How to Repair/Change Stylus Sensor? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I googled and couldn't find any information. My CDMA Touch Pro and my CDMA Diamond both have the stylus sensor, however I can't tell if my newly acquired Fuze has one.
With the CDMA Touch pro, you can actually see a little switch that springs out when the stylus is pulled out. The CDMA Diamond's switch is hidden. I looked at the Fuze and I can't see a switch.
Thanks.
My stylus sensor is physically broken. Has anyone replaced this switch before? Know where to get a spare part?

Stylus Sensor
Yes, the Fuze does have a stylus sensor which would explain the ability for it to turn on from stylus removal and ability to launch the notes application during a call. The sensor is somewhat a little switch, remove the stylus from its silo, take a flashlight/led light and shine it into the silo and you will clearly see a little switch, which I believe should be the sensor.

When I remove my stylus during a call, despite that feature being enabled, the notpad never opens. This is what initially led me to wonder if the Fuze has a sensor at all. I guess mine may be broken.

I took a look down the silo and can't see anything that looks like the switch I see in my cdma touch pro or diamond. Can another Fuze user please tell me how far away form the bottom of the phone the switch is located?
NVM, I found it. It's on the right side of the silo wall with the screen facing down about 2 cm in.

It helps if you slide the battery cover off. The switch is located just below where the battery cover meets the case.
The switch breaks very easily. If you've ever forced the stylus into the silo, you've more than likely broken the switch.

Yes, I examined my silo very carefully and I found the spot where the switch is supposed to be, however it seems it has broken off.
Has anyone ever replaced this sensor?

my is broken too. so I bumping tread

Mine broke the evening I first tried my new Raphael.
I remember a very tiny thingie dropped on the floor but when only 30min later I realized that must have been the notch that operates the switch it was gone.
You can send in your Raphael for warranty but I did not do that as I did not find the hassle (phone gne for 3 weeks at least) to weight against the pro's (working switch).
HTC did not want to ship me a spare notch to fiddle in myself 9wich would be te best/cheapest solution for all.

Stylus Lock
This is the stylus lock switch, see red circled in attached picture.
I think its rather very hard to de-solder & re-solder it.
Recently i lost my Touch - Pro ( MB gone) & i am selling working part for helping others.
If you people are interested i can give you the complete IO part & no need to replace switch.

Trying to decide between the Touch cruise and Kaiser...

I did a list of downsides for each (only in relation to each other).
Downsides of Kaiser:
- relatively Big and heavy.
Downsides of Touch Cruise: (from more worse to less worse)
- No cheap version (like AT&T's TILT - $500 USD).
- Insensitive touch screen.
- Bad reception on Bluetooth.
- Mediocre build quality (loose volume control, etc.)
- No hardware keyboard (becomes a bigger problem if the touch screen is insensitive).
- Smaller xda community (might change in the future).
It seems like the choice should be easy, but I just don't know how easy it will be for me to live with a 200 gram brick in my pocket...
As a former kaiser and now a polaris owner, I can say:
The Polaris is cheaper than the kaiser
the touch screen works just fine (same as with the tilt)
community for polaris & kaiser is almost the same
the polaris has more & newer functionality (applies to original rom)

As I said, for the Kaiser there is the cheaper option of going with the AT&T TILT, which can be had NEW (with warranty) for $450-500 USD on ebay. The lowest price on ebay for which the Polaris can be bought is around $700 USD. That's a HUGE price difference, for two products which basically have similar functions and hardware.

I've read just too many posts from people with the Polaris saying the touch screen is insensitive. Are you saying it's a non issue and both the touch screen sensitivity of the Polaris is not worse than the Kaiser ? (it's important for me to hear it from someone who came from the Kaiser).

