No, you will not be charged for it.
I should remind you that this is piracy, which is not encouraged.
arrrg shiver me timbers
only downside also to taking a apk on a torrent or whateve u will rarely get updates...more likely none

Thanks for answers, everything seems to be ok and resonable
Btw any good app for VPN (cisco) does not meter if has to be paid as long that work propertly?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i am not condoning piracy, but yes it is possible to just download an app from the web. appbrain does a good (but accidental) job of telling you when they need updates. you will need to find another version online though to manually update.
applanet is baisically all this but inside a single app. it is a pirated android market. once again, i dont encourage piracy, niether do i use it.

As someone who develops Android apps - please just go pay for it. We put a lot of effort into making these things and it's only a few dollars. The dollar you just saved was food you just took off someones table.
That said, any Android developer worth his salt should have already implemented the Market License feature. The new license model can remotely validate that your copy is legit and allows the developer to respond how they choose.
In my apps, I lock you out and show a nag screen with a market link... but I know some devs who just quietly phone home with your device ID and phone number.

Hey everyone. I'm fairly new around here and I've much enjoyed the helpful information that has been generously dished out by everyone. So I'm trying to contribute some of what I can. And I'm looking for feedback on my idea.
I've created a custom search engine through Google, and I've been collecting a few of the Droid hacking websites I've come across in my learning about my own phone (A sturdy Droid X that should soon be spinning its first ROM). I've been using the search engine lately and it's done a pretty good job at rooted out information over various sources.
So what I'm looking for is feedback on the general idea, and if anyone knows of any good sites that I've left out of my blossoming database it would be much appreciated. I've included a linked Google Doc that lists all the sites currently in the database.
The engine is hosted on my wiki and is open to the world for use.
droid-search.wikispaces.com <That's my wiki.
Very cool, I dig it.
Thanks! it went so long without reply I thought maybe I had made something worthless

That would be great! I don't have many on there yet but I hope everyone is getting some use out of it.
bumping for some renewed/new interest.
If you guys like the site, please hit the Google Plus one button the top left corner of the site so I know
Tablified.com - [tab * li * fied] -verb. 1. apps that have been specifically made for Android tablets.
Well, after days of working on the site, its finally here. It's not perfect, but I think android tablet owner are going to enjoy this.
One of the biggest flaws with the Android Market is that there really isn't a dedicated section for tablet apps. Phone apps get thrown in the pile with tablet apps and its just impossible to find tablet SPECIFIC apps.
Many developers say their apps are "optimized" for tablets which, at first sounds great. But sadly, most of the time the app is just adjusted to fit better on a larger screen without adding any new features or tablet specific UI elements.
This is where Tablified.com comes in. Each app is tested to insure that it really is a tablet specific app. While I want to give credit to XDA and the Xoomforums for providing me with a list of apps, I found out that many of those apps aren't really tablet specific. There are currently over 50 apps on the site and more added every day. If you have an app, please use the "Submit an app" link on the site and let me know what the app is; if it meets the requirement, I'll add it to the list.
Tablified.com does NOT allow you to purchase the app. I simply links back to the Android market for you to complete the transaction. What I do is list up as many apps as I can find, after testing each one of course. I am very critical about which apps go up because I want users to only see tablet SPECIFIC apps-that's why games are currently not available. Until I see the same version of "Burn the rope" that's available on the iPad for Android tablets, you won't find it on my list-this goes for many other games.
We have a couple of people working on the site and are recruiting people to help. If you know how to use wordpress and would like to join the team, then please PM me. I apologize if there are any errors on the site. I did my best. If there are any errors, please leave a comment on the app and I will fix it ASAP.
We have big plans coming soon. Can't same much now, but I think its something to look forward to. Sorry for making this so long, but I hope everyone enjoys the site. Ads are there to help pay for the hosting-sorry, no ad-free version
Cool Site.. I love what you are doing with it. I'll be sure to keep this page in mind when browsing. Maybe set up an RSS feed when a new app is added so I can see it on Pulse.
MOTO XOOM.

Maybe I'm missing it, but a top downloaded section would be nice, maybe a top downloaded for the week, most popular list, etc. Or exporting the ratings from the market and displaying that.

thanks for your feedback. the only way that i can do a "top downloaded section" would be if people start voting on the site. this is accomplished by simply rating it using the stars icons . if you guys dont rate then i cant display the top rated app/game etc. I had a section for that kinda stuff but because the vote count was low and it didnt look pretty so it didnt seem worthwhile to keep it. so once you guys start voting then i can make a place for it. this is only the first month of the site being released so maybe next month ill put it in. in the mean time, you can scoll to the bottom on the homepage to see the most viewed app.
as for the rating, i dont think theres a way to do that. but each app has a widget at the bottom of the page that has the market link as well as the rating it received on the Android Market. if you guys like the app, simply rate it by pressing the stars just like you would on the official market.
please keep the suggestions coming.

