hey i have a google ion that i would like to put on the hero rom. i heard that you can get the full hero rom and just put it on your sd card and run it. i heard that you don't even need to have your phone rooted or unlocked or anything.

Your phone is unlocked but you definitely needs your phone to be rooted.

Ya I know ion is unlocked already, so do I have to run spl? Will the fatal1ty rom work on the ion? Cuz they're both Google branded rite? Yes I'm a noob to android. I was using windows mobile for so long before this, it seems to be a little different.
no all you need to do is flash the modified recovery image to the phone and use fatal1ty's great hero rom update.zip and flash. you will be up and running then.
so i use the Amon_RA modded recovery? then select fatal1ty's rom from the sd card and it's done? sorry bout all the questions, but i really would rather not brick my phone! thanx for your help

I have applied a number of SPL, ROM and Radio changes. The radio in particular concerns me as I think I may have flashed the G1 version instead. If so this might explain why I'm having issues with Gmail not auto-synching.

I wonder if it's the SPL that is causing me the grief? I have loaded Haykuro's Engineering SPL HBOOT-1.33.2005 signed update which I just noticed was for PVT-32A boards.
But the Google ION is a 32B board.
Could this explain why 3G is choppy and I no longer receive Gmail auto-synch, I wonder? Currently I have to force it on wireless network to get my emails. Yet strangely enough web browse and apps use internet 3g fine. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
And if I apply Engineering SPL HBOOT-1.33.2004 signed update does that mean I can no longer loadup the Hero ROMs?
More questions than answers
Your engineering SPL will let you flash any modded ROM (for 32B board). I didn't change my Ion SPL and I have flashed many different ROM's (Rogers, Hero, and modded Ion).
Wow. WOW. I flashed the Engineering SPL HBOOT-1.33.2004 and straight away my Gmail synchs. I email from my Yahoo, bam Gmail on ION finds it.
A huge warning then to those with Google ION phones: Do NOT flash haykuro's latest SPL on to your phone!*
Instead use your provided SPL or flash 32B-only SPLs like 2004. Here's what my phone now states:

I've currently been rooted for over 4 months now... first with cyanogen
then moved over to SUPER D... And iv been following that ROM since v1.2
now currently on his newest ROM v1.8...

this was before i downgraded my SPL to 1.33.2005

My advice to you is, whichever one boots, you flash
fastboot boot nameoftherecovery.img
If it boots, flash it. Flashing recovery images is very safe, so don't sweat it.
Don't ask in a dev forum next time

G recovery has been working fine so I'll stay with it, unless theres any gains to be made by using the H.

I was wondering if anybody has had any problems running SuperD with the original SPL? Because I can't find any downloadable file for the original .0006 version, and don't want to void my warranty. I was thinking about installing SuperD 1.9.2, but it also sys it requires the .0005 Danger spl. Any thoughts?

if you flash the needed spl and every have to send in to warranty... when u unroot the spl goes back to the original...

Have you tried this yourself? I can't see how flashing an spl would automatically be able to revert back to a previous version.

I have the EXACT same readout as you, and I am able to flash EVERY ROM there is, the 0006 SPL is fine, dont change it
i think ENG (engineering) S-OFF (SECURITY OFF) is what they mean, you have an engineering spl.If you want to return to unrooted magic you need to flash an original sappimg.NBH which you can find all over these forums

rooting your phone is voiding the warranty;
thats why they have Guides to unroot incase anything goes wrong
so you will be able to return it without them knowing anything about voiding ur warranty...
as far as flashing or not flashing your spl... i cant help you out there.
but from my experience in reading and what im currently running.
flashing the spl makes it possible to flash anyrom, etc.
i never flashed super d rom until i flashed my spl. so i wouldnt know if it works without it.
i have been running super d since 1.0xx or 1.2 fersure.
now if u do flash ur spl which in my expreience if running super d is a defiant yes. you make sure you fllash the correct one!...
if your running a mt3g and need further assistance on getting correct downloads, ill point you in the right direction..
Thanks for the support. I've already found out that my .0006 is already an ENG spl, and I do not need to flash it to load custom ROMs. I have already tried SuperD, Fastest, Kingklick's, Cyanogen, MLIGN, and Enomther's ROMs. All work. After testing all these ROMs from Android 1.5 to 1.6 to 2.1, I am still looking for the perfect ROM.
I want something that is fast and stable as 1.6 ROMs, which have 1.) all the functionality as stock, 2.)has the Hero htc widgets, dialer, and facebook sync. If anyone know where I can find this PLEASE let me know. I keep running into pros and cons with each ROM, and just need to stick with something already.

