Strange Package Names - Captivate General

I rooted my Captivate, removed AT&T apps w/ Titanium Backup. I am seeing some strange package names under Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
com.matchboxmobile.wisp
com.mspot.androind.music.radio
com.pv.android.p11
com.samsung.mobilevideo
com.telenav.app.android.cingular
com.wavemarket.waplauncher
All of these show 0.00B used space. I assume that they have something to do with the AT&T applications that I removed, and I can remove them as they seem to be taking up no space (just entries in the list).
I googled some of the package names but didn't see anything concrete. Anyone know for sure if I can 'uninstall' them? And by sure I mean really sure.

As you suspected, they are remnants of the AT&T bloatware you removed. Just uninstall each like I did, and they will go away with no further issue.

Thanks, this really helped. I got rid of all the AT&T software except for Work Email which i'm figuring out how to un-install.

Built in application removal

Even though the phone cones standard with almost every Google application it you can uninstall most of these application. With no root needed to free up space on the internal memory. You can not delete the games that come preliaded though.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Can you clarify your what you're saying? It doesn't make much sense.
Are you claiming you can remove all apps that ship pre-installed except the games?
And please be specific to which applications you can permanently delete and what apps you cannot. It would be much appreciated.
I'm sure he's talking about gapps. Since google put there apps on the market for easy updating. no way tmo gone make it easy to remove there bloat ware
TitaniumBackup freeze

You need to have the root access to completely remove them else you will not be able to remove them completely.

Say that again?
The way I understand it is that with no real root access and therefore no real write access (and therefore delete access) to /system, you cannot delete apps off of the system partition, as they will reappear after reboot. Freezing apps by Titanium simply removes them from some sort of app database so they don't appear in the app drawer and cannot start at any time, although they do remain linked to the market and remain in the data partition so as to be unfrozen at any time.
Correct if wrong. I don't see a way to delete apps at this time, and I'm wondering how the freeze will work after a reboot.

You are correct till we don't have the root access all the methods will be temp and you will see the apps coming back after a reboot. i know it sucks but this is how it is with the phones these days.
the only good thing is that these apps don't bother me because they are not bogging the phone down

That's exactly what TB does when it freezes an app. So, I suppose it works and survives a reboot?

Yes, it does. I'm a bit old school so I like to do stuff manually (unless it's super complicated of course). The best thing about this method is that you can just disable/enable packages as you please.
One thing to consider is those that did completely remove Google Goggles from their G2 had problems with OTA. Disabling/freezing apps is a way to avoid that.

100% correct. Eventhough .apk file is stored in /system/app, all the settings and data for the said app are in /data/app and data/dalvik-cache which is in fact rw.

I can confirm that removing games or whatever is permanent. Removed demo version of asphalt and peep and some tmobile stuff, it is gone and hasn't come back even after factory reset. Hope this doesn't interfere with update.
Did you do this in Settings? If so, T-Mo decided that they would allow that, so I'm sure that it wouldn't prevent from an OTA upgrade.
The free version of Titanium Back now has the option to delete apps permanently.

Is there a way to reinstall the full versions without it asking to replace a system app?
If I deleted amazon, and the demos that came with the phone with a temp root using titanium backup will I be able to receive OTA's on the future? Or on order to receive OTA's u need to be completely stock?

How to delete "My Apps" from Android Market?

Ok, so since I change roms occasionally it is a pain to have my apps try and restore themselves everytime I start a new ROM. I'd be ok if it were just 50 or so apps, but it tries to install every app I have ever downloaded and that is a TON!
I know I can skip the sign in process and turn off "automatic restore" but is there a way to just delete the cache of apps that the Market thinks I want? That way I can allow the auto restore without having it force close my phone because its overloaded.
+1
anyone??????????
there are no body for this...
The only way i can think of is uninstalled each app via the market once it's installed. That will remove it from your account
Has anyone ever figured this out? I have tried uninstalling from "Manage applications" in settings. I have tried uninstalling from the marketplace app. I have went onto the website but there is NOTHING that you can do with the apps in your "My Apps" list.
I flash my phone a few times a month and I think it is nice that it will reinstall all your market apps but there are a LOT that I just install to try and then want them GONE forever. Has anyone ever figured this out?
Thanks,
supersobbie
There is no way to do it from what I can tell. It drives me nuts. I wish Google would fix this.
There is a toggle for it in privacy settings and if using a new gb release you get that option in the setup wizard too
Thanks, but I do not think that is exactly what I am looking for.
I use CM7 nightlies but a few times a month I like to clean house and reinstall. Yes I do get the option to either sync or not sync.... but both ways suck right now. If I sync then I have to go back and remove all the CRAP that is sitting out there... If I dont sync I have to go back and install all the Apps that I actually want from there....
Both way suck. What I want is to be able to remove the items in the list for restore. That is the part that Google needs to fix. It is just annoying as heck.
Thanks,
supersobbie
Edit the "market_assets.db" file perhaps?

