Considering exchanging Captivate for Xperia X10... - Captivate General

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else has thought about this too, but, since it's been less than 30 days since the launch of the captivate, we'd be able to exchange / return it for a full refund. The reason I'd consider it is because the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It's not that the captivate is a bad phone or anything, (i love it!), it's just that this new Xperia X10 has some pretty killer specs and the stock sony skin looks pretty damn nice. 1ghz cpu, 8.1 mp camera w/ flash... I'm not sure what version of android it's launching with yet though...
Any thoughts?
TLDR, bigger, sexier phone from sony, still able to exchange.

It only has Android 1.6 on it...Which screams NO WAY to me...Sony should have been able to create a phone that could run at least the current version...so why didn't they?

Well they haven't confirmed which OS it will run. The reason it takes so long for everyone to roll out new android OSs, is because they have to update their skins to match it, which is why we don't have 2.2 right now, because Samsung is wasting their time with touchwiz (which i hated and replaced)

The SE X10 is just another crippled qsd825X device, it stands no were near a galaxy S phone.

These types of threads are always good for a laugh. Usually the OP has already made up their mind. What you then have is two different groups of people responding. First group either tries to "help" the OP reconsider by bad mouthing their thinking or extoling the virtues of the current "flavor of the month" device. Then you have the second group of antagonists that simply want to discredit/embarass/harass the OP and insist he return the device imediately and just go away.
Of course the OP usually has an agenda also. Any way you slice it they are looking for a way to justify their decision. If they stay, they are happy knowing their initial decision was correct. If they go they can blame it on how bad the community treated them.
Always good for wasting away a few precious moments.

Where are these killer specs you speak of ? 1ghz snapdragon is old not to mention comes with slowest GPU , 8p camera is nothing new ... and if OS is 1.6 then its a major downgrade. Internal only 1GB of storage , can't play back MKVs.
Sony is way late to the game with this phone, no superAMOLED or somekind of high end LCD . It was suppose to be released 9 months ago, 9 MONTHS !

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749689
Basically, you are coming to the Captivate forum for your opinion, so you are going to hear things slanted towards the (awesome) Captivate. that being said, the biggest issue right now facing the Captivate is it's GPS. When (not if) it gets fixed, it will be the best phone on AT&T's network, and perhaps the best current android. It's GPU is second to none, the hummingbird is slightly faster then last year's batch of snapdragons, it comes with a massive 16GB internal memory, the SAMOLED is great (though there is argument as to which screen is best, the new LCD HD, iphone's screen, or the SAMOLED).
The only hardware in which the captivate is lacking is the camera. However megapixel is not the end all be all. And the flash on a cell phone is next to worthless because it is not powerful enough to illuminate even a small room or remove red eye, so I don't consider it's lack of flash important.

X10 has been out in Europe for several months
I owned an X1, dont trust SE they will screw ya with the lack of software updates
X10 may never get 2.2, at least the Galaxy S phones are all GUARANTEED 2.2

I hate how everyone dismisses the flash on phone camera's. Yeah it can't light up a room but it can light up the face of my four friends staying a few feet away from it outside at night.

All I have to say is dont buy a phone with a Qualcomm processor in it. Just look at the HTC phones that pale in comparrison in terms of performance. Nuff said. The same company that made the humming bird processor made the Apple A4 processor.

That would be Samsung.

I also owned a x10 looks sweet but 1.6os maybe 2.1 update and prob not 2.2. Screens nice same processor as n1 but the n1 is hella faster I currently also own the galaxy s i9000 euro version its super smooth and as fast if not faster than the n1 and its running 2.1 .
Also if your not into the touch wiz do what I did I put the stock 2.1 launcher works great!

I had an SE phone since.... well, long ago, when they were called just Ericsson. Anyway, I had P800, P900, and P1i. All those times, I would think that, man, won't it be nice when they provide an update that was worthwhile. They never got to it. I lost all my interest in Sony Ericsson in general. I switched from my malfunction P1i to Captivate, and I haven't seen that P1i ever since....

They have confirmed it is running Android 1.6. Is there particular reason why you want the X10? At best its a great midend handset. It only beats the Captivate in the megapixel race? Things like industrial design and Android skin are subjective of course.

