Frequent updating time and date messages? - Captivate General

Anyone else getting these little popups saying that the time and date is being updated or synchronized? Just happened twice within a few minutes after the phone was on for quite a while. I've seen it a few other times as well.
Anyone else notice this?
I don't really mind if it updates the time and date frequently. I'd just rather not see it.

Happens all the time, unfortunately for the foreseeable future you won't disabling it..its part of the main notifications script and its not its own entity its just "display notidfication=1" (something to that effect, don't have the script or db here)
so unless you want no notifications, you're gonna have to deal with it. I've noticed it but I can't say that it has bothered me...

I've never seen this.

That happens when you kill phonecalls settings ect. Make sure your taskkiller avoid killing system and essential services

Really? Wouldn't that mean everything you launch is sitting in memory and wouldn't that make it run more poorly?

No, a big feature of Android is that it automatically kills apps when new apps and processes need memory. App 'killers' were only semi useful on older phones like the G1 which had very little memory.

yeah, like the guy above said, the default android os will start killing processes once it goes down to like 60 megs or something. When I had the task killer running, it did more harm than good for me on my Vibrant. It was okay for my G1 I guess but this isn't a G1!

I switched to this phone from a G1 and the difference is incredible. I see all of these posts complaining about a little lag here and there and think, 'go use a first gen phone for a while, then you'll see' lol.

AutoKiller 2.5.2 - battery problems reported in market

There are reports one the market of AutoKiller 2.5.2 (the newest update) draining the battery. Plus now it is a Ad supported app.
Anyone update and are they having a battery drain issue or any other problems due to the update with their CDMA Hero?

I don't know I did a thorough search for the AutoKiller2.5.apk but came up with nothing. Maybe someone in the forums has a copy saved.
Can you pull it out of fresh 2.0d?

better yet, someone yank them dang ads out and keep 2.5 for the rest of what it's updated for!2
You could. I think the version in Fresh 2.0d did not have the new extreme preset... still better than a copy with ads though.

It is a great program and they deserve the small amount of revenue they receive from ads which you only see for the 5 seconds that you are switching your settings.
If you are adamant against supporting them run adfree or edit your hosts file manually to block ads.
Auto Memory Manager works pretty good
2.5.2 is the result of hours of work in which the dev was able to stop the stack overflow in 2.5.1 on the cdma hero. It was developed on a gsm hero and blew up on the cdma. I can personally testify that the program sets the values then more often than not disappears from the memory loaded tasks list in taskiller. That would tell me that it would be difficult for it to be consuming battery. Send a donation and get an ad free version.
Oh yeah tested on my hero.

Thanks. I really was not worried about the ads. Glad to hear it is not killing the battery. I am updating now.
your reports might be correct...
I've noticed after installing the latest 2 updates my battery life has gone ****ty ..
I couldn't pint point what it was at 1st until i uninstalled and re-installed AutoKiller to see if this was the culprit and indeed it is..

I agree that developers should get revenue from their ads, but you MUST realize that they don't get any money unless you actually CLICK the ad.
Case in point - although I'm sure they have more users than my app does, I've got almost 2000 installs and do you know how much I've made in the several months my app has been up? Hint...it's less than five bucks.
You're not taking much out of their pockets IMO.
I happened to notice that Flipz reported that this app was getting stuck in an error, and also that it is sending user location: http://flipzmode.pastebin.com/HYpvetXc (he tweeted about it and linked to the log here: http://twitter.com/flipzmod3/status/12425179607).
Wonder if the battery life issue is related?
Could be... maybe I shouldn't have updated. The report of battery drain on the market did worry me. I don't like some random company knowing my location... for what? Target location Ads? The government keeping tabs on me? What other information are they collecting. Just joking about the government, but really this is frustrating none-the-less.
so is this fixed or still draining battery to rapidly
newest update is fine no battery drain and the adds are minimal
was there a new update in the last day or so that fixed this issue. cause i uninstalled it about 5 days ago and my battery life has almost doubled since. and its not that im doubting u or anything but how do u know that the issue has been fixed just want to know if there was some kind of documentaion about this...... thanks
For those interested, the newest Advanced Task Killer now includes an auto killer function. I downloaded it yesterday and my hero is zooming. No battery drain. I have it set to kill apps when the phone sleeps. Just an fyi, take care.

Not sure what happened to the Beejive thread, but you can exit now!

As per their latest email:
Build 0.9.8.99
More enhancements and bug fixes notably
Picture thumb nails and view file for file transfers
Enhancements to Voice Notes
Enhancements to Group Chats

is there anywhere to get the app for android since the beta stopped working for everyone today
I have the newest version which is build #0.9.9.1 and it's got the shut down button to truly close the app finally lol but they took out the ability to use voice notes which was cool... kinda like what Palringo has!! hope they put it back! it's still in beta so im sure before it becomes final they'll polish it up good!!

