[ROM] Official HTC FROYO Android 2.2 FILE for Manual Update via HTC SYNC (OTA file) - Desire Android Development

UPDATED Aug 19, 2010: New Link, for Mirror to ROM. Original was pulled.
Get it here: http://bit.ly/cIXo91
This thread has been updated with great HOW TO VIDEO by XDA member darren rich who demystified a bunch of elements -- making this user-friendly for people with both UNBRANDED HTC Desire phones (GSM) -- and Branded phones -- which can be converted into unbranded phones first, by using the Goldcard process -- which he discusses.

This thread shows you how to update your HTC Desire GSM phone to Android version 2.2, Froyo, MANUALLY, using a WindowsPC computer, running the application "HTC Sync", connecting to your phone via USB cable. It's for usage if you have not been able to update Over The Air (OTA) -- and will provide you the exact same end result.
This is official HTC Software. This is for UNROOTED phones, phones that have only had official software that was originally installed, or OTA official updates. In other words:

You do not need to root your phone to run an RUU. These are official HTC updates that are designed for recovery or for people who cannot upgrade OTA.

RUU means "Rom Upgrade Utility" -- For unbranded phones, this process is straight forward. However if you have a branded phone, you have to add another step, and it's very important. It's also explained within...

Since this RUU is restricted to unbranded phones, you need a "goldcard" to bypass the check if you have a branded phone.

The thread combines (A) information from a previous thread posted by "football" [ROM] RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8 whichincluded the key download link to the primary Froyo file, which was posted by the good people at Shipped-Roms.com, with (B) much clarifying information from Darren and other posters from that thread.
Quick Overview
1. Download 3 files you'll need -- to a Windows machine.
a) "HTC Sync" software that runs on WindowsPCs only. It is the program that puts the initial software on your phone via USB cable.
Get it here: http://www.htc.com/europe/supportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=933
b) The main ROM -- a .exe file -- located here: (REVISED LINK as of Aug 19, 2010)
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
See that same file in full context here: (Note: Unfortunately, this page, perhaps that whole site, was pulled, Account suspended)
c) The update to the main ROM -- a zip file -- which will be copied to your phone thru USB cable, not executed thru "HTC Sync". It is located here, from HTC's site:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
2. Read Darren's Blog Post, it has good instructions.
3. Watch his Video. It's easy. You'll feel ready to go.
More Details - About That ROM:
NOTE: "HTC BRAVO" = "HTC DESIRE" . Bravo was the original codename used by HTC before the Desire was actually released. You can confirm that by looking at the "DEVICE DATABASE" that is linked to from the top of every page on XDA-developers, under the XDA logo. All versions of the HTC Bravo/ Desire.

I apologize; I do not know the answer to this. I posted this information prior to performing this installation on my own DESIRE. I will be doing that tomorrow (Sat Aug 14). The reason I posted it is that the thread it is based upon took 22 posts before it was explained WHAT it was, what it dis, how to do it. I thought it could be useful to re-package the information.
I also posted a disclaimer... But after I perform this update tomorrow, I will come back and reply here and tell you what I have found. I am assuming (but i do not know one way or another) that this will be information listed on the same screen that shows firmware version # ?

the only file I had was the one that was originally posted and that I was able to download last week from the site listed at the top of this thread: this file name:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
and that one only. That is all I ever downloaded.
It should now be available here:

Hi, could you explain, if you know, how the two differ, and who should use which? thank you

they don't differ it's your, just made a mirror in case your link dies?

Anybody having issues on the original stock sense unrooted 2.2 ROM? In every Sense 2.2. custom rom I tried I couldn't add more than one gmail account. I then tried unrooting and did the OTA update to 2.2. Same thing, still can't add more than 1 gmail acccount.
So I downgraded and rooted again and tried OpenDesire and could add more gmail accounts without problems. Then I tried a Sense 2.2 custom ROM and again, I coudn't add more than 1 gmail account.
So now I'm thinking to do the unroot with the RUU exe and see if it helps?

How HBOOT I will have after flashing to this rom ??

