Hi there,
here's my patched media_profiles.xml which improves your LG 3D video&audio recording quality.
The sound is significant improvement, i was sick of that "crispy" noise. After trying this patch you'd hear the sound is more natural.
You only need to apply these settings (replace the file in your system).
No need for additional patches or extra camera apps!
For recording on SD I recomend to use Class 6 or better, but i've made some tests on Class 4 with pretty good results as well.
That this improves:
2D and 3D video bitrate to 15Mbps
Video sound to 48kHz at 256kbps
What do I need
Your rooted LG Optimus 3D
Any file manager (eg. Root Explorer)
Download my file mediaprofiles.zip (see link below)
How do I install it
Root your phone (if not already done)
Download the file mediaprofiles.zip
Extract the media_profiles.xml from the Zip to the SD card of your phone
In your phone file manager:
go to system/etc and make a backup of your media_profiles.xml (eg rename it)
copy or move the new media_profiles.xml (the downloaded) to system/etc
Reboot your phone
Enjoy improved video & sound quality
Note that some players may still report the sound is only LQ at 24KHz 64kbps but just try it, you'll hear the difference very well
BUGS
Front camera is not recording
Camera app may crash when saving video - however video should be saved correctly.
... will try to get this fixed asap ...

Thank you so much,great job
15mb are for 720p or 1080p in 2d?
thanks so much
great mod =))
Seems to be working fine. Video is crisper in high detail areas and the bitrate in my sample video increased from 8 Mbit/s to about 12 or 13 Mbit/s.
Some weird behavior though: After I've shot a video (when I tap the Stop button) I get booted to the home screen instead of remaining in the Camera application. The video itself is fine though, no corruption or anything, but it's a bit of an annoyance to get booted.
Hi,
the bug with front camera seems to be fixed,
also the crashing camera app when saving the video seems to be fixed.
I'll make some tests and if this will work fine I will post the updated MOD asap....
I m using root explorer and i can't replace the mod file, i have read only message

Had the same Problem. Had to deinstall Root explorer and update to the latest Version it worked then.
Ok it works, i had to set r/w
P. S. But 3D recording dont work for me
P.p. S after recorded 2 1080p video, the camera stop working
New MOD attached.
This is 2D/3D video still at 13-15Mbps
Bugs fixed:
Front camera working (with its default LQ settings)
Original Camera app is no longer crashing after saving the video
New bug:
Sound quality is normal - default, no improvement.
Will try to fix this asap.....
3d recording is working now?
its working on the two phones i got. feel free to test on yours. thanx.
it works now
waiting for audio improved, and higher bitrate for 1080p,like 20Mb/s
how can i/we support your work?have u got any paypal account?
everything stable ?
Yep Thanks to the dev
nice il try it
wont install
Great work, actually the audio quality was the most thing annnoying me with this phone.
Waiting for it ti install.

EDIT: ( dont be kid, you just downloaded my mod and edited media profiles.... i checked it right now... and is my custom media profiles... )
Check the original media profiles, then check my media profiles and you see the diference, and then check my media profiles with the media profiles of this mod.. the same, just edited the bitrate...
And 1 more thing about the "audio" tweak... Be carefull with that, because some phones cant handle it for any reason, and the recording will crash soon as the phone "exceed" the limit.
may sound strange, but can we have a "compromise" version?
I would love this as the macroblocking on 3D is obvious on my big TV, but my SD card isn't that fast, any chance of an 8mbps version? (for 3D, double the bitrate of stock but not so high it needs an expensive SD card)

I think you should buy a class 6 sd card, or save the camera files into internal memory.. These mods are made for the best results as we can
I'm now uploading them to facebook but noticed vid quality got reduced on that platform.
I will probably go dropbox in the meantime.
Why is youtube direct upload still missing?

Your "trick" doesn't work at least on Samsung Focus.
P.S. Budniu, are you able to upload 720p video longer than 25-30 seconds? I just tested on Samsung Focus/HTC Surround, I can only upload max 20 seconds of 720p video. So as I said it's useless (at least for me). However probably we can do some registry tweaks to extend current attachment limit...

I cannot seem to make this work. I choose HD 60fps in the video camera options and yet when I play the video back it is not slow motion. Is anyone else having this issue?