Although Lotus looks ok on tablets, its not a tablet specific nor tablet optimized app. You can find more detail about the requirements on the FAQ section.

Can't find any decent gallery app, anyone seen any with super fancy effects similar to the honeycomb Youtube app?
Its not tablets its Honeycomb
I was excited when I saw a posting about this thread until I actually went to the site. It really isn't a site listing apps designed for the larger, landscape real estate of a tablet but actually a site listing apps that are fully integrated for Android 3.0+ (Honeycomb) instead. There are plenty of tablets that run Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 like the one I'm typing on right now. I would appreciate apps that are designed for a tablet as much as the nearest Xoom user.
Quite the disappointment :-(

This was the old thread when I was beta testing my app. You can actually check out the new thread to download the app and leave feedback! No need to apply or request beta, the app is already out now. Thanks for checking it out!

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for people to beta test my app before I release it to the market. InstaWifi is an Android app that uses NFC and QR codes to connect to your wifi networks instantly. Watch the video below for a more in-depth overview of what it does. If it sounds interesting, please apply to be a beta tester so I can fix any bugs and receive feedback before launching.
Beta testers will receive a free NFC sticker for them to keep!
Link to the app on the Play Store
Please follow through to the YouTube video to find links to screenshots and the beta tester applications.

Haha it's actually a Droid X, EVEN OLDER. Glad to hear that my janky old Android phone is still useful.
Thanks ATZ-007, I agree, having hotels/cafes implement this would be a godsend.
This app seems very useful. Can't wait to actually test it .
Thanks Dathen for your interest! I'll let you guys know in a few days, the response has been overwhelming!
This may be a stupid question, but could someone with an iOS device have this work by scanning the QR code? I have an Android phone (Nexus S), but most of my friends have iPhones. If not, I'd still like to help test using just my own phone.
Add the ability to have a tag right by my door to disable wifi as I'm leaving also and this app will be a smash with me...
Nice job jesse, let us know when it's out!

Hey jmoten88, thats a good question. I followed the QR code format here as specified by zxing. As far as I know this is only supported in the Barcode Scanner app by Zxing. Now, if there is an app on iPhone that follows this format to connect to WiFi, assuming that the WiFi API is similar on iOS, then yes, the QR codes generated by InstaWifi would work on iPhones. However, I think there is no app that does that as of now.
Thanks Mark!
(and this is 10 posts, phew, I can finally post outside links now hopefully)
Will this app require that all phones have the app installed to use the NFC sticker?
I just posted this over on r/Android, and I felt XDA would be a good place to put it as well. Recently, there have been a few apps that have been reported to Reddit so that we could get massive reports sent to Google and have the apps and developers removed. However, I felt this way would be a little more efficient. Please feel free to check out the comments over on that post as well as these, although I'm sure they will be roughly the same.
I'd include the link to the post on Reddit, but I haven't made enough posts on XDA to be allowed to include external links. Simply search 'Clean Up' in r/Android and click 'Sort By' > New, and it should pop up. Thanks for your time everyone, and I look forward to seeing whether this can be a success.
We are all aware that the Play Store sucks. Especially over the past couple of days. People are taking proactive steps to clean it up, but sooner or later, we are going to get sick of seeing these PSAs announcing all of the crap Devs. To counter this problem of constant posting to r/Android, I've created [email protected], as well as a Google Spreadsheet (check r/Android for links, I haven't posted enough here to include external links) to keep track of all of these apps that you guys help report for abusing the rules of the less knowledgable.
I'm sure a majority of you are more than easily capable of spotting these bad apps, but following are a few types of apps in particular that really irk me:
+Improve your WiFi!
+Fake or copy games like we've seen the last couple of days here
+All those blasted Gangnam Style photo booth and other knock-off type apps
+Emulators that are just absolutely and completely riddled with ads and are therefore unusable
+WiFi 'hackers'
+Jumping Boobs / Ass / other sex apps (c'mon guys, it's called pornhub or xvideos)
+Cell phone signal boosters
+Etc, etc... I'm sure you all know which apps to report here
So, if you guys think this is a good idea, please help everyone out by contributing the bad apps you find to [email protected] in the following format:
Developer Name:
Application Name:
Link to Application on Play Store:
Reason for Flagging ( Sexual content , Graphic violence, Hateful or abusive content, Harmful to device or data, Other objection):
If other, why?:
Every Saturday, I'll report back here with the spreadsheet, or you can just report them if you get board throughout the week, either way will work. I think this is a useful alternative to a separate subreddit, as I think creating would simply result in the same fate as many other 'sub'subreddits do.
I think this can be a really cool way to show Google how moderating their product can improve its quality, even if just ever so slightly. Let the moderation begin.
Sounds like a great idea. Looking forward to the growth of this.

Same here. Maybe even an app could come of it? That would be pretty sweet IMO.
Just to make sure, is this post in the right place? Also, am I replying correctly? My apologies if not, I'm an XDA posting n00b.