Did you receive this OTA or did you just find the link somewhere? This theoretically should be the same version that is on the Cliq already. We already have a dump from a retail Cliq device and it is incorporated into the S-Blur ROM.

I did learn a better way to do dumps now (that keeps symlinks etc)..but yeah my blur dump was the same as this update.

If you give us a logcat of the issue in the proper thread, we can probably fix it for you. Make sure you follow the proper error reporting format.
We have already had this dump (thanks thedude! You've been a great help) and the s-blur 1.07 incorporates these updates.
i thought we had the pre-release dump, not the official. i must have missed that in my search. ive been waiting for one to build on.... thanks

All the other blur rom's were based on prerelease dumps, but the 1.07.1 in my thread is not.
this isn't an update.zip to be flashed to your phone btw.
It's a SHX file...old school motorola firmware. The modmymoto guys are working on it...and I'm trying out some stuff to see what I can actually do to modify the file.

i just jumped on a friends computer to download this (since i can never access rapidshare through tmo) and saw your post.... Thread bookmarked, please follow up when theres some progress on this. im dying for some official blurness to work with since the only dump ive got is a pre-release with drizzy stains.
My girl just bought a CLIQ and i gota say its pretty cool and the facebook app is 10 times better than the one in Eclair. Its not like a normal face book app there is an app named accounts and you put your email for your facebook account in it and you can have wigets for status updates messages ect. I still cant understand why there is not a single facebook app out right now that can send and recieve messages. Hopfully somone can get the facebook/accounts app from the cliq and deodex it to run on the G1

The source code that was released is not the complete source code. They aren't going to give out their proprietary components. The only source code they released were parts that contained GPL code. Check out the code tree and you'll see what I mean

i posted this in another forum the other day. If you power on the phone with the squares button (menu) held down it will bring up a blue screen at the bottom that says "Bootloader USB Int". When i plug it into the USB on my PC it comes up with a new device "Motorola Flash Interface" I don't know if this is significant to anybody?

[GUIDE] Video Tutorial - Flashing your Milestone XT720 back to stock ROM

Here you go!
The much requested and highly anticipated video tutorial on how to flash your Milestone XT720 back to a stock 2.1 ROM.
This is a two part tutorial. The first part is explaining how to download & install the necessary three items: The Motorola USB drivers, RSD Lite v4.6, and downloading the stock SBF file. There are links in the video description to obtain these files.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-My3iODE208
The second part is the actual flashing process. During this video, I have flashed my phone back to it's original Cincinnati Bell 2.1 Stock ROM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA67WaBfGWQ
Note: I used the Cincinnati Bell 2.1 US Stock ROM sbf file. There are other sbf files available, but I do not have links to them. If someone else has links to these, please share them in this thread for the everyone else to benefit from them.
Happy Flashing!

It's come to my attention that EU people are expressing an interest in this tool.
I'd be happy to expand support as log as I can get the proper feedback.
For hacking:
these lines in windows (hack-ace.cmd) validate the adb connection for the NAM ACE (Inspire):
if /i "%check:~0,-10%"=="MB" goto :working
if /i "%check:~0,-10%"=="HT" goto :working
I've added:
if /i "%check:~0,-10%"=="SH" goto :working
to support EU serial numbers starting with SH.
In Linux/OSX, it's this line:
sudo adb devices|egrep -i -q '(HT)|(MB)'
modified to look like this:
sudo adb devices|egrep -i -q '(HT)|(MB)|(HS)'
You can easily edit the script to add support for your model likewise. Please let me know what's missing and I'll add it.
Restoring to stock:
I'll need Carrier/region, stock CID, and a link to a RUU in zip format from a reliable mirror with an md5sum, then restore for that specific model can be added to that menu.
The link must be reliable and work with wget. No BS captcha/popup hell crap. No exceptions.
DHD boot images now added for non-North American Model DHDs, which should result in fully operational stock roms for ALL DHD, NAM and non-NAM.
The ACE Advanced Hack kit is currently the only one step s-off and root for devices requiring gold card and radio downgrade, and both processes are included in the one step.
If the PC is operating properly, no data is lost and the original ROM remains intact.
The goldcard process is fully integrated and goes fully unnoticed by most users.
If you have questions or issues, please visit the IRC channel in my SIG. Be patient, no one is paid to provide support there. We can help when available.
Gotta say thanks, its by far the easiest way I've heard of rooting the Dhd, i'm surprised its not better known about, I'll do my best to make sure more hear of your great work.
Everyone involved in this deserves a lot of credit
Edit.. You may find a bit more traffic on here now, I've got this stickied on the Dhd general sticky roll up thread. thanks again
just to say lots of thanks for great tool guys
tested with different build numbers
all worked great
so easy and great result
thanks a lot
My DHD is unbranded so I don't need a Goldcard. Can I use this tool to root my DHD?
Thanks