Is it playing back at 60fps?
Thread moved. Please post in the correct sections of the forum in future. Questions go in Q&A.

I wondered that too. But. When you go to the camera application, the one it shipped with, then press the video camera icon to switch it to video mode, on the bottom left a slide out toolbar is revealed. if the icon that looks like film negative is pressed, I get four options: normal video, video mms, slow motion, and time lapse. On pressing the slow motion button, "HD 60fps" is shown at the top left of the screen. When I press the record button, and play the resultant video back on the phone, It plays in real time. I copied the file to my computer and it played back on my computer; it plays in real time. Right clicking the file and then >properties>details showed 60fps. When I record in the "time lapse" mode, the resulting video plays as it should, fast, the clouds or what-have-you roll by. I called Motorola today, spent half an hour, talked to two customer service reps. Nothing. The second one went and got their "hands on Photon Q" He didn't even have a "slow motion" icon in the place I described. I then asked him if the firmware was updated on the phone. It was not. I have "77.8.10.XT897.Sprint.en.US" which is the recent update I believe. Would someone mind just trying this slow motion feature out and telling me whether is works for my piece of mind? Thanks!
Just checked this, an apparently when you record a video with 60fps mode, you then have the option to adjust the playback speed in the lower left corner (landscape orientation) from 1x to 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8. This option is missing on normal videos. Haven't tested yet how it translates off the phone on youtube or such. Maybe setting the playback speed sticks in the file?

Well done man Thank you
Wow! you are observant!
I did not notice the x factor in bottom left! I tapped it, changed the speed, exported the file to dropbox, played it back on my computer and it was in slow motion. Is this documented and i totally missed it? Even the Motorola folk were confounded...

That made me lol
Umm, I was mistaken
The video is apparently taken in 60p. It plays back in 60p which makes it real-time. The Photon can play it back at 30 which makes it 1/2 speed, and smooth. Exported, a player (VLC etc) wants to play it back at 60fps = realtime. As far as i can tell, you need to change the playback speed with an editing program to have it play back at another speed (say 30p) in a normal player. Hope this helps ...
Hey I just got my h5 and so far loving it. Has anyone gotten the 360 cam? I'm excited to get it but have a question on it. How does the process for sharing the photos work? If I were to share it with an iOS device, do I share it like any other photo and they can see the 360 effect ?

No - sharing has been the biggest challenge with the camera. But I absolutely love the camera.
If you text it to them, or even email it, it almost always comes as a flat jpeg when opened on a mobile device or even desktop/laptop.
What I have taken to doing is to upload it to either Google Photos or Flickr, and then sharing direct links to the photos via text or email, but even then on iOS they have to tap the photo (or the 360 icon) to see it in it's full mode. It's a bit of a challenge and Android has an advantage on viewing these on mobile devices at the moment (especially if you share the link via Google Photos).
On a desktop/laptop, Google Photos or Flickr both look really nice and there is not much more work to be done by the end user. It's much more intuitive on a bigger screen.
Videos are also a challenge - you can upload them to Facebook without much issue. Youtube requires you to package them first before they can be viewed as 360.
It's definitely an early adopter problem and will probably get easier in time.
I'm still debating on getting it. I love the idea

Question about video length: I read in the manual that at highest video quality, time is limited to 20 minutes. However it also says that if it hits the maximum file size of 4 GB that it will continue recording in a new file. So is it possible to record longer than 20 minutes, and does it just break it into extra files?

That was not true of the original software, but I haven't tried if since the two updates. It was originally limited to just 20 minutes at a time, and then you had to hit record again.
But if it's in the manual that way now, I will try it again right now with the May 24th update and see what happens!
EDIT: Just to update, it did not roll into another file and continue recording. At 20 minutes (2.44 gb) it stopped recording and that was it (Software version R10510e).
OK, thanks for testing it out. Too bad, that is the one thing holding me up from buying one.
As long as there won't be a way to see pictures and videos without an online service, I won't buy it.
I haven't tried to share videos yet, but for the photos sphereshare.net is pretty cool. They have an Android app as well. I used my cam pretty heavily the first few days after I got it...Now it just sits. :-/
Video sharing remains an issue.
So far, the only way to get decent stitching is to download it from the 360cam wirelessly to the G5, then share that file.
Pulling the video off the microSD card from the 360cam, injecting the spatial metadata as instructed on this page:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6316263
and uploading those results to youtube gives really sh*tty stitching.
Has any tried taking a photo/video from two of these next to each other and putting it into a 3D 360 file for use in VR headsets? I really don't understand the point of using a VR headset with a 2D image, even if it is 360 degrees.

