Hello,
I upgraded to the unofficial leaked HTC froyo and desperately wait both root and possibly upgrade to OTA 2.2 (or downgrade.) I went to do the prl hack described in another thread which was exceedingly useful and found that ##PRL# doesn't work. This has been commented on a few times in various threads in the last few days.
Someone in one of the threads briefly commented on it but the knowledge doesn't seem to have been picked up by everyone.
I was able to update my prl to a file of my choosing using the demo of CDMA Workshop. Follow the instructions to setup CDMA Workshop in the thread covering how to get your MSL#. After getting your Evo running and connected to CDMA Workshop, go to the "Other" tab, click write in the PRL subcategory and select the prl file located on your computer. Disconnect, restart your phone and it should say the new prl# in the About Phone stuff.
edit: i am retarded
^i couldnt agree more.

can OP or mod change the title of this to [HOW TO] Change PRL on FroYo or something similar please. slightly uninformative title currently. thanks.
edit: nice title change
This tutorial is in the "General" Section
Just to let you guys know...this method doesn't work if you're running CM6. When trying to write the PRL, you get this error: "60669.prl is not a valid PRL file"

yah, because CM6 isn't based off of the OTA 3.26.651.6 build.
anything based off of that build should have no issues.
this is why i stick to ROMs that are really close to stock. never have any issues.
I'm on Flipz Rom and my. Prl updated just fine
sent with my evo from a secret place
i just did a nandroid backup of my cm6 install. flashed over the rooted froyo official long enough to update the PRL then restored the cm6.

I did the same thing to update PRL. I started out running CM6 nightly builds, currently running CM6 RC1. Did a nandroid backup, then restored Fresh 1.0.1 and updated PRL from 60662 to 60668. After that I restored CM6 RC1.

I noticed a number of people having troubles with 4g and the latest update. I cannot account for other ROMS since I usually only use DC but I was able to resolve the issue.
The issue seems to be related to the latest version of the wimax radio. Calkulin has put together a very nice post with all of the current/previous versions of the radios that are available for the EVO. The latest version of the Wimax Radio did not work with either of DC's ROMS. Thus, I do not believe the problem lies with the ROM. Granted I was able to use the previous version of the Wimax Radio (EVO_WiMAX_25043_R04) and it did work.
Be sure to also update both your PRL and the PROFILE and REBOOT. This worked for me I hope it works for you.
Calkulin's Thread: [Radios] All EVO Radio & WiMAX Radio versions
Great find
Thank YOU!!
P.S to those that will flame for this post not being in DC thread:
You read through a gazillion pages of the thread then come back and flame.
the problem is flashing wimax. new wimax radio from ruu does nto flash properly with any method
*edit* didnt mean this to be "depressing" try whislacks starting over method to get onto the new radio, then flash a recovery console, then dc. this also seems to work for most people..
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/jul3update
When the WiMAX radio image is flashed using flash_image (or something equivalent to it), then certain important pieces of WiMAX data get overwritten due to a design flaw in Sprint's firmware where these data are inadequately protected from modification. The official over-the-air update (OTA) does not destroy these data because it uses undocumented functionality that transfers them to the new firmware before reflashing. Some of these data can be recreated, but at this time, we do not have the capability to recreate all of these data. When these data are not present on the phone, the radio appears to crash when it connects to the WiMAX network.

I have wimax working perfectly on 3.2.3 with latest wimax, so you shouldn't go stating uninformed opinions, especially when you admitted you didn't read most of the thread.
Everything you need is on the first page of the DC thread in post 2. If only thread had something like "Check post #2 for updates" or something like that in the title this could all be avoid....oh wait....
Edit: And reverting back to old wimax files is a suboptimal solution, when there is a working solution for newest wimax.
this needed a whole new thread ?

welcome to last week!
I have 4G working just fine on 3.2.3 and I'm using the latest wimax update.
4G issues resolved
I also had many problems with 4g. Tried every method....Ran simpleroot from start to finish, loaded dc 3.2.2.1 and went though the steps in the dc post (10 step process) and it finally worked...easy way to (re)move the .tree.xml file is to load android mate and goto file explorer, hit the back button and goto /data/misc/wimax and delete the file. update the profile and prl and reboot...it should work as it did for me....good luck to all
i got my 4g work with dc 3.2.3 with the (re)move the mac.tree.xml file and update the PRL, then reboot phone and have the mac.tree.xml file regenerate.
so far, i have no problem at all.
Does anyone know where I could download the stock Alltel 2.1 rom for the hero? If not is there a good sprint rom around here that will still allow me to activate the hero and update prl etc???
Thanks!
Try Krome
My friend, who has an alltel hero, had success updating his prl on the KromE rom.
krome is built from the ACG 2.1 update. alltell is in the ACG so its the same ruu as the alltell stock....