It shouldn't hurt. You'll just end up with a goldcard anyway that won't be needed. The HBOOT will just ignore the goldcard.

Hi, i have some EU ROMs if needed (Vodafone uk/f, O2 uk, Meteor irl etc).
Hi attn1
I'm a moderator in a german smartphone community (pocketpc.ch). For this community, I translated your EFFEN-Manual to German and added some important information for european dhds (as example the notice not to flash an AT&T ROM on a european dhd).
I'd like to link to the my german version of the manuel, but because i'm a new user on XDA it isn't allowed to me
I hope it's ok for you that I took your work without asking
I would be delighted if you pack de german EFFEN Manual to de package, so its easier to download and understand it for German users

Actually, I just need good reliable links to them and MD5s - the hack kit downloads the ROMS rather than including them. It would get very unwieldy mighty quickly otherwise - those RUUS are big.

Yeah, we can even do that and even have a language toggle for the menus. Stop into the IRC channel in my sig and we can work out details. WWE RUU's can be added to the restore menu, too.
My ROM is 2.50.405.2, latest original EU ROM
I just used this hack and I got Cwm but no s-off. Followed the instructions. Also I cant boot into the rom. I get stuck on the white screen (waited at the white screen for a couple of minutes).
Used latest ota stock europe rom.
Flashed custom rom now to see if it works.

Then there were some issues with your USB comms. Those should have been resolved so that you could rerun the hack kit properly. You may have a mess develop without S-OFF and a more current version of CWM.

[Q] root for dummies - Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000

Hi, I have scoured the web for information but several hours later I am none the wiser.
I would like to root my device in order to optimize its performance. I am super confused about: cf-root, mobile/pc odin, android version, etc. I still have no idea what is appropriate for my device. :crying: Please point me in the right direction.
I have found may threads out there with very detailed instructions, but I can't figure out if that's what I need. I'm apparently on Gingerbread, but what do I need now? The Icecream, the other one?
Reason for rooting: phone too slow with so many apps loading themselves in the background. I want to be able to prevent all these [expletive deleted] apps from loading themselves automatically. I also want to remove the stock apps I don't need (but can't now remove). I'm tired of factory resetting every other week to improve performance.
Ultimate purpose: phone, sms, whatsapp, news. That's it. I don't need 3d porn or anything. My needs are extremely minimal.
Thanks for any pointers! :good:

Thanks Sewrizer. I'd rather brick the phone than pay for the service. I already have a more recent phone, so this is more of a second device. It's just that I like the typing better so I haven't completely stopped using it. I guess I'm sort of relishing the idea of an experiment with it as well.
Do you have a link to instructions for the above? If it works for your friend, it's good enough for me.

which cf-root?
Thanks Sewrizer. As it happens these are the instructions I started with, and from which a lot of confusion arose (I can't post urls yet).
The first link is to Odin3 v1.85, but I have found Odin3 v1.87. Not sure if there is a later version. It says somewhere that the latest version is best.
The second link is to a series of posts with many download links. Somewhere down the page it states that if you're confused, then:
First, go to Settings -> About phone -> Build number. It should say something like FROYO.xxJPy. It's primarily the JPy that we are interested in. Try to match that with a download link available in this (and the next few) posts. Some of the downloads dont just have JPy file name format, but are called xx_xxx_JPy.
Let me explain that. Samsung isn't always very precise in naming/marking their different (leaked) firmwares. CF-Root's are modified kernels, the filenames explain in more detail which exact firmware ROM the base kernel was taken from, for those experts who understand.
If you are not one of those people, go back to the JPy thing. The "y" in JPy is 0-9, A-Z. If they run out of numbers, they use letters. So A would be 10 (9 + 1), while Z would be 35 (9 + 26). Find the one that is closest to yours, if yours is not present, and flash that one.