Reading ABD logcat at first, then I noticed it actually shows it when you're installing the app and it asks for permissions. "Allow app to use Cloud to Device Messaging" under Network use.
Also notice that when you open it, it takes a split second to "update" your buddy list(Unlike eBuddy,Trillian and all others), proving it wasn't doing anything in the background.
I wouldn't let the 100% uptime keep you from installing this app. I am literally online the whole day and have noticed no major impact on battery life.

I dont see how the 100% wake time wouldn't have a negative effect on the battery. Its not letting the phone sleep. Isn't the purpose of push technology to let the app sleep in the background and only wake the app when there is data to be sent?

First of all, my phone does not keep a 100% wake time when using Beejive. Even if it did, you need to understand what your phone is actually doing and what Android reports as "Wake time". Android can report your phone as "awake" while using 0% cpu and 0% network--Draining the same exact amount or even LESS as if the phone was being reported as "asleep".
My point is: People take the awake time too seriously. It's there to help you understand what app might be draining your battery but absolutely does not mean your battery is being raped. The system is really complex so it can and it WILL sometimes report your phone as awake, even though it's not draining any battery at all.
MSmith1 said:

Yes. But like I said, Android sometimes reports the phone as Awake just because the App is sitting there-While using 0% CPU and 0% Network -- The phone is effectively asleep. It's using a push connection, and when a message comes in it will use some cpu and some network--effectively waking up the phone, using some battery.

Disabling AT&T setup app

Does anyone know of a way to disable the AT&T setup app that is always running in the background (something like "AT&T on the go")? No matter how many times I kill it, it returns and the "disable" button is grayed out, as it is for a few apps that came preloaded.
Thanks!

I don't think it's actually "running" per se, but rather it just caches itself. I noticed it couldn't be disabled as well so I kept an eye on it the past couple days and it doesn't use up any resources so I'm not worried about it.

You could always root your device and just uninstall it either using TiBu or a file explorer.
There should be a few posts on how to do this if you don't know how.
Check out the dev section.
Thanks, Craig. I am holding off on rooting for now but I guess that would be the only way to get rid of the app. Appreciate it.

I decided to see if I can kill the app so first I opened the app and then just hit "Cancel" at the bottom. I then went to the Task Manager app and pressed the "X" next to it and then pressed "Force Close" without clearing any data/cache. So far it hasn't started back up but I'll update if it does.
That sounds promising! I had tried force closing but not using that exact method and it kept reappearing. I will definitely try this. Thank you!

I just checked again and it still hasn't started up. I think the trick is to open the app and press "Cancel" instead of backing out of the app and making sure to not clear the data when you "Force close" it.

I concur. I think you've found the solution as I had canceled out of the app before but had cleared the cache, which I guess tells the app that it has never been used and therefore should be relaunched. So, the combination makes sense... and it appears to work for me as well. Good find!
EDIT: Well, it reappeared but only after quite a while and repeating the process is keeping it away again for now. This certainly is better than when it popped-up immediately each time. Maybe the second try will have a permanent effect.

Agreed. Thanks for your efforts!
Lol.... Guys force closing does NOT prevent apps from coming back if they are bloatware or similar. Plenty of threads on task killers and thats what that is; just a native task killer.
You can force close all day long it'll usually come back. Hence the many threads on why task killers are bad for battery or if nothing more an unnecessary drain on your battery.
TB and freeze or remove.

Yeah, I think we are aware of that. However, this method made sense because it is some sort of setup program and making the app think the setup is complete would mean it didn't need to run anymore. Ever since starting the app before killing it, it no longer restarts immediately and constantly. It now takes a few hours to reappear and is not as persistent.
The issue here is that the app cannot be disabled, unlike most other bloatware but, luckily, it consumes next to no resources. As stated, we will just ignore it.

Yes, I know , I usually link these two articles regarding using task killers:
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them

But NOT all apps will restart themselves and it really makes no sense why this one would unless the phone was rebooted or factory reset.
I usually freeze apps by adding ".bak" in root explorer but I haven't rooted/modded the phone yet until a little more development has been done, that's why I still have my Atrix to fiddle around with.

After adding the ".bak" to the end of the apk make sure to do a reboot too. Although, your suggestion for using TiBu to freeze apps is essentially the same thing, I just use my method because I don't have paid version of any app that freezes them.
What do you mean by "disappeared" with your contacts? I have heard about crashing issues because HTC needs to tweak the memory management a little more but I haven't seen entire lists of information disappearing.

Huawei's decision to use its own memory manager....

Ok, so this was a huge problem on the Mediapad X1. Where huawei's memory manager kills apps in the background. Why do we need task killers today Huawei? Please stop
On the Mediapad X1 there were a bunch of apps like Google Hangouts that would get killed even though you tell it not to get killed via "Protected Apps", having your texting app not run in the background is bad as you can imagine. So now I have an X2 and it seems like this Protected App thing actually works better, however I noticed today that the bluetooth services were getting killed in the background as it would not pair with my car until I turned on the screen. Because these are built in services you can't "Protect" them.
Just posting this here so hopefully Huawei can see it and fix it
But seriously, they should just use the memory manager built into android and not try to monkey around with, we don't need task killers any more.

