that the headsets mentioned already has a mic and you add another adaptor mith a mic, its simpler to just have an adaptor that switches the mic and ground terminals around
so what i did is i made this

i took my nokia ad-57 adaptor, cut the wire, cannibalized a female 3.5mm 4pole from some generic adaptor, soldered the wire so that ground from the 3.5male is soldered to the second ring from tip. thus, simply, the female of the adaptor is wired like an iphone compatible, and the male is wired galaxy s compatible.
if you cant be bothered to diy, you can get this http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-354r3m-r2f.htm
but at 18$ plus shipping, i just think it is too expensive, lol

Another adapter. It's the same as yours but is way too expensive too http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-354r3m-r2f.htm
The good thing is that it's premade. No soldering and cutting

damn, that's expensive. but I guess it'll be worth it to make my "expensive" headphones work, lol.

i found one on DX, comes with MIC so you can asnwer the phone and listen without taking out the headphones
waiting for it to arrive and test to see if it's compatible with SGS

I had to stick black tape around my mic button on the headphones I used to use on my iPhone, I kept the same headphones cause they were amazing sound and pricey and didn't want to chuck them away, Didn't realize it would be a problem lol, I want one of these adapters from a Uk store

Ordered an adapter from KVConnection, works like a charm! I think it's worth the price, considering I didn't have the time/tools/parts to make this by myself.

You can say that the adapter is good, perfect, excellent, nice,ok,etc but not worth at all 17$ for wires is pure stealing

I got a blackberry headset from my local street market. The earphones that came with it sound horrible, and the mic is a bit soft. There is no need to change anything however and the button works.
I'm planning on using it with the aux in of my car radio. With computer speakers it seemed to work (no echo). And it works well with a headphone.

Which headphones are you now using? Do they support media playback (next, previous, or volume) controls
I really want to know before I pay for the ripoff adapter from the kvs. Site. Thanks!

What's the deal with the headphone jack?

It seems the world and his dog are conspiring to prevent me enjoying music from my M500, to say nothing of the AD2P ferrago.
OK, so my M500 didn't come with any sort of handsfree kit, mono or otherwise. The goons at the local Orange shop tell me it only comes with a mono earpiece anyway, so no real loss there. I grabbed a cheap adaptor from a local shop, and it works, so long as you don't mind taking the phone out your pocket and whipping out the cable when a call comes in.
Turns out I do mind, so I set about looking for an adaptor with a mic... and find one! Only... it only pipes sound to the left ear! Indeed, all the adaptors I have tried, bring-your-own-headphones or otherwise, will only give me sound in the left ear. What the hell? I was in The Link today and the manager there said he had the same trouble with his Universal (only he has an official headset that works).
At first I thought maybe I'd damaged it somehow, and since there was some other stuff wrong with it I arranged for a replacement from Orange. No joy, this fresh unit behaves just the same. It really seems the only way to get stereo out of it is with a 3-core adaptor. Say it ain't so?
3 cores good:

