So i posted in the marketplace for a feeler on seling my htc pure. found out no can do not on the board long enough. Well was looking for some help with Rom's for it, glad i did not, the dam thing. less than 3 days old froze up twice. so Guess what its going back to at&t, got them to up grade me to a tilt 2 thats what i wanted in the first place. YEA.....
I started with a fuse in march, week 2 bluetooth failed , warr exchange, lasted till oct, unit freezing causing soft reset, did hard reset, still freezing, none have been modded. refurb phone after 2 weeks freezing, by now i am thinking wow i must have the worst luck. so they upgrade me to a pure, that is not really what i wanted but it was an upgrade. figure new phone lets fix it before it breaks. Could not even put it up for sale before that thing start freezing after sending text message's. so back to at&t, spent a total of 8 plus hours over the last week on the phone and driving to the store 3 times. I must say they have been really good and fair. I will say that htc might have problems but at&t have kept me happy. just thought to vent alittle. Wouldlike a little incite. should i do any mods or just leave it alone. I have seen that new rom and updates make the phone much better? using the search function.
I keep hearing about this unfixed Nexus S reboot bug. I'm curious... is it really so widespread? Or is it only something a few people experience, like the luck of the draw?
I apologize if this question has been asked before. I'm considering buying the phone but can't decide if I should wait.
It always seems to pop up in the forums but it has never happened to me. I've had mine for almost a month now and it all seems to be perfect. No defects with screens or buttons or reboots. Maybe im just lucky...or people with complaints are just louder than ones who are satisfied.
The issue is real and Google have confirmed it. They've been working on a fix and the official word was an OTA update was going to be released this week:
Just a heads up that our initial tests look good and that we are expecting to send out an OTA within one to two weeks that will resolve the issue. Thanks for your continued patience!

Argh. I did not have this problem until yesterday (had the phone since January). Now my phone will reboot right after a call.

I've had three Nexus S so far. The first one I picked up on dec 16th and didn't get a single reboot on - but the oleophobic coating on the screen was coming off in spots so I swapped it for another unit.
The second unit had issues rebooting. I saw it immediately - it rebooted while sitting on my desk. I could constantly recreate this by streaming audio over BT in my car - every 10-15 minutes it would reboot.
I picked up a mt4g for a few weeks to see if they could sort whether this was a hardware of sw issue (that thing is a brick to hold) and eventually picked up a third Nexus S once they identified it as a SW issue. This device has not rebooted a single time in the 27 days I've had it. I can stream audio and make long calls without an issue.
All three devices have operated with identical configurations. Based on this I'd say that some units are worse than others.
Maybe it's issue with the hardware tolerances and some hardware that falls within the accepted tolerance is not operating as expected and causing kernel panics as a result. This would explain why some have this issue constantly and others rarely or never see it. Perhaps it's something seemingly unrelated that everyone experiencing the reboots has in common. It would be nice if Google weren't so tight lipped about this. Supposedly the OTA will address these issues and moving forward it should be irrelevant.
I get this issue at least 60% of my calls (not that i call much). i have made 4 calls today, and 3 of them my phone rebooted during the proccess.
I am returning this to CW tommorrow for a replacment unit, i love the phone dearly but do not want to be robbed for £429 but not being able to take it back if they do not resolve.
It could be a batch issue, or something i guess, but that's not my job to find that out, that's for the people i paid for the hardware/software
I hope i get another unit, and if not problem free at least i can rely on a warranty, hopefully making sure if google slack on fixing this i can get my money back.
If it fixes soon or the new handsets ok, i can keep this lil beauty of a phone
I've had my SNS since launch. My phones has rebooted on me twice. It was right after playing a 3D game. Right after i exited the game the phone rebooted. Funny though, it hasn't happened again.
I've gone back to using my Desire until Google sort this out. For me, any call above 5 minutes has a 50% chance of rebooting the handset.
The handset (running stock 2.3.2 and un-rooted) will on occasion spontaneously reboot as well. Not good.
It is a bug that seems to be very limited in scope but is very serious for those affected. Personally, I've never had it happen to me or my wife.
Thank you for your replies, they were very helpful. I was keeping up with the OTA Bugfix promised by Google for the Nexus S. Although, that was promised almost 3 weeks ago and still no word from Google since. That's one of the reasons why I came here to ask for advice before I bought the phone. Although I'm curious to see if 2.3.3 resolved the issue. I know the 2.3.3 just lists API changed, but I wouldn't expect them to list bugfixes on a list of API changes.
I think I'm ready to buy the phone and hope for the best. I'll probably just get Best Buy insurance just to be safe.

Getting the insurance is definitely the right choice. I hope you enjoy your phone and your stay here!
I get periodic reboots on both my phones.
It is not that noticeable, since it often happens when I am not using the phone and unless I glance at it and see the start animation, I may be unaware of it.
But it has happened during a call as well (couple of times on each phone) and then it is definitely noticeable.
I have this bug... not during phone calls but random reboots. 2-3 a day. I hate it but its tolerable.
Weird, I don't have this bug
If flashing a custom rom, the problem will be solved? Since i am considering if i should get Nexus s later on.
Thanks
Had the phone on day 1, hour 1 the 20th and have had not 1 odd issue. Everyone here seems to hate their device, I'm coming from a vibrant which was cool too but this is way better....
How come y'all having so many issues and I haven't had 1... Anyone else have no issues like me?
I love this phone and its perfect for me.....

I got the phone yesterday too and so far I don't have an issue. Came from Vibrant as well. I do see a little bleeding on top of the screen, but this is not an issue for me.

My first phone had a lot of bleeding, switched it out for another and it barely has any. That's the only problem I've really run into.
My first unit had the restart problem but I replaced it at the tmo store and this new one is working fine and is almost up to the two day uptime since its initial boot.