I had a kaiser for 1 month or 2 also then sold it because I realized I didn't use the hardware keyboard as much as I thought I did.
When I took the cruise out of the box I thought it was a fake phone because it is lighter then the kaiser (obviously) and my s730, hell, even lighter then my Motorola v60 I think! lol
Here was my mini list
Kaiser:
More mechanical components mean greater chances of something physically breaking/wearing down. I drop kaiser on the city bus, I am screwed!
jog wheel works fine, but it's a little loose sometimes too, like the cruise volume slider (this thing is almost useless at the moment unless I can "work it in")
The hard keys on the front are great, but on a lot of kaisers, they are loose. I had two kaisers, and both hard key face plates were loose. had to send the first one back because depending on how much the plate had slid, i couldn't go up or down with the d pad.
I really liked the touch keypad that i installed on the kaiser, but the buttons were harder to press with thumb in corners or a long the side cuz of the groove where the screen meets the casing.
Kaiser is around the same size, but just a lot thicker obviously.
Thoughts on the cruise so far;
Volume slider sucks ass, have to use my nail to move it. Luckily whatever i am listening to i can either use that REALLY cool dial pad/jog wheel thing. I set hat more than I used the kaiser jog wheel. Or I use my headset.
The screen is flush with the sides and tops of the casing, so hitting buttons on the corners or sides are no problem, but if you have a case then it's the same as having a kaiser.
About the insensitive screen. I have to agree with you on that somewhat. With the kaiser, it looks like what's there is just the screen. But with the cruise, it looks like the screen is underneath another layer of something. This is how we have the flush face with the cruise, there is something else over the screen that the kaiser does not(i don't think at last) have. sometimes if you press hard enough (which you shouldn't have to do ) you can feel your thumb hit the "second screen" (the actual lcd), not the thing that we actually touch on top). It's hard to explain clearly
I have sensitives on very high using kaisertweak and playing with reg keys. I've got it pretty close to sensitivity of kaiser now. I do notice with cube i have to press a little hard to OPEN it, but not left or right or close it. kind of weird.
It's true about the communities, it is a little small right now, but also I think tytn i had abig following so it's natural tytn II would now also. but again, cruise and tytn ii are pretty much the same inside.
I bought my cruise for 699 Canadian, new.
The radio is really cool too (amazing, for such a high tech modern device, something as old school as an FM radio is what really impresses me.. lol)
Another gripe so far about cruise is that i dont know if its the rom i am using, or if its all roms, or if it's the extra layer over the screen, is that when I am typing out a message, with ANY keyboard, but ONLY in the messaging application, i get no feedback from the keys. Nothing highlights if i press it quickly. The letter appears, which is great, but i don't see any of the keys being highlighted unless i hold onto it longer. This could be the rom id downloaded, but i tried on 2 roms I think, and it might have even been like this on the original rom too, I can't remember. I am still trying to figure it out. But visual key feedback is very important to me. I didn't have that problem with the touch keyboard installed on the kaiser. I think I'll do some more testing on that tonight actually.
A few other things.. haha, on a roll.
With the Kaiser.. I noticed that the way I hold it with one had, my pointing finger woudl ALWAYS land on the damn camera lens because the lens is on the top half of the casing the back. Pretty annoying to obsessively clean that lens. With the cruise, the main camera is in the middle, and my finger does not touch it
I do admit the Kaiser is nicer to actually hold because of the rounder corners and it's thickness. If fits in the hand better.
The cruise has more of a rectangular/pointy shape. It takes a little getting use to but I didn't really notice the difference until today. Also, depends on how you hold it i guess.
Kaiser (i've never owned one, although I have a Hermes)too thick....looks dated (very shallow statement..I know)
Polaris..I've never had a problem with the touch screen...barring ofcourse when you try to select a different SIP from the taskbar.
The PocketCM keyboard is one the best touch software around...very intellegent...I was never a texter..but with this keyboard I very rarely have to backtrack my typing...and in general touch software is only going to get better.
besides IMVPO I dont like thick pullout keypads....
Just my 2 pence worth...
briggs81,
Thank you for your words.
From what you say I think I'll go with the TILT. I simply can't justify paying $200 USD more for the cruise. If they were both at the same price, I would have taken the cruise with its faults, but the price difference is the last straw.
In the following year I'm sure lots of great devices wil come out, including probably HTC devices with proper video drivers. We should always be ready to upgrade, and I don't feel the cruise is such a good investment at this time (if you're on a budget, that is).
Screen insensitive??? Lol, with the right tweak the screen is to sensitive haha...mine is quick and very alert for touches.