You don't need to bother with any of that. Just upload the video to YouTube and wait for a few minutes after the processing has finished. the 360 video works very well with YouTube with no stitching.
EDIT: I checked for another firmware update today and there was one waiting.

Hmm, the ones I uploaded without the 360 mod never got converted. And the ones that had the mod had crappy stitching.
Maybe I need to wait longer for the non-modded version to get processed?

Only if you don't edit the video in youtube editor. If you want to upload the original video, it does just fine, but cutting the time of the video down or fixing potential shaking and it won't be recognized as 360. At least in my experience.
I just started using it as a dashcam, it's pretty neat the only issue i have right now is the 20 minute limit, gotta figure out a way to have it start a new recording after the 20 minutes.

Here's an attachment picture of the auto 'stitching' boundary done by Youtube. Not good at all, compared to what you view on the phone after downloading:
Now, this was recorded without the more recent firmwares, just the one it came with.
I just upgraded the more recent 10G version, so maybe that makes a difference to youtube.

That's what I mean. The YouTube stitching is awful (using their tool).
Yes, you have to wait for quite a long time for the YouTube conversion to happen automatically after you upload the file. The longer the video, the longer the wait.
EDIT: I have noticed that the stitching is much worse in poor light conditions. Bright light, no problems.
So, still no way to selh host his videos/photos in 360. No self hostable player ?
I mean, I host all my services on personal servers at home, and don't want to be dependant of youtube/wathever to host my videos.
Questions about video :
The video resolution, is it only 2k?
Can we record 1080p? If yes, is it also limited to 20 minutes?
Thanks

Directly to what? I've been Hawaii this weekend and am giving my 360 cam a good break in... take pictures, transfer to phone, upload to Facebook flawlessly so far.
Is there a camera mod allowing an instant switch, while recording video, between 30fps normal speed, then temporarily 240fps slow mo and back to normal, 30/60fps? I was watching water fowl by the river today and having that possibility would make some great videos. Those cormorants and ducks flying low over the water surface are funny birds to watch and I was thinking that a video would make it even more funny: to let the bird approach at normal speed, switch to 240fps for a few seconds to make them appear in the video like suspended in the air and then quickly 'send them away' at the normal speed again.
First of all, you asking this in the wrong place because things like this need to be in the Questions section. 2nd, have you even tried the slo-motion setting in the camera app? Because you can record up to 1 minute and then you can pick the part which you want to use the slo motion effect on and the rest will play on normal speed.

I wasn't asking about video editing, I was thinking about some sort of a button on the screen to make an instant speed change, seamless, you know I can't make the duck to stop or slow down when it's flying in real life or have another 'take' like in staged scenes with hired actors.

Do you even understand how fps works? Of course there isn't just a button to switch on the fly because that would bug out the video when playing it back. I also dont get why you just dont use the slo-motion function where you can have full control on the speed and after the convert it will playback just fine

I Highly doubt it that it will ever happen but who know and maybe you will get lucky but its more complicated then you think and real life use is minimal

The original slow-mo recording sorta does this automatically, but well... it records more FPS at all times. Besides, I don't think it's possible to do what you're asking simply because recording in slow mo requires a lot more light.

So, it would need better hardware(some sort of variable aperture) plus, even more processing power and Android could do it. One of the original concepts for a practical Android applications, before telephony, was a photo camera, then they figured: hey, we can put some radios in it, set up relay towers around and call it cellular.

Again, what you want wont happen and like i said a the other person who replied in this topic.... its already kinda there with the slo-motion function! It records everything on 240/480 and then after you done recording you can pick your part to slow down and then it converts the rest to 30fps.
The feature you want is dynamic fps switching but this wont happen in a long time if ever.