I got my phone last night and only issue I have is the screen bleed but it don't bug me either. So far really nice phone.

I also got my phone on the 20th and everything have been running perfect. This phone is just amazing. The only thing I miss about my droid Incredible was the MIUI ROM.
I've had one reboot, but 2-1/2 days since then without any problems. I was a bit concerned about battery life for the first couple of days, but I've been off-charger for about 7 hours now with light usage and the battery is still at 83%, which is fine. Otherwise, no problems other than minor software issues (kinetic scrolling parameters, Qik has a version incompatibility with iPhone, I can't add applications to Car Home).
This tends to happen a lot. The people who are happy are content and don't usually post about it. Conversely, those who have issues, or think they have issues, end up posting about them, so you basically just end up with a bunch of negative discussions.
This is my 4th Android phone (G1, Nexus One, Epic 4G, and now the G2X), and by far the best one I've ever owned, ever.
I've had mine since the 20th and so far have had no problems at all. I activated it in the store and had a slight concern when it seemed to freeze up for a few minutes after it asked about synching my apps. However, I waited a few minutes and apparently it was indexing everything, because once it came back to normal I checked my apps and everything was there. Both the T-Mo rep and I were surprised to see all the apps back as well as my contacts, emails, and texts. Gotta love that Google cloud!
My only complaint (if you can even call it that) is that I can't tell which end is up when I pick it up. I came from a Nexus One and that trackball was a huge clue for where the top of the phone was. This phone is so dark with its new black gel case that I usually pick it up upside down and struggle to find the power button. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually. Glad to see all my apps working with no hiccups, and I was fortunate not to get one with any screen bleed or unexpected restarts. Hope this keeps up.
i thought i had the wifi/4g problem but it was a mistake on my part. had the phone little over 24 hours and not a problem thus far
Most Happy people wont go to xda to create a thread and tell people how perfect and great their phone is.
Xda is clearly not the place for that. Im one of them. I have no issues with my phone, it has been great, fast and reliable.
Im just lurking around the G2X forums waiting for development updates.
No problems on my phone.

No problems with my phone.
Only a small amount of screen bleed here, and for some reason I can't get it to connect to hspa only umts. Other than that great. Sucks though my vibe got hspa.

No "send it back" issues here
my data connection sometimes locks up and seems slower than my vibrants connections. but i'm sure newer basebands/radios will come out and hopefully fix all that. a tiny bit of bleeding on top corner but nothing noticeable...i'm loving it....wish it had 768 ram but it has enough, haven't ran into many problem in that area, i have almost 300 apps and a multitask alot so i'm hopping this one doesn't kill my adw ex in the backround..i have it on persistent but it can still kill it if it wants....fingers crossed that's never an issue. so far love the phone....now waiting on the cable for the HDMI to come in the mail, and screen protectors.
One day 1, I had a couple random reboots. Days 2 and 3 have so far been completely error free. I have very little LCD bleed, only a tiny bit in the top corners that I can barely notice. Standby battery life has improved immensely as well. Down to 3-4% battery per hour which is very good on a stock ROM/kernel.
I'm totally satisfied.
I really like the phone and am keeping it but there's no question it has issues. Everyone uses their phone differently which is why we are having different experiences. I rely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth heavily and LG's implementation of both is quirky causing erratic behavior. T-Mobile really screwed up the data management settings with their My Account app allowing the phone to use native data when set to Wi-Fi only. You're experiencing that whether you realize it or not.
I was in a T-Mobile store and they allowed me to play around with the configuration of their demo unit. I could replicate almost all the strangeness I experienced on my phone. Someone who uses the phone differently may never see the issues I'm having. Either software updates from LG or a replacement ROM will cure most of the problems that have been posted so in the end the phone will still be a good choice.
No issues here...
Flawless...
Mine is fantastic, I dont seem to have any screen bleed or reboots but ive noticed it seems like it lags sometime coming from the lock-screen but doesn't affect anything. All we need now are some custom roms.....
Hey guys a couple of days ago my Nexus S batter started only last 6 hours give or take and hour. Before then I would get 15-24 hours depending on the kernal I was using. I did not get a phone call since the battery drain started happening until yesterday and the call would drop in 10 to 30 secs. I cannot make a call at all, they are all dropped, sometimes it won't even stay online long enough for the person to pick up on the other end.
The battery info showed the screen as being the biggest drainer @ 40-50%.
I was on CyanogenMod 9 V7 with its own kernal, and have been on it since the day it came out with no problems. Previous to that I was just on incremental versions of CM9 (no nightlies) any many months ago I was switching between the Matrix kernal and Glados.
I have done many complete wipes and reinstalls, flashed different radios, I am even now back to stock, and nothing seems to have fixed this.
Does anyone know what could be wrong or do you think it is toast and I will have to get a new phone?
Bigalsworth
got it figured. toggled airplane mode on and then off and it seemed to fix everything.
Glad to hear you got it fixed and posted your solution. It may help others who may experience the same issue.
Last summer (last year) my relay started getting slow, I then installed JB on it using odin and it started getting even slower, the screen sometimes tears when I move and on rarer ocasions even by itself with no movement, it also randomly turns the screen blue and I have to force-restart it. I tried going back to ICS using odin but when I do, wifi never works... here we are over a year later and the slowness is getting almost unbearable...
I bought a new S5 from ebay but it came defective and the exchange also came defective... while I deal with getting a refund and getting a new S5 im still stuck using my old, slow, relay.
So since i cannot go back to ICS and JB as been a torture since day one, you guys think one of the custom roms on this site could make the phone faster for the time being?
