Long answer ...
Perhaps you are joking perhaps not but in the interest of those wondering ...
A WM cab is an installer containing (usually) a compiled executable program, written for an entirely different OS, WITHOUT the source code that was used to build it.
And Just in case you still don't get it, no source = no port. The only possibilities without src (that i know of) is 1. Complete rewrite or 2. something like WINE for android to run WM executables natively (WINE would likely be harder to achieve!!!) . (Ok and perhaps if written in. NET, you could de-compile to get a good chunk of the logic / math but the front end is still a rewrite)
Short answer...
Not possible.
Just open the .cab in notepad, and at the end of the file, add WorksOnAndroid=1, then rename the file to .apk. adb push to /system/app, or just install it via Astro or your favorite file manager. It's working great on Nexus, no idea if it will work on the G1 though, due to screen size differences.
install ubuntu for ARM on the sd-card, start and vnc into it, install virtualbox, install xp, run a windows mobile emulator, run your cab

VirtualBox is virtualization software, not an emulator. VirtualBox will not run on ARM. From the VirtualBox about page: "VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware."
And I honestly don't think he was trolling. Some people just don't know.

Does anyone know of such a thing? My mobiler and my XV6700 are one of the only things keeping me from nuking my windows drive and just going 100% linux. I have yet to get it running and was wondering if there was some equivalent.

It's a cross-platform (PC, Mac, Linux) app that includes PPC support. I just downloaded it, haven't tried it out though... too late, and am moving tomorrow, so it'll be a few days before I can get to it.

The drag&drop or copy&paste dos not function from a nautilus window to the mexplorer window: you have to use the two panel in mexplorer.

Have you started it manually in the phone?
I located the application under "Programs" - and I've started it... Though - is it supposed to look close to the Windows application...?
Like with options of "Connect" and "Connect IP" ?
(Though, I'm unable to use the Connect IP function on the phone - since it does not display my keyboard...)

Runs great here too on a Ubuntu 8.10 laptop!
Created CAB for phone install.
I did install in wine too, but I'm not sure how well it worked out.
I eventually went and downloaded the ZIP file from MyMoblier website, and that is what I'm using now. Running MyMobiler.exe and MExplorer.exe in wine are working great.
Only 2 problems I have are... MyMobiler complains about tray icons to debug output. And MyMobiler will not install the software "to" the phone. I guess this was supposed to be done during ActiveSync during the initial installation to the PC.
So to fix problem #2 I created a cab for the files on the phone that MyMobiler needs. I could not get an attachment to post in this reply, so I created a new thread (thread #725114) that has the CAB file attached

Here are the steps i used 2 make MyMobiler work thru usb on ubuntu maverick using WINE.
Download MyMobiler V1.25....Unzip & copy the folder onto ur desktop or any location on ur ubuntu partition..open d folder, ryt click the MyMobiler.exe and select properties...Got to d "Permissions" tab n tick the execute box, then close...
Now run MyMobiler from the start menu on your phone & click connect...it should close but no worries as its working in d background..Connect your phone to your pc, ur network should report Auto eth3 connected...
Now right-click the MyMobiler.exe on ur pc n select "open with wine....". Notice the MyMobiler icon appear in ur taskbar above, right-click dat and select connect ip, click connect in d window dat appears n it should close.
Right-click the MyMobiler icon again n select "Open Mobiler"......Voila!!
Subsequent connections should auto-connect when u just run MyMobiler from your pc..
Hope this helps those out there...
As I installed rosie over the weekend I needed to put an ext2 partition on my card so used Gparted from a USB Stick. This got me thinking. I have seen people post in threads so often that they cant do ceratin mods at the moment as they are at work and dont have ADB. So I wondered if it were possible to have a usb booting version on Linux with the SDK installed and ADB setup that people could take anywhere with them and use on any available PC.
I have no idea how this would be implemented, just putting it out there for the more skilled amongst us.
I've been doing this using a "puppy linux live usb". I'm still fairly new to linux but shell and gparted work great. The whole linux is only ~100mb and doesn't modify the pc it's used on at all(tho you must be able to boot from usb). Good for those of us still learning linux. Don't know if this is what you were talking about exactly but hope it helps.
Puppy
Yup, Puppy is a cute and elegant solution - works out of the box!
Great thing. Works out of a usb no problem - just have to have a boot loader on the stick. Can recommend grub (easiest) or syslinux (can install on the usb out of xp)

wouldnt that violate terms and conditions of the sdk and whatever distro you use? legally all you would be able to charge for would be the cost of the flash drive, or Google might hunt you down. lol
yeah it is illegal to sell the software... id be selling my time, it did take two hours to set up and it would only be for the udb stick and my time, as i said im happy to contribute and upload if possible for free
Usually linux distros are re-distributable, but check the license.
The Android SDK license, OTOH, specifically prohibits you to "distribute any software or device incorporating a part of the SDK" regardless of whether you charge for it or not. That is, just charging for your time/materials would still go against the SDK license if the SDK was packaged in some sort of distribution.
I'll try to do this either with or without the sdk and if that is the case then add a tutorial on how to add it yourself so we don't break the laws
My first question is what linux distro would you like? I normally would use Ubuntu.
courious about linux.