DUDE SAME HERE!!! I thought I was like the 3rd person to even have p1i.... It was a f....ing dump, hardware camera, bla bla bla is great..... UPDATES NONE!! There were like some firmware updates, but there was absolutely no app support. GDesk was like OMG..... then nothing was really supported, it was just horrible waste of money..... 500 bux for a barely function "smartphone".... THAT Thing was crap.....
Funny story, I have a friend that works for SE in San Diego for Product Marketing. She's all please support SE and by the Xperia X10, I was like don't even get me started..... She STFU..... only if she offered a BJ.....
Sorry guys /rant.

Speaking of SE San Diego, I just came from the Sony Style store in Fashion Valley Mall here in San Diego. I finally saw the X10. After rebooting it, I started to play with it and check out the apps and settings. I didn't like it from the get-go. I just had to put it down and checked out their 3D TVs instead
Getting a hands-on experience with an X10 was like a step back. I've been a Sony Ericsson user for years (owned 3 phones and loved them.). I was disappointed on this one. I was playing with my coworker's HTC Incredible. Incredible phone indeed! This is what got me to take the Android plunge! (I've owned 2 older HTC devices). Since I'm still with AT&T (I didn't want to jump ship yet) and I didn't want to settle for the HTC Aria with a slower processor, the Captivate was the best choice for me.

I agree stay away from Qualcomm. They helped screw a lot of people with the whole 'missing drivers' problem a few years ago.
I think the company is called Intrinsic (sp?) Anyway they designed Hummingbird for Samsung and they are also owned by Apple.

[Q] Help Me Choose a Smartphone plz

Hi Guys,
This is my first thread in the android section cuz I have been a windows mobile user for a long time with my SE xperia x1.
Now i'd like to buy another phone and unfortunately Windows Phone 7 lacks a lot of things so I'll go with an android phone. I think that froyo is really good.
I thought about the SE X10 but it only has android 2.1 and no official update for or no update at all for 2.2 which reflects how hard it'd be to update to any further version.
I also did some reading and found that Android 2.3 is soon to come and its minimum requirements are 1ghz processor and 512mb RAM. and I want to be able to update to it when the update comes out, so i want a phone with these minimum requirements and to currently have android 2.2 froyo on it.
so if u plz guide me to a phone with these specifications and not very expensive i'll be very thankful
T-Mobile's HTC G2 is a good phone, it has stock Android 2.2 and since it's one of Googles phones it should get the 2.3 update fairly quickly. Also Motorola's Droid 2 is stock 2.2 so it will get the update faster than other phones and has a 1ghz processor, and the Nexus One is probably the best Android phone out there.
Thanx for ur reply but sry i forgot to mention that i'm from Egypt and i'm going to get this phone from UAE so unfortunately there's no carrier phones so T-mobile g2 is not an option
An unlocked Nexus One should work over there. Do you're carriers use GSM?
I guess so, but I won't find a nexus one I'm not buying online
Well The Nexus One is the safest card at the moment. It will most likely be upgraded to gingerbread.
So if you can get hold of a nexus one, I think your problem is solved.
Here's something to read...
http://www.brighthand.com/default.a...ingerbread+3.0+Nexus+One+Upgrade+Release+Date
Thanx for your help, Bu I don't Think that the nexus one will be available where I'm buying plus honestly I don't think it looks beautiful either
so is there any other phone to consider??
The update to 2.3 doesn't have to be official but if the phone have the minimum requirements I believe that someone here at XDA will get the update running on it in no time
so any other recommendations ??
EDIT: There's a Probability that the Nexus One might be available so I'd like to know what does it lack among the phones available now cuz it has ben out since Jan 2010 it must be late on something I guess
I dont own one myself , so I cant really tell you anything about its cons or pros or whatever. However its physichal aspects does seems to feel a bit old, compared to HTC desire that is...
Alright, Let's say that I go for the desire
do u think that it'll be getting the 2.3 update either officially or non-officially
one more thing, is there any drawbacks with the desire?
I have no idea when it come to the desire actually.
And no, I personally think desire is the best android handset out yet =)

