I am finding my Menu button to not work when at teh default home screen, intermittently. Sometimes it doesn't work more than it does.
I thought maybe it was due to Launcher. I did a restore from one a couple back, and it was working again.
I've been working with TASKER a lot, and wonder if that could be affecting it.
I tried an uninstall of Tasker and that didn't help. Only the restore helped. But as noted, its back again.
I also had the volumne button not work earlier.
Maybe its a hardware problem.
Anyone else having this?
when I am at my default home screen my home button doesn't do anything, except vibrate. Though, I am using LauncherPro atm. The home button also doesn't do anything on my home screen in TouchWiz either...
It never did, I never thought it was supposed to do anything other than return you to the default homepage when you were away from it on the launcher.
It is the MENU button I am having problem with, not the HOME button.
The home button single click will take you to your default home screen. (I think it is changeable what it does in Launcher Pro).
I have about decided my problem is from teh latest version of Launcher Pro. I have restored to a previous version, and no problems at the moment. I actually have done this a couple times: Restored to old, worked OK, reinstalled latest, worked OK for a while and started acting up again.
this happened to my friend, after a stock reflash it worked fine...but ive read some people have to switch out their phones...
Hmmm...not sure what to do. My 30 days is up this weekend.
I am frustrated about the GPS stuff, and considering, albeit just barely, taking it back until that is resolved.
But maybe I should at least do an exchange. If I reflash and the button works (which it is working right now...I am on an older version of Launcher), then i'd have to use the GPS concerns to take it back.
Let's see: Keep it; exchange it; return it.
Decisions decisions...
I think it's the latest version of Launcher Pro that's the issue as well. I'm seeing the same exact behavior as you, and the easiest way to resolve it for me is to swipe over to a different home screen, THEN the menu button will work again for a while. I'm getting the haptic feedback when I press the menu button, but no menu popup, so it leads me to believe we're not having a hardware issue, but rather a strange bug with the latest Launcher Pro version.
Having the same issue after I installed the latest version of launcher pro. I am pretty confident that launcher pro is to blame here and not the phone hardware itself.
Someone needs to go to their forum and notify them of this problem. I don't have a userID over there.
I may try to get one set up.
I'm just pretty sure now that it is Launcher Pro. Lecmmada describes the symptoms the same as mine. If I use switcher, and switch to TouchWiz, it works fine.
[EDIT]
I registered and left a note in their bug section, and referenced this thread.
there is already a thread about this on their board. They are well aware of the issue.
Well, they have one more post on it then

Q: Why do I frequently end up going to a quick search when I hit the home or back keys?
I have a stock Capitvate running 2,1-update1 / i897UCJH7. FWIW, I'm using the Swype keyboard. I have a number of apps installed. This unit seems perfect in every way (GPS and everything else) except for the following:
Frequently, when I press either the "home" or "back" key, I end up looking at the keyboard and a "Quick Search Box" rather than the home screen or the previous screen. That's not right but even worse, it often appears I am in a loop; pressing either key again frequently does not take me back a screen or to the home screen.
This may be associated with Vlingo. If I force stop Vlingo, the problem is decidedly less frequent but it still occurs. Vlingo tech support will only say their program should run on any Eclair unit although they do not specifically support the Captivate.
I have disabled all of the search options on the phone thinking search is popping up by design. I suppose I could uninstall Vlingo for a final test but I thought if I stopped the program that would eliminate it from consideration.
Maybe I'm missing something somewhere and I'd appreciate your helping me figure out what it is. Thanks in advance.

If you do full reset and run the phone with no apps installed and it still occurs, it is the phone and you should exchange it for a new one. Others have experienced this, and many times the only recourse is replacing the phone.
restore it first
I had that happen on one that got lost. I thought it was from staying in my pocket and stuff pressing up against the buttons and wearing them out.

Hello!
I'm experiencing some problems with my o2 Touch Pro.
Hardware buttons on the bottom of the phone (d-pad, home, back, call, end call) are not working properly (they work fine only 20% of the time, it's random i guess).
When i press "call" button, device responds as if i pressed the "left" button. It's very annoying. The circle used to zoom in, and out around the "enter" button is problematic as well. It zooms - but but in a very chatoic way - a bit of of zoom in, then zoom out, another zoom in. Functions are just messed up.
Another time, it's all working...
How can i fix it? Is it a hardware problem?
I'm using the Energy Rom - titanium version.
Thanks for your help in advance...
Honestly, if you can't deal with it, get another device. Either that or stick with the stock ROM, less problematic (you can also keep the full function of the d-pad) but then again it may introduce other issues. Someone mentioned this being more a hardware than a software issue. Since I cannot reproduce this on my at&t Fuze, that is all I can suggest on my end.
I get some of that with my fuze; mostly, the d-pad doesn't read gestures properly. If I run compact heaps (from sk tools) periodically, it helps. Soft resetting obviously helps as well. I think it's more of a hardware issue. My problems have definitely gotten worse over time. You can also check out this tool (from an HTC test rom dump; can't remember where I got it). It's a debugger for the d-pad. At least you can see how accurately the button presses and gestures work.
Thanks.
Hi!
My Nexus S sometimes doesn't react to the home-button correctly. Anyway, I don't think this is a hardware-bug, because the haptic feedback works! I touch the home-softkay and feel the haptic feedback, but nothing happens. I can repeat it, it stays the same. When I long-press it, the recent apps appear. After that I can return to the homescreen. Or I can touch the screen and tap home again - then it will work, too. Another way is tapping home several times, until it finally works.
And like I said: It's not the button, haptic feedback appears!
Anyone else with this issue?
Greetings
McDV
Never happened to me. Which launcher do you use?
Greetz
Stock Launcher. First I used CM7 with Go Launcher, but then thought it was something with CM7, so I switched back to stock 2.3.6 with stock launcher.
Seems to me like it doesn't happen that often anymore, but sometimes it still does...
hey guys, i noticed today that sometimes when i press the home button to wake the phone it doesnt react...when i press it again it works normally....this happened to me two times....did anyone see this?
That sounds like a hardware issue. The home button synthesize sensor must not be recognizing the pressure you are applying to the button. Did this happen after a software update?
I'm having the same issue with the home button being super spotty and straight not registering when I push the home button. This is super irritating. I constantly have to press the button and sit like an idiot while it does nothing, then press again.