I believe that Google has said that if you uninstall an app that you did NOT purchase then it will be removed from your "My Apps" section within a week or so? Has anyone seen this?
As far as removing individual apps, perhaps the /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/market_assets.db file can be edited? I have found that deletion of this file, a reboot, then opening the android market; solves the "Missing My Apps" section on the market. I JUST did this solution, so I am not sure if this is a long term fix or not.
This issue in particular may be related to Titanium Backup Pro? Unsure, but I am a user if Titanium Backup
My point is, this database file has our market link data. Claerly when the data is broke the "My Apps" section is missing, yet perhaps there is a way to edit this file to hide a few apps from the "My Apps" section?
I can't post up links yet as I am still a new member, but if someone wants to view the .db files there is an application called "SQLite Database Browser" available on PortableApps dot com. This browser does not appear to show the actual data, only the tables and extents, yet this is at least a start... I believe there are linux database viewers that will actually show the data if desired
--Edit--
I found the Google link about removing downloaded apps. They simply say you can uninstall, and that there is no way to remove the apps from "My Apps" section on com.android.com

I am not sure if it is relevant but there is an option in Titanium Backup relating application's market link or something. May it be useful?

Glad if it helps. I wasn't sure because i never used that.
I know its a somewhat old thread but I myself would like to delete the "my apps" from play store... does anyone know if its possible?
Didn't find it in TB... but the way, doesn't it unlink only apps that you have installed?
Im looking for this feature also...Remove link from market...i don't have these apps installed anymore...
remove apps from my apps
Go to Google Play
Press the downloaded symbol (line with arrow above it) in the top left corner.
Slide over to "All"
To select, hold finger on an app.
Now you can just tap an app to add it to the list.
Repeat for all apps you want to remove.
Press remove in top left.
Done.
This is the fastest wayI have found but really it needs a webpage or something to quickly select from the THOUSANDS of apps cluttering the place.

That is not the true ....
( sorry for bad english, i am french and very angry )
I discovered today that Google lied a lot about removing unused app from his list ...
The app are just hidden for us, Google keep all in his database
i am so angry
i searched a way for blocking market to update itself automaticely, and i found here on this forum the way ( with chattr +i )
And go back to market 3.1.3
And i had big surprise when i saw all the app i had "removed" from list are still here ....

Recommended bloatware to freeze?

Now that I have bloat freezer instead of App Quarantine I have a lot more options here. I got just about everything AT&T except for Address Book. Any other suggestions?
Any way I could freeze the webdock features since I'm not using one at the moment?
you do know that a lot of the att apps could easily be uninstalled with settings > applications > app manager?
they were installed to /data, so you have permissions to uninstall those as well as some of the motorola apps
as far as what to remove/freeze
i have only froze device health, toggle widgets, homescreen tips and att address book. i had a lot more, but, when you freeze a lot of the social networking stuff, you lose functions such as syncing online photos and i even had the contacts app force closing with something that i froze as well. a lot of services are tied into core apps, so it's hard to tell what safe and what isn't and i gave up on trying.
I don't want to uninstall them, at least not while I'm on a stock ROM. Might mess up update compatibility. If I freeze them then it's no issue and they're only taking up internal memory.
Doesn't seem like there's really a whole lot to take off the top here, and it looks like the webtop takes up a good chunk of RAM just running the in the background. Argh...
Here ya go

all the att bloatware that u can uninstall comes back when you do a factory reset. my guess is there's an update.zip it uses to put back on the rom somewhere. go ahead an uninstall it. i had to uninstall it all twice BC i did factory reset

[Q] If I root the device can I remove the bloatware?

just curious as I hear you cant move apps to the SD card. which wont be such a big deal if I can remove some of the existing junk put on there by samsung and increase the space available.
or have I missed something obvious.
If rooted, you should be able to use Titanium Pro to remove anything you don't want.
Place all questions in the Q&A section, thanks

ok cool, thats what i was hoping, thanks
I would freeze the app instead of uninstalling unless you are 100% sure what the app is

Titanium Backup question

Does anyone know what happens when you uninstall titanium backup and you have apps frozen?
They should remain frozen. Frozen is really just a name given to what TB and other similar apps do, in order to remove their visibility. Otherwise, you'd have to have a TB service continually running in the background to keep them hidden which is obviously terrible.
You'll obviously have no way to "unfreeze" them as well. Additionally then, there is no guarantee that you can unfreeze them if you re install. Depends on how TB stores the references and if you don't clear data when you uninstall.
I definitely wouldn't suggest uninstalling TB if you used it to freeze apps.
