[Q] Unknown number issue - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi!
I own a Nexus One and when I use the sms default app I see a grey square instead of my picture. I searched and I found that this is a SIM card issue that can be solved re-programming your phone number into the SIM (my number is "unknown"!!). Many people solved with an iPhone or with old Sony Ericsson phones, which have the possibility to write the phone number into the SIM. What I ask is simple: is there any way to do so with my N1?? It's strange that my superphone cannot while an old phone can!
P.S.: sorry if I made any English mistake!

broken text in dial app... (WM6.5)

Hello,
My problem started after visiting china, after which the text in my dialing application (in HTC diamond) started appearing broken - boxes instead of numbers and weird characters instead of some letters. The IT couldn't fix it and I expected to get new phone soon so I learned to live with it and didn't really try to fix it too hard.
However, after moving my SIM to brand new TD2 today the problem remains.
Apparently it must be linked with the SIM or exchange server since that is what connects those phones. SIM memory appears empty in SIMMgr.
Anyone has any idea how to fix it?
thanks
Jan
sorry for bumpung the thread, but does anyone have any idea?

didnt get u if u are wanting to save ur contacts just open the contacts and choose export contact to sd card and save all contacts it will be saved in vcf format, copy it in ur pc and use it as per ur need as i wasnt clear what u tried to ask
For that you need to first get your number listed here: Settings => About => Status.
If your number is showing, then add yourself as a contact with that number. Put a profile pic that you want to appear on the messaging app.
In case "Unknown" is displayed as the number, then you need to put your SIM into a phone with the ability to edit it's own number and then change it. Eg: SE K550i
AFAIK, Optimus one cannot edit its own number on the SIM.
Use an old phone
Hi,
I don't know if the problem has been solved by now?
Here is an (easy) way to do it:
Put your sim in an old cellphone. (i used motorola from 2004) and search for the option there to change "My number" or something like that.
Once you put your sim back in your current phone, the number will be adapted.
Normally every cellphone that is not a smartphone (old enough) should be able to do that.
I have been tried to use SE Z520 to edit MSISDN EF 6F40, success, but you can not get the Android-Setting-About phone-Status...-phone number to replace the unknown....
so I have used my laptop build-in Smartcard reader to change it with this tool:
http://jfviguer.free.fr/simcardexplorer/index.php
it can also read/write 3F00/7F10/6F40 MSISDN for GSM phones.
BUT,
it is too old to support 4G USIM 3F00/7FFF/6F40 MSISDN for 4G USIM.
also lack of support for 4G USIM 3F00/7FFF/6F44 MDN for 4G CSIM
That make the 4G Android phones can not display phone number correctly,
above tool is a good beginning, looking forward for more tool like that

[Completed] [Q] S4 dialer problem

Hello all, I have a samsung galaxy s4 model # i377m that was locked to bell. I purchased a unlock code for the phone and used a Kooko-(telus) sim card to enter the code. The code was successful however when I put my bell sim card back in the phone I can't send or receive phone calls properly. The dialer app opens and I can see my call history and browse my contacts but when I go to place a call the phone goes buggy, it will place the call but my screen goes black and I can't hear or be heard on the receiving end. It's really weird because everything else on the phone works, I have full reception and have the ability to send and receive txt and use data. The phone has a custom rom Cyanogenmod 12. I thought the rom had something to do with it so I downloaded and installed the stock firmware and I still had the same problem. At this point I have put cm12 back on the phone and must wait until someone can help me. I'm really lost for words.
Thanks for taking the time out of you're day to help me
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Have you tried inserting a different SIM into the device?

[Completed] Loss of Contacts and duplicate entries in contact list

Sorry this is my 3rd attempt to get a message out there for help so excuse if my other 2 have gone somewhere else and I am repeating myself. I have a Doogee dg310 Voyager and recently some of my contacts have been duplicated in my contacts list (not of my doing) but more worrying is that contacts are disappearing overnight (again not by me) from my phone. I have no message to say the SIM is full which I have had with my Samsung in the past. Both my wife and some friends have the same phone and are not experiencing the same problem but then I am using a dual SIM, one here in Spain and the other is from a UK company (Orange/EE). Digimobil is the SIM I use the most and it's this one that where the contacts are being removed from. Digi say it's not the SIM but the phone that is at fault. Can anyone help please?

Temporary SIM change and Whatsapp behaviour

Hi all,
I'm asking a question that is probably a FAQ, but for which I have found dozens of different answer. The fact is this: I'm going on holidays and I have planned to take a local sim in the country I visit. When I put the new SIM inside the phone, how does whatsapp will see it? I know that whatsapp verify the phone number the first time, so I do not know if it will recognize the new SIM asking me to validate the number again or it will be totally transparent for me and for my contacts.
Thanks

Once ur whatsapp number is verified, it uses that registered number regardless of whatever sim u change. If you need to use ur new sim card number on ur whatsapp, clear the data of whatsapp and start the initialization process.