Maybe on your device, and in your opinion. No point in laughing.
Don't know about everyone else, but my screen is extremely sensitive, it has never missed a tap EVER. FYI, I roll w/o a screen protector (they ruin the look too much imo but I always keep the phone in its suede case when not in use). BTW, Kaiser is really a brick compared to the Polaris, and the polaris is pretty much a one handed phone for me whereas the Kaiser is definitely not, furthermore as far as looks there is really no competition. However, if you need the keyboard Kaiser is clearly the only choice. I emphasize need, bc you will most likely find that you get along just fine with the onscreen touch keyboard.

No... this is true. There is not any touch-sensitivity problems with Polaris as it can easily (very easily) can be improved with some registry tweaks.
I own one of the first Touch Cruises (first one reported here in the Forum) and I also have a Kaiser for conducting an end-user custom ROM review. I am free to put my sim card in either device, but it always ends up in the Cruise. I have to force myself to keep the Kaiser active for any time over a few hours.
With the Kaiser custom ROM, I have all of the TouchFlo interface features as the Cruise. I have never perceived a problem with the screen sensitivity on the Cruise. To the contrary, I have more struggles with the Kaiser and most often, I find the landscape/portrait getting out of sync due to accidentally nudging the screen slider on then back off before the swap has time to apply. If you're bothered by the pointy corners on the Cruise, get the Orbit II but this is really only cosmetics. For me I have no issues with the volume slider on the Crusie. The scroll wheel is kind of free and easy, but for the limited number of times I've ever needed to use it, it works fine. I think you can tell which device I prefer. For me, even if it were $200-$250 less for the AT&T Tilt, I don't like it sitting side by side with the Cruise.
Indeed you can edit the registry setting for the sensitivity of the screen, although it is not needed (atleast for me).
I find it strange that you have to pay 200 dollars more for a cruise then a kaiser.
A kaiser here costs around 670 euro, the cruise costs about 500 euro
Also the pictures I am taking have far more better quality then on the kaiser.
Maybe my lense on the kaiser wasnt clean enough, i don't know.
But as said before here, the position of the camera is way better then on the kaiser. No more fears for dirty fingers on the lense
I switched from kaiser to touch cruise and until now i hadnt have one moment of regret
Damn it guys, you are making this decision harder for me
Regarding the screen of the touch cruise, how can you protect it if it's on the same plane with the sides of the device, I mean, how will the screen protector stay in one place and not move ?

The TC comes with a screen protector which sticks to the screen via adhesive (I haven't put it on though as I'm careful with the phone and keep it in its oem suede/microfiber case when I'm not on the phone).
BTW, I was actually in a position to get the ATT Tilt for just $100 after rebates and discounts...I still chose the Touch Cruise as its ridiculously better looking and a lot more usable for me as the flush screen paired w/Touch Flo allows for one handed usage (one-handed usage is key for me, esp as I'm a former Smartphone user).
FYI: I did pick up another smartphone from ATT to sell on eBay so that I could in a way subsidize the cost of the Polaris.
on tuch cruise screen sensitivity for finger, not for stylus. so its easy for finger & hard for stylus.

But can't it still catch a scratch from the stylus ?, is the screen of the touch cruise less prone to scratches ? (like the Iphone)
Also, using adhesive will destroy the look of the phone, no ?, and how will you take it off if you want without leaving residue ?

Really, it will be easier using a stylus with the Kaiser than with the Cuise ?, a lot of software is still for stylus only...
I have never found a need for using a screen protector on any of my devices. As they have been passed down through my teenage sons, they too have learned proper care and use of the screens. With the Cruise, I definitely don't like to prospect of having a 'sticker' on the face if it. Just learn how to properly care for and use your screen and it will last.