4 cores bad:
I mean, are HTC wiring the 2.5mm jack differently to everybody else? Or did Orange mess up the case such that the 4-core plug doesn't sit quite in line?
I did get one off expansys, now that I think about it, that I think worked in both ears, but it had horrible speakers and was pretty uncomfortable. Besides, I took it apart to try and attach the plug to my old HPM-70, which sort of worked but, you guessed it, I couldn't get it to play sound in the right ear!
[edit] Whoops, wrong forum! I guess this belongs in accessories rather than upgrading. Perhaps a friendly mod could move it?
Hi Bobgorila,
I received a stereo headset with my TMO device & it works perfectly for all phine functions including adjusting the volume. Downside is the audio quality is horrible. So I switched to a mono BT earpiece for the phone & a decent stereo headphone with conversion jack for music.
Guess ther must be something wrong with your wiring.
M
My HTC Charmer gives me stereo sound with on `4 core` adapter, with mic, which I got from eBay, picture attached.
My unit came with a handfree headset, which is `4 core` and gives stereo sound as well, which is why I'm reluctant to get a `3 core` adapter.
Do you have a link for the one from Ebay?
had a look around but they don't look as "substantial"
Don't worry, found it
thanks
At the mall
My phone came with a 3 core stereo headset which I lost. I bought another 3 core sterio headset designed to work with the Palm Treo 650 which worked fine. I didn't need to hunt online, I just bought it at a cell phone accessory shop at my local mall. The Treo 650 is a very popular handset where I am in Canada and heasets are readily available.
I brought a ghetto 2.5-3.5 jack for $3.50 at a common hardware store.
Works with full sound on both channels on my O2 Mini, with a 3rd party 3.5" earphones that came from an el-cheapo Gemini Card Reader/MP3 player.
Looks rather oversized and gaudy, tho.
Remember that HTC sells only the spec and blueprints. OEMs are free to do whatever they want to the original design (called 'rebranding'). Orange may very well have rewired the thing....
headphone jack
I had problems with this. I noticed that on the 3-pole 2.5 to 3.5mm stereo adapter I got from Maplins the poles don't line up exactly with poles on my original headset. The HTC connector doesn't just have an extra pole for the microphone but each pole is a slightly different width. Using this adapter one channel was shorted unless I pulled the connector out slightly.
Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I will try and post a picture.
I did manage to find a source for 4-pole 2.5mm jack plugs in the UK, I bought a set of Koss earplugs and replace the original connector.
Mark
Just get a sonyericsson P900 stereo earpiece, it works wonder. sound quality is very good.

Hi Guys
I found that making one is easier. Just take your headset, open the mic housing with a knife, remove the headphones and solder a 3.5 jackplug in. In the pics here I used a Touch Dual headset...It has a volume control.

Hi Driskol
This one you are looking at will not work. There are of these adaptors availible for the HTC, But the one in the link you sent has a mini usb plug and not the HTC type...However that is exactly the ones I use to convert the standard headsets.
The standard MiniUSB has all its conections on the wide side of the connector, where the HTC connector has all the audio connections on the narrow side. see pic

he he..I´m very familiar with this procedure since I used Motorola phones for years It was the best way how to make own adapter ´cause I tried 4 stock motorola adapters and no of them worked properly so I did it my way
btw: mini usb from motorola doesn´t work on HTC for audio - it works only for data connection
I just received my order from http://cnn.cn/shop/audio-adapter-ext...ap-p-4118.html

earphone

hey guys, does the soundmagic mp21 mic works with samsung galaxy s? if not, any earphone with mic for recommendation?
thanks.
I hear that the klipsch s2m works for the sgs, but can't confirm it. You can always consider a transformer with mic, that you can use normal 3.5 plug instead of pin

I have Klipsch S2m and it works with my Vibrant so it must work with i9000.
Ow, great. Can you tell your experiens with them. What kind of sound works best for them and build quility?
Honestly, I am a wannabe audiophile. I am just starting to get into the world of audiophile. An audiophile friend of mine suggested it to me cuz it was on sale.
I would say the sound is pretty good. It is a direct sound and definitely not soft or anything. As far as calls go, I have good experience with these so I am pretty happy.
I don't have any problems with these so far so I think they are good.
good to hear cause I am also browsing around looking for a replacement ear/mic headset.
I do really hope this works for our SGS because this model Klipsch S2m is also listed in the apple store as iphone compatible. and to my knowledge iphone heatsets do not work with SGS.
so I'm a little confused ...
It is advertised as iPhone compatible but it does work with my vibrant... idk what is happening...
Actually, my friend said my phone would work before I bought it so...
Nokia AD-54 / HS-45 adaptor’s inline mic works on my international i9000GT, and many others have reported it working on other variants of Galaxy S.
IMO this is the best option right now because it lets you connect your own headphone .

P.S : None of the call/media buttons work though..
Does anyone know of any good headset adapters that actually work?
I would use the Samsung stock headset but they HAD to be in-ear, I can't use in-ear because my ears block up easily.
I want something simple like the post above but I want one that has a functional media key.
Also, how do you guys SKIP SONGS?! D:

the mic/ground terminals are not the same
i have a triplefi10vi and i had to make an adaptor to switch the ground and mic around for the inline mic to work

They will work as intended. Pick up/drop a call, pause/play music and mic works as well, a mic really!
Only issue I have come across is with Froyo JP1/JP3/JPC, where if you keep pulling and plugging the earphones in, the buttons will not work as intended, but after you reset the phone it works as normal.
JPK seems to be working fine and Eclair on the other hand works perfectly fine!
Also there is only one button on this earphone.

