[HOW-TO] Translucent notification tray background in Froyo - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

See post #53 for guide. Credit to ghostrida! Awesome work!
This has only been verified to work on DEODEXED ROMs.
NOTICE: THE services.jar MOD ONLY ALLOWS FOR THE BACKGROUND PNG TO SHOW TRANSLUCENCY.
YOU MUST EDIT YOUR OWN status_bar_backgound.png AND MAKE IT TRANSLUCENT AS WELL AS MAKE THE NECESSARY services.jar MOD
This is my 65% black...(PNG is attached)

That's great, but many of us would like to know how to do it so we can accomplish it on other Froyo based ROMs.

Are you guys talking about something like this?

That's it Bro! Nice.... Now offer up some answers

I see you Rip... cant wait!!
Sent from my HTC Evo

Shhhh... I am incognito LOL

Here are the files needed for transparent notification drop down not flashable through recovery

So it a different services.jar file
Question: If I am using the custom services.jar that removes the clock will this overwrite it?

im afraid it will

Hey sorry for the late reply, but yea, it's the service.jar file.

Thanks guys... working on it now

I dont know why but it leaves squares in the pull down but thats what i found just surfing around in this site.

Ok, so we have 2 services.jar files .... 1 for no clock and 1 for transparent pulldown.
Who do we know here that can merge the two?

Not exactly. Your background image in the tray pull down is full of lines while the background wallpaper is clear.

That's closer, but still not quite it, those lines would drive me nuts. NO offense. But I like the progress being made.
Here is an example of a translucent tray, this is what I mean: (it's a 2.1 MOD of course)

Also, as stated in the OP, I'm not asking for someone to make this MOD for me necessarily. But rather some information of HOW and WHAT to change to make that notification tray background translucent.

The translucent tray is cool if we can figure out how to do it, but what about the notification bar too? That would make a killer combination!

Well if we can figure out how to set translucence, the notification bar will be easy.

the squares are being caused by the actual png. it has white lies around it. i will post a fixed png for ya in a sec.

remove notification bar icons?

Hey yall,
This may very well be a noob question, so i apologize in advance if so.
I am interested in removing a few icons from the right side of the notification bar, as seen on the home screen (as opposed to having the notification bar pulled down).
I read on the G1 forum that trying to replace these with an inconsistent set of icons (say, 100 different PNG's for each percent) yielded no success. But I just want to remove both the battery icons as well as the alarm icon.
the main reason for this removal is one, i downloaded an app from the market that has the % in an icon on the left side of the notification bar (search for 'battery indicator'; should be free) and i always have my alarm on, and check it in the application.
so my question is, is it possible to do this? If so, which files do i need to remove?
seriously? not even one reply? wow xda, im pretty saddened by this...
Bump
It would be nice to unclutter the status bar
Mostly no one has probably replied because you cant get rid of them. You could get replace the current PNGs with completely transparent ones. But then you'd just have a big blank spot between the signal status and the time.
thats what i thought i would hear. thanks for your reply

Couldn't you make the png 1 pixel by 1 pixel and transparent. THen you really couldn't tell it was missing.

I have a apk ready I can test this with real quick.
I'll report back
well, using a 1x1 transparent image did the trick with getting them to vanish, didn't break anything.
However, the 1x1 didn't seem to matter either, there is a gap, but it still looks good.

I just took the current image and made it 100% transparent.
could also replace the file with a 1x1 transparent image.
either way yields the same results.
if you still want the file, pm me and I'll link it.
+1 for the ability to get rid of some icons, the clock and battery indicator in particular.
I have trouble getting the Curvefish battery widget to update properly. Running Fresh 1.1 with MDK 1.2

[MORPH] Better Charging Battery Icon

No, you need to install metamorph.
After installed, place .zip file in your AndroidThemes folder on your phone.
Use metamorph to install.

Maybe someone can come along and help with this?
havent done it but i belive you need to replace an xml file to change text color.
Yes, you have to make changes to some files. Its not so easy. User know- fear has made a great tutorial for this.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Updated 5/26/10 with new version supporting Fresh 2.1.2. See Here for download.
First person to notice what's different about the content of this screenshot wins (not regarding the Rosie/Launcher).
Some people were talking about doing this, so I wanted to see if it was possible, turns out it is .

That was fast . You win for being the fastest typer. Not sure of the value, but wanted to see what it might take to do. Any interest out there for this? It does give more room for other "stuff" if nothing else.
clock is gone, and all the icons are pushed over to the right... awesome
how far over do the notifications go?

It's an edit to a framework .jar file, and my .jar file has additional edits for the white taskbar/notification menu, so it's difficult to distribute.
I could probably do 2 versions. One if your notifications drop down menu is stock, another if it is AOSP style, and thus has some font/button tweaks, like mine.

It doesn't have to be a MetaMorph for this change, as we are not updating a handful of files in an apk/jar file. In this instance, we are replacing the whole thing.
That is one of the challenges in distributing.

I'm pretty sure the only way would be by modifying the framework xml files, which would probably make it theme dependent as you would more than likely need to edit some that get compiled into resources.arsc, meaning you need any additions from the theme in your working folder when you compile.
Where's the screenshot from? Looks nice and if you had the framework for it I'd gladly sort out something for the X10.
There may be an app out there that can do this, but I have my doubts.

Anyone find this out? I'd like to change the font of my clock in my notification bar..
I'm pretty savvy with the Android OS, have done my own metamorph's and mod's for awhile.. I just can't seem to find where the clock is stored.