I intend to put the phone in my jean's pocket (without anything else) with the screen toward the leg.
Could this thing cause a problem ?

I don't have this issue, its easy for me to use my finger just as it is easy to use the stylus. Both require very little pressure. I did use a Kaiser in a shop once, and it actually required a lot of pressure (prob due screen protector they had installed on it).

I wouldn't think so.... but I would still use the oem suede/microfiber sheath, as its extremely thin and doesn't add to the bulk of the device, but protects it from lint, and any inadverdent scratches just in case something happens to already be in your pocket.

The screen seems very resistant to scratches from the stylus and the stylus glides across the screen without any resistance. In fact, you got me curious and I applied a moderate amount of strength to the stylus just to see and its still smooth as silk without any scratching.
As far as the adhesive from the screen protector, my guess is that this is a non-issue. I don't use screen protectors as they tend to look kind of cheap, but I'd imagine if it did leave any residue behind, it could be cleaned up fairly easily.

Polaris Scroll Wheel \ D-PAD Broken :( Need Advice

If anyone knowledable on anything that pertains to my problem could help me out I would be very grateful..here's the scoop..
I have had my polaris for over a year now (out of warranty) and for the longest time I've had issues with the touch screen not responding correctly and having to re-calibrate it all the time. I finally figured out what the issue was yesterday after I hard reset the device and the screen was still messed up...I had been using a dock for this device that isn't manufactured very well -- using the dock day in day out for a few months at work actually bent the pins on the USB connector on the cruise to the point where some of them were touching each other (yikes!)
So, I gave the phone to my dad who's an engineer, he took it to work and used a microscope or whatever and some tools and got the pins back straight again..now the screen works fine! Needless to say that dock is in the garbage now. The brand was "BoxWave" -- stay away from their products, they are JUNK!
Anyways -- I still have a problem with the scroll wheel.
Spinning the wheel does not work at all -- the Up, Down, and Left buttons work when pressed, and the wheel does light up, but spinning it doesn't do anything. Also the Right button doesn't work either. The button in the middle works okay. All of the working buttons cause the light to go on.
The logical conclusion here to me anyways seems to be that the bent pins caused permanent damage to the scroll wheel...I'm very glad it didn't cause perm. damage to the screen (or anything else, so I hope!!)..but anyways -- what would be the best option for me at this point?
Call HTC and have them fix it and pay out of pocket?
About how much would they charge for something like this (ballpark)?
My dad is a very skilled electrical engineer -- he would be willing to take it apart and fix it for me at work..he's got all the tools and stuff for it and doesn't mind at all...what parts should I look into ordering?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide here.
Hi,
I have a similar problem the up, left, right and turning the wheel does not work on my polaris either and I have not damaged it whatsoever. So, i do not think your button problem is because of a possible short circuit. But, sorry to tell you but I do not have a solution to the problem.
I thought I was certain, but occaisonally my screen still dies.
Perhaps it was permanently damaged? It is much better than before though -- but no matter what I do -- the wheel spinning does nothing, and the Right key does nothing at all.
Do you have any clue what part we would need to get replaced?
I am looking to replace the screen as well due to scratches.
I believe it's called a "digitizer" (the screen part not the wheel)
No, sorry. But if you do find out let me know as well.
Thank you.
found this on ebay
Hi,
Guys I found this on eBay. It says it can repair this kind of issue. Although I do not have the time to test.
So, here it is

