Good to know. I ended up plugging the charger to the wall and did it that way today, because of this.
Although I just looked through settings, and can't find it. Must be buried somewhere.

Helpful Help
Hey there...to better help you with this problem (as I had the exact same problem and it really pissed me off):
1. Go to "Settings"
2. Go to "Applications"
3. Got to "USB Settings"
4. Select "Ask on Connection"
I have no idea what "Samsung Kies" does other than drive a person crazy...anyone out there know what that does?
I have a feeling AT&T are gonna get calls about this...

[Q] 2.3.3 and "Turn Off USB Storage"

I'm having a weird issue with the latest release (and it's possible that it was there before and I didn't notice it).
When I plug in a USB cable connected to my computer, I get the standard window pop up asking me if I want to mound the SD card over USB (as normal). The button however says "Turn off USB storage".
When I press the button, the android changes colour (as normal), the button stays as "Turn off USB stoage".
I'm sure it used to be "Turn on USB Storage" and "Turn off USB Storage" respectively.
Anyone else seeing this/noticed this?

Same happens for me since the 2.3.3 update
Same here. 10char
same for me. well....google is always a step further!
Same here.
wow, the first problem i have had with my NS.
Well it's not a problem as such, just a labelling issue ie: both options are labelled the same.
At least USB connectivity still functions properly.
we should raise this on the Google Support forums, I'm sure it can be easily fixed in the next update.....

I think you´re right. Mine is labeled "Turn on" and "Turn off", but in portuguese. Looks like a labelling problem.
same here on my Nexus S .. im pretty sure it used to be "Turn On USB Storage" when it was not connected
Same here "Turn Off USB Storage" & "Turn Off USB Storage", oh well.
did you guy's manually update the nexus S?
seeing most of you live in the UK.
it might be that the UK version needs the OTA
instead of the link posted on XDA ???
because the link on XDA is the USA version of the OTA?
i can confirm the bug too.
My nexus s is from the us so i dont think that the ota from us and uk thing is the cause
Attention:>>> i figured out that those of you who have the turn off usb storage thing constantly have set english (united kingdom) in their language settings. just set it to united states and everything will be fine.
oh oh.can anyone look if DUTCH is suported in 2.3.3???
not deutch but dutch ;p?
nevermind, updated.and dutch is confirmed!!! :'D though i mis US english already >.<
Many thanks..

ummm, that'd prolly clear my problem up, but would take too much time getting everything reinstalled and reconfigured. Phone's fully functional as far as I can tell, just USB Debugging setting is greyed out. Any ideas other than a factory reset?
heh, figured it out. Thanks, XDA...
anyhoo, seems USB Debugging is greyed out *if* USB is set to Ask on Connect. Set to Mass Storage and USB Debugging is available...

I just got a replacement handset and now I am unable to enter into usb debugging mode. I can select it but as soon as I exit the screen it becomes unselected. I have also tried to select mass storage instead Ask on Connect but it won't let me do that either. Every time I try to select another option I am bumped of the screen. What is going on here?
By the way I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. This doesn't make any sense other than T-Mobile disabled this feature.

Droid not going to USB Connection Screen

When i plug my PC USB cable into my Droid, The Droid used to pop open a screen asking to turn share the SD card with the PC. This screen not longer opens, plus i do not even get the notification bar icon anymore. It just beeps and does nothing.
Any thoughts to help me share my SD card with my PC would be great.
Settings>USB settings>ask on connection

It was set to "mass storage", changed it to "Ask on connection"
now it asked what i want i want to do meida or storage. i click storage. and it goes back to the main home screen.
Do you have any apps that might be overriding the normal functionality?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
none that i can think of. is there maybe a system app that runs it. maybe something happened to that. I debloted it but only removed a few apps, and they where the basic ones, like the two games, and a few version apps.
I had this issue, restarted my computer. Issue resolved. Have you tried just restarting everything (phone and comp)?
So i rebooted the phone... still did not work.
So i then rebooted my computer, and as it was rebooting, i powered off my phone, did a battery pull, then booted my phone back up. Waited for my computer to come back. and it worked. not sure why that would be. but i will take it.
Thank you very one for helping me. Problem solved

PC not recognizing S3 ...