I think the desire will not get an official 2.3. update.
But the Desire is almost the same as the Nexus One, which will get the 2.3. update, so there probably will be lots of 2.3.-ports for Desire from Nexus One.
I would'nt got for a SE-device, because imho their support is bad (updating on 2.1. when 2.2. already has been released 6 months ago WTF).
Regards
Yes I agree and as they both have practically the same specs, It would be bad marketing if they didnt offer a upgrade to the Desire aswell in my opinion...
Personally I would recommend the Galaxy S because the support is decent, it has a lot of supporters (custom roms, custom kernels, AOSP-ification etc).
Also hardware wise it is superior to anything on the market right now (strongest graphics chip) and the Super AMOLED is something out of this world! you have to see it to believe it.
Optionally you could wait till January for Nexus 2 which is a (?) modified version of galaxy S with gingerbread.
Secondary I could recommend the N900, it's an AWESOME hacking phone, just got USB hosting support (USB drives etc) and it looks like nokia might bring MeeGo to it after all.
But it's early adoption, yada yada, you'll have to take chances and learn some terminal commands and linux (no biggie) and in reward you get to run android, ubuntu palm pre apps (awesome games) at an almost perfect state(meaning phone, uit etc, games run perfect )!
Now what I would not recommend you to get is an iPhone.
The software support is awful, jaibreaking literally breaks the device (gsm etc...), buld quality, you must have read about it and buh-bye widgets flash and customizations.
's a blog about all that stuff, I keep reading and remain astonished...
http://theiphonefever.blogspot.com/2010/05/iphone-4g-screen-multimedia-flop.html
Yes you could buy a n900 and port it with upcoming nitdroid 0.0.9 (android 2.2.1)
But if you were looking to buy a android device in the first place I would not recommend to buy a n900 and port it to android and so on. I mean... gingerbread is soon to come and the NITDroid project is currently on the froyo stageline , in that case you would always be at least 1 year behind.
I wouldn't go for a galaxy S because of the lack of flash for the camera and the looks, I guess it looks kinda cheap and the desire is way better looking but I agree with you the super AMOLED is great.
and the n900 is very low on specs even if it'd boot android it'll be slow and laggy IMO, plus it's a NOKIA and for me this reason is more than enough not to buy it
and off course I wont even consider an iphone these phones r way stupid
I agree with nickownzya about SE phones I was astonished when I knew that the x10 got 2.1 while 2.2 was already out. why would they do that?!!!
so I guess I'll be either buying a desire or a nexus one, good looking, great support, and better hardware.
Thanx for the help guys
Desire and Nexus are cool but otherwise I hate HTC designs. Why do they always have to make that "spotted" back? what's wrong with a smooth finish?
Hard choice anyway, nexus seems to be close to the end of it's "lifetime" and kinda lags on specs HD video etc, but desire has more potential but doesn't have the same support...
Either way I don't agree about the galaxy looking cheap. SO far it's the only device with gorilla glass display (scratch proof so far for me) and it has the sleekest/thinnest shape of them all.
Also it has the strongest video hardware which will keep it from becoming obsolete a while longer than the competition. So far nothing takes full advantage of it though, unfortunately.
When it comes to design, it differs from a person to another. for me this plastic is too much plus it's a fingerprint magnet and I hate that. I would prefer a metal finish, metal buttons or even harder looking plastic with matte black or gray.
U seem to be a big galaxy S fan yourself and I don't hate it but If only they have added flash for the camera and took the whole thing and put it into a better looking body something like the milestone 2 which BTW also has Gorilla Glass display or a SE x10 I'd definitely go for it .
Anyway, Honestly I'd prefer the desire because of the same reason u mentioned .
Then go for desire, you wont be disapointed =)
Samsung galaxy s. You can't get better hardware.
Its not perfect out of the box.
Infact it need little care, but then its great.
I had an iphone4 before i did buy my sgs. Well now i don't have a iphone 4.

Nope, I completely agree with you and have thought this since day 1. HTC had the g1 and n1 so I was curious why Samsung got the ns.
Would have been nice if HTC would have thrown a SAMOLED2 in the phone, but as someone that moved from a N1 to the MT4G, this phone has been a great successor.
As for the NFC, it would have been nice, but to be honest, I don't see it taking off in the very near future in the US. And by the time it does, we'll probably have a very good replacement from T-Mobile.

