didnt get u if u are wanting to save ur contacts just open the contacts and choose export contact to sd card and save all contacts it will be saved in vcf format, copy it in ur pc and use it as per ur need as i wasnt clear what u tried to ask

For that you need to first get your number listed here: Settings => About => Status.
If your number is showing, then add yourself as a contact with that number. Put a profile pic that you want to appear on the messaging app.
In case "Unknown" is displayed as the number, then you need to put your SIM into a phone with the ability to edit it's own number and then change it. Eg: SE K550i
AFAIK, Optimus one cannot edit its own number on the SIM.

Use an old phone
Hi,
I don't know if the problem has been solved by now?
Here is an (easy) way to do it:
Put your sim in an old cellphone. (i used motorola from 2004) and search for the option there to change "My number" or something like that.
Once you put your sim back in your current phone, the number will be adapted.
Normally every cellphone that is not a smartphone (old enough) should be able to do that.

I have been tried to use SE Z520 to edit MSISDN EF 6F40, success, but you can not get the Android-Setting-About phone-Status...-phone number to replace the unknown....
so I have used my laptop build-in Smartcard reader to change it with this tool:
http://jfviguer.free.fr/simcardexplorer/index.php
it can also read/write 3F00/7F10/6F40 MSISDN for GSM phones.
BUT,
it is too old to support 4G USIM 3F00/7FFF/6F40 MSISDN for 4G USIM.
also lack of support for 4G USIM 3F00/7FFF/6F44 MDN for 4G CSIM
That make the 4G Android phones can not display phone number correctly,
above tool is a good beginning, looking forward for more tool like that

calling cards issue

Guys i am an ex-sx56 user moved off to treo (600 and then 650) and am back to the wizard... I had a phone dialer tool "TAKEPHONE" in the palm world that I used to use and was very handy for phone dialing.
I had a rue setup if there is any number starting with +44 it used to use one calling card and dial the 1800# and with for me to click another button then dial the Pin and the automatically dial the number. That way I never had to change my contacts so that when i am here in the US i use the calling card and when in am there un UK i disable calling card and all the numbers are workable and no updates needed...
I am missing this utility as I travel a lot and dial international a lot… I have looked and have not found any decent tool to do the same.
I looked at the long distance dialer but did not work well with WM5.
I am willing to write some tool if I can get some tapi API in MS.net I have written a utility to make the call now I need to get it to check the state of the line and dial extra digits which I cant figure out
In WM5 I managed to partially solve the problem where I create a new contact with 1800XXXXXXXppYYYY where x is the calling card # and Y is the pin after doing this my calling card service is looking for the actual # it also allows me to fins a number but when I click it it dials another call instead of keying in the digits on the first call….
Not sure if I am expressing this clear but I need help.
I will pay for this kind of app.
I am using long distance dialer , it works ok on my HTC wizard
but I would like to have the one you talking about

[solved] Problem with Contacts and International Country Codes

So Ive been using my HTC Ozone (6.5 Standard, 3VO rom) for a while in israel, and the way the cellular network works is as follows:
country code is +972
the number that shows up on an incoming call is 052-555-5555.
The number that shows up on an incoming text is +972-52-555-5555.
The number that shows up on an outgoing call when dialing without the country code (aka 052-555-5555) is +972-052-555-5555.
All of these differences mean that if I have a number saved in the contact manager (in only one of the above forms), it isnt displayed 2/3rds of the time. If i send a text to ME(052-555-5555), the reply comes back from an unsaved number, in a new thread is +972-52-555-5555.
Is there a way for me to just save the base number (052-555-5555), and have the phone's contact manager realize that its the same number is the +92 equivalent? My current workround is saving all the forms of a number to a contact, but 1. its tedium to go through all my contacts and do this, and 2. you can only save so many numbers to a contact, which means im screwed if the contact has two different numbers.
I see all these fields in the "current country" setting, but I have no idea what they mean, or if that is even the solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hey , i got the same problem on my Omnia 2 with windows mobile version 6.5
The local incoming call won't show the country code, and sms does the opposite way.
check through all my phone setting, can not find any related option for this.
Thanks for anyone can provide a resolution.
i just resolved my problem. hope this way can help you as well.
get a regedit software on your windows mobile phone.
go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Phone
under it, you should able to see a key name "CallIdMatch", change the value to maybe 8 or 9, which means it will match the last 8 or 9 numbers for each incoming call or sms. (use decimal) after the changing, reboot your phone.
Wow, it worked!!
Thanks a lot man!
thanks for the tip jason_ma!
i was also wondering about it.
Anyone know how to edit CalIidMatch an an HTC hero

Can anyone help me with this number format AND a widget

Has anyone come in touch with numbers of the format xxx?xxx?xxxx
Might it have something to do with SIM cards.
It comes up on my Samsung Vibrant, when I message someone. When I type Vin, for example for vince and all the names with that start show up, his mobile number I need shows up HOWEVER one other number I need is the one formatted like the above. Not just him. Numerous people which leads me to believe it is a SIM card number or something that is nothing to worry about
Next, this has something to do with the Samsung Buddy Widget Icon I am using.
I am fully capable of putting all of the contacts on. If I put all contacts with Mobile numbers, NO PROBLEM. However, I then thought, I had to put a contact with multiple numbers on , but make sure their mobile number is listed FIRST. This had worked once. But now, it doesn't matter where their mobile number is, I have put it first, second, etc , and when I text some people it texts their home number.
If anyone can help...Thanks so muchh

[Q] switching between contacts and active call

Hello,
I have this question from long time and hoping to get some help here.
I use calling card for international calls ( cheap ) but in this process I need to switch back and forth between active call and contacts to enter phone numbers on the dial pad during active calls. Now the problem is, when I switch back from contacts to active call and back to contacts again, it does not show me the contact details I was previously viewing instead it shows me the contact list. It is very irritating as its very difficult to remember the 10 digits numbers and dial it in one go. Please give some good idea to switch back and forth between call and contact while keeping the contact details open. My previous Symbian devices were excellent in this area. but I am sure android must have similar functionality...
Thank you
You can simply add the calling card number before your international number with a comma (,) in between. For example you can create your contact as below:
1800xxxyyyy,44xxxyyyzzzz
And just call that number thats it

sounds cool...but it asks me to select couple of options before actually arriving at the option where I enter the actual international number. Or can I try entering all the options seperated by commas and it will work like 1800xxxx,2,1,4,numberxxx
thanks for your reply though...

[Q] Is there a way to set owner info in Nexus S?

Hi all.
Is there a way to set owner info in Nexus S, instead of creating a "me" contact or whatever?
I want to set my info, and it would be good if I could call me (e.g. I'm at work and want to call my wife at home).
I was also wondering this.
I would like to set a picture for myself when I text I see the android image.
What about something like this?

I have found a way. My SIM must contain my number, so the contact I have created for me is associated to the SIM number.
The problem is that my SIM card did not contain it (you can check it in settings->about phone->phone status), and Android can't write it to the SIM. So I took it, put in an old V3 RAZR (there I can edit it), put my cell number in the SIM card, and got it back to my Nexus S.
Done! Now, for example, my contact card/picture is shown within the messages I send.