P.S. if anyone does test this please give us your feedback. Thank you
What?
Did you post the wrong link or something?
That is a SIM card.
This thread is about the scroll wheel \ DPad.
EDIT:
Nvm, I see in the auction it says its a ribbon or something.
I dunno about this one...but it's cheap.
I still have not even gotten around to repairing my screen \ usb port though...god damn money.
If i order this ill let u know.
OK so I just purchased a new charge port and digitizer, but I have yet to see ANYONE selling a replacement scroll wheel.
Alot of people are selling the "housing" but it's missing the wheel!
Anyone know where to get a replacement metal panel and wheel only, not the entire housing?
I found a jog wheel for the shadow -- wonder if it would fit?
I have the same issue, the jog wheel doesn't work and neither the right button, but everything else works & lights up the keypad part....strange that this is 3 of us with the EXACT problem, maybe there's something we need to figure out? btw, i used to hardly use the buttons, but i used the jogwheel a lot to scroll.
I also have the BoxWave dock, however, i've found mine to be of great quality & use...reading your post made me paranoid so I checked my usb connecter over & over but thankfully everything looks very normal.
I came across this post, because I was actually looking for some user advice on replacing your own housing & wheel. I already found the entire housing & keypad on ebay that comes with the screwdriver set, and i have the manual to assemble & dissassemble.
I would rather do it myself so i wouldn't have to do without my phone while waiting for this to get repaired, but i also don't want to do it if it's very tricky with a big chance of busting phone, so i'm looking for a feel of easy-medium-hard. I've already done something similar 3 years ago to my I-Mate Jamin as well as replacing the speaker, so my technical skills are probably around mid-level.
Anyways best of luck, i'll update this post later to tell you how it went (this could be in 2 weeks time from now).

I had the same problem but on a 2 year warranty Touch Cruise. Phone was fixed and re-installed with WM 6.1
Know I face Bluetooth connection problems again and the BT hotfix is not accepted anymore.
I do have to say that the upgrade after re-installing should have been left behind.
I have the same problem... Scrol wheel not working en button to the right
anyone ever fixed this?
Hey Guys!
I've got the same problem with the wheel and the right button. So I was wondering if anyone fixed the problem?
I have no warranty anymore
I think I know what's your problem, mates.. It seems that it is essential for almost any P3650 - the cable, which is going from the jog wheel to the keyboard control unit tears apart just before (or exactly at) the copper pads on the molex thingie, that plugs into K/B unit (damage is so slight, that it barely can be seen).
I had no luck looking for the jog wheel sold seperately from housing, or at least with that plastic-chromed buttons cover. If anyone finds out that it is possible to obtain it seperately - I would greatly appreciate
Btw, same problem goes for sim holder's cable - I have replaced mine 2 times already (you can get 'em for around 15$ from ebay).
Sorry for my english - it's a bit rusty atm
Same problem here..wheel doesn't function can't find the part by itself ..
Touch Cruise jog wheel & keyboard
Exact same here - jog wheel scrolling broken & right selection does not work. Besides, my "call" key stucks time to time.
So for now I've just got both of them - jog wheel and keyboard (not the entire housing) from ebay, 15 & 7 $ respective
wheel ordered from the following ebay location :
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=260656153778&si=1E2jM09T8qOM9DzM6uzrXo5Qiqg%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
same provider has keyboard also, for some reason it is not on eBay active items. But you can contact the seller and ask for it.
I gonna replace both in a near future, and will update about the result.

[Q] The display lights up if the sliding mechanism is even slightly nudged?

Same problem with me.. (link)
Personally, I don't like the capacitive buttons.. and I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with the search button!
Also, I don't know if anyone else has this problem..
If my keyboard is slightly moved/nudged, it wakes the phone up. See video..

Well, that's not a big problem, even if the phone is waked up, it's still locked and goes to sleep again in 3-4 seconds.
This is weird!
Mine's display light up after I slide it past the bottom keyboard row, it can stay locked while I can clearly see the spacebar!
How can the same device act differently like that? mine is a 7 Pro (not an Arrive), and I can see from your video that yours is a 7 Pro too.

If I push the sliding mechanism evenly, with two fingers, mine also lights up after the first row of the keyboard, just like yours. But try to push only the right side...
The screen is triggered based on a magnet I believe. So the amount that the screen must be moved to trigger the screen to come on isn't a precise thing.
Doesn't happen on my Arrive.

Mine doesn't light up if I nudge the right or left side. It also does not light up If split it in half like the above video.
It only lights up when I slide it over the first row of keys.