LOL, I found the first paragraph very ammusing, haha..
I think the reason it wasn't is because TMO wanted to market this phone as theirs because of the video chat capability... and they wanted the consumers to associate a good phone with their name, where as the N1 was googles baby, and while you could look at it and say it was an amazing phone, you didni't really give anymore credibililty to TMO. This way, tmobile looks good to consumers. Looking at things now.... the nexus S blows, but I don't really blame TMO for that, I can blame google or Samsuck for really dropping the ball there...so smart move on TMO part, IMO
Little known fact. The MyTouch3G was going to be known as the Google Ion, and was going to be the precursor to the Nexus Line.
I think the MyTouchHD would of been a perfect phone for the second generation Nexus Line. How ever, they did just over clock the phone to 1.2Ghrz and the quadrant scores look AMAZING.
I think they undercooked this phone. It's so close to being perfect but Samsung doesn't know the difference between sh!t and Shinola

A Lot Ppl would not know that! That's like explaining something in Russian to a Jew. LoL..
The Mytouch 3G was used heavy as a dev device before the N1 came out. HTC has always been the device not by choice but for not having something else avail. The N1 was basically a revamped version of the Touch and Other Ideas that were on the Drawing Table.
The Nexus S by Samsung is by far hands down the best addition to the Nexus Line. I am also very glad that this is number two in the Line and no other garbage took its place.
Always Remember: The Nexus Line is Google's way of being open with their dev devices, hence "Pure Google". All other devices are literally bastard children that carry a logo that says "with Google" to represent their honorary build.
Sent From a Crop Circle... with a Nexus S
well it's a part of the original "mytouch" line phones ... it's a mt4g not a nexus touch4g. just saying, cause this phone is a successor of the mytouch3g. like how the g2 is for the g1. when the htc hero came out they were calling it a g2, but it wasn't the successor. plus this kills the nexus in so many ways! mytouch has so much custom UI put into it, talking about the slide & this, whereas nexus is just all straight android vanilla without all the bloatware. look at the nexus s, that's pretty much the successor since I heard they won't come out with a nexus 2. but all this is just IMO

No it wasn't. The Google Ion was the developer version of the HTC Magic which came out at least a year before the N1. Never seen any reference to ION being relaunched at the MT3G.
The magic and the mytouch are the same phone. The magic shipped with 288mb ram, the mytouch, until February 2010, shipped with 192mb. Aside from the color, I believe there is no difference between the ion and the magic. Its just that the ion was never on sale to the public, unless I'm mistaken.

There are two different MyTouch3G phones. The PV32A and the PV32B, The "A" variant is a Google Issued phone. That is the dev phone.
I got the MT4G on release date and I'm still in awe at how well built, and feature packed this device is. If they released this with AOSP and called it the Nexus Two no one would be disappointed. I can't believe that T-Mobile of all carriers released such a high end, future proofed device. Most devices are lacking in some area, but the MT4G isn't lacking at all. It has everything and more. I love this device so much, it's the first android handset I've owned where I haven't had any complaints with it.
There must be some political issues behind Google going to Samsung for the Nexus S and not HTC. HTC makes such better devices. You have the G2 and Desire HD which are industrial business looking devices, then you have the MT4G with a completely different design than anything else on the market and it appeals to almost all demographics. Whether you're a first time smartphone buyer or a seasoned Android veteran you will appreciate this device for what it can offer to you. I'm the latter and I have my MT4G hooked up with Gingerbread (complete with the NS screen off animation) and overclocked to 1.8Ghz. What more can you ask for?
The release of the Nexus S really changed my mind about Google and how they view the Nexus family. I don't think Google gives a **** about the average consumer so they don't include things like HD Video Recording, a Notification Light, FFC, Micro SD Card Slot for people with tons of music and videos etc. Instead they give you the bare bones and honestly, the only reassuring factor for the price is the idea of getting tons of Google updates first. That's all fine and dandy if the phone is priced right. $580 is simply too much for a smartphone that lacks so many features regardless of how you want to argue about it.
Right now the MT4G is the top android device on the market. Even when the first dual core devices come out I will still stick with my MT4G until something comes along that is the successor to it. The next smartphone that I make my daily driver will have to surpass the MT4G in every area; hardware, camera/video quality, screen, design etc.
I've been 100% happy with my purchase since day 1. This is the first time I can say this about any android device I've owned.