HeadSET adapter to make iPhone compatible headSETs work

Does anybody know of a simple and guaranteed to work 3.5mm headset (not headphone) to headset adapter that makes iPhone compatible headsets work with Galaxy S?
I have Sennheiser MM 60i, but the mic does not work.
I do NOT want to buy headPHONES adapter (mic doesn't work).
Neither do I want to buy a headset adapter with a built-in separate mic (want to use the higher quality mic in the headset I have).
There are tons and tons of adapters on eBay, but almost all of them are either headPHONE adapters (only 4-pin to 3-pin) or come with their own mic.
Is there a 4-pin to 4-pin 3.5mm female to male adapter that crosses over the wires from iPhone-standard to Nokia/Galaxy S standard?
Am nearly going mad trying to find an adapter like this at local stores.
Any help appreciated!
***EDIT*** Cable works
I was looking for the same kinda thing, I stumbled across this on eBay yesterday and ordered it.
Now I'm not sure it will work 100% but if you can wait a couple of weeks I'll know for sure then, and if it doesn't I've only lost $1
or with decent soldering skills you can make one
i made one from an old nokia ad57 adapter cable and a female four pole plug
i cut the wires from the nokia adaptor and soldered the female four pole on switching the sleeve with ring ( i.e. tip/ring/ring/sleeve male plug to tip/ring/sleeve/ring female plug)
this is the result

I got one when I purchased some headphones that i got that are made by urbanears.
It seems to work well, the company calls it the "nokia adapter", however it makes the headphones work perfectly on my phone.
Does the urbanears adapter only work with headPHONES or also with headSET including the mic?
Yes, I guess I could dig out my soldering iron, source the 4-pin 3.5mm plugs and start fiddling, but I was kind hoping for a $4 eBay part to do the trick

I will wait for your review
Or if anyone can post a detail tutorial to explain how to do this adapter manually? Does it reduce the sound quality?
doesnt reduce sq afaik and thats using a very revealing iem like the triplefi10
also the mod is really easy, the most difficult part is soldering because the plug is small but not really difficult as to require special tools or special skills
1. i just cut the nokia adaptor
2. then i separate the 4 wires inside and determine which is tip, ring, ring, sleeve via a tester/multi tester, the wires are colored so write down which is which
3. then i got the female plug and used a cutter on the rubber around it, slice it down the middle on two sides so you can open it. if you have a threaded female plug, you just open it.
4. then you solerd the wire according to the pattern i posted above. only switch the ring and sleeve around.
5. close up everything and youre done
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's simply an extension lead, although it only contains three wires, so you have to completely strip the socket and jack and rewire it for it to work. I bought one but before i could wire, the vacuum took the socket it from me xD I really need to get around to buying another one.
I found this adapter on xda and a few other sites, i really want one but don't wanna shell 20 bucks for an adapter, that i know will break at some point.

iphone/Nokia headset
If you buy a set of Creative HS730i headsets - you get Nokia adapters with them. They are about £40 with delivery, I only purchased them for the Nokia adapter as I couldn't find any adapters sold so I could em use my iphone headset with my Samsung Galaxy S. I did email Creative to see if they sold the adapters on their own but they said no!!!
I have not been able to confirm if they work as I am using a custom rom and kernel, which breaks the headset calling capability.
However I dont see why it would not work, as that is what is advertised to do.

interesting i saw this once before and thought it was just a 2.5 to 3.5 or a 4 pong to 3 prong adapter. It dose not really clearly state that it will convert the ground and mic so iphone type headsets work with the SGS.
From the the very little description they give i would say it just makes the output to just a 3 prong stereo output. Meaning it disables the mic so even iphone headsets will work like regular headphones. Which really defeats the purpose, no way to know until someone buys it.
BTW what Kernel/ROM combo are you using that breaks the headset calling? i myself got speedmod and doc and if i use my Samsung headset everything is fine.
Hey Folks,
I have bougth the Creative HS-730i and used the Adapter with my AKG k370 headset, witch was builded for using with the iPhone.
I can confirm that the adaper from the HS730i works with my AKG headset!
I can hear my music clearly, the mic is working and the button works too!