i tried now to see if this is happening when i am pressing the sides of the home button...and yes...it looks like sometimes i press the sides thats why it doesnt work....but the thing is my home button is a bit loose...so its easy to hit the sides...
I had the S4 and the Note 3. Never had a problem. If I press the button and it clicks it should work.

Hmm that could be a number of things. It could be the hardware. It could be the update that you've installed that is causing wake lock on the device. Since your phone is covered by the one year limited warranty, I think you should contact Samsung and request an exchange/replacement. You can, however, try a factory reset to see if the wake lock problem goes away.
Ok I've been able to replicate the problem 100% if I choose. It is most definitely a hardware problem. If the home button is pressed on the left corner of the button it fully depresses and even clicks. But it doesn't register as so.
Definitely a hardware issue.
My phone had this issue as well where it wouldnt register soft clicks or off center taps and I would regularly get missed presses when using the phone (unless I pressed the button hard). I had verizon send me a replacement. The new phone just showed up, and the home button works almost perfectly. I can still get it to not register if I try really hard to push extremely lightly, on the very edge of the button with my finger nail, but its easily 100x better than the previous one.
The new button is also almost silent while the old one made kind of a cheap plastic click sound like it rattled slightly. It also feels like it requires a tad less force to press than the old button. The old button I could easily recreate the issue 100% of the time by just pressing lightly or pressing off center and it would regularly bother me while using the phone.
Buttons don't work

Here is a "solution" that has worked for me. My S6 is the Verizon variant, but I think these steps will work on any Service Provider.
Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Assistant menu
From here, toggle the switch to "ON". This will create a hovering circle with a window with four panes inside it. If you interactive with the hovering circle it will open a new window in which you have access to the back and recent apps buttons via an onscreen button.
Not sure what has disabled the hardware buttons, but this should give you access via onscreen software.
I know it's not a true fix, but a work around.
If someone finds a true fix, please post it! But in the meantime ...
I hope this helps!
Hello,
I had a S6 and after 4 days I noticed loose home button: it made noise the tap on it (not press). And also didn't registered clicks on the left side.
I exchange it for another and this one is almost perfect. I notice the left side of the butto to be a bit pressed. Anyway, I suspect a harware issue.

My home button stopped working all together right after an update. How can I remove this issue? Every thing else works perfectly. Please help!
I have issues with my home button as well, it's "loose" and rattling. It has always been a bit loose but the last few months it has gotten worse and worse, it started to require more and more pressure to register the press (way beyond the pressure needed for it to *click*). As of now it does not even work at all, no matter how hard I try pressing it.
I've tried the assistant menu that's mentioned here in the thread but I just find the menu annoying. Instead I have learned to live with it for the time being, I just multitask to instagram or facebook and then spam the back button until I'm back at home.
100% hardware issue.
Apparently it's possible to replace the home button, and there are replacement home button to buy from ebay, but the replacement procedure is ridiculuos. The home button is basically the last thing you will demount from the phone when disassembling it.
I found a temporary fix by dabbing the home button with Isopropyl, this made it like new again. But two days later it's back to as it was before, or maybe even worse.
Annoying as hell, especially since this is a result of poor quality control from Samsung.
Update: Found a nice little app on play store called "button remapper" which lets me rebind the default system buttons without requiring root, i have rebinded the "recent apps" button to act as a home button instead, and a long press opens the regular "recent apps". Seems to be an alright workaround.
Just go to samsung shop, let them see,if no exchange or replace or fix, take their demo phones like s8 (2017) throw on to the floor and then take any phone u want, leave the s6 phone alone (make sure it is factory reseted).Ran away and shout #ALLAHUAKBAR!
Hi everyone,
For the past few weeks now, the Home button on my navigation bar has become less responsive, or I should say, sometimes it just doesn't work in some applications, but not always the same applications. Same for the button with the three horizontal bars (I can't remember what it's called, sorry).
The only button that works consistently is the Back button, thankfully, otherwise I'd be stuck on the same app until I turn to dust...
Is it an issue others here have experienced, and if so, how did you solve it if you did?
I seem to remember a setting that would make the touchscreen more or less receptive to inputs, but I can't find it anymore.

I've tried that in the past, on this phone and on others, but I don't like it. Maybe I'm too clumsy, I don't know, but for me it's hit-or-miss more often than not, so I stick to using my three buttons.
Do you know where I can find this setting on touchscreen sensitivity?
Maybe my problem comes from Microsoft Launcher after all, because I've reverted to the system launcher and so far, no worries.

Nova beta did the same to me.
Yeah, maybe that's it, but up until now MS Launcher was working fine. Strange. I'll leave things as they are for now and I'll keep you posted. Thanks and have a great weekend!