The Russian Jews I went to school with would probably say "That's like trying to explain something to a person who uses extraneous LoL's" or more likely they'd avoid your presence entirely.
The rest of what you said made as much sense.
What would have helped is if you said "No, it wouldn't be the natural successor..." or "Yes, it would have been..." to start out with.
I sure would have preferred the MyTouch 4G as the new Google phone. It has all the extra pieces many phones don't have that a dev might want to test such as a FFC and 4G. Superior to the Nexus S, it has a memory card slot and working GPS (I assume the GPS on the Nexus S is as good as on any (other?) i9000 series phone).
The beautiful (and tough) screen on the Nexus S might be nice, but it doesn't much matter to a developer testing something, n'cest pas?
Case and point for what its worth... I wanted the NS so bad when I heard about it (I had the G1> MyTouch Fender> then finally MT4G. I'm sorry but that NS is a pain in the **** to get when I can just drop by TMobile and pick this one up. F best buy for cell phones I like t mobile stores I pay them I go to them. Plus this phone runs tits rooted and oc'd @ 1.6-1.7 with no crashes at all ... I've had one crash @ 1.8 big woop. And I know for a fact I haven't been able to get this phone to stutter at all it does everything flawless and fast bottom line.

The "A" variant is the HTC magic, released in the UK and in Canada with Rogers. For some reason t-mobile decided to go with the "B" for North America at launch. All Mytouch 3G phones built after February 2010 are A as well. Main difference is the amount of available ram.

Back on topic - I totally agree that it must have been political. HTC seems to be the Android leader so Samsung getting the NS came out of left field in my eyes. Not to mention the hardware being blatantly inferior to the MT4G, ie; HSPA+, additional RAM, SD slot. I still don't get that.
Also never understood why the US got the inferior 32B. The entire reason I rooted that thing in the first place was so I could overclock it to try and run Navi and Pandora at the same time. I should have bought a N1 in the first place.

Will android ever have another phone released that lives up to the hype like the G1

It seems ever since the first generation of android devices a multitude of phones have been overhyped and just havent delivered. The G1 was a pinnacle of android masterpiece even with its clunky form and poor build quality it was what android phones should be. It was updated when it could be and if not it was easy to update for devs. It didn't have some terrible skin on it, it felt solid enough, and it worked in every way necessary. I mean the nexus one was the same, it was just a good phone. Ever since things have just been over-hyped and generally not worth it. The original droid was pretty terrible by comparison to the original android phone and yet they publicized it to be something amazing because of the sleek look... dont think most of us care too much about the look of our phone or we'd all be like those iphone wielding tools. This same mediocrity has come into play over and over again straight up to the galaxy S series... what are the odds that garbage is ever really going to get updated without XDA as long as samsung has any say over it? That lag also left a bad taste in most peoples mouths and the fact that the sequel to the amazing nexus one is a glorified galaxy S with a front facing camera and flash is just like taking a dump on the nexus line. There have been a few decent devices along the way mostly from HTC but in all actuality the only enjoyable andoid experience I had post G1 was on an HD2. This is not an android bashing thread just a real question and dedz to the G1... Lost but not forgotten.
no there wont , ur live will be empty and sad from now on
Nah, I'm happy with my WP7 devices. Would just like to have a decent android device on the side and when I heard they were making another nexus I got excited.... then I saw the S

lmao. Way to cheer up a person.
Lol why bother to cheer up an obvious troll post?
there was a bit of hype when the desire came out.i think the HD2 is to be honest and thats not suppose to be an android but its deffinently a fun phone to play with, its got eveyone hyped up on here most deffinently, its turning into the must have tweakable phone. It terms of native android devices,we shall have to see what this year brings
Not a troll post by any means. I beg you to give me another phone that lived up as well out of the box. The HD2 did but I dont think it was quite as hyped til XDA took hold of it.

You have a valid point, but just like the first iPhone, the G1 did have it's flaws, but it was a success because it was the only device for Android. As you rightly said, the Nexus One was the next major step, I'd consider the G2 to be an incrimental step up, but I think the next wave of devices to truly impress will be wielding dual core CPUs, because as of now we're just getting the same internals in different casings. As of now all the other specs have been sufficiently maxed-out (1GHz CPUs, 8mp cameras w/ flash, 576-768mb RAM), so I think an influx of DC Snapdragons and Tegra 2s will shake things up a bit.