Well, my build number is of the form GINGERBREAD.zsjv6, which doesn't fit the pattern described (I don't see any JPy, I see jv6), so which version of CF-Root should I download?

Hi, I used one available in droid lessons, but i'm not allowed to post links yet. Just look in google for droid lessons and then " How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S3 " It was really easy, and worked great for me.

downgrade

Looks like that tutorial was only good for stock froyo users. Since you have gingerbread you must have updated your phone. I think you may have to downgrade from 2.3 to 2.2.

yes you're right I did upgrade at the Samsung store. I'll follow up your link now, but it's starting to sound awfully complicated :silly:
Thanks Sewrizer :silly::highfive:

[BACKUP] HTC Sensation Preservation Project!

HTC Sensation (XE) Backup
So! Our phone just became 11 years old.. it was my first Android phone that I ever had and one that got me into
android development in the first place. Recently I found a great deal on local craigslist equivalent and decided to get it for dirt cheap. Everything went extremely well but then I realised that most links on XDA and other forums are dead by now..
Any link that I found can die at any moment and eventually we would be left with completely nothing..
On top of that few of the ROMs that I found were found in places that require either Chinese phone
number to download them or pretty deep Googling.
So that's why I decided to create a HTC Sensation (XE) Preservation Project!
I spent few days looking for download links and managed to create a small collection
of roughly 12GB of ROMs & Kernels & mods.
I'll try to add more ROMs and kernels and mods to that Mega
folder every time I find anything, feel free to post links if You have any!
Download
HTC Sensation (XE) ROMs - Kernels - Mods
Enjoy!

This entire community that kept making all this amazing stuff for this device since 2011!
Thanks for doing this. Sensation IS still a great piece of hardware.
My two guiding observations on older phones:
When the OEM drops radio updates or protocols change, the device is left either vulnerable or nonfunctional.
To be useful, the device must be able to render some service, and do so securely and competitively.
Effectively out-of-play for phone use, some can be repurposed as security cameras, etc. But at some point, you just gotta let go. (Nooo! ... But yes.)
Placing them into the e-waste recycle bin can be tough. We have spent some of life's energies interacting with them and they are bonded to our memories.
But in perspective, they are not human. To keep moving forward, we must either discard the tools that are no longer useful, or maybe place in a "phone museum."
With new hardware, better experiences lie ahead.
I couldn't find that .zip archive there
By running root.bat you can get Root on S-ON and Unlocked
You can add PAC-MAN ROM?
I have two questions:1.Can I copy all the content to my Onedrive? 2.If yes, how many gigabytes does it take?
In this post I will publish links to ROMs that I found on the Internet
Check this thread occasionally to see if I've found something new
Thanks for downloading the files from this post
And yes, name the PG58IMG files more clearly
For example if a file contains ENG HBOOT then call it (ENG HBOOT)PG58IMG, if it contains RADIO 11.76C then call it (RADIO 11.76C)PG58IMG. I think there is no need to give further examples

I'm looking for ROM from Mikhei777 not ViperS 2.0.1
By the way I'm installing that firmware right now
If someone finds a ROM from Mikhei777 I will transfer him 29 rubles of Russia
I added 3 new ROMs to the list of firmware I found on the Internet
The creator of this thread didn't even add the first 3
I have a big request to everyone who stayed on this forum: Find more ROMs based on Android 2.3.x
I only found CyanogenMod 7 and Sense-o-Maniac with Sense 3.5
Acer Iconia Smart S300 and Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i are much luckier in this respect
In Acer's case either the links are still alive or the files are on acer-club.ru and well preserved thanks to the Wayback Machine
In case of S5830i they are just on mediafire or directly on 4PDA and well preserved.