[Q] Is there a Wired Remote for DHD beside the lame one it comes with?

Apart from the very ordinary wired remote that comes with the DHD, does anyone know if there's another HTC or a third party wired remote that will work with the DHD?
I'm after something with music controls (back and forward, play / pause and of course volume control). Additionally being able to plug your own headphones in is a MUST.
The RC E100 (below) would be PERFECT, but it's not for the DHD (apparently?). Anyone successfully modded this for the DHD?

+1 here. I dont know but by somehow the stock earphones come with the DHD are ********IT! Even worse than some non-branded 2nd earphones out there
I am really interested in a product like this. The oem earphone from the box is a joke.

Yes, some more voices!
Surely there are more people who use their DHD to play music and surely they have their own headphones that are far superior in quality to the OEMs that come with the DHD.
I actually use two different pairs of headphones each day. A nice Sennheiser inner-ear ear bud pair, and an over the head "cup" pair by Audia-Technica. I use the ear buds when I'm out and on the go; walking, on the train, etc. I use the over the head pair when I'm sitting at the desk. So obviously the need for using your own 'phones is there.
If it's a matter of compatibility, surely the RC E100 can be used with our DHDs, right? I double checked and it can be used on the HTC Magic, which I had prior to the DHD! It uses a standard mini USB A connection. Different to the USB socket of the DHD, but I bet it can be modded.
yes please that would be great is someone can share his experience on any remote controls , been lookinf for some since aquite a while now
This might help: http://www.misco.co.uk/applications...-google-_-dig_cam-_-150731&CAWELAID=304715334
If I can find one cheap enough I'm willing to give it a go, Only 1 on ebay though and its £15.....
I read somewhere that one would need drivers too, as the RC E100 isn't made for the DHD.
Edit: But hey, if you can try it out for everyone that'd be mighty awesome of you.
Edit: Here's the official product page for the RC E100. Note that the DHD is not listed as supported. http://www.htc.com/hk-en/product/accessory/headset_rc-e100.html
Could just be a case of getting the pinout info for the dhd and matching it with a converter to the Hero? Ill have a further look and report back....
Anyone know where we get the software?
I just found this thread under the HTC Leo category: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=594932
Also, over at HTCpedia, they have a page on the RC E100, and there's a link at the bottom to an adaptor that may work for it? See here: http://htcpedia.com/htc-rc-e100-remote-stereo-headset/reviews/accessories.html And here's the adaptor: http://shop.htcpedia.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=231
Edit: The driver / sfotware can be obtained here: http://www.expansys.com.au/f.aspx?i=150187
I tried soldering a stereo mini-jack on to the supplied headset after cutting off the headphones. Should've worked, but my soldering skills are somewhat useless.

This is what I use.

the included earphone is very good, much to my surprice and for £3.34 I think it is a bargain. you press once to pause and play, press twice to fast forward three times to backforward.
I am using CM7 rom and with Poweramp player. I've not check if it works with sense.

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, just it doesn't say on the eBay page that it works for the DHD... So does it work with the DHD?

As I said, I am using it on my DHD with CM7 nightly ROM and it work with PowerAMP. I don't use Sense Rom and its build-in player so I can't say if it will work for certain. I can't see why not but it is for you to find out.
The only down side I can think of is that there is no valume control on this remote.

The HTC YCA300 is another ExtUSB breakout adaptor the same as the RCE100. Only it doesn't have controls.
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=171922
The first issue that would need to be overcome is that the adapters are ExtUSB whereas the DHD is MicroUSB.
Even if an adapter could be used to convert Female MiniUSB/ExtUSB to Male MicroUSB then the chances are that it wouldn't work straight off and would require that driver - but again there's no guarantee that it would work with the DHD...

that's what i use. basically it's a remote for my phone. If i've got my earphones plugged into the DHD while the bluetooth thing is connected, the sound still goes through the audio jack of the dhd, so it really only acts as a remote for me.

Shame it's not a wired remote, as using Bluetooth is another battery drain the DHD certainly doesn't need.
would this work as an adapter ?

No, because that usb port is incompatible with desire hd.