I dont really think the processors going to make that huge a difference. These phones still have not released anything new and amazing like they did then... They have yet to make another keyboard that could compare to the G1 and thats just sad considering the amount of praise it received. The G2 was nice but the Z hinge was bad and the fact that without overclocking the processor was smaller (though overclocked it was epic) was kinda lame. I dont think tegra 2s are going to make as big a difference as everyone thought if it's the same phones with a nicer processor. What ever happened to that phone with the projector built in? Thats a development...
No there won't. The first one will be the most hyped about regardless of the outcome. Why? It is the first of its kind! It applies to everything, first electric car, first 3D television, first motion-controlled games. So now manufacturers can only make the best phones that they can and still it won't have the same hype as it's granfather.
Isnt honeycomb supossed to be game changing? If you get a dual core phone running 3.0 maybe a gig of ram and you honestly say there Isnt a noticeable you might as well place a sticker saying 'troll' right on your forehead and/or asscheaks...

So the Droid, the Hero, the Evo, the Galaxy S, the G2, the MT4g, and hell even the HD2 didn't have any hype? My sales when I worked at Radio shack tend to disagree with that.(Aside the droid)

They got the hype, aside from the HD2 though none of em lived up to it. That of course isnt android native.

Aside from the G1, the Droid is probably one of the factors that made Android what it is today. The Hero won awards left and right. The Galaxy S has had its share of problems, but considering there are so many variations of it out there, I'd say it lived up to it's hype and more. The Evo lived up to it's hype as one of the biggest selling devices for Sprint! It passed the record sales in the first week than the Palm Pre, their second biggest sales record in a week! Sprint kind of overestimated when they released their sales numbers, but it was still so much that they ran out of stock quickly everywhere. The MT4g is still growing! Look at the Desire! The Desire like the Hero received awards like phone of the year! G1 didn't. G1 was a hit with developers, and the homebrew community. As is almost every HTC phone is too.
Should also mention, in the T3 tech awards the HTC Desire also beat the Iphone 4, which the Iphone 4 and all the Iphone series is easily way over hyped compared to what the G1 was.

Buying a new phone in large impressive market...Opinion?

G'day everyone reading this. I've been in the market for a new mobile for quit sometime now, and tomorrow I'm finally committing myself to a nice little plan for 24month which includes a $0 handset. Yes its time to ditch the HTC Blackstone Touch HD. It was good phone, but lately I want to smash it against a wall.
I've narrowed my choices down to 2 phones...the Samsung Galaxy S and the Xperia X10 with android 2.1...before you ask, "what the hell are you thinking with this choice," let me tell you, its the best avail on this particular plan--I can't talk myself, (or my wife for that matter) into spending tons more on a plan thats not nearly as good in value, for a better/top of the range handset. Unfortunately.
Now from my research the main disappointment with the X10 is the stock 2.1 android (which can be flashed to froyo or gingerbread i think) and of course that plastic screen.
As far a capabilities, correct me if I'm wrong but its running the same hardware as the new HTC incredible S which runs beautifully straight out of the box.
I like the dedicated camera button, camera performance, and overall design of the handset.
Now the Galaxy...well, a lot of great reviews, awesome screen, cool interface, beautiful handset, plain and simple. My main disappointment has to be no flash and 'plasticy, elcheapo back cover.
What do you guys think? I come to xda for advice because its you guys know ur phones and I've gotten alot of valuable info from this site!.Much appreciation in advance!!!

My Galaxy S (captivate) has a metal back cover...maybe verizon's version is different. The GS has a ton of developers working for it!
yea, must be a little different over here, has pretty cheap frame. still, the same insides though...I decided to put everything on hold atm, would rather wait for a dual core device, spend a little extra outright, and save myself the commitment of a contract!
Sony will be releasing an update for the X10 to bring it onto Android 2.3 this summer

[Q] Best phone period

Im looking into picking a new phone, but like most of us I have a hard time deciding whats better to get after having the phone I thought was the greatest. So I Want to see what phone to get next, or what devices to consider, as well see what features to look for next, I was just happy when the Droid inc (1GHz processing power, 8MP Cam, and 512 MBs RAM) was announced and I still am when I look at and think about it. SO my question to the entire Community, What is the best phone, OS, ROM, Features, and why?
Phone EX: Nexus one, HTC EVO, HTC Touch Pro, LG Quantum
Custom built EX: HTC HD2 Running Windows phone 7,
Motorola Droid Running (Custom ROM or Stock)
or even a concept phone; 10MP Cam, Android 2.2, dual core, qwerty keyboard, etc.
Current:
PhoneInc, ROM:Incredible RMX 2
Tablet:Asus Transformer, ROM:Revolver
the only 2 phones worth considering are:
SGS2
Nexus 3
or wait another months for the next best phones to come out, but by then you can wait another 3 months, and then even better phones are around the corner
i made a spec sheet for iOS/Android/Windows phones in my sig.
please feel free to check it out and contribute if you can.
thanks.
hopefully this will help you in getting the right device this holiday season.