I would be interested to learn how considering my noob status........ I figure it would make modding my g1 a whole lot easir. Pm me or jus post to this thread. And I will use witch ever people think is the best because I have never used it.
I started with Ubuntu 9.04 since puppy can be installed on a usb from the live cd and should be faster and a matter of just installing the sdk and eclipse.
I have in mind to install gparted, eclipse, irc, and other programs. Any suggestion or help? let me know.
Okay first attepmt failed. Ubuntu didnt start the X, I may try to do it manually this time instead.
Okay I already have the Ubuntu 9.04 updated and with some softwared installed like banshee, lastfm, currently setting up and installing the sdk. But for this part is where I need help since I didnt use the emulator or anythign but the adb commnds.
you can do it with a 4-8GB USB2.0 and SLAX linux distro http://www.slax.org/
you can add modules, including gparted, then just copy your files to the USB

I tried with this one but I can never get on internet wireless, I just dont know how to. For me is easier using gnome but kde I never get used to and for me configuration is just harder on it but i'll try.
ah, i dont normally use the net when i use slax. its mainly for fixing my phone, and ill have all my files needed on the stick. including my past nandroid backups.
also, i gotta find that thread, but i read a rumour of one of the dev's working on a way to reflash your nandroid backups from the recovery screen on the g1, which would be nice. kinda off topic, nice nontheless.
I've tried everything, are people who use OSX left behind? I can't root and I want to! Is there a solution?
Well I can only speak from little experience with rooting but it seems that you either have to use Boot Camp to install Windows on a partition on your HDD or either using VMWare or some other VM program to install windows on your mac.
Either way it is sad that we have to install that POS Operating System.
I agree with you though.....we should not be left in the dark because we run a superior Operating System rather than Windows.
dwnload windows 7 ISO(100% legal as Microsoft has download links), create small partition and install windows 7. This will give u a 30 day trial. Root it, then delete the windows partition once you boot back into osx
Or try vmware player and see if you can send through the USB device
Btw wrong section, this is a general question

OT: I'm a computer programmer by trade, and I recently had to port some code I originally programmed in Windows to OSX, and I can tell you that OSX is one of THE least intuitive interfaces I have ever worked with, and I have various flavors of Linux/Ubuntu running at home as well. It's like they are trying to be different just to be "not Windows." Resizing a window using ONLY one corner? WTF is that? Fast switching only between running programs and being f'ed if said program is running multiple windows and the window you want is behind another one who's "resizing corner" is off to the side? Again, WTF?
You basically have to be completely bought in to their dumbed down interface to be comfortable with it.
Anywho.

Yea, I'm gonna close this. Desktop OS flame war doesn't have anything to do with phones.
Got a free laptop, need some insight on software. It's a Dell Inspiron 1526 running Vista (ugh). It needs to go on a diet. Here's a list of programs I use on my PC, that I want to use on the laptop.
Google Chrome
BitLord
7-Zip
Paint.net
AndroidSDK
Eclipse 3.7
Apk Manager
Notepad++
Adobe Reader
Windows Media Player (I know there's better, I use it because it's there...and only for music)
Nissan FAST 2001
(probably others as well)
Nissan FAST is a automotive program for part numbers and diagrams. My issue is it's 16bit. It runs on Windows 7 64 bit and XP 32 bit, but it won't run on Vista.
I need FAST to work and I don't like all Vista's bloat so a new OS is in order. 7 or XP was my original thought but I'm starting to use my PC more for messing with Android stuff, so maybe I can use my laptop for that instead of having to sit in front of my PC to get anything done.
It seems Ubuntu and Mint are the preferred Linux distros of Android devs.
So, what would you do?
Upgrade to 7?
Downgrade to XP?
Ubuntu/XP dual boot?
Ubuntu/7 dual boot?
Mint/XP dual boot?
Mint/7 dual boot?
There has to be a way around running dual boot just for FAST. Some Google time has shown that most of the others has Linux equivalents...Chromium, U7-Zip, The Gimp, Amarok, etc...
Thanks in advance and if this is the wrong forum, please feel free to place it elsewhere, Thanks!
I'm in the same boat minus the OS issue and the free part. I am buying a sony vaio. For watching movies with the girlfriend and theming/coding for android.
Still haven't decided whether or not I'll go with blackbuntu as my secondary OS.
Edit: I can suggest a Win7/ubuntu install as that is basically what I am going to be doing. Blackbuntu is just a hacker based distro and I use that to pen-test my network from time to time. lol
FAST is the deal-breaker...and a lean mean OS....I'm on the laptop now....Vista is definitely the fat angry sister of the Windows family...it makes me miss ME lol
Have you considered a VM player?
Run your preferred OS as your primary OS. Get VMWare Player (Free) and install it with your required OS for that NISSAN FAST application.
ubuntu/win 7 is the best, because we need a windows platform, but linux too. you install only teh essential programs, because the work will be fast and clear

pretty much sums it up. windows 7 is gonna be the easiest os to just have work aand have all your programs and things in (plus it doesn't suck like vista), but it is also a good practice to keep Ubuntu installed for if you want to develop, fix windows, whatever you might need it for.
For the record I much prefer IntelliJ to eclipse, it feels a lot better and pretty much writes my code with all its shortcuts. works great on win7.

You're very welcome.
You can deploy apps from XAP files on WP8.1 but unfortunately not for XP. I understand that the deployment tools is from Visual Studio 2015 which requires Win 7 or higher. I've seen some sites extracts the deployment tool as a standalone app so you don't have to install visual studio. You can attempt to deploy XAP file this way. But I have no idea if it will work.