It seems no matter what I do, my PC, & a few others, just WILL NOT recognize my Verizon S3! Yes, the Samsung drivers have been installed in all of them. I am at my witt's end with this phone. #Ugh!!!
PS: I am pretty sure I have been through every single "option" within the settings, & I cannot find anything to help. If I drop the pull-down menu, & If I catch it quick enough, I can tap the USB icon & be taken to a screen where I have a choice for either "media" or "camera" whatnot.

Yes, I try different ports, ... The "USB" icon just will NOT stay in the upper left of the screen/display.

I'm may be wrong but I seem to recall reading that there is a technical limitation preventing this. I gave up and just used kies.
It could be your PC sucks... or u have a service disabled

I thought I'd mention this just in case ... if you plug your phone in while the screen is locked you'll need to unlock it to get the volumes to mount and appear in explorer.
If you are running XP or later you should not have to load any special USB drivers to make mass storage work.

You could also try putting the w phone in it usb debugging mode and let the computer auto detect and install drivers just in case.

Neither comment is helpful. Especially since he said he tried other computers.
OP, my Sprint S3 connects automatically with USB Debugging enabled on the phone so I don't have to hit anything on the phone. Then a popup shows up on Windows asking what I want to do.
FNM
Try this maybe if u havent already...
Sorry to hear that. Normally when I plug in my S3 to my Win7 Laptop, It just detects and auto-play pops open with what I want to do.
You should try plugging the S3 into the back of the computer and also deleting the drivers that were installed from the phone already and re-installing.

[Q] "Allow USB Debugging?" Keeps Popping Up!

After upgrading to 4.3 on my i535 GS3, I'm now faced with a very annoying new problem. I use easytether pro to tether to my macbook, and now when I plug in the usb it pops up with "Allow USB Debugging?" followed by my computer's RSA key fingerprint, and then a checkbox for "Always allow from this computer".
It doesn't matter if I check the "always allow" because the next time I plug it in, it pops up with the same message again. For some reason it's not recognizing my computer, even though the RSA key fingerprint is exactly the same every time. Even worse, I have to go through this process twice every single time I plug in my usb - once for the usb connected as an installer, and twice when it switches from installer to media device.
I use tethering quite a bit, so this is kind of grinding my gears! Does anybody know what might be going on here? Is it possibly just a mac thing? Perhaps something wrong with my settings?
Try this, In developer options ->root access - allow apps and adb also USB debugging notify is unchecked.

I don't seem to have any "root access" options in my developer options. Is it hidden or something?
Sorry I must be half sleeping and thinking about custom ROM. You don't have that option, anyway do you still have the messag after untick the notify option?

You mean leave the "Always allow from this computer" unticked? I've tried both ways...it always comes back. It wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the face that the connection is blocked until I hit the ok button, twice around.
Still having the issue. It's starting to grind my gears...
I nobody else having this issue?

I just started having this issue and am investigating it. If I had to guess, I'd say the rsa key store is corrupt, but I'm just guessing. It was working fine this morning, and this afternoon it started yelling at me repeatedly.
I'm going to grab a logcat then will post back if/how I fixed it.
EDIT: turns out my issue was a bad USB cable. well, a bad USB cable connection. unplugged and reseated the cable and it seems to be working now.
I am also having this issue with two devices out of three I tried.
Samsung Note 10.1 (SM-P600) running Android 4.3 and ASUS K011 (ME181CX) running Android 4.4.2 always asks for permission. I tried everything including using different cables, different usb slots, different adb.exe. Even tried rooting K011, but no luck.
However, I am not having this issue with Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (LT15i) running 4.0.4.
Edit: I came here from Google and now noticed that this is Galaxy S III section, but I think the reason to this issue and the solution will be the same. I will post the solution to here if I can do it.
---------- Post added at 03:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 PM ----------
Yeah, solved it. I first killed adb.exe then simply deleted the folder C:\Users\Username\.android. After that I plugged my device in and typed "adb devices". This changed the RSA key etc. It asked for the permission again and "Always allow" option worked this time.
This method worked on both ASUS and Samsung. Hope this works for you too.
Note: I recommend you backup that folder before deleting it. Or just move it into another folder.
Mac computer
I'm having this issue with easy tether 1.1.12 in a mac (currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3) the windows keeps showing everytime I plug the device. Does anyone experience this on a mac computer?
In a windows 7 PC it works perfectly, no messages at all after clicking the "remember" box.