Incidentally, to make it easier for people (till you get enough posts to post links), just change the http to hxxp. That seems like a commonly accepted way of posting links that aren't links (and it's easier for people to correct in their address bar!)
Nexus 3 is what I'm waiting for.. .iphone 5 is sounding real sexy too at the moment. Seems like it will be the thinnest phone once it releases.on top of its sexy teardrop all aluminum design reminiscent of the MacBook air from what I've read (all speculations)Too bad ios sucks!
Sticking to android and probably give wp7 a try once better phones are out.

As much as I dislike HTC, the HTC titan is in a league of it's own as far as phones go. With processing power, it's not the absolute best. The thing is though, that only matters on an OS like android where it will only run remotely decent even with a top-end processor. Aside from that it sports a massive screen, ffc for video chat, solid body, up to 32 gigs internal, and most importantly windows phone 7. I'm sorry, but I don't buy high-end hardware to put an OS on it that was and is intended for crap hardware. My OS needs to keep up with me. Can I customize my phone to the point that it is unstable, slow, but reflects me? No. I can add numerous tiles with all kinds of pictures on a dynamic UI which totally beats a background image for me. Android is great if customization is your ONLY concern, for quality, speed, social integration, gaming, business, media, and pretty much anything else you'd be ripping yourself off if you went any way but the windows phone 7 way.
iphone5,next google phone
I honestly think that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best phone out there, befor i bought it i read tons of comparisons and articles
Nexus prime with ics !!!!!!
Nexus Prime is supposed to be coming out in the next 2 weeks WITH ICS!!!!
I would personally want the MIUI phone / M1 but I doubt it will make it out of China.

Whats the MIUI phone? the phone I used to want (though probably outdated now) was called the first else phone, and it was only sold in the middle east, but everyone seems to be on samsung now, I just cant be excited about that, esp since everything I would buy from them usually looks alot better than it preforms. The two phones that top my list now thou would be the Sensation XE, and the Rhyme(almost to the point where the color doesn't even matter)
But I have heard alot of good about the nexus prime. I just feel like if I actually knew how how to program it would be of that much more use to me.

Stay away from WM7 on an HD2 if you want the card slot to survive. It will kill the card slot. Mine, I can run WM7, but if I try to flash Android or other ROMs, the card slot won't work. WM7 runs from the card in the slot excessively and wears it out. WM7 just isn't worth it.
Imho I have used the Samsung epic and also the EVO 4g (not the 3d) and have noticed that the EVO is by far the best one out of the two... Also the most customizable in the sense if being able to switch from sense 3.0 to 3.5 and to asop...

well the only exception to your analogy is the sgs 2 or a totally stock/cyano/miui rom, according to my experience from my hd2 and captivate days. If it's sense, you can expect it to lagg, even when you have nothing on your homescreen.
That aside, I have to agree, WP7 is a great piece of work. Micro created a smooth, simple UI/OS that competes with apple in all those terms and maybe even better in some aspects. What Micro is "copying" from Apple is making phones that run on the "same specs". And the advantage to that is any app placed on the market will be able to run on all WP7 phones, unlike some android apps, which will work on a certain phone but not another.
What i don't like however is that really, all of them look the same (UI/appearance). It makes me feel like i don't have anything special. Which is the same with an iPhone(a stock one atleast). Atleast with android I can customize my status/notificaton bar, change my launcher layout/appearance, change certain effects e.g. overscroll glow to bouncy, change my lockscreen, change my icons, change my settings/menu appearance, which overall means i can have a phone that's different than the next or atleast appears different. (note also the lagg that you state coming from all this customization was atleast non apparent to me in my hd2 days, and for me now in my sgs 2)
Now I may be wrong about WP7 as i haven't even checked on the hacks/customization available since my HD2 days running WP7.