so whatever rom you choose make sure iits a stable rom...
and as far as pros/cons
just take note that with every ROM theres ganna be NEW RELEASES.
out of every rom, i suggest super d rom.
never any forcloses.., never any issues..
now i havent ran cyanogen for alongtime, never since i switchd to super d.
but i recommend him as 2nd choice in roms. but recommend him 1st in knowing what he knows.. he's the only dev. that i know and have seen thats ahead of the game, and knows the game. hands down.
im honestly awaiting a 2.1 STABLE release with no errors.
but thats still far from being developed...
Mods: This is in the dev forum for a reason. Q&A gets nothing done. I'm asking for a dev to hop on this project, or someone who has access to creating new articles on an existing Android Wiki such as Cyanogenmod Wiki. I think we can use a database, on xda or otherwise.
This isn't the first time a legitimate post has been moved from the dev forum. Do I have to put DEV REQUEST in full?
Just today I downgraded my device to HardSPL, but I couldn't find any information on whether or not my phone would work with HardSPL. Flashing the HBOOT and radio is a risk process, because a wrong combination can brick a phone.
So I am requesting for a list of working HBOOT and radio combination to be setup in a wiki or something like giant chart.
It would be nice to be able to simply input the device id and have the form return a list of compatible HBOOT and radio combinations or vice versa.
Or alternately just what DOESN'T work.
Would I have more luck asking on Android Spin?
We all know that SPL 1.33.2005 doesn't work with the 1 series radio. Does Hardspl with the 3 series radio? Does SPL 1.76.0009 work on Dreams?

Lately I have been trying to flash Hero & Expresso rom's on my device just to see the MyTouch freeze at the Green Splash Screen not even giving Hero the light of day....
I happen to get Legend working once but after removing it from my device Legend doesn't even reflash... same thing with a MyTouch Slide Alpha Rom.
Has my device semi-bricked or something? How can I fix this issue?
Current Configuration:

SPL: Danger SPL / Latest Radio

I don't really have a clue what could cause your problem.
But, I'd like to offer my 2 cents based on the info you've given...
I can only assume you're doing a fully wipe between attempts of different ROMs?
You also shouldn't need to change your SPL - shouldn't have flashed Danger in the first place (and Death is same as Danger) - the stock SPL would have been fine.
Try reformatting your SD... I hear it can fix things.
Can't really offer any input about other H/S/E ROMs, but I can say that the mT-Slide is so Alpha that it's probably not recommended for any daily use unless you're a dev. (I'm keep a close eye on it tho for when it is)
Could you post the top information from your fastboot screen?

This gave me adb/fastboot access and allowed me to flash recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2G.img
With these settings I can only boot 2.1; have not been able to boot 1.6.
I then flashed :

HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP30000)
but still having the same problem....
A couple of things I have noticed:
- Flashing the radio must change the way the phone is identified on the network; on RADIO-3 the Model Number was HTC Magic and I was able to use the $10/month unlimited internet access from T-mobile for 4 days... after flashing RADIO-2 the Model Number changed to T-Mobile MyTocuh 3G and in less that 90 seconds I was being blocked because of invalid data plan.
- Flashing the small (~188K) SPL file only changes the SPL.
- There must be some other component that will change the SAPPHIRE PVT 32B information... So far I have not been able to locate just that file to switch back to SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-on G.
Have you considered flashing back to the latest T-Mo code and starting again?

HAve you wiped FULLY in Between flashing?
Do you have all 3 partitions on the SD card?
Im pretty sure one of those is your problem since you never mentioned wiping as something you did.
I rooted and rommed my own phone some time back without any problems, thanks to many excellent posts on this site. My boss kept moaning that his sensation kept crashing/hanging/behaving badly - so I told him that I would root and rom his phone, Which I have done. Problem is though there's no BT or WIFI. I have tried several variations on PG58IMG.ZIP but none even offer to carry out the upgrade. The phones CID is VODAP001 and the text from the HBOOT is as follows....

I cannot seem to change the CID (I tired to superCID it). I'm fairly sure that it's the radio.img that needs to be updated - can anyone help me as to why this isn't happening. What PG58IMG.ZIP should I be using are there any additional locks that Vodafone have put on that I need to remove. The OS seems to work fine except no wifi or bluetooth. The ROM I installed is the AKOP milestone 6. Please help, my boss might sack me! :crying:
You would probably be better getting the phone to have S-OFF first.
You've not stated if the phone has gone through the HTCdev unlock mechanism. Although, I don't know what that achieves in comparison to full S-OFF.

I've tried several PG%*IMG.zip files that appear to be the correct versions, but all they do is get as far as the Parsing... then returns me to the fastboot screen. Everything on the phone appears to work correctly except radio services (BT & Wifi) and the SD card won't mount on PC on USB mode, but I'm not bothered about that - if the Wifi works I can always network files onto the phone.

Hi,
According to your hboot,it says "S-ON" .
That is why no PG58IMG.zip will work
It seems that if you cannot see that,you should really not be playing with your boss's phone.
If you intend to carry on,look in my signature at the "Asskicker Thread "