I have had Textra recommended to me as a work-around for MMS texting glitches. I am used to that now and will try it but if I have problems I will try your app. By tweaks I just meant that so much of what most of you do is not what a "regular" cell phone user would know. I had no idea there were memory manager things I might need to address. (I haven't done that before). That is why I am here. To learn about new things and to be prepared as much as possible for when (at this point it is "if") my 702L gets here!

You have to go into startup manager and check each app, protected apps and trust each application, add it to startup, and in permission manager you have to trust each application. I agree though, I wish this didn't exist as there's no need for it. If you're rooted you can take it out but you'll lose the Do Not Disturb mode as it is baked into it.

I was rooted on the X1 and getting rid of the Power Manager still made stuff die in the background, it was pretty irritating. So far with the X2 it mostly works. As far as I can tell only bluetooth dies (Which I can't add to any of those apps as its a system app)
The X2 is such a better phone than the X1. I hope Huawei keeps on top of bug fixes. With a generic android memory manager this phone would be truly awesome.

I got my X2 today from fashioncoconuts on eBay and everything is good. It even came unlocked. I'm liking these eBay sellers.
Edit: after I did a factory reset it said the bootloader was locked. Now when I use Google Maps it tells me I must update my Google Play Services. When I do my Google Account Disappears and my Play Store doesn't open. I'm beginning to dislike Huawei's implementation of their apps. Blocking certain apps from being installed is totally lame on Huawei's part. Now the waiting game begins for my unlock code. I'm giving them three days. If not both phones are going on eBay and I'm done with Huawei. Rant over.

Yeah. They told me they shipped it out on the 5th and didn't until the 15th. Now I know why. They raised the price too right after I bought it. A lot of these eBay sellers jack the price up way too high. No one should pay more than $399 for it. I'm just glad it came already unlocked. It seems Huawei is no longer sending emails to people with the unlock codes anymore.

Ok, this morning bluetooth connect up fine (I'm on B108)
But I noticed the Lux (screen brightness app) had stopped in the background.
Services shutting down in the background was a huge issue on the X1 and for the most part seems to work on the X2 but it seems some things still get killed in the background once in a while even though they are "Protected Apps"
I'll keep monitoring and see if I notice anything else...

Dual Window

I don't want to get into a whole debate about root but I am coming from the G3 and previously had the G2. I had both of these rooted with excellent Cloudy stock Roms.
It is my goal to live without root on this phone. It seems to run great, has enough ram and battery to handle lost background apps with little to almost zero lag. I am just kinda tired of the TWRP, ROOT, TB, Flashing lifestyle... Lol. Been doin it since the HD2.
However I did not discover until yesterday while using the phone unrooted that Dual Window is only limited to a handful of apps. I guess with the rooted Roms the mod for other apps was already in place so I never noticed. I honestly gotta say that's pretty terrible. I don't understand the thought process behind why LG would limit such a strong multitasking feature. I personally used it to balance my checkbook beside my bank app. SUPER EASY! Now this kind of sucks. It might be enough to make me root it. I am trying the ad block thing I found in another post but this dual window thing is a FAIL without root IMHO.
Otherwise this is a bad ass phone. I am loving it.

Yep
Yep... And this is the first phone I tried to go without Titanium Backup... How do people live like this?!?! Lol... I guess we'll see.... What I'd like to see is the manufacturers just do stuff like that on their own.....
Samsung, the creators of multi-window, have a restrictive list too. I never bypassed it though. Kind of annoying. They've had it for years too.
But...umm..you can add any app you want to dual window without root

Hooooly crap that's alot of work to have something as simple as dual window support. What happens when the app updates? Does that change anything?
Again this just goes back to manufacturers just taking care of their customer base. This should be a non-issue.... Maybe I'll fool around with this at some point but honestly just rooting will probably be easier and provide more overall benefits once it is accomplished (which I would imagine would be sooner rather than later.) I'm always willing to donate for developers hard work. Definitely worth it.
Thanks for sharing this friend!
It's not as bad as it looks tbh. Once you become familiar it's a fairly quick process.

I've used this on a few apps and it works great. Took a little bit of time to figure it out the first app (I have zero experience with this type of thing), but after that it went pretty quick.
I just verified it with some apps I edited for my G3 that it works fine on the fancy new V10.

Maybe I will give it a try. It seems intimidating but perhaps it's not. What happens if an app updates via the Play store? Does it overwrite your changes?

Hah, I've got no idea honestly. That reddit thread that was posted isn't too old; I haven't had any of the apps I messed with updated yet.

Can anybody help me with that ? And also I did a Google Map but can not install on my phone because the original one is a system app.