Found that, now I cant get gmail/contacts to sync.
So I've rooted my phone already, I had updated to the .6 Sprint release and went back to .5 and used that method. My wife's Hero is still on 1.5. I'd like to be able to back up all of her apps before flashing a custom ROM.
My question, is there any drawback to rooting from 1.5 and then installing a custom ROM like Regaw's, or Fresh, or Nfinite's, or CM6? Am I able to do this without first running the .5 RUU? Will I need to manually upgrade the radio if I do this?
Sorry for all the questions, I know how to find all of these root methods, but not sure what method is best to make sure I get everything updated and running properly.
Thanks!

You do not need to ruu at all unless you have to take your phone in for service under warranty.
No problems at all. Once you are rooted and have recovery installed you can flash away. Just remember to wipe EVERYTHING in between flashings. It will save u a ton of annoyances.
My opinion is go straight to CM6 it is amazingly fast and stable. Just in case you dont know the link to the IRC channel for CM6 here it is: http://webchat.bikcmp.com:9090/?channels=hero-cdma
Welcome to the HERO and be careful. Flashing is VERY addictive.
Ok, so I just purchased a rooted G2x off of ebay. I'm coming from a moto cliq (yes, make fun of me) So i'm a bit over my head when it comes to custom ROMs and such. I'm on 2.2.2, and need to know what I should do.....
I've been having some data connection issues even if i'm on Wifi, the connection will just drop and won't come back for about 15 seconds. It's getting pretty bad, and i'm exasperated atm.
Do I upgrade to the LG 2.3.3? I don't want to lose my camera's features.
Do I install CM7? will that fix any of the touch screen issues and connection drops?
In your opinion, what would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm open for all suggestions.
I would go for the update because it updates the baseband which deals with radio signals and may help with your connectivity issues, i would TRY CM7 for a bit and see how it goes. You can backup in Clockword Mod Receovery and when you restore to that backup you will have exactly what you backed up from. So backup on 2.3.3 --> install CM7 --> try it out for a few days ---> restore if you dont like/keep if you do.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still a bit confused though, when you say install 2.3.3 and backup(is that the stock 2.3.3 from LG>). Does that mean i'll lose my root? and I was under the impression that CM7 was GB, just a custom build with root permissions.
Lastly, how would I install the LG froyo camera?
Thanks for the help

Doing the official update may help because it upgrades your baseband.
You'll lose root until you restore you CM7 backup.
CM7 is GB but there is no way to update the baseband currently (that I know of) without doing the update.
You can't currently on CM7.

Again thanks for the quick reply. If i used CWM via NvFlash to backup my current image(2.2.2 rooted) and then updated to 2.3.3 via LG GB. Would I be able to go back to my 2.2.2 rooted if I didn't like 2.3.3?
Thanks to both

You would be able to. But I was suggesting that you update to 2.3.3 (official) and then install Clockword mod recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847&highlight=clockworkmod) Then backup from there (2.3.3) and flash CM7 (based off of 2.3.5) and if you dont like THAT then restore to stock 2.3.3.
Another option would be to update --> install clockwork mod---> flash this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748) Which is a rooted GB. This would leave you with a stock 2.3.3 ROOTED, if you like the stock.
Overall I'd definitely go for CM7 though. More features just great overall. Also if you're looking to overclock then it IS possible with the stock GB thanks to Faux (http://twitter.com/#!/faux123) flash the latest G2x kernel on his twitter. Then you can overclock.
Bottom line I would just backup your current 2.2.2, install 2.3.3 through the LG updater (be careful following instructions in doing so) and just flash different ROMs and see which ones cure your issues best and which suits you best.

Yes. After the official update you will have to flash clockworkmod recovery again, but then you can flash any rom you want.
running the latest CM11 nightly, update PRL function does not work. so i grabbed a stock rom, flashed it updated prl (theres a new one) and restored my cm11 backup. guess what, prl did not stick, its back to 55016 instead of 55017. isnt it supposed to? why i cant update prl?