The screen is triggered based on a magnet I believe. So the amount that the screen must be moved to trigger the screen to come on isn't a precise thing.

This is correct.
I don't have the manual for that phone. (it's similar to the mechanism shown for the TyTn however www.mikechannon.net or see here to get the general idea http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2677085&postcount=3 ) HTC tightened their document security and it's almost impossible to get Service Manuals current devices these days.
However, as tiny17 commented, in HTC phones, the sliding keyboard activates "wake-up" by means of a small magnet which is glued onto the inside of the casing. As this moves past the magnet operated switch it wakes up the phone. You will see similar behaviour if you bring a magnet near certain parts of the case and in fact this is a way to locate where the magnet switch is located.
Also, using phone cases that have magnet clasps on them can also operate the switch and wake up the phone when sliding it in and out of the case/pouch.
So technically this is not a fault, but it can be annoying.

If your muting the device without meaning to, then many people (Me) have had this problem, it's to do with the touch cover being broken.
I got mine replaced and it works fine now.... MS really ****ed up on this device, this is one of many problems you will run into with the touch cover.

Occasionally if I swipe in or press the touchpad edge just SO on the touch cover I'll see the volume thing go to mute. Agree its odd.
Just to be sure, you're aware that there actually is a Mute button on the cover (Fn+F1... except in this case if you actually want F1 it's Fn+Mute), right?
Been on chat with support again, they know about it and there is a fix in the pipeline..
So far by Surface experiance has gone really well..
Originally got Surface about 2 weeks after they came out.
back end of last year the unit was swapped out as the mSd card slot was a bit hit and miss as to it working.
Got an advanced replacament.
New device the touch cover wouldnt always bring the device out of standby, support suggested a new touch cover.
Get an advanced replacement.
New touch cover seems to have the mute problem.
Spoke to chat, its not an issue with the hardware and a patch is in the pipeline..
That said I like the device and will be getting a Pro when it comes out.

Screen damaged what should i do

My sister just broke her moto x pure.
The display works, however the digitizer do not works correctly. Cannot post pictures because the wallpaper is containing private information and i cannot change it.
She cannot use the entire screen.
For example on the lockscreen, she cannot use the 8. And the other digits works very badly. So she cannot unlock her phone.
What should I replace (screen, digitizer...) and where should I find the replacement part ?
Thank for your help
You'll need to replace both the digitizer + display as they come together. If you are good at repairing phones, you can get the display from eBay or else send your phone to service center if you don't. I would suggest you to send it to the service center.
You could use a USB OTG cable to connect a mouse and thus regain control of the device in order to clear any sensitive information prior to having someone fix it. I have bought and fixed several Moto X pure edition phones with cracked screens for family members. Most of them did alright, but one phone had the screen replaced, then a cow stepped on it. Although it didn't crack, after a while parts of the screen stopped responding to touch. The screen I replaced it with has not been damaged at all, but parts of it have stopped responding to touch as well. Sometimes I wonder if these phones don't have a particularly weak and easily damaged screen. I sometimes get my replacement screens from GadgetFix. If you fix it yourself make absolutely sure that you get a screen+frame assembly. It's just a few dollars more, and totally worth it. And be careful when you transfer the speaker grill trim to the new screen that you don't press hard enough to crack the screen.
Thanks you, I think I will change the screen and the frame.

Is this what I should buy ?
The screen that you posted does not include the frame. I briefly looked on eBay; you might find one with the frame included for a few dollars less than gadget fix, but for simplicity I just linked this one. On the back side of the display you will notice the screw inserts. That is what you need to look for.

Could you point me to a tutorial or a video explaining how to change the screen
I believe that Ifixit has a whole teardown tutorial for this phone. If not just search YouTube for (phone model) screen replacement, watch it a time or two, and then pause it while you do each individual step. If the first video you watch doesn't explain things in an understandable manner just watch another one. It's been a while since I searched for one, but I think there are at least a few good ones.
